Feel Good Story Of The Day: Top Iranian General Killed In Syria

Honestly the Syrian civil war is fantastic for the US as is....jihadis killing Assad's troops, Assad's troops killing jihadis and the occasional high ranking Iranian General gets killed by, who cares?

Al-Manar did not disclose the name of the Iranian official and only described him as the head of an Iranian agency responsible for "rebuilding Lebanon." According to the report, the incident occurred on Syrian soil when the Iranian official was on his way back from Damascus to Lebanon.

An Iranian independent news website - mashreghnews.ir - reported earlier that the name of the Iranian official was Gen. Hassan Shateri, a commander in the Guard's Quds Force. The report said the attack was carried out by "mercenaries of the Zionist regime," however the credibility of the report is unclear.

The report added that Gen. Ghasem Soleimani, the head of the Guard's Quds Force, visited Shateri's family to express his condolences. The website did not provide additional details about his death.

The Quds Force is Iran's main organization dealing with international terrorist activity with the cooperation of several different terrorist organizations which are backed by Iran. In the past, Israeli intelligence officials described Soleimani as the central figure in Iran's terrorist network.

About the Quds Force, that's the group that Iran used to run its shadow war against the US in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bastards are responsible for a lot of American deaths and injuries.

Hopefully Shateri's death was slow and painful.

Yes, I know a lot of civilians are hurt by the fighting in Syria but from a cold hard US perspective, the more time the bad guys spend fighting and killing each other the better.

9 DrewM,

This is why Bush was correct in taking the fight to the Islamists. Let the fuckers trash their own countries, fight amongst themselves, and when everything has shaken out, then we can deal with the survivors.

Maybe Obama lucked into a reasonable way to deal with them. Sure, the Muslim Brotherhood and their ilk are savage murderers, but they don't mind starting on their own people!

30 CBD - Bush's strategy was a lot more sound than people are willing to give him credit. His biggest mistake was not surging soon enough, though he corrected it. In any event, I don't think Bush would have ever surged into Afghanistan - he knew there was no way to win in that wasteland.

But I guess that is now for history to decide. Regarding Drew's post. Right on. We have our own oil (if we are willing to tap it). Let the mideast go up in flames. Its strategic importance to the US is dwindling with every new Shale discovery.

Someone asked from the last thread, what will China do with all that excess men. Conquering is a historical result. China may eventually come in to clean up the Mideast mess.

89 OSP - the difference is that the Chinese have a lot of men to sacrafice and a state that doesn't care. Every US military death seems to be published. As it should, we care about live and honor those who made the ultimate sacrafice.Nothing in China's historical record leads me to believe that they will give the same consideration. I suspect their rules of engagement will be quite different.

The best way to ever prevent this of course is to maintain a presence in the Mideast, or court India to be our ally. Otherwise, no one will be able to stop China, if they choose (and they may not), to walk in.

96 30 CBD - Bush's strategy was a lot more sound than people are willing to give him credit. His biggest mistake was not surging soon enough, though he corrected it. In any event, I don't think Bush would have ever surged into Afghanistan - he knew there was no way to win in that wasteland.

Fighting in Iraq was, as much as anything, about not fighting in Afghanistan.

133 OT Prisoner X, that Australian/Israeli Mossad agent who was jailed for treason and committed suicide while awaiting trial, from YNet:

Earlier on Thursday Kuwait's Al-Jarida newspaper quoted Western sources a saying that Zygier was one of the members of the squad which assassinated senior Hamas terrorist Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai in January 2010.

The same sources noted that following the mission, Zygier contacted the government in Dubai and updated it on the details of the assassination in exchange for protection. The sources also said that Israel managed to uncover Zygier's hiding place, kidnapped him and jailed him for treason, and all this while maintaining absolute secrecy. The report has not been confirmed by any other sources.

The Brisbane Times said Israeli intelligence informed ASIO of Zygier's arrest and detention just eight days after authorities in Dubai had revealed that suspected Israeli agents had used fraudulent Australian passports in the assassination of Mabhouh.

A Chinese grab for Siberia leading to a Sino/Russian war, China swallowing the ME (Hopefully bypassing India, (though I'm not sure India could or would stay out of it), and being smart enough to preserve Israel (It's more valuable as a trading partner than subjugated)), either of these could give us time to get our shit together and (hopefully, dear God, hopefully) allow Progressivism to run it's course to it's inevitable destruction and give us a chance to return to Constitutional governance. Insanely optimistic, I know, but what other prognostication is there that still leaves us with a functioning Republic?
