Biden: Our Gun Control Plan Isn't Going to Reduce Mass Shootings, and Isn't Even Guaranteed to Reduce Shooting Deaths by a Thousand Per Year

This isn't new news; it dates from February 1. But very little of last nights State of the Union was new, either (although I think Obama did add "self-healing electrical grids" to his laundry list).

So as Obama's speech was recylced, as it always is, Joe Biden's words from a couple of weeks ago are still relevant.

I could be wrong, but I get the impression they're kind of over the gun control thing. Yeah, they'll still pay lip service to it, but it doesn't really get them where they want to go, and I suspect they thought there would be more of a groundswell for it after the... whatever it was that happened a couple months ago.

People forget. And maybe they'll reintroduce it after the next "tragedy," but for now it's on the back burner.

Ah yes, i remember the playground in elementary school, all those nice steel toys to climb 15 feet up on...anchored in asphalt. But they made sure to surround them with rubber padding. It about 2 inches think and was the consistency of an all-weather steel-belted tire.
Only time i ever got hurt was slipping on a piece of ice in 3rd grade and sliding scrotum-first into a steel pole. That's the day the school nurse <s>molested</s> examined me. Sweet, sweet memories.

If they know for certain that some little gang-banger has killed again, and is likely to get another slap on the wrist, I can see them calculating that it's better just to kill them in a "shootout". The problem is that is a very long step down the road to lawlessness and tyranny.

Obama has made the same calculation, and has decided it's easier to just kill them. It's simpler legally to kill rather than to try to keep them (Guantanamo), or investigate them (water-boarding).

Was this a Waco or a Ruby Ridge? I don't think so. Dorner had plenty of time and space to air his grievances. He didn't have any testimony more compelling than his training officer kicking a disabled man. Weak sauce like that doesn't merit an assassination. I think the official story is much more compelling. Dude was shifty and blamed his representative for his firing. He went off his nut and starting killing people for revenge.

Regarding whether burning people out of their homes is one of the police's contingency plan for dealing with conservatives. I'm not ready to believe that's anywhere close to a sizable plurality at this point.
