When Asking for Help, Appeal to People's Self-Interest, Never to their Mercy or Gratitude
If you need to turn to an ally for help, do not bother to remind him of your past assistance and good deeds. He will find a way to ignore you. Instead, uncover something in your request, or in your alliance with him, that will benefit him, and emphasize it out of all proportion. He will respond enthusiastically when he sees something to be gained for himself.

Pose as a Friend, Work as a Spy
Knowing about your rival is critical. Use spies to gather valuable information that will keep you a step ahead. Better still: Play the spy yourself. In polite social encounters, learn to probe. These rules may be amoral but even a moral person might want to have them in their quiver just in case.

The latest progressive fear - ATMs and robots are stealing jobs!
In other words, the Left is only able to conflate obsolete jobs and permanent unemployment because it's looking at a particular moment in time, one in which the remnants of our once-thriving private sector are still introducing labor-saving devices, even as the Progressive government's heavy hand is simultaneously suppressing that start-ups that would have piggy-backed on this new technology and provided different (and often better) employment opportunities.
Here are the kind of jobs being taken by the robots:
Well actually robots have advanced quite a bit but they're still really only good at repetitive tasks requiring little inspection or judgment. So if a robot can replace you, then that doesn't speak very well of the value you were bringing to the job in the first place.

I've never heard of this knot before but it sounds more useful than the usual ones that are taught. You can see an animated version here.
For some reason this amazingly useful knot has been forgotten. Like many knots, it is stronger than a square knot, but it is unique in that it can always be untied easily, even after it has been loaded heavily. In other words, it will not "jam". It is also easy to tie and easy to verify.
Supposedly it is called the Rosendahl or "Zeppelin" knot because American airship commander Charles Rosendahl insisted on its use in mooring lines. Airships can put tremendous transient loads on those lines, so they needed strong knots that could still be untied in a hurry.
Sadly strippers in movies mostly just dance.

I ask because there is a ~11 year old girl in my church who has rather abruptly stopped growing this last year (less than 3/4" when she should be averaging around 4"). She is apparently not producing the growth hormone she should be producingat all. She is going to be getting injections of synthetic hormone as compensation, but I was wondering if anyone remembered the other story soI could pass it along to her parents if it sounded like it might be a similar situation.

85% of the time or more, when a woman tells you about her problems she doesn't really want your help -- you are just supposed to acknowledge her frustration. Most times, a simple "I'm sorry that happened to you," / "I wish you felt better" / "That was unfair and you didn't deserve it" / etc. will do nicely.

Yesterday after court, I thought my life couldn't get any worse. I tried to hang myself in October. Someone called the cops, they cut me down. I almost didn't make it.
Yes, it was a serious thing what I did and I'm doing my best to get help but after the judge made her ruling, I started wishing the cops didn't find me. And then today I lose my job. But it's weird...I'm not feeling so bad about it. I'll just look for another job.
I don't know if I'll never make another attempt again, if I'm being honest. But right now, I'm just pushing through all this shit.

Mountains: limited ways in and out. That area has a noticeably paler population than say Baldwin Hills or Watts. Rough terrain on foot. Lots of LE with Helos due to skiiing, tourism etc.

Yesterday after court, I thought my life couldn't get any worse. I tried to hang myself in October. Someone called the cops, they cut me down. I almost didn't make it.
Yes, it was a serious thing what I did and I'm doing my best to get help but after the judge made her ruling, I started wishing the cops didn't find me. And then today I lose my job. But it's weird...I'm not feeling so bad about it. I'll just look for another job.
I don't know if I'll never make another attempt again, if I'm being honest. But right now, I'm just pushing through all this shit.

Yeah, it's '93. But I think the screenplay had been around a few years before it was made. Whatever the case, GD is both very simple and very complex. There's a lot of shit going on in that story that isn't telegraphed blatantly and it may be one of the best ever to come out in decades.

There's some new (terrorism-inspired?) international postal rule about not being allowed to send alcohol at a certain proof, even as perfume, through the mail.
I used to send my Aussie buddy the small 2-oz bottles of rye for Christmas mixed in with Christmas candies and a stuffed toy for his daughter but would describe them as "perfume" on the customs packing slip so the package wouldn't get stolen by Canadian or Aussie postal workers. So I go to mail the package to him one Christmas and discover that booze and perfume are on the no-fly list!
I don't know if it affects private air courier companies or just postal services.

It wasn't the speech. It was the delivery.
We need to face that people don't care about the details... they pay attention to the speaker himself.. Obama was a lying SCoaMF, but he came accross sure of himself, and made people watching feel sure of him as well.
Rubio blew that. He was clearly nervous. He touched his temples multiple times. He awkwardly grabbed that water bottle. He seemed "not ready for prime time" and maybe even pushed people away due to his awkwardness.
People will support candidates who seem sure of themselves. If they aren't sure of themselves, then how can anyone else be sure of them?

In fairness, no. It was a stronghold of the Nazis from the get-go. It had been a Red stronghold before that (e.g. right after WWI, with the establishment of a Bavarian Soviet that was crushed by the central government), but the Nazis largely co-opted the socialist message (read their manifesto of the time), and added nationalism, which closed the deal.

Paul needed to score many more hits on Unemployment, particularly Unemployment generated in the last 4 years and the reasons why, and the new EPA and other bureaucratic regulations that will cost more people their jobs.
People understand jobs. Show enough people that they, too, are likely to be unemployed withing 3 -5 years, and because of Teh JEF and Co., and maybe more will vote.

While I would agree that it is important for our party to reach some consensus, I can't imagine you believe we should withhold critique, especially in a place such as AOS.

It is my opinion that Rubio is making a disingenuous pitch on immigration. He is nervous because he is speaking for a Gang of N Seantors compromise, and he either doesn't believe in the result, or knows that he is full of horse droppings.
He's been on national TV before, run for Senate, and been the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. This shouldn't be that hard.

I've reached the last stage of grief. Acceptance. But drunken sleepiness is still a part of the routine since so many young people still don't have jobs, many store fronts are still empty in my otherwise prosperous town, etc, so on, and so forth...

I'm talking about the comments here, too. I mean, look at the internet comments about Obama whenever he did anything dumb. There's a complete embargo by supporters as well as OUTRAGE at anyone who dares to bring it up. Yeah, we laugh at that, but it has a dampening effect on the "moderates" and "low-info" voters because it cows them into thinking that criticism is only something that "extreme partisans" do.

There was some video of little squids (less than a foot long, IIRC) that were doing the "leap out of the water and skip along the surface to avoid predators" thing. 'Cause it's a bit more difficult for creatures to do that when they're big enough to have squid-sized mouths -- the cube/square law* and all that.
*and just in case -- the cube/square reference is when you increase the size of something, its mass goes up by the cube, but the strength goes up by the square. In other words, if you had a golden retriever puppy that was twice as tall as the usual, it'd be four times stronger, but eight times heavier -- so you'd expect it to do a lot of drooping around. Works for inanimate objects like I-beams, too.

As a parent of a 6 foot 16yo, and 6'4" 20 yo, I can say this may not always end well for you.

A bunch of restaruants in town have closed over the last 3 months, some that had been open for over 30 years, and all of the owners have cited the economy. More and more storefronts are empty, but our local newspaper has been going on and on about "economists" saying everything is getting so much better.

Fill with whipped cream

Mr. Paul, study Hans Bleiker. Drag all of your compatriots with you. Apply the Bleiker Life Preserver -- and drop the damn stats and tell stories about people -- real, everyday people.

Right after you are done explaining how horrible this asshole has been to a member of the elderly in a manner that all the other elders can compare themselves to (the power of an anecdote about a real person rather than dry statistical facts figgers), then move down 10 years and do it again --
"Mr. and Mrs. (insert real couple here) live in (insert their real town). They are coping with unbearable stress. Not only are their parents being shoved down a rathole by the President's disastrous economic policies that are depleting their savings while offering zero protection against real inflation -- they are also supporting 2 adult children who cannot get a start in life because there are no jobs." Then go on to explain a couple of real points.
Move down in age again and with the example of a real person explain how a student is getting screwed by the system --- etc., etc.
These politicians need to reach out and get some real stories about real people that are getting the shaft. They need to boil those real stories into concise, well-explained forms and use them like a cluster bomb on preznit asshole and his crowd. No stats, except as a portion of the explanation. No figgers. No whining about the abstract -- talk about people and always, always, always do so with extreme prejudice.

I thought I was alone, so I am taking an opportunity to get some things off my chest.
I get so frustrated with the arguments like those upthread, where it seems to me, that the members of the horde feel so hopeless about the lack of leadership. I don't think our problem is especially tied to leaders, or the lack of leaders. I think our problem is our side has no idea how to reach people that don't already agree with them.

- you may be targeted just for a value of asset forfeiture laws for crimes you did not commit. The sole intent will be to use legal means to steal your property.
