It is easy to slam a Chevy engine in them. Everything Toyota made until the 80's was all to GM specs. The stock engine in an FJ-40 and all land cruisers until the FJ 8o in 1986 was a 1948 iron block GM knock off straight six.
They were fuel injected them in 1988 with the FJ-62. I have two of those.

The Highway Patrol was not amused. He ran the course again so he could lose.

Adopted Russian kid of one of my best bud's.
His dad, one of my "besties" is not a hunter, nor a particular fan of firearms...
(not that he is "against". Just doesn't have the history. And he more than makes up for that. 2 adoptees and the coolest fellow you could ever know. Just sayin'. Sweetheart guy).
Anyway, the kid begged for a shotgun for months. His folks finally relented and bought him a Remington shotgun at Christmas.
So the kid has become a "hunter". Goes to a SC state "wildlife preserve", ground hunting with an brand-new 870 and slugs, and kills an 8-pointer, out of the gate. Doesn't know, and is ill-prepared, to field dress...or anything, else.
Pure f'ing dumb luck, 1st time out. Kills a trophy.
So, he ambles through the woods, finds another hunter. And gives his deer away!!!!
No antlers. No back-strap. Nothing. Only the photos.
I have done my best to shame him as a "Bambi-killer". It's hunting. Not sport-killing. I think he gets the message.
But, next time, I want to go with that lucky f#*ker!

We had a large storm a week or so before it and there was a thick layer of ice on the ground when the blizzard started.

I was born in Dayton in 1972, drifted to Alberta, back to Ohio to Georgia, to Texas to Ohio to Texas to Maryland, to South Carolina, to Louisiana to South Carolina, to Indiana, heading back to South Carolina.
I would say we are praying to go from South Carolina to Texas, Louisiana, or Alaska and then to Texas, Louisiana, North Dakota, Alaska, Montana, or Alberta....but that'd be confusing and prideful...

Yeah, that would be yesterday here. We haven't had a day without snow for a week. Then when they get that berm up nice and high, it freezes down below zero and getting it out of there is like breaking into Ft. Knox.

Years ago, the company I worked for made yohimbine tablets.
We used to handle the tablets and powder them to do assays, etc.
The stuff gave me the sweats and raised my blood pressure. Some guys swear by it. It could make you really sick if you have a bad reaction. Made me sick just handling it (got into my blood stream through the skin).
So use it at your own risk. It is not a sure thing.

I'm driving a HP Pavilion dv6. To hit the F-keys, I have to hit the appropriately named "fn" key. For example, to re-fresh the ONOT, i have to hit fn then f5. Not a problem, I can do it in my sleep (and often do).
The problem is, when I'm working in Excel, having to hit the fn key really harshes my mellow.
I'm sure there's a way to "toggle" this "feature" on and off, but I just can't find it.
Your thoughts? thx

There are a number of *serious* medical conditions that have weird and seemingly explicable symptoms ["I smell garlic when I stand up too fast"] -- and, BTW, Mr. Happy isn't happy. Quite a few of them react BADLY to things that Mr. Happy might appreciate. As in, "keel over dead at inopportune times", badly.
So, before you yohimbe or limbo or watusi or whatever, get checked out to insure that you're not giving away the one obvious indicator that can save your sorry behind from whatever odd syndrome might be threatening you.

This over-reaction to normal winter weather, thunderstorms, and so on, is being pushed by local tv stations. They carry on like the end of the world is coming.
Anyway we got a bunch of snow. I came back to my own house after being at my dad's for a couple days. The guy I hired to plow never came. Plus the end of the driveway has a buttload of that heavy crap dumped on it from the snowplows.
I put the jeep into 4 wheel drive low. That sucker went through my driveway like it was nothing. In seven years, I've never had an amount of snow in my driveway that it wouldn't go through. I love the jeep, it's going to be tough when I have to get my next car, because I don't want to buy from a company that took gubmint money.
Oh, and anti-SUV environmentalists can eat me.

Ahhhh. The storm of '78. i was in jr. high. My ma's girlfriend pulled stakes and was moving to Nashville. We loaded a pull-behind U-haul the very morning the snow started. There was already plenty snow on the ground in Plymouth, Indiana. Wehad skiddedoff the road before 30 miles and somehow managed to extricate ourselves. Kokomo is 60 miles from Plymouth: It took us 4 hours to get there and a hotel room where we stayed two nights.
On the third morning we jettisoned the U-haul and headed south. 465 East around Indy was a freaking glacier. Snow was packed 5- inches deep into glazed ice. Travel was at 5-10 mph. We found another vacancy and stayed two more nights. On the fifth morning roads were passable as the temps had raised enough where salt could work on the roads. Tennessee bound!
My older brother followed a few days later and picked up the U-haul in Kokomo. The wheels were frozen into the pavement. He used a jack to lift the trailer up and free. I was so glad to see him and our crazy cousin greet me in Nashville!
Back home in Indiana I remember digging a snow maze in the yard. We had four feet of snow.

well, Missouri is red for presidential elections, yes.
and, it is red for the legislature. the R legislature here has a 2/3rds majority. which on the surface looks good.
But, there are a lot of R legislators from "swing" districts and we have a D governor. so what will end up happening, is, nothing.
plus, all of the state-wide offices are D, except for Lt. Gov., and to be honest, he is kind of a dick.
so, the D's are developing a pretty solid bench.

I am in MA but most of the reason I can't do things like that is that I have bad neck, which makes my hands hurt and weak and to top it off, four weeks ago I fractured my tailbone! I can hardly sit w/o being in pain.
The 24 hour news cycle ruined things. A snow storm is expected in the winter in MA and other states. They have made such a big deal out of this one it had better be worse than 1978. I doubt it will because I was 18 that year and remember it well. There was a big storm a week or so before and all the new snow fell on top of two plus weeks of ice underneath it. It was five or six inches deep of thick hard ice to start with

It's not just about the news media, it's about entertainment in general. Online commercials are a start, but we conservatives need to take advantage of the power of the internet to start producing and distributing entire television shows. Start with 10 minute webisodes and work up from there.

I don't have a problem with people being a "family" -- I just think that having the government enforce it has become more of a nightmare than orphanages and "fallen women" ever were before. Even 20 years ago, I was running into women who had five children by five different men, and men who struggled to get back on their feet after horrible divorce settlements and got hauled back into court because they'd somehow managed to get two nickels to rub together. OTOH, I knew of a case where an executive managed to bully his ex-wife into refinancing their ex-home repeatedly so that his new home was owned free-and-clear.
"Family Court" is government meddling writ large, with ideology straight from the progressive's playbook.....and it's a horror.

The problem is that genetic paternity is nearly useless now, and will shortly become even more so.
Imagine, if you will, a couple using a magic gene-sequencing machine to include enough of Prince William's DNA to make a legally-valid claim for child support. DNA is merely software -- and is not particularly encrypted.

Same here brother. Estimator/Project Manager. Family business. Been in business over 70 years now. Much smaller scale than what your talking about, but has provided a very nice living for my family. And we spent a crapload of money about 18 months ago to protect our business and rep. Another estimator left the biz and decided his non-compete didn't apply. He learned wrong.

I sold my 1-4x24 today to a fellow rifle owner I met in CCW class. Great guy. I bought a 3-12x44. Amazing what the Chinamen make for not much dough.
I realize that for my nice rifle I will want to be some nice glass on top some time. I'm just wondering, being a scope neophyte and all, why good glass cost 10x what inexpensive glass cost. It's such a big difference.

We had to "put-down" my 12 year old Ralph in March. Mrs, says I "babied" him more than my own babies. LOVED. THAT. DOG. We all cried (wailed is more like it), and I mourned for months. I still, everyday, miss him terribly. My best friend. Can't be replaced. Simpatico guy, him.
I still call "new dog" Emmitt "Ralph" fairly regularly. And, although I love new dog, I'm not sure I'll ever love him "as much". He has a huge role to fill.
I never meant to love dogs so much. But I do.

Space Bros.: Good solid story, with good characters, and excellent plotting.
Shin Sekai Yori: An intereting world they put together... I'm rooting for the rat people led by the Machiavellian rat dude.
Robotics;Notes: Nothing quite like a slice of life story involving a high school robotics club that gets embroiled by plans for global government and mass genocide...
Psycho-pass: Excellent dystopian future where an all seeing benevolent computer runs everyones lives... and has them executed if their psychological "hues" get too off.

When i was researching scopes i saw that they got bashed on the AR forums. I did see some good reviews by a gun instructor and some leos who throw them in the trunk routinely.
I frankly can't understand how an illuminated scope, with locking turrets and other such features can be made as cheap as they are. I will run with it till I find a reason to trade up, like for long shots, once i find a place to do that.

glas quality is not the top feature for long range suprisingly
the reticle and scope adjustment repeatability are more important than pure glass quality.
Now the glass has to be good enough, but not perfect.

My predilection for Zeiss is all the scopes in my lab are Zeiss. We've had Olympus, Nikon and some off brands but nothing has imaged like the Zeiss stuff. Now that is someone else paying for my like but damm they make good optics.

It's been almost 25 years since I read that one or its sequel. It caught my interest because I was fairly active in fandom back then but I only vaguely remember the details. Like the lead character using the pen name Jay Omega.
It was OK but it seemed like one of those concepts that a roundtable session at a Thursday after-meeting would do better. We had a pretty good Star Wars parody starring the Looney Toons cast called Star Warners that was largely cooked up that way. Never pitched it, though.
Eugene Volokh was a law student back then and was an occasional diner in the aftermeeting crowd. There was one occasion where he was among the first to leave and we came up short on divvying up the bill, with the general belief being that Volokh had skipped out on the bill. Though he may not have realized it. The restaurant had an item on the menu called Chicken Eugene and that became a running joke for some of us thereafter.

I've given up on sanity returning to California in my lifetime. I was born here, the climate is perfect, there are resources beyond imagining.....and I'm looking to bail. Breaks my heart.
Just to provide an illustration of why this is inevitable -- we live in a modest suburban home in Santa Clara, and our property taxes are $150 shy of six grand. Now, if investments yielded 10%, we'd need $60,000 of investments to pay our property taxes after retirement.
But they don't. The Fed's ZIRP means that a "risk-free" investment earns only about 2% -- http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/rates-bonds/government-bonds/us/ -- so we'd need $300,000 of investments to just pay property taxes -- we've had $240,000 of our investments sucked away from eating, driving, medicines, and keeping warm.
And where the ZIRP looked temporary when the US debt was $10T, it looks permanent when the debt is $16T and rising -- because the interest expense for the Feds' FY 2012 was $359,796,008,919.49 -- roughly 9% of the $3,796B of total government spending. That's with the average interest rate at 2.523% [http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/rates/pd/avg/2012/2012_12.htm] -- if interest rates were to go to the 6.642% that existed at 12/31/2000 [http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/rates/pd/avg/2001/2001_12.htm], the interest expense would go to $947B, or almost a quarter of all Federal expenditures. So ZIRP isn't ending soon.
If you want a property where you can pay the taxes with a $100K savings kitty, you have to look at places where you can get a decent property at $X, where the tax is $Y, and where the earnings on your savings is $Z, where Z > Y. It's 6th-grade math.

But this is a matter of survival. Too many things are wrong in California ... starting with CalPERS.
I expect that the solution will be that the residents will end up voting down every plan the State comes up with, save cutting retirements and benefits. There may be an approach to the federal government for a bailout, but if I was a senator from ANY other state, I'd filibuster every bailout attempt. No need to share the pain that California generated for itself.
This leaves a lot of ugliness in CA ... and it is perhaps the first of many plagues to be visited here.
I caused none of these, and no one will listen to me ... so they will hear my footsteps ... leaving ... eventually, and not in the far distant future.

cthulhu: Spend some time researching the Nebraska-Texas corridor. If you can stand the cold, you might find what you want there. Farther north and west have merit, but they are colder. South of the Ohio River has merit, but I've seen the Deep South .... I don't have enough family there.

Looking out over Houston Street in SoHo. Snow? Yes. The next ice age as predicted yesterday? Not so much.
1978 was much worse as I recall. Cold all day but then the temps will get into the 40's Monday so it will all melt into a slushy dog/hobo urine daiquiri for Mayor Doomkopf.

The REMC linemen had to be brought down their road in an Indiana National Guard halftrack.
We were living in Evansville then, so although we only got 8-10 inches of snow, the city couldn't handle it because they rarely got snow. People just didn't know what to do. The drifting on I-64 was so bad that my husband got routed off on his way to the mine, and had to come home (which took him almost all day). The guys who were at the mine were stuck, and finally took a bulldozer and plowed their way to a local gas station, where they broke in to get food and cigarettes. LOL!

Good Morning Miss Marple, I have to look out several windows to see how bad it is here. I am sitting at the computer in my kitchen, ready to getinto my work computer.
I have to make add some things to payroll. We were supposed to work from home yesterday. I alteranted between this computer, an old Dell laptop that works better with work's computer becuase it is Windows 7 and I don't need to use my work computer do to payroll, it's on the internet, but I have a Mac laptop that is not compatible with the payroll website, because Mac uses Safari as a browser. The screen is a bit bigger here too.
I feel about the same, thank you for asking.
I thougth because the ampersand showed as I typed it worked. It gets confusing when you are going from one operating system to another.
It is 18 degrees here. Most of my windows are covered in ice and I can't see much outside. Wind is very strong.

I stopped in the supermarket after work and the lines were really long at the cashiers. I heard a guy in front of me talking about 8-12". I don't know where the hell he got that. People need some drama in their lives, I guess.
