But above all else, the Edu-crat establishment is fearful that by loosing their monopoly on our children, they will not longer be able to warp and manipulate their young minds. I spent a few hours looking for a 'Whole Lotta Love' cover by a band called Trulio Disgracias. Basically, a P-funk style lineup of old members of Fishbone, Suicidal and other cali alt/punk bands fronted by a black woman that made Nel Carter look svelte.

Yes he was. Francis Urquhart in House of Cards was so deliciously bad. Can't say enough about his performance.

Next FY she will be bearing another Tricare hike I guarantee it.
The non DoD civil servants getting over is rocket fuel the DoD civil servants are dropping like flies.
The Temps *gone* contractors *skeleton crew soon to be gone*

Buzz I'd ask you to consider putting together a 3 day bag anyway. You know your geography better than I do of course, but if you are within ~30-45 miles of a major metro you've be well served to have tactical egress capability. The rule of thumb is 35-60 miles for a 2 day warning of rioters/looters.

Agreed on the Hollywood thing and choosing parts. I've always felt that Carrey is best suited to being part of a larger thing (didn't seem to help in that Batman movie, though),in a support part etc. Which is a major factor in making D+D work (yeah I know... debatable). But, he got "big" early and has had starring vehicles since.

Buzz I'd ask you to consider putting together a 3 day bag anyway. You know your geography better than I do of course, but if you are within ~30-45 miles of a major metro you've be well served to have tactical egress capability. The rule of thumb is 35-60 miles for a 2 day warning of rioters/looters.

A guy down the street is a former SEAL and pretty squirrley, but I hear he has an "arsenal" in the basement gun safe (one of my other looney tune neighbors was appalled about THAT!).

Rioters that are in a mass frenzy tend to move at the set rate of walking an average walking pace for a riot is about 2 miles and hour.....
so it then breaks down to a psychological exercise in how long the riot maintains cohesion and intensity. Looting slows down the progress but looters can also move in organized packs. Vehicle mobility is a concern and the motivation of the crowd psychology and group dynamic can increase range of action.
The deeper you are in that radius from an urban center the more likely you are to have advanced warning of the type of activity you are likely facing.
Take Indy metro for example, if you look at a map of south Indy proper you'll see that going along 65 southbound you have Greenwood with malls and several stores as well as a residential band with a 5 mile radius of the city, continuing southbound you next have Whiteland a more rural and true suburban setup with less lootable retail areas but many dwellings....
I am in Franklin IN ~ 31 miles from the starting area of a big riot or crime wave. I'll face the more municipal that Whiteland less than greenwood local threat but am within a 2-3 day operational radius of the greater Indy proper population potential.
Absent an organized defense plan or a sense of interlocking neighborhood/LE action I would be tempted to make my way southward.
It all boils down to situational awareness and having multiple options available so if the situation warrants it you can unass the AO if need be.

The first time I saw Elvin Bishop in concert was in the park with the waterfall in Spokane WA. The second time was on a Blues Cruise out of San Diego. He is a cool dude. On the cruises you end up eating lunch or whatever at the next table over, and he likes to visit with the fans.

I thought about that, but I'm trying to avoid any meal that requires using water for things other than drinking, or extended cooking times. 2-3 hours of boiling requires a lot of energy.
I live less than 2 miles from both the Hayward and Calaveas Faults, so keeping a week of food on hand makes good sense. I also figure that trying out various foods that will keep for extended times also makes sense.

The can says slicing is easier if the slices are chilled first, so I figured that either the grain is the wrong way or there would be a lot of fat. The can does indeed suggest a lot of fat.
Perhaps frying it, like fajitas, is a plan. I figure the taste is "beef", and the fat really adds taste, but the amount of fat may make "acquiring a taste" for corned beef just a bit difficult.

All of the recipes I find online involve baking, or maybe chilling the stuff and making sandwiches. I was hoping for something that involved frying up "strips", like fajitas, but this may not be possible.
Every once in a while I decide to try to extend my dietary limits. It's tough, as I ALWAYS fail with fish and seafood (so: no more).
I suppose various types of canned chili will have to do.

I was thinking about our rights and the recent decision by the government that birth control was a "right" and if you couldn't afford it, then the government would help out. Why not argue the same for guns? That's called "ear candling" and it's one of those goofy new-agey type things. Supposedly the ear wax somehow diffuses into the wax of the candle, and gets wicked up and burned. It's a load of hooey, as you surmised.

Thanks AOP. I've always had BAD LUCK with canned meat, certainly straight from the can, no heating.
To some extent, I'm looking for additional menu items that I can simply heat up, grill or fry on a small propane or Coleman stove in under 10 minutes, and that maintain my same standard of living.
Mercifully, C-rations are long gone, but they had merit: the can could be opened, then heated up, and (given the correct can) the results eaten. One can was enough calories for someone doing a lot of moving.

Depends on the price point. I don't buy this kind of stuff often, so I don't really know what's typical. At the grocery store I was just at tonight, a 12 oz can of corned beef was $3.99, apparently some sort of sale price. That works out to $5.33/pound.
Seems a little pricey to me. Especially as a bunch o' years ago I remember buying that same 12oz can for $1.25 (admittedly, a huge bargain, which I simply couldn't pass up, so I bought a few cans).

Also look at the canned ham in those egg-shaped tins. Some of it is very tasty, and it's not pureed meat. Actually has texture. And there is canned bacon, and canned butter on the market.
Canned goods will keep for years, but they are kind of expensive for what you get, considering a large part of what's in there is water. And they are kind of heavy and bulky if you have to carry them with you. But they certainly have a place in one's emergency preparedness plans. Need no refrigeration, dust and rodent-proof, withstand flooding, etc.

AOP: Part of this exercise is to find out what canned items are worth having on-hand. I'm not worried about even a partial economic collapse (but CA is really hurting, and there are signs that things could get real stupid), but the geologic clock says at least one of the faults around me should move within the next 2-5 years, and an 8.0 is entirely possible.
Then there's the fuel cost: 2 or so hours of food prep is a lot of fuel. 5-10 minutes to bring a can of chili to a high-simmer makes much more sense. Throw in some grilling time for onions, bell peppers, etc... or maybe stir-fry. I figure a propane cylinder might do 20 of these meals.
1 can of corned beef or ham looks like enough meat for one person for 3 days of hard physical labor, or 7-10 days of office work ... provided the stuff can be acceptably prepared and the remaining portion can be refrigerated.
I expected the grease, but some can be drained and some can be fried out. The water is a small problem, and I suppose part of the price for a can of meat that will stay edible till mid-2017. The salt is a problem; how much will drain out with the water or fry out?
Perhaps hash is the plan. Perhaps I'll try molding strips, frying them and seeing if good comes of it ...

Pardon me for not buying that big difference between the two polls. The
approval rating gap just tells me there are a lot of people afraid of
being thought of as racist by the glorified telemarketer on the phone.

Wow! What a tremendous illustration of how much space is between the two ideologies.
And it's not going to get any better. And waiting for "Congress, President, Judiciary" to play nice is futile. Government, by its very definition is there to limit its own activity. But that's gone now. The "governor" on this engine no longer limits the throttle. It shoots the driver in the head and loads the trunk up with Mexicans and steps on the gas.
