Dumb Show: Vote on Chuck Hagel Delayed, on Ted Cruz's Request

He asked for a delay in the Stupid Vote to consider the Stupid Testimony offered by the Stupid Witness.

The Senate Armed Services Committee will not hold a vote Thursday on the confirmation of secretary of defense nominee Chuck Hagel, according to reports.

“Hagel vote won’t be tomorrow in Armed Services,” Politico’s Manu Raju tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “Levin: “The committee’s review of the nomination is not yet complete.”

Hagel’s murky financial entanglements are a major concern in the delay, according to sources close to Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC).

Cruz wants all of these questions about his "financial entanglements" answered.

Like Chuck Hagel understands any of them.

I'm not saying he's stupid.

His tests and teachers and friends and postman are saying he's stupid. I'm just saying "Heed their words."

42 Sessions is also waiting for the results of an investigation into whether Hagel knew that in 2007, a female staff member in the senator’s office reported sexual harassment by a senior male staff member.
Hagel’s chief of staff from the time of the incident, Lou Ann Linehan, told Foreign Policy that she did not bring the incident up with the senator because it did not require a termination. She said she handled the incident and thought it was resolved; she also described it as a dispute, not sexual harassment. ”The term sexual harassment shocks me a little bit. I wouldn’t have put up with anything that was actually sexual harassment,” she said.

Yes. They are in a win-win situation.

If he's nominated, the MSM will hang the defense cuts around the neck of a former republican senator.

If he isn't, they can nominate absolutely anyone, safe in the knowledge that republicans would be hesitant to "bully" two candidates in a row.

That being said, the best case scenario would probably be to have it go to a vote with every R voting no, and forcing some red state senators to make an uncomfortable vote. If the vote against Obama it helps, but then Hagel is confirmed with only 51 or so votes.Kind of a loss for Obama NO?

I'm still kind of liking McCain in at defense. One, it gets him out of the Senate and hopefully you pick up someone better. Two, I do think he takes defense very seriously and would honerably lead it.

190 Personally, I think we are overestimating the value of Hagel being an R to benefit Obama.

I agree. Plus, with all of this angst over his nomination, he's become "Obama's Pick" not a "courtesy reacharound the aisle pick".

I'd still rather it be undersecretary nobody who is promoted to the position.

194 Jay Carney tried the "i'm flabbergasted that the Republicans would do this to one of their own" gambit but i don't think anyone takes it seriously

195 Speaking of stupid. If this is what Karl Rove thinks is a "brutal attack ad" then the conservatives and the tea party have nothing to fear from him

Although if you think back to the debates, the republicans seem to reserve their brutality for their own.

197 also i know they really have no political relevance, but in the event Hagel went down the tears from the paleocon crowd would be delicious

203 Oh the bullfrog sits on the railroad track
picking his teeth with a carpet tack
and when the 5:15 comes around the bend,
sing polly wolly doodle to the end

Camptown ladies sing this song
doo dah doo dah
Camptown races five miles long
all the doo dah day

Bet my money on a bob tailed nag
doo dah doo dah
somebody bet on the bay
all the doo dah day

Come down here with my hat caved in
doo dah doo dah
go back home with a pocket full of tin
all the doo dah day

204 Obama is putting Hagel in thereas a republican face on his policy of appeasement. Maybe he'll teach Chuckieto bow to the Chinese too.
