30 I suspect that Dick did see this coming.

Watching him try to explain / defend his obviously wrong predictions on Fox, he had a pronounced air of defeat about him. Like he knew that the last stop on the Fox Gravy Train Express was fast approaching.

I did find it hilarious that someone brought up his failed predictions every other time he was on air though.

65 >>>lots of people were happy to believe his predictions

And? Everybody likes good predictions. You say we were denying reality, while that may very well have the smallest grain of truth, what we were denying is the opinions of those who had shown themselves to be dishonest to us for political reasons in the past. Now Morris falls into that category as well. And he is shunned likewise.

I would take one pollster I could unconditionally trust to be accurate over every rosy prediction in the world. None of them are deserving of that trust.

The groundswell is building for John Boenher to be the next President of the United States of America based on his strong performance as Speaker.

Jeb Bush also looks likely because everyone wants more of that sweet sweet Bush compassionate conservatism. A Bush trifecta!

183 178 And while Kucinich is a diehard liberal (and a goofy midget one at that), he's also a rare bird in the sense that he's a relatively honest (as in consistent) one. He's not prone to doing an ideological 180 based on whichever direction the Obama wind happens to be blowing like most. Add on Allan Dershowitz and (if he weren't so old) Nat Hentoff, and you could have some interesting left-right conversations.

186 Sven, I think we would just waste a lot of time analyzing a question that has an easy answer. One, the country has shifted a little leftward, and two, Mitt Romney was just a bad candidate. Not a bad guy, just a bad candidate. As for 2008, I don't think any republican could have won. The circumstances were just too favorable for Obama.

I supsect that we will have much better choices of candidates in 2016. If we lose then, then I will revise my statement to say that the country has shifted a lot leftward.

Thats why the likely voter screens (usually the best predictor historically) were off, and the loose screens or all adults were on. We were wrong because we thought this election wouldn't be an outlier. Add in the fact that Obama supressed our vote by going all negative all the time and you have your answer why we lost.

After he called me a homophobic racist in a forum one day (his entire body of evidence being that my profile showed my political affiliation as "Republican) I couldn't help myself.

I told him, "y'know, I really wanted to buy your 50.00 book, but since you hate me and everyone like me, I just can't see my way clear to hand you my money. Oh, and according to Dear Leader, you didn't write that book anyway."

Maybe, I suspect that what has happened is the somewhat gunshy on fiscal conservatism seniors sat out, and are dying off. The party has always been a wary balance of FiCons, SOCons, reformed non New left democrats, soft libertarians and Hawks. Even without the nation lurching left too many feeling ill served within our coalition can lead to the election disaster of the last two cycles.

The democrats have managed to coopt civics from a study of the duties, rights, and roles of citizens and the economic system into "codified grievance and activism."

This means that a 67 year old, and a 19 year old have VERY VERY different answers on what it means to be an American.

Add in the donks trying to import 44 million new donks with NO deference to tradition and it is a toxic mix, I am thinking hemlock.

233 Kasich's betrayal and FOX's swing toward the left are the consequence of using conservatism to build a brand-name.

Look at Kasich- years ago as a young politician-if he goes Dem, he has to stand in line. If he goes conservative/Rep, he stands a good chance of making a name for himself early-on.

Now that he's in- well, who needs those silly old conservative principles? They've served their purpose.

Same with FOX- be the alternative, build a big audience then go with your real beliefs once you make it big. They've been edging that way for years.

From what I've seen over the last few years, there's little principle in the Republican Party (helloooooo, Boehner!)

and a lot of conservative brand-name building to get into power and then discard once in office.

Posted by: naturalfake at February 06, 2013 01:21 PM (UgFxe)

234 sven, I can deal if you have a beef on the whole amnesty point, though I guess I haven't paid enough attention to see what his stated position (and tack on advocacy) is. It isn't something I have much patience with myself these days.

That said, try to limit fire to the current targets. Folks with goofy positions in one area can be abundantly right elsewhere (c. f. Paul, Ron), and the best way to encourage that is not to nuke them when they do get something right. It's hard enough keeping things together--let's at least try to keep the internal sniping reasonable.

(That amnesty crap's Gotta Go, though.)

235 O will not use his machine in 2014. Dems will try to of course but I don't think O cares as much about them winning. I suspect our party is failing because the several components that make it up are more interested in purity wars and slaying the nemesis within the ranks demon more than beating the shit out of the communists.

241 sven10077,

I'd like to agree with you about Boehner because I agree with your point about "purity wars".

The fact is- on the budget- Boehner is constitutionally one of the most powerful people in America.

Like Tip O'Neill with Reagan, he needs to publicly define where the budget will go and what he will accept.

And explain in easily understood terms. As well as attack Obama's looting of the next generation to give money to his cronies(green industries, unions).

He could have brought suit against the Dems in the Senate for not producing a budget as required by law. He still hasn't done so.

These are all possible, and more important, easy things to do.

Let's see if he folds on the sequester and takes promised future cuts/reductions in spending.

Let's see if he sues to get a budget out of the Senate.

He won't.

Obama's greatest achievement was to drive spending to levels unthought of before he took office.

Boehner and his backers simply want their turn at the trough.

Sad to say- but look at a man's actions if you want to see his real beliefs.

242 240 Cavil,

Really? Cavil I have spent the majority of my too many posts here counseling clam and trusting in the coalition no matter how odious it may have been to my personal preferences. I do admit that after my period away after the election had cooled in my little oven I have been less a voice for the coalition over all because I sincerely do not see how it can work anymore.

Way too much donated to way too little effect simply to be undermined by some combination of fraud the state govt I vote in refuses to investigate, coalition apathy by TruCons and Luap Nor nation, and biad was liberating.

I am rapidly getting past caring at all.

If the right cannot unify to stop this man then it is of little use period.

243 241 NaturalFake,

I suspect Boehner was hoping to retake the Senate so a budget could be forced, and if a President Romney had been in power the economy stabilized in one fell swoop.

Boehner passed several budgets that were never even put on the floor by Searchlight Stalker. He can ONLY do so much or engage in a pointless impeachment exercise and be accused of partisan witchery and risking a financial downturn.

Does that sound like an excuse?

probably there is also some measure of validity in that analysis.

Harry Reid broke the law 4 years in a row and the American people do not care.

Were I on the Hill I'd not shut the fuck up about that ever, I'd be opening and closing every soundbite every interview every letter back home with it open and close...

"Call President Obama tell him to pressure Harry reid to foloow the law."

I am not in charge, I am not on the hill, and I am not sure I am in the party anymore.

244 Dick Morris is a whore-mongering Democrat operative whose only entertainment value was that he could rat on Bill Clinton.

A whore-monger.

245 A whore monger in the finest Democrat tradition like Sen. Menendez and Eliot Spitzer.

246 sven,

No one's talking about impeachment.

but a lawsuit to compel Reid to follow the law-Easy Peasy.

Plus, a huge talking point in the upcoming election as the Reps would win. The law is clear.

Keep bashing Obama/Reid with it every day in every way.

The brilliance of Chicago politics is that it provides so much gravy to so many insiders that corruption becomes a way of life, even for the opposition.

Unfortunately, Chicago politics "works" because it's a city and the county, state, and nation are there to provide money to offset the waste and corruption.

Chicago politics as national politics means the country goes down the crapper but hey, you'll get your share of graft and be just fine.

247 Gutfeld should take sheps 3 and 7 slot. As long as they let him take PAB and the leg chair.

As long as Gut can stay on Red Eye, that's fine with me. He's good on every show he's on, but Red Eye was first and best. That show just kills me. After the 2008 and 2012 elections, and other times when I just can't take the news straight, Red Eye always comes through for me.

249 Dick Morris on Piers Morgan? What will I watch? Where are Test Patterns when you really need them?

250 He'll be appearing on Piers Morgan on CNN tonight.

Heh. Talk about being reduced to a bottom feeder.
