Two gay West Point cadets accompanied their boyfriends to the military academy's formal winter dances in upstate New York last weekend.

A second-year student, who was not identified, posed for playful pictures with his tuxedo-clad date for a formal banquet as part of the Yearling Winter Weekend. Another cadet was also photographed arm and arm with his boyfriend for the dance held for third year students. The photos of the dates were circulated by Knights Out, a West Point alumni group for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered veterans.

The current student, who is a Yearling - a term for sophomore, is affiliated with Spectrum, a Gay-Straight Alliance of the United States Military Academy.

44 Author’s aside: Some western observers have taken great care to distinguish between Al Qaeda—meaning the original core organization of Osama bin Laden—and Al Qaeda in Iraq, or, as the New York Times has anachronistically termed it, in an admixture of Arabic and Greek terms, Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia. Iraqis and others in the region have made no such nice distinction, referring to this terrorist organization as simply “Al Qaeda” and considering it a direct outgrowth of the extremist movement founded by bin Laden. The author therefore will use “Al Qaeda” and “Al Qaeda in Iraq” interchangeably.

52 - "7 Million To Lose Their Health Insurance Because Of Obamacare"

Definitely. When all is said and done it'll probably be a lot more than 7 million. Employers can't afford Obamacare. So they're cutting hours to strip people of healthcare benefits or they're cutting staff to get under the 50-employee threshold of the law. Elections have consequences.

- "Brace For A Stock Market Accident"

Obviously. Overvalued and overblown markets don't last too long, even in bubble periods, especially when interest rates start rising, as they've been over the past few weeks. At best we'll get a 20% correction. But we also could be looking at a 2008 or 2000-style meltdown.

- "Jonah Goldberg: Education Spending Isn't Smart"

Obviously too broad and generic of a headline.

Federal education spending isn't smart, unless we're talking about specific and defined job training.

State education isn't smart because non-voting conservatives and Democrat identity groups have saddled us with left-wing education spending programs. What we need are comprehensive voucher programs and the evisceration of the Democrat teachers' unions. Merit-based compensation. At will employment. Defined contribution plans, not defined benefit plans. Mandatory early retirements. Longer vesting schedules. Prioritizing the hard sciences. De-funding useless arts programs.

Drain the swamp.

We also need to get the Feds out of the student loan business.

To do all that, however, you have to win elections, not merely pen editorials.

65 I figure that the goal on gun control right now is universal background checks. This accomplishes two things for the gun grabbers --

1. It sets up a new tax, via a ~$50 fee for all transfers including private sales. This new pool of money can then be blown on anti gun propaganda. It also ups the barrier to ownership.

2. More importantly, it sets up a much more comprehensive list of gun buyers. This, coupled with Holder's recent decision to keep all licensed gun sellers' background checks indefinitely, gives the gubmint a full database of owners.

And you just never know when such a list might come in handy.

So they all show up for dinner on their leisurely way to the airport to pay cash for the ticket. 35 miles each way. Get to airport at 7:30 pm , desk at airline can't take cash payment, cash gone to bank , small airport, only a 1/2 dozen flights out a day. Came back here, I asked why she didn't get the cash from her mother, bank it and pay the ticket online etc. Way too easy Al (Bundy). My wife is the only one with a debit card. No she's going to come here on Sunday for church then go again and pay. Did I mention since she's a senior they will accept payment at checkin up to 1/2 hr before flight time ? Way too easy Al . Wonder how many are coming to see her off. Net result , 3 trips to airport for flight, wait till they lose her luggage on the way back.
Reminds me of the FIL truck repair job. SIL was here, truck making horrible noise backing out, couldn't see anything, so she drove home 35 miles, went to auto shop next morning, they told her it was front wheel bearing, too expensive , so Fil drives it all the way back here so I can look at it. Well, it was too hot to touch anyway so went to store to get apprpriate socket (large), came back and got it off, bearing was dark blue and ground to bits, back to store , no they don't sell bearing separately, have to get whole hub from dealer or wrecker, so FIL wants to drive all over region looking for one, I said the wreckers are all closed at noon, so why don't you CALL around on Monday and get one and well install it. Ok finally did that.
Want any more, I've got a million, or as many as MPPPP ?

The house bill on guns, as I understand it, increases penalties for straw purchasers. That's not a bad thing, if we can get the administration to actually prosecute straw purchasers. So far, Congress seems to be holding the line against gun registration (universal background checks).

90 The headline link about the Baltimore stabbing is incorrect.

One: The crime happened several blocks away from the parade route and there is no indication it was related to the victory parade.

Two: At the time of the altercation, 1:40, the parade had actually ended and the crowds were inside the stadium.

Three: The victim was not a man but a 15 years old.

I was there in Baltimore for the rally and actually spotted the police lights and activity on my way back to my car. Ironically that McDonalds is one block from University of Maryland's shock trauma hospital.
