Joe Scarborough, MSNBC's Creature

I was a little sad that Mika was not doing her chirpy parrot thing here.

She does get in a typical Mika crack though.

Speaking of: Kept Conservatives: Prominent Right-Wingers Who Sound Very Liberal.

Have you ever noticed how many of the most prominent conservative voices in America sound more like liberals? I have, and I believe they are in class all their own: they have a special mission and fit a particular profile.

They are what I like to call ‘kept cons.’ They are ‘kept’ by liberals in that kept cons generally work for liberal institutions and seem to fill the role of token conservative; they write conservative columns for national liberal newspapers or appear as conservative hosts or commentators on CNN or MSNBC or CNBC; but they don’t sound all that conservative. You can spot them slamming Sarah Palin or tamping down on the Tea Party. Their usual message is always something like, “I’m a conservative but these other people, these gun owners/southerners/TEA Partiers/Tax Cutters/Randians/Supply-siders/Pro-lifers/Climate Change Deniers/Libertarians/Gun Nuts/ Gold Bugs, etc., are beyond the pale.

The kept conservative’s announced job is to represent the conservative point of view, but their real job is to give the illusion of balance without really challenging any of the core tenets of liberalism. They spend lots of time ‘reinventing’ the Republican Party, and the new invention is always the same: more liberal. They live among liberals, their friends are liberals, and, of course, they are paid by liberals.

...

I wonder: can’t we at least get conservatives in Washington who value their integrity more than their lifestyles?

I just want to link this clip again. I love it so much. Mika does a little of the Chirpy Parrot here.

16 I suspect most of the "kept cons" were never conservative. It's the Brock / Weigel crowd, they are and always were leftists, but they think of themselves as "propaganda infiltrators."

Maybe a few of them really labor under a delusional ideal that the vast majority of Republicans don't represent Republicans, or they're "single-issue" Republicans like inverse of the pro-gun, pro-life, anti-amnesty, low-tax and small-government Union Democrat, or the psuedo-libertarians who vote left because of abortion.

Also, some of them are just trolls.

Have they felt unleashed now that Obama won again or are they tracking left for ratings?

I have also seen people just really, really angry at Republicans and I cannot figure out a good reason.

Do they really think we should just hurry up and pass shit like Sandy Aid or whatever and don't worry about anything that's in it?

Do they think that Obama's plans would work?

Or is it anger in general but they cannot stomach to direct it at the black guy, thus...Republicans!

78 It's somewhat hard to blame them. Seeing stupid shit on Facebook from liberal friends about how we could solve poverty in the world with only $135 billion. I did the math and if you only help those making $2/day or less, that $135 billion comes out to 18 cents a day. Anyone making $2.01 gets no help.

Now it's being passed around by folks who should be able to do basic arithmetic. This doesn't take into account any local inflation that would occur or the fact that that cash wouldn't mean food suddenly pops up to buy or that the regimes these people live in would even allow them to have the cash.

I'm about done with this democracy shit. It doesn't matter if you are right; the only thing that matters to so many is that what they hear match what they believe, and if basic math says otherwise then basic math is a neoconservative conspiracy that can be safely dismissed. There is no future like that.

105 @Aaron, liberalism is more about feeling good. The FB types float that stuff around to make themselves feel good. "Look, see I CARE" and that its.

They don't do the math.

Bono, for example, has done the math. He knows that aid is not worth it and capitalism is where its at. but FB is full of idiots who post that photo of the fat kid at Mcdonalds and the starving African kid juxtaposed as a critique of capitalism.

That one is wrong on so many levels...I blocked that guy from then on out. I do try to post things to FB that might wake people up...just little non-partisan tid bits like the disabled cops in NJ who started a business...he was disabled by seeing dead bodies, but his business was crime scene clean-up. Slowly plant that seed that the police and the firefightrs and the teachers can be just as douchebaggy as the CEO.

The media constantly inspire hatred of republicans in general, and Social Conservatives in particular. They hate us. They, as a group, hate us. They, as individuals, hate us.
I would like to give them good reasons to hate us. Reasons such as we physically beat the dog shit out of them, and because we punched out their teeth for lying. We need to make them as afraid of us as they are of Muslims.

Respect is just another word for "fear."

Yes, indeed. But it'll have to be a Republican who brings it up in the primaries, because the media won't touch it until after the nomination is secured. That Republican will be described as divisive, etc. I had a blog post and flowchart on this going up on my blog tonight. Going to have to re-scope.

110 Seeing stupid shit on Facebook from liberal friends about how we could solve poverty in the world with only $135 billion. I did the math and if you only help those making $2/day or less, that $135 billion comes out to 18 cents a day. Anyone making $2.01 gets no help.

======
Um. Yeah.

Suppose your party controlled the Senate and the Presidency and have enough members in the House to have a strong say in what is going on.

Ok. Now add in a belief, repeated on every blog you visit--and even by your President, that the mainstream media is either neutral or often biased in favor of Republicans.

Compound that with a belief that the Republicans are lying about anything and everything.

Double down with a constant drumbeat that your party's proposals--when they do get explained--are reasonable, necessary and will be successful.

Get it?

They are angry because not one single fact they hear is based on truth and yet, the can see reality--even if they deny it.

And the reality is: Their lives, so very wrapped up in politics, is a life of a loser.

Imagine what kind of loser looks to men he's never met, in a city he's never been to, and a party in which he'll never be anything for all the solutions to his problems in life.

Also, there is no such thing as a happy king. Never was, never will be.

THIS^^^. On two separate instances of the AA same flight from Chicago to Tulsa, I had the pleasure of sitting on the two seat side of one of American's smaller jets with Steve Largent and then later with Tom Coburn. That was during the Clinton years and the passage of DOMA. They both told me how important it was for them to come home every weekend and meet with their constituents all the while ignoring the constant barrage of DC social events. Largent told me that Clinton had a standing invitation for Largent, Coburn, and Watts to come to dinner at the White House, which they kept refusing. Clinton firmly believed in the power of his personal charm and he wanted to charm those three guys.
For those of you who never heard the story, those three rented a small apartment in DC, split the rent, and made it a point to come home to OK every weekend--weather permitting.

167 Maybe the rovians promised scarborough that he'll be the 2016 candidate.

177 The good news: Looks like Miss Lindsey will have a primary challenger, a state senator (hasn't announced yet but says he's leaning towards running). Cites amnesty and global warming as areas of disagreement.

The bad news: He endorsed Ron Paul.

Lindsay probably encouraged it. He wants lots of primary challengers, the freakier the better, so that he comes out on top.

179 168 The Founders did not envision soul-less citizens.

I don't think they envisioned:

Evil being held up as...Good.
Lying being celebrated as...a Skill.
History being rewritten to portray them as villians.
Children being used as political props.

Thereare a lot of things that The Founders didn't envision...
But they knew what Tyranny looked like.
Trouble is...Tyranny has now disguised itself, and snuck in dressed as Santa Claus.

180 For those of you who never heard the story, those three rented a small apartment in DC, split the rent, and made it a point to come home to OK every weekend--weather permitting.

The only reason not to ban representatives from DC and force them to teleconference is that it would probably shift more power to the bureaucracy / lobbyist complex.

But they get "acculturated" to Big Government shortly after they get there and start talking about "compromise" and "political realities" (is it 95 or 122 Trillion in total liabilities?).

"It's okay I had an Estrich fantasy for about 12 years guy...."

Reminds me of Martha Raye doing a Polident commercial.

182 Better term for a "Kept Conservative" would be "House Negro."

183 Kept conservatives (as opposed to those of us in the wild) are like animals in the zoo: this isn't how they really live.

I've just started listening but the irony of the opening lines was just rich:
"people who thoughtI had to scream at you for a couple of hours" --- because that's why people listened to Keith O for years on MSNBC
"because, you didn't want me totell you what you believe by connecting the dots" --- Ahahahahahaha
"speaking down to you like you weren't smart enough to figure it out by yourself" --- This was my favorite one
"you didn't want the same old drivel shoved down your throat day after day" ---- because msnbc always offers such a fresh perspective
Made my morning to listen to the self-delusion of this duo.
