Ex-Convict/Obama Supporter: Demoralize Conservatives by Surrounding Them in the Progressive "Echo Chamber"

This is his plan?

We don't get this already from the Stepford Media?

I suppose he means more of this.

A second way [other than defeat] to demoralize conservative activists is to surround them with the echo chamber of our positions and assumptions. We need to make them feel that they are not mainstream, to make them feel isolated. We need to use the bandwagon effect in reverse...We must isolate them ideologically...

I don't see this working, exactly. It hasn't worked yet, after all.

I do think it does work in some ways, however. This sort of thing actually hardens the opinions of many dissenters. But that's a problem for dissenters -- we get a little gas-lit sometimes and sometimes begin making statements which are less about policy or politics and more about declaring ourselves unbowed and unbroken.

Which, itself, is a good thing. The problem comes when we start treating such pithy, pungent declarations of independence for political messaging.

I think a certain number of the more problematic statements we make come from this process -- the left surrounds us with its sulphuric spin, we begin shouting that we will not be bowed, we take one step too many in that aggressive declaration and the new spin becomes "Look what these Kooky Konservative Krackers have said now!!!"

Ann Coulter and Andrew Breitbart (and Levin and Limbaugh and Michelle Malkin) wrote a lot, and said a lot, but their basic theme is pretty consistent throughout their writing:

fuck

you

Which is a pretty damn important message, actually. Vulgarity aside, I think that just might be the most important political message.

However, I do think we get gas-lit by the left, in the sense that, when it comes to political campaigns, we're so determined to say what needs to be said most of all -- "Fuck. You." -- that we overlook some of the other important things.

The dummies in the middle don't understand the bracing liberation of telling the Power Establishment to go fuck itself. They're dumb, and they don't mind being ruled. So we wind up "not speaking" to these bozos. We sound like we've got some personal issues... which we do.

We take having our bodies and our minds ruled quite personally. Alas, not everyone does.

The problem is that markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent. Money is just another market, one that's been thoroughly mangled by the Fed.

There will be a reckoning and rates probably will rise but there's nothing that says it will happen in the next few years. Holding on to debt you have now, if you can service it comfortably, is fine. Going deeper into debt is just gambling.

The Left continues to mislead, misinform, and twist the plain meanings of words to confuse the mushy middle. What's worse, we have no one on our side who seems willing to tell the truth anymore.

Who (out of the GOP candidates) stood up to say anything about the real state of the economy during the campaign? Did anyone mention the real UE or inflation figures? Did anybody say anything about the real cause of the Housing Crash being the government forcing banks to issue loans to people they knew couldn't pay them back?

It's a problem all around us. They bombard us with untruths, yet no one on our side has any cojones to tell the truth. I look around and say "WTF? Why is this?"

Came to a head (the first time) with the Goldwater wipeout election. Came to a head (the 2nd time) with the Perot-Bush-Clinton fiasco. Came to a head (the 3rd time) with Obama '08. Finished itself off, de facto, in '12, with the Gardasil - deportations - abortion - rape - contraception, etc. farce of a primary and general election season, which gave us Obama 2.0.

"Because half-a-dozen grasshoppers under a fern make the field ring with their importunate chink, whilst thousands of great cattle, reposed beneath the shadow of the British oak, chew the cud and are silent, pray do not imagine that those who make the noise are the only inhabitants of the field; that of course they are many in number; or that, after all, they are other than the little shrivelled, meagre, hopping, though loud and troublesome insects of the hour."

108 Respectfully disagree.

A very small number of non-Leftists (conservatives included) understand the bogus name-calling strategy of the Left. All too often the non-Left joins in, not understanding the implications, just enjoying the thrill.

Denunciation has become standard in our country, far beyond the absurd cry of racism.

A retributive mentality has long since taken hold - - a mentality essential to the totalitarian.

Forget about he who is without sin, and judge not lest ye be judged.

The discernment of degrees has been lost to childish zero tolerance.

Non-Leftists are not as bad as Leftists, but we are pretty bad. Especially, we are quick to express disgust about relatively minor things, meaning minor in the big societal scheme of things, and the eternal facts of human nature.

True, there is no equivalent on the non-Left to the bizarre but highly successful accusation of racism.

There is however the same relentless moralizing, colored-ribbon wearing, self-regarding, cheap pedestal-climbing environment.

To the extent we denounce each other for human failings we all share, we are inviting totalitarianism.

And we are getting it.

The POLICE are not Military, nor are they Militia. Police carry weapons to protect themselves from criminals....yet are just citizens... they are supposed to be following the same laws we are... they are NOT a different class of citizen based on their JOB...

Yet... they carry assault weapons... so they are not out gunned by the 'criminals'.... but I, as a normal Citizen of California, cannot have the SAME level of protection THEY say the NEED to protect THEMSELVES.

153 I remember in 2008 telling someone that Obama's health care plan (the "public option") wasn't bad, I just thought there were better options, even though I knew it was horrible. I just didn't want to sound like I was opposed to everything. But I'm pretty sure his thought process was, "Wow, this right-winger doesn't think the plan is that bad. It must be great!"

Now I know that the better solution is to point out the fascism inherent in all liberal ideas.

154 OK but saying this in response to the preexisting
condition issue (which yes i understand is not a massive amount of
people, but still) isn't gonna convince a lot of voters, even if you're
100% right.

Posted by: JDP at February 04, 2013 07:04 PM (60GaT)

Not a massive amount of people? I'm sorry, you are not a low information voter, you are a no information voter. Claiming that it's not a massive amount of people is so wrong I don't know where to start. Blood pressure issues, thyroid problems, circulation issues, migraines, allergies, lady parts issues, enlarged prostate, heart murmurs, those are all off the top of my head. The reason the no pre-existing conditions clause is so popular is that nearly everyone has something for which they are being seen and they want it to be covered instantly. Did you ever complain to your doctor about your back? Congrats, you have a pre-existing back problem. It is a massive amount of people.

This doesn't even touch the economics of it. If an insurance plan cannot say that a pre-existing condition will not
be covered until one year after the date of the policy, there is no
reason whatsoever for anyone to buy insurance until they are sick.

The problem conservatives face is that we are the ones who tell people that there's no free lunch. People tend to get testy about that.

You do understand that there is no such thing as a Free Lunch?

that the Pre Existing condition fiat is designed to crash the exisiting Insurance system? Because you can now wait until you get sick to pay into the insurance pool? Then take MILLIONS out (as they took off lifetime caps as well)?

According to the IRS, a family of 5 making $120K a Year will pay $20K in yearly insurance premiums.... but will only pay a $2400 a year penalty for NOT having insurance.

So with the ability to buy insuarnce with a pre existing condition, for the SAME PRICE as everyone who has been paying in all along when healthy????

System goes boom.... its an inherent flaw which WILL crash the insurance companies, and lead to the intended goal of a single payer system...

But hey.... crashed system, and a Govenment takeover of that much of the Economy??? you are apparently OK with that....

God is a mean and testy Deity which smites the wicked and demands personal responsibility.

But, really, answer ridicule with ridicule. Leftists like to flatter themselves that they're free spirits and special little snowflakes. In reality, they're more conformist than any 50's Man in the Gray Flannel suit. Point that out relentlessly. Ask them why they are such cookie-cutter stereotypes. Ask them why they are so in love with authority. Ask them why they're not Speaking Truth to Power. Admittedly, it's easier for me to turn the tables on them, because they can't simply say "You're the stereotypical Faux News watcher!" because I'm, not, in fact, the stereotypical Faux News watcher. I'm single, female, and I live in a liberal urban area - and I used to be liberal myself. When I started thinking for myself, I moved to the Right. So I enjoy expressing pity for all those "free thinkers" wedded to the Conventional Wisdom. Challenge their own view of themselves - tell them they're not Brave, not Compassionate, not Smart and not Original - and you'll have them sputtering in rage in no time.

I failed to do exactly that last week and I LIVE in a red state. Two acquaintances at a party started smug snarking about how dems use actual facts in their arguments whereas repubs only use anger and get shouty, then made fun of Rush's hearing loss, that he shouted himself deaf. I kid you not. Civility, what is civility? But I held my tongue and said nothing. I know I'm not the only conservative who does this, holds their tongue to keep the peace, and hates themselves afterward. They probably assume I agree with them. I didn't really do it justice. Here it is:

I have only one firm belief about the American political system,
and that is this: God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a
Democrat.

God is an elderly or, at any rate, middle-aged mate, a stern
fellow, patriarchal rather than paternal and a great believer in
rules and regulations. He holds men strictly accountable for their
actions. He has little apparent concern for the material well-being
of the disadvantaged. He is politically connected, socially powerful
and holds the mortgage on literally everything in the world. God is
difficult. God is unsentimental. It is very hard to get into God's
heavenly country club.

Santa Claus is another matter. He's cute. He's nonthreatening.
He's always cheerful. And he loves animals. He may know who's been
naughty and who's been nice, but he never does anything about it. He
gives everyone everything they want without thought of a quid pro
quo. He works hard for charities, and he's famously generous to the
poor. Santa Claus is preferable to God in every way but one: There is
no such thing as Santa Claus.

He questioned my about my teaching philosophy which was far more traditional than his approach (no grades, group work only, merge all learning levels, no homework, no need to learn research procedures.. and so forth) We also discussed our historical approach, and after awhile I understood I was speaking with a hardcore Marxist. So, who are they at war with?

This needs to be posted everywhere.

***

Oh, yeah.

Chew on this.

Q: When can a police officer use deadly force?
A: A police officer may use deadly force
only when he believes he or another is confronted with : (1) a substantial
risk that another will cause death or serious bodily injury to
the officer or another person unless the officer acts to prevent it;
and (2) use of deadly force presents no substantial risk of injury to bystanders. Model Penal Code § 3.07(5)(a)(ii)(A).

Q: When can a civilian use deadly force?
A: See above. The standards are the same.

Q: Can't a police officer use deadly force to apprehend a fleeing criminal?
A: No. Not unless the fleeing criminal also objectively presents a substantial risk of death or great bodily harm to another.

Q: Are the legal standards governing when the police can lawfully use deadly force any different from the standards governing civilians?
A: No.

Q: Since the police have no greater right to use deadly force than a civilian, and that right is strictly defensive in nature, what is the rationale for giving the police any right to superior defensive firepower that is greater or different than the right possessed by civilians? Especially after the Supreme Court held the Second Amendment protects a civilian's right to possess a firearm for personal defense?

A: THAT is an excellent question.

Said support is recognized as co-belligerance, not enlistment.

There are two major issues that have to be fought in America right now--what gets done, and the manner it gets done, the process, the norms. The way the left is doing the second should concern everyone not actually a Progressive, as much and, in my opinion, more so than what actually gets done.

Get the norms of the game back to "Marquis of Queensbury", this nation has a chance. If not, not.

Yep, they've done that for 80 years, slowly but surely. I've seen it in schools and the bureaucracy and in news - it's not everywhere yet but it's so normal there's no internal push-back against it.

The final version, after they have full control of the institutions, is the Soviet and Chinese version - The Ayers / Prairie Fire version if you will: "People like you are going to be driven out of existence."

And yet LIVs think we're paranoid and it's a conspiracy theory - it's a conspiracy all right, but it's well into practice.

You prog lites simply refuse to learn. And by refuse to learn I mean, deliberately perpetuate your own ignorance by taking no heed of philosophical, metaphysical, and political studies of old. A society that cannot or will not embrace a common ideal of morality cannot gain freedom, and if free will lose its freedom. The disaster of Obama is much deeper than the budget. If the budget crisis didn't exist today, it would tomorrow. Because the rot of the common moral being of the people has made it so.

Don't want to impose our views. Well, no more.

For many years, we have allowed the Left, hell, even outright Communism, to flower here under the guise of "freedom." I'm a conservative centrist too. What allies are you talking about? I had some really good discussions with my Obama voting friends during the election, 20-30 somethings like me. I honestly think quite a few of the "dumb" young voters in my generation are libertarians that just don't realize it yet. They know medicare won't be there for them, and not to trust the government, and a lot even understand the need for getting our fiscal house in order, if you can believe it. But for them, social issues trump fiscal issues EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It is the bridge they can't cross, thus they cannot conceive of voting republican. I could not convince them that Romney would do no harm to our gay friends or their birth control, that his business credentials trumped Obama's flattering words. The media has done its job well, a little too well, in brainwashing them. I hope you aren't including them in your potential list of "allies," because they won't budge from voting dem even if they wanted to.

I'm not sure how far this applies here. The Khmer Rouge actively recruited farm boys, not commies like Saloth Sar. It wasn't just about communist utopia, there was a whole dynamic of the rural areas resenting and HATING the cities.

It would be like if Paris intellectuals recruited from the mountains of North Carolina. And if rural North Carolina had previously been cut off from the rest of the world since 1750 AD. And suddenly the Paris intellectuals started pointing at the people in Washington DC and showing them how well they lived and how decadent their pastimes were.

Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at February 04, 2013 08:11 PM (bxiXv)

Art is the creative output of a individual or group of individuals for a sole, grouping, or open public.

GOOD art is something we can argue about for days, because there is a lot of shit out there. The problem is a lot of theorists have taken the extremely open-ended definition to mean everything not only is art, but is inherently good.

My definition for bad art is much less forgiving.
Bad art requires a third party to "explain" the work because it can't stand on its own. Art can shock, intrigue, inspire, anger, but if the reaction is a result of confusion over the artist's inability to convey what the fuck they are trying to say, that's bad art. And there is a metric shit-ton of that now. It gets elevated because it is "indecipherable" by the very same wordsmiths who feel a superiority and classism because THEY hold the key to...understanding garbage.

Nevermind, THEY get it. And the buyers GET IT. And the artist GETS IT. Since you don't get it, and there isn't anything to get, in your opinion, well, that just shows how low and dumb you are.

That's the line of thinking that is killing a lot of art. There is still plenty of awesome work to see. But in the bigger cities it has been choked out by the overpriced weeds.

Best example of this: MOCA vs Bergamot Station in Los Angeles. MOCA can have great shows, but is mostly about the shows themselves as much of the "work" can't stand on its own. Bergamot is a hive of the new, the experimental, the ever-changing. There's something for every taste there, often crisscrossing genres and themes. And if you don't "get it", there's no sneering.

Destroy conservatives, harvest riches from the ad servers. What could go wrong?

Some people go into the military with mental problems and/or criminal tendencies. Some are functional and do well until some bad day trips them off. I don't want our leftist whores of the media writing this off as just another crazy ass vet who was traumatized by the military.

Maybe it was a case of PTSD from combat - maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was his truck he wanted and killing 2 men were worth it to him. Either way it's a tragedy.

410 Corera has combed available public sources, both official investigations and various memoirs, and added to it his own reporting, most of it from anonymous intelligence sources. His ironic conclusion: “Everyone, including the spies, was convinced by the intelligence that said Saddam had the weapons,” he writes. Yet “they were not sure it looked strong enough to win the argument.”
By everyone, Corera means everyone. As he reminds us, even Hans Blix, the chief United Nations arms inspector before the war, believed that Saddam Hussein had hidden weapons of mass destruction. David Kay, who led the postwar Iraq Survey Group that found no evidence of weapons of mass destruction, went into his search expecting to find the opposite. In this sense, Bush and Blair were just along for the ride.

416 398 I don't get it. most of my childhood friends are righties, and we all went to public school.

Conservative parents are bewildered. They raise kids right and send a fairly well-grounded, intelligent child off to......

.....college.

It's a very common complaint. I was lucky. I allowed (like I had a choice after I raised my hand) Uncle Sams' Motorcycle Club to finish my up bringing. By the time I hit the indoctrination center, they didn't stand a chance. It was very difficult, knowing better, and listening to the drivel they spew. I got constant dirty looks from some of the libprofs for my eyerolls, facepalms and stifled "What the Fuuuh......"'s.

420 The response to my post was pretty much nitpicking and ungenerous. My point was simply that the Right needs to be more welcoming, that's how to make the tent bigger. I'm sure most of you are in real life. It would be nice if more of you were. Change the issues, and I could have received a similar response at Kos.

421 there's select issues conservatives should advocate completely unrelated to economics that naturally will lose them some votes

if it becomes just about deficit-counting what's the point really

422 === 5% of America that thought I was plotting to destroy tampons with Mitt Romney disagrees and is too retarded to breathe but not too retarded to vote.===

Ok then.

=== When polled, the majority of Americans still OPPOSE Ocare.===

The majority doesn't = conservatives. Leftists that think the govt doesn't have enough control and should include single payer are included in that.

It's pretty clear that a majority don't want Obamacare repealed. After the election the Republicans had just won the MAJORITY of the House. Boehner surrenders on repealing Obamacare Where was the outcry?

424 Anyone who is pushing so hard on his "political consensus" gives me the feeling that he is a little unsure of just how solid that consensus is. If he was truly confident in his consensus he wouldn't be posting a strategy like this and insisting on a campaign - it would just happen without the effort because it would be - ta da - The actual political and social consensus.

This gives the appearance of being a Wizard of Oz production, and about as sturdy.

425 I find that referring to 'the echo chamber' as 'the howler monkeys of the Left' will sometimes produce a satisfyingly outraged response: the shortcoming of the tactic being, of course, the dearth of Leftists who know how howler monkeys act.

426 Just so people know...

Robert Creamer, the ex-con who composed that passage, is the husband of Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL). I live in her district - and I can tell you that Creamer's criminal record is invisible to Chicago media. It was not completely suppressed, but not one voter in a hundred knows of it.
