Happy Monday.

Tagg Romney is reportedly mulling a run for the Senate in the Massachusetts special election.

I will once again be a guest on GayPatriot's 'Match The Stars' net radio show this evening, along with PJTV's Stephen Green, the Franklin Center's Tabitha Hale, GOProud's Chris Barron, Conservative Daily News' Michelle Ray, and Dark Side Radio's Kira Davis. It's on the 405 Radio at 9pm ET. I can't promise there'll be fewer vagina jokes than last time, but it's good to have goals.

Funny thing is though, in the first half it was San Fran stepping on their own collective members. In the second half, Baltimore was doing so. 33 Tagg Romney can Mel Gibson me.

Hello, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Thanks for the daily briefing, Gabe and Vic. And thanks to all of you who bought or downloaded The Director’s Cut over the weekend. I hope you enjoy it.

Here’s a story I came across while reading Neal Gabler’s How the Jews Invented Hollywood, concerning the later years of Harry Cohn, the head of Columbia Pictures:

It was almost a rite of passage for the Hollywood moguls to drop the wives who had stayed with them through the years of struggle and pick up with younger, sexier women. For Cohn, the rite didn't extend to his divorcing his wife Joan, but, like so many others, he used his power and position to pluck whatever juicy fruit came his way.*

In those days, Cohn's confidante was a NY music publisher named Jonie Taps, whom Cohn brought out west - nominally to be part of the studio's music department, but really to be Cohn's Sancho Panza, on call 24 hours a day and willing to accompany the studio chief on his womanizing jaunts.

Cohn adored Las Vegas. During one visit, the two were introduced to, as Taps later recalled, “the most beautiful girl in the line at El Rancho.”** After the last show, Taps and the girl (whose name has been lost to posterity) went out and - as you would expect - ended up back at Taps' bungalow. The girl was wearing a grey mink stole, and on the way to the bedroom, she'd thrown it over the dining room table. In the middle of the action, Taps' telephone rang. It was Cohn. On his way back to his own room, he'd seen the mink on the table and was now reprimanding Taps for being indiscreet. “Fuck you, I’m indiscreet,” Taps swore, before slamming down the phone and returning to duty. “I'm not married!”

The next morning, a jealous Cohn asked if he could take out Taps' girl. Taps didn't care, and said so. So Cohn, wanting to one-up his partner, had a new dress and silk stockings sent backstage, then, after the last show, propositioned the dancer. But he decided it wasn't enough to simply take her back to his own bungalow. The girl had a house a few miles out in the desert, and Cohn wanted to have sex with her there, in her own bed. So Cohn's driver took the two of them out, and the eager, horny studio chief was barely out of the car before telling him to get lost.

But once inside the house, Cohn found that what the dancer hadn't told him or Taps was that she lived with her mother and young son. With the sound of his dismissed car echoing faintly off in the distance, a limp, flustered Cohn excused himself and asked her to call him a cab.

She couldn't, she calmly explained. She didn't have a phone.

“So how did you get home?” Taps asked the next morning when Cohn recounted his adventure.

A glum Cohn muttered, “Did you see It Happened One Night - with the thumb, hitching the ride?” That was how he'd done it.

*as I may have mentioned before, his first response to starlet Lucille Ball, when she was ushered into his office, was to unzip his pants and snarl, “Suck it, bitch!”

**The El Rancho Vegas was a casino and restaurant at 2500 Las Vegas Boulevard, where Shirley Bassey made her American debut and Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were married. It burned down in 1960

Thanks so much Vic for the interesting news about he DNA testing indicating that was Richard III"s body found under the parking lot. I have a great interest in English history. My sister and brother-in-law live in England and I always thought Richard was much maligned. Ever since reading the detective story, "The Daughter or Time" by Josephine Tey many years ago, and doing research subsequently, I am convinced Richard was much maligned and that it is far more likely that Henry VIII did in the princes in the tower. I am glad Richard will get a suitable Christian burial although it's a shame he can't be buried in York, a city which loved and respected him.

106 If that 55-inch TV set you bought last year suddenly doesn’t measure up to your game-day fantasies, consider this Super Bowl-size alternative: A 152-inch one, yours for a cool half-million. That’s the price tag on Panasonic’s model TH-152UX1, billed as the “world’s largest, 4K2K plasma display” (we’ll get to that 4K2K part in a minute). The set is indeed a massive one — equivalent to nine 50-inch screens and weighing in at a whopping 1,272 pounds. (For one installation at a restaurant, a forklift was used to put the TV in place.) But Panasonic says it’s not just about size: It’s also about picture quality — the 4K2K refers to the resolution — meaning 4,096 by 2,160 pixels. In other words, it can deliver four times the resolution of a standard high-definition set, says Rick Albert, a Panasonic vice president.

114 It’s 100% financing—the same strategy that pushed many homeowners into foreclosure during the housing bust. Banks say these loans are safer: They’re almost exclusively being offered to clients with sizable assets, and they often require two forms of collateral—the house and a portion of the client’s investment portfolio in lieu of a traditional cash down payment.

In most cases, borrowers end up with one loan and one monthly payment. Depending on the lender and the borrower, roughly 60% to 80% of the loan can be pegged to the home’s value while the remaining 20% to 40% can be secured by investments. On a $2 million primary residence, for instance, the borrower could get a $2 million loan, which would require a pledge of assets in an investment portfolio to cover what could have been, say, a $500,000 down payment. The pledged assets can remain fully invested, earning returns as normal, without disrupting the client’s investment goals.

Maybe not theft, but if I cut down a tree out in my front yard, I wouldn't leave the wood unattended for more then an hour. 174 I had a neighbor with a couple trees that blew down in a storm across each other in an extremely dangerous way. I've cut down a lot of 80 to 100 foot tall trees so I'm no pansy-ass when it comes to chain-sawing but I wouldn't have gone within 20 feet of that mess. The clusterfuck had 'serious spinal injury' written all over it. Some guys who worked for the local utility in the tree cutting department stopped by the next day, as they were scouting for free wood and offered to clean it up in return for the wood. The homeowner said 'no deal' as he wanted the wood. I guess he expected it to crash to the ground by itself. I took one look at it and thought it was gonna hang across his driveway for months, maybe years. Or maybe minutes. Totally unpredictable.

So he waited, and waited, and waited. Ended up about a year later paying big bucks -- probably about $800 or so, to get it cut down.

186 1. Richard III was a prick who left two of his nephews to die in a tower so he could steal their rights of accession. Should have left him under the parking lot.

2. From the sidebar: Good for Dan Cathy for reaching out even though he "won" the CFA / GLBT kerfuffle. Even if you don't approve of homosexuality it's dumb to simply write off an entire group of people because of their partner preferences.

3. The Superbowl Singing Newtown Kids will next be traumatized by being dropped like a hot potato when the left is done using them, and by everyone else growing tired of seeing them because they are overexposed. What happened at their school is awful but you do not in fact acquire absolute moral authority (even if others are imputing it rather than you claiming it) merely because something bad happened near you. Let's move on and let them be kids again.

4. Old Sailor's Poet, I bought your book on Friday.

187 Complimenting an author:

A nice thig to say is, "I saw your book."

Even nicer is, "I read your book."

But better yet is, "I liked your book."

But the best compliment of all for an auhor is, "I bought your book!"

Unless its a man auhor, in which the best compliment is, "wow, that's the biggest cock I've ever seen!"

199 #194 Also read "The Daughter of Time" and agree with you. Why does York still hold such affection for him if he was such a terrible person? The answer, of course, is that he wasn't. It's simply that the Tudors (who also influenced the Shakespeare play) controlled the writing of history, much like the left wing does today.

202 Ana although "TDOT" leans to Henry as being responsible there are other possibilities as well for who the murderer of the boys was including Margaret Beaufort (she was certainly an ambitious woman with a motive) and the Duke of Buckingham.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at February 04, 2013 09:21 AM (+qMCO)

203 FenlonSpoke - I formed my opinion from a book I read called Princes in the Tower by Allison Weir, and from Shakespeare's play Richard III.

It was my understanding that "The Usurper" was a generally unpopular cad who first intrigued that the boys were illegitimate, and then later failed to open an investigation after they disappeared. And since he had the most to gain by their murder, their sorry fate has generally been laid at his feet.

That said, I love history, and will be glad to take a look at your links with an open mind.

Posted by: Blacksheep at February 04, 2013 09:24 AM (bS6uW)

204 I just have to say I have such a sinking feeling that Obama wants to mess with every institution we have. I would think that most even gay men would think that admitting lesbians to the BOY SCOUTS is imbecilic. I have a son who's a Boy Scout. I don't want girls in the Boy Scouts. Lord knows the scouts have had some serious scandals but when it works well it an ideal place where boys have positive role models. My 13 year said "Does President Obama even know that there are Girl Scouts?"

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at February 04, 2013 09:25 AM (+qMCO)
