19. Why do I get the increasingly sinking feeling that we will never win another election again?

***
Me too and this is why. In any contest between God and Santa Claus, Santa will win every time:

"I have only one firm belief about the American political system,
and that is this: God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a
Democrat.

God is an elderly or, at any rate, middle-aged male, a stern
fellow, patriarchal rather than paternal and a great believer in
rules and regulations. He holds men strictly accountable for their
actions. He has little apparent concern for the material well-being
of the disadvantaged. He is politically connected, socially powerful
and holds the mortgage on literally everything in the world. God is
difficult. God is unsentimental. It is very hard to get into God's
heavenly country club.

Santa Claus is another matter. He's cute. He's nonthreatening.
He's always cheerful. And he loves animals. He may know who's been
naughty and who's been nice, but he never does anything about it. He
gives everyone everything they want without thought of a quid pro
quo. He works hard for charities, and he's famously generous to the
poor.

Santa Claus is preferable to God in every way but one: There is
no such thing as Santa Claus." ~ P.J. O'Rourke, Parliament of Whores.

44 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, February 03, 2013. On this day in 1959 Rock ‘n Roll died in a corn field in Iowa.

And Waylon Jenningsnearly drank himself to deathbecause his last words to Holly were "I hope your plane crashes."

Hey, 'rons and 'ronettes, tell me something - on the way in to work (don't ask) I heard a news report about the Undertakers’ Association in CT having a little get-together to honor the work done by the locals in burying the Newtown kids. The head of the Association said it was a chance not only to honor their members, but, and I quote, “to share a few hugs” with each other over the “tragedy.”

Am I a heartless bastard, or am I just out of sync with TFG’s Amerikkka when I yelled WTF? “Share a few hugs?” What kind of limp-wristed ball-less nation have we turned into?

Yes, I know – the kind that put a dog-eating, Indonesian-raised, admitted cokehead into the office of the Chief Magistracy. If the Founding Fathers had seen how we squandered the birthright they gave us, they could have saved themselves a lot of time by cutting the Revolution short. Washington could have spent his days happily riding the fields of Mount Vernon and Franklin could have happily spent his days riding whatever saucy wench happened to be his mount that day.

50 Lot's of hopelessness running around. And it does look grim at times.

It did for their cause too, once upon a time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnFslAH6Gro&feature=youtube_gdata_player

But they knew one man couldn't do it alone--that they themselves, coming from their states, would nobly save or meanly lose the spirit of the thing, this American Experiment. Only way it could happen. So they joined up. And stayed firm to the cause, even in the darkest days.

Join up. Once more into the breach, and then stand firm, ye boys of America.

Nearthe end of theWinter Tour, Holly hired a small plane to take him and a couple of others to the next stop so Holly could get some rest.Originally Holly, Waylon and Ritchie Valens were the passengers, but the Big Bopper had a horrible cold, so Waylon gave up his seat. Holly joked about Waylon going back to the cold tour bus, and that's when Waylon made his return comment. It was a joke, but Jennings never forgave himself for saying it.

76 Let's see. The Tea Party started in early 2009 in reaction to the corrupt bank bailouts, the concept of entities being "too big too fail," and out-of-control government spending.
It's 2013.
1. The mega-banks have gotten bigger. The Fed has recapitalized the banks by literallly giving them money for nothing, weakening the dollar and slowly eroding the purchasing power of the average American. Corporations continue to make record profits due to unprecedented gains in worker productivity. In spite of productivity gains, wages continue to stagnate, and it gets tougher and tougher for middle-class Americans to remain in the middle class.
2. Glass-Steagall has not been reinstated. Even a heavily-Democratic congress and a leftist Democratic president were unwilling to take this simple step. Is there any doubt that Wall Street owns Washington?
3. Government spending continues to grow to ludicrous levels. Bureaucrats and managers thrive, both in thepublic and private sectors.
4. The Tea Party's ONE VICTORY: busting unions. In states across the country, workers are effectively losing the right to negotiate for higher wages or better benefits.End result: lower wages for everyone.
Do you ever wonder whybusting unions has been the Tea Party's only accomplishment? You think maybe the TEA PARTY might havegotten a bit "co-opted..."
Just a thought. I'm sure the Republicans will make "mighty" efforts to limit government when they get back in power.... That, or they'll go after bogeymen and continue to expand the state's scope and power.

Merely a 1-minute vid using the unshoppable pic would've been up yester, except my 10yo XP with the cheap software choked on my overproduction. Bah! I've always pushed my  digital limits.

Also, hints of dawn at 6:30, and I think a skeeter got me in the night. It's practically Summer! (Mo-squito, not BO-skeet-er.)

Also, new House of Sunny, first since Nov. Yay, Sunny!

Tried to go to YouTube to get the URL, forgetting that YouTube locks up Opera mini on my new Android cell. Lost 1st copy of this comment. tried to compose in note app & cut & paste but the formatting differs - adds spaces & line feeds. Latest comment was #9 when I started this reply. Technology hates me. 95 #99 The builder of my 1970's house also didn't put lights in all of the closets, just some. Also a bunch of other stuff was left out or cheapskated by the original owner. The worst part is the original owner was 6'6" tall, so he had all the shelving in the closets extra-high. I have to get a stepstool to get shoeboxes and such.

My house, built in the 50s, doesn't have them. I guess they're more of a newfangled idea.

The crawlspace didn't have lights either, but I had an electrician install a couple when he was doing other work.

I mean solid brick, with walls 3 bricks thick, even INTERIOR walls. NO closets. My parents downstairs bedroom had a wooden closet cabinet built in the 1920's, covering an area between a chimney and an exterior wall. The upstairs bedrooms had no closets at all. My parents bought old wardrobes and extra chests of drawers for us.

We also had no heat upstairs and little electricity, but that is another story.

150 #146 Your landlady was correct. Most people had few clothes, especially farm people (which is who my house was originally built for). Since that was the era of the Saturday night bath (which was a big production due to no indoor plumbing), people usually just wore the same work clothes and hung them on a peg or the bedpost.

Our house had a kitchen that had been added on in the 1920's as well. Before that, the kitchen had been in a separate building. When we moved in, the 1920's kitchen had free-standing cabinets and not many of those.

Also, the basement had a DIRT FLOOR!

Everyone at the table shrugged including 13 YO boy who remembers her.

Every single pict of the JEF should have him targeting and destroying what he is truly targeting and destroying: Unemployment, health care, the Constitution, 1st, 2nd amendments, liberty, private property ownership, etc.

Basically, have him shooting up America and its very foundation, but using his actual policies and/or examples to educate.

227 I've never lived anywhere that had lighted closets except for the walk-ins attached to the master bedroom.

The room I had for many years in the family home started out as two rooms and was converted to a single big room by my sister and her then husband. The wall that was taken out had also contained the closets, so I had a couple of wardrobes for hanging clothes and drawers for socks and such. It was a worthwhile trade-off for having such a large space. I knew people in smaller apartments than that room.

The big annoyance was when they first set out to knock out the closet wall, I was in the next room down and had my windows open due to it being summer. A layer of plaster and dry wall dust that came around the corner of the house and blew in my window had covered everything in my room when I got home.

He highlights the reason we lost--Republicans should just try to deal with Democrats on immigration rather than stand up to them. Disgusting, when the country is circling the drain with debt and spending, all the focus is on guns and immigration! Thanks for allowing me to bloviate!
