Top 10 Myths About Mass Shootings. So while our elected dimwits continue to think that passing legislation will somehow stop mass killings, they do nothing about things that are far more likely to happen to your precious child in school. Namely sexual assault/abuse by their teachers.

Statistical sampling of the student population nationwide indicates that 4.5 million students currently in grades K-12 have suffered some form of sexual abuse by an educator, and more than 3 million have experienced sexual touching or assault.

Clearly, we need to ban mace now. Beware The Muffin Macer.

Scientific Study

All of you morons who thought breasts just bounce, well science says no. Evidently, They Do Figure Eights.

This study aimed to assess the trajectory of breast displacement in 3 dimensions during walking and running gait, as this may improve bra design and has yet to be reported. Fifteen D-cup participants had reflective markers attached to their nipples and trunk to monitor absolute and relative breast displacement during treadmill walking (5 kph) and running (10 kph). During the gait cycle, the breast followed a figure-of-eight pattern with four movement phases. Despite a time lag in resultant breast displacement compared with the trunk, similar values of breast displacement were identified across each of the four phases.

8 Is the Future of Texas Blue?

Texas now stands as a sane bastion of low taxes and business friendliness in a country lorded over by Pres. Obama. In large part, this is due to the solid hold over the state by Republicans. While many in the leadership of the Texas GOP are far from rock-ribbed conservatives, they have nonetheless stood against the blue tide of the Progressive left. The once Democrat state abandoned the democrats as they changed from blue dogs conservatives into the Progressive statists they have not become. However, Texas is second only to California in terms of its population, and hence the number of Electoral Votes to be cast every four years. With a burgeoning Hispanic population, the left sees Texas as ripe for a Democrat take-over; San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro‘s prominent speech during the DNC 2012 convention is proof enough for that.

23 Ode to Spot

Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.

A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

Hitch was pervert, he sexually harassed Tippi Hedren and lied to her about the Birds. They were supposed to be fake birds but they weren't. After Marnie he wouldn't let her out of her contract which is why after two big hits, she didn't make any moves for years.

The small bowl you dip your fingers in when you enter is the stoup. The large separated area where the baptism happens is the font. If it's the water the priest sprinkles on you with the wand thingy, is the aspergillis (sp?).

Is there a special name for that, or is it just "the big bowl thing?"How big is it? If it's just for dipping your hand in when you enter, it's the font. If it's large and separated from everything else, it's part of the baptistry.

When I was a kid, my devout parents had a mini one at the top of the stairs with a small crucifix above it. We used to say our prayers kneeling under that crucifix and always dipped our fingers into the water before making the sign of the cross any time we passed it. Holy Water isknown as a "sacramental."

Hi Carol -- I'm the one who wrote I like Hitchcock movies and thanks for the tip about The Girl -- I hadn't heard of it and I don't have HBO, but I'll keep an eye out on Netflix.

I've heard stories about his being a big old weirdo -- fetish for ice blondes (see all his leading ladies), casting women and then becoming obsessed with them, harassing them for some kind of sick personal pleasure, etc. I remember Melanie Griffith (who is Tippi Hedren's daughter) saying in an interview I saw a long time ago that Hitchcock's obsession with her mom basically ruined her career because when she refused to give in to his advances he retaliated by preventing her from getting cast in a lot of movies she otherwise would have. The Girl sounds like something that would be very interesting for me.

172 If the $6 cash tip claim is correct, the pastor did her a favor as that goes in her pocket. A CC tip would go into the shared tip pool.

You can't bury too many cash tips or the IRS gets hinky, but you can bury some.

In reality, it seems the whole thing had nothing to do with the tip and everything to do with the waitress being hostile towards religion of any sort. As I understand it, the whole thing originally erupted on an atheist BB and mushroomed from there.

The tip was just the convenient rationalization she used to take a cheap shot at religion in a forum where the audience would be fawning.

If I had to guess, this girl is one of the nasty militant flavored atheists who never misses an opportunity to bait the godbags and provoked the pastor during the meal.

I'm such a novice. I think I have sold 31 copies in a month with no marketing. Gave away another 10 to local bookstores and the local library. To be honest, I have no clue what I'm doing. If it's good enough someone in the business will pick it up and who knows. If not, It was a life achievement and good therapy for me. It is a very personal book.

OSP, I read your preview over at Amazon. That sounds like a good read. Very personal.

Save me a copy, I'llget one when I get some money.

Bull-effing-chit.
It's a staged photo-op -- maybe back during the GE but not used due to the CO theater shooting -- but he's not even on the shooting range at Camp David.
Nonetheless, they want to make this into a "birther" thing and I don't think we should let them. They released that photo for the lefties to have an excuse to dismiss our 2nd Amendment arguments because *they* will buy anything (and they wouldn't know a shotgun from a hole in the ground) not to actually prove he skeet shoots "all the time."

That's the whole point, isn't it? Today's battle rifles. They didn't have semi's or auto's back then, because they weren't around. They had musket muzzle loader single shots... But, those single shot muskets were the advanced battle firearms of their day. They were assault muskets.

If the 2nd amendment didn't intend citizens to bear the standard firearms of the day, it would've said that they could have swords, but not muskets. Muskets have a much greater rate of fire than swords.

>>>oH BO was trap shooting, not skeet

The WH releases a
photo to prove Obama skeet shoots "all the time," the MSM gleefully runs
it sneering at us "skeeters" for doubting gun-prowess of Dear Leader
(all while describing a shotgun as a rifle) and *now* when the entire
right laughs at the fact that he is shooting level with the ground, the
MSM clarifies that he was trap shooting.
Bull-effing-chit.
It's a
staged photo-op -- maybe back during the GE but not used due to the CO
theater shooting -- but he's not even on the shooting range at Camp
David.
Nonetheless, they want to make this into a "birther" thing and
I don't think we should let them. They released that photo for the
lefties to have an excuse to dismiss our 2nd Amendment arguments because
*they* will buy anything (and they wouldn't know a shotgun from a hole
in the ground) not to actually prove he skeet shoots "all the time."
We should just laugh at what passes for an Alpha Male among the lefty betas.

As I was laying on the table, my doc takes one of those old style, double-sided, decidedly "non-safety" razors, puts it in a pair of hemostats, grabs Phobos and Deimos, and says with an evil grin, "Are you a Democrat or a Republican?"

339 Okay, where I do a brief review.

Silver Linings Playbook

Honestly, this kind of comedy isn't really my cup of tea. And by this kind of comedy I mean any comedy made since Ben Stiller got big. It's got the kind of social farce slash satire slash "everyone point and laugh at all the stupid people acting like jerks" kind of thing that I never understood. In that regard, the comedy falls almost entirely flat. Only time I laughed was at one little bit of the climax and...well, if you have seen it you'll know which part I mean. Deduct one star.

And every time Jacki Weaver, who plays Bradley Cooper's mother, is on screen I want to punch in her stupid face. Deduct half a star.

Now with the negative out of the way, let me talk about where this movie excels.

It's a lovely and sweet and kinda goofy romance with some outstanding performances that, when dwelled upon, can't help but make you feel pretty good.

Bradley Cooper plays a guy with bipolar disorder only diagnosed as such after catching his wife fucking around on him before beating the shit out of same guy. Eight months later, getting released from a psyche ward, he's trying to pull his shit back together and struggling somewhat when he meets Jennifer Lawrence who is also kind of a borderline nutjob who went on a whoring spree after her husband was killed in a freak fraffic accident.

Oh, before I forget, Robert De Niro is also in it. He basically plays the same character he played in Meet The Parents but with a major case of obsessive cmpulsive disorder.

Where was I? Right.

So Bradley Cooper is scheming to find a way to get a message to his now ex-wife who has a restraining order against him and Jennifer Lawrence is willing to help out if he'll be her dance partner for a dance competition etc etc etc.

The story itself is nothing new, but to me that was besides the point. The story starts off following Bradley Cooper, he's at a low point. Things get a bit lower. Then slowly but surely we pour on the romance. So this is a movie to see for performances and let me tell you they are outstanding. Bradley Cooper, who apparently was in movies like The Wedding Crashers and The Hangover (the kind of movies I actively avoid) was great. Jennifer Lawrence is a goddamn phenom. And...holy shit, Chris Tucker? Wow! Wondered what happened to him.

Anyway, at the beginning of the movie I was a little bored but once Jennifer Lawrence enters the film takes off like...like...something prone to taking off in a stunning way.

I'm not sure if I should say Lawrence and Cooper sizzle on screen, that might not be accuragte, but the movie certainly lights up every time they're on screen together. Anything else that happens I couldn't care but get my dear Jennifer on screen and BAM! Magic.

Okay, maybe I'm just in love with Jennifer Lawrence.

Am I rambling? Well, all my reviews are just rambles but I'm really rambling now, aren't I?

Anyway, there's really not much to say about the movie story-wise. It's pretty simple and straight forward. It's starts off kinda weird and gloomy but by the end everything is right with the world and you walk away feeling pretty damn good.

3.5/5 stars

Think it was said here at AoS that only a very small percentage of the population actually fought on "our" side in the Revolutionary War and that the majority (more than 52%) either just didn't care or were loyalists (some fighting for the Crown). I think the current situation is similar except that the active revolutionaries, even though actually small in number, control enough power and are violent enough to do the rest of us serious harm (certainly financial and eventually physical). We ignore them at our peril, and they are not all Democrats.

349 Well just another report from behind enemy lines over at space battles. They are just creaming their shorts over the oncoming Progressive electoral lock they will get because of demographics. There are some that are even talking about pushing to have Republicans and their families executed for economic terrorism and treason...I shit you not...the mask has really come off for some of these guys.

When this "electoral lock" is at some point combined with "a solution to the debt crisis," the left can wake me up with news of a permanent Democratic majority. Until then, don't waste my time.

A pyramid scheme is remains a pyramid scheme, no matter how much money you throw at it, no matter how popular you make it, no matter how many supporters you bring into it, or how difficult you make the task of those fighting it. A pyramid scheme is a pyramid scheme and it shall fall.

The only question is how quickly and how much damage it does in the proocess.

Posted by: t-bird at February 02, 2013 11:57 PM (FcR7P)

That's the Reader's Digest version. The "official" story is that the Stadium Authority shall issue bonds that will be paid back through certain unenumerated (translation: pixie dust and unicorn farts -- all the tickets and concessions and the like are stripped-out in advance) revenues from the stadium.....and if they're not, the citizens are on the hook for about $450M -- which, divided by the number of residents, is about $4K per capita. Since you can only avoid this by not having property in Santa Clara when it happens, it's effectively a claim against our home's value of $8K.

Supporters claim that nobody should criticize the deal until the final default -- but I'm an accountant, and the rules are that you take losses as soon as you can measure 'em.

397 From the myths article

"here has been an average of 20 mass shootings a year in the United States, each with at least four victims killed by gunfire."

That seems high?

"Myth: Expanding “right to carry” provisions will deter mass killers or at least stop them in their tracks and reduce the body counts.

Reality: Mass killers are often described by surviving
witnesses as being relaxed and calm during their rampages, owing to
their level of planning. In contrast, the rest of us are taken by
surprise and respond frantically. A sudden and wild shootout involving
the assailant and citizens armed with concealed weapons would
potentially catch countless innocent victims in the crossfire."

and this is just ridiculous. How could crossfire be worse than execution.

403 While I have always been one to push for peaceful forms of protest and won't resort to violence myself unless attacked, I feel it has become time to start looking at the idea of violent resistance.

We on the right are always being told to distance ourselves from those "nuts" who commit violent acts. The left doesn't. The left condemns the act of violence, most of the time, but they don't condemn the "reason" for the violent reaction by the leftist. Hell they many times even end up blaming the victim of left wing violence for making the leftist act in a violent manner.

I for one am sick of it. We need to stop playing the game by their rules and we need to start treating them as who they are. They are our enemies. Enemies who wish us harm, enemies who wish our families harm, and enemies who wish our country harm.

Am I advocating violence...no...feel free to do what you want, but don't turn on those on our side who decide to be more direct.

The actual reality is that when the assailant is confronted by an armed citizen he usually offs himself...or gives up...before the magic 4 victims number is reached, therefore never reaching "mass killing" status. Here's another inconvenient truth...all but one of these mass killings in the past 10 years or so have taken place in gun-free zones (the Gabby Giffords shooting is the lone exception). In other words...the myths article is perpetuating myths. Wonder why?

I decided to hook my wagon to my wife, and her family, 25 years ago, simply because of this old woman's cooking. Call me stupid, but it worked.

415 Don't know if anyone has mentioned something similar, but to anyone even indirectly familiar with trap shooting from regular observation (and say, more familiar with rifle and pistol competition, but hangs around at the trap range of his gun club) could tell you a few things about that Obama trap shooting picture.

That's obviously not his shotgun, nor does he look comfortable or familiar with it. The way his face is mashed into the stock, as well as the low position of his left elbow and the high position of the stock in his shoulder pocket are improper form, and could likely be because the 'length of pull' (distance from the trigger to the end of the stock) for that particular shooter/shotgun combination is incorrect... and can lead to an improper hold (poor mounting) and poor trigger control.

While the President may be wearing eyes and ears - he is not wearing a vest or pouch for additional shells for his 2-shot o/u shotgun. Unless he is only shooting at 2 birds and calling it quits, there are no tables or benches anywhere on the shooting positions to lay additional ammunition at arms reach. That's why you wear a vest or pouch!

I wish we had a picture of his shoes as well. Trap shooters wear a little button on the front of one shoe to hook/rest the barrel of the empty shotgun on, while they are waiting or jawing while off the position pads. That would be another telltale that would give away a regular trap shooter.

This is clearly a staged photo... but you guys already knew that. What I personally can't understand is why his handlers didn't at least provide the Emperor with the proper raiment for his Royal trap shooting excursion. Perhaps some of that Royal Obama arrogance? Only his SS detail knows for sure... and they ain't talking.

423 Oh man!

A variation on Hide-And-Seek was called Cops & Robbers/ Jailbreak! when I was a kid.

It was AWESOME!

Taught you how to LIE!

3 entire neighborhoods, with kids from 7-14 would get in on the game in Naperville IL.

Two Teams.

Cops & Robbers.

Some centrally located driveway was "Jail".

If you got tagged out you had to go to Jail and just wait there. Could get boring but... The parents whose driveway had been designated as jail usually had snacks.

Sometimes the Robbers would send a scout (3rd Grader) to get past the guards and touch toe and shout, "Jailbreak!", letting all the prisoners loose to be collected again.

I swear, one time, we must have had 70 kids playing this on a warm June night.

3 neighborhoods, 7-14 age wise, and the parents (and even non-parents!) just pulled out lawn chairs to listen to a horde of screaming children play the bestest EVAR game of Hide-And-Go Seek in the world.

Trampling gardens, scaling fences...

The litteler children were catching fire-flies in Mayonaisse jars with holes punched into the lid...

This was back in the 80's when most parents didn't really give a shit WHAT you did, so long as you came home in a timely fashion for dinner.

WHOO HOO. seems i was working on getting blood poisoning. Yes i am still Working on Tiny House. Why do you ask? On January 16, 2013, President Barack Obama issued 23 executive actions against your 2nd amendment Constitutional right to bear arms. He did this without the consent of Congress which in itself, violates the foundation of the Constitution and the co-equal branches of government.

In response to these unconstitutional actions by the President, on .223, February 23, 2013 the American people will stand together in defiance to protect the right that protects ALL of our rights, the 2nd Amendment! We don't, the left always manages to, at the very least, justify the violent behavior of their supporters even if they are forced to condemn the violent act itself.

The left has gotten used to us just rolling over on our own and throwing them under the bus when they do anything even semi controversial, we need to take a page out of the left's playbook and defend our own tooth and nail no matter what.

Had yet another discussion with a close friend who is also a lefty. He
owns a .357 so he's not opposed to guns, but is repeating the "assault
rifles need to be regulated thing because when the 2nd amendment was
written...muskets...single shots...today's battle rifles... blah, blah".

I told him that AR-15s are not battle rifles because they are
NOT select-fire automatic, and that they are not new technology having
been developed in the late 1950's, and that NEW technology is a freakin'
Predator Drone with Hellfire Missiles that you can drive from your
office, couch, or bathroom (if so equipped). And I said I WANT ONE. He
laughed, and hopefully got the point.

Posted by: Tobacco Road at February 02, 2013 11:07 PM (4Mv1T)

I have been telling them that "freedom of the press" only applies to newspapers that are printed on a Gutenberg printing press since that was the technology of those times. TV network news and radio news have no "freedom" because that technology wasn't around.

They don't see the connection because they say "it's different".

My dreams and I have grown apart;
My grief alone is left entire,

Thus on a naked tree-limb, blasted
By tardy winter's whistling chill,
A single leaf which has outlasted
Its season will be trembling still.”

Ours are sitting on piers made of re purposed oil well pipe (minor welding required. ) they sit a foot off the ground or so. Cool in the summer, good air flow, the cats are thrilled at the new palace. Oh and mine has a covered porch across the 20 ft front, french doors, and a pantry i can lock. Its meant to be an artists studio. I had some friends from the Mts today come in and looks and declare they could live in it. Tax asessor has had it in for me so i cant have it be a permanent structure either. We can lift them with a Big forklift and move it on a flatbed if we want. look up Tiny Texas Houses. thats some gorgeous work, there.

537 As I was born in Denver (remember the Orange Crush!), grew up in Chicago and to this day could give a shit about football...I have to say that I kind of like the fact that a poem was created for the hated Oakland Raiders.

The Autumn Wind is a Pirate!
Blustering in from Sea
With a Rollicking Song
He sweeps along
Swaggering, Boisterously!

His face is weatherbeaten,
He wears a hooded sash.
With a Silver hat about his head
and a bristling, black, moustache!

He Growels! as he storms the country,
A Villian, Big and Bold!
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake
As he robs them of their gold.

The Autumn Wind is a Raider,
Pillaging just for fun!
He'll knock you round and upside down
And laugh when he"s conqured and won!

I hear that the son died but I adore the old Ed Sabol NFL Films.

Never heard of the guy before, but a quick search suggests he acted like Bill Clinton. If he was a dem, that would be just fine, but in the stupid party he has to go, and everybody has to get in a snit about it for at least a week.

547 I do not remember many rational lefties.....that seems to be an oxymoron. Was hanging with the moonbat brother last night, and they just don't consider us to be serious, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are "extremist maniacs", Hagel is "reasonable" and picked on by GOP senators, Obama is a moderate who is stymied at every turn by the obstructionist Boehner and the evil Tea Party. there wasn't much I could say except for "pass the hooch".

Posted by: Damn Sockpuppet at February 03, 2013 05:35 AM (yJYwC)

548 The left used to be relatively reasonable, because they had to be. Back when there was only a couple of them aboard your ship, they would have to be polite and seem likeable if they wanted to get at the helm. If the crew noticed that they were steering towards cannibal island, they would be wary of angering the crew and would engage in a civil discussion lest they be fed to the sharks. Now, though, they've not only got the helm, they've seized the ship and spiked the grog with some nasty shit. So, it's off to cannibal island. If you try to warn them that cannibal island is a shitty destination, you're a racist and you're going to be shark chum.

549 In my personal experience, the lefties didn't go off until the 200 election. Then, it was all about stolen elections, 9/11 trutherism, "lies" about Iraq, torture, Jesusland, etc etc. They manged to get Obama elected...and now that he's been re-elected, the masks are off and it's batten down the hatches. The fact that the national GOP will not fight back doesn't help.

The coolest thing about leftist bullshit is the believer can twist it anyway they want to serve their needs at the moment. That is their greatest strength, but it is also their biggest weakness.

So, suggestion -- politely thank him for for so faithfully telling you exactly what "the corporations" want you to believe.

You will probably get the response "what corporations?" Take that opportunity to name off all the owners of the big media, and point out that they agree with his point of view completely.

In other words, wrap Nader-ized language around his own bullshit and throw it right back at him in a manner that implies he is supposed to feel obligated to defend "the corporations."

Posted by: jc at February 03, 2013 06:05 AM (PlzOe)

551 Man, I try.....nut all I get back in response is that the corps are Republicans, no if ands or buts. Corps are automatically GOP shills, and no facts will convince them otherwise. Fox is merely a propaganda are of the GOP, the other nets are neutral (yes, I've been told this) and MSNBC is the only network with the courage to report reality. If you wonder why so many of us are now Let It Burn advocates, there you are.

They have their own truth. They've managed to get the upper hand in delivering that message,

552 Does anyone give a shit about the game tomorrow? Normally, I would just watch it. But with the asshole in chief even politicizing sports - fuck it.

553 just caught a blurb on foxnews.com that Navy SEAL Chris Kyle was murdered at a Ft Worth shooting range along with another guy on Friday afternoon. The perp then stole his or his buddy's truck and was later caught south of dallas.
damn shame.

557 Nice job on the ONT CDR M. I called it quits at 10 sharp.

The myths article is one of the best I have seen on the subject.

And who knew about the figure 8's. This knowledge is now permanently embedded. I will not need to relearn or over learn about certain figure 8's. It's just on of those things you identify as a universal truth, instinctive knowledge, a law of motion.

558 On the one hand that pastor was a douche.

On the other hand, redditors are the worst.

I'll arm both sides with weapons if they want.

559 One of those "Ten myths about mass shootings" is the "myth" that armed resistance can prevent or stop mass shootings. Except thats not a myth, it the common thread amongst all the attempted mass shootings that don't become mass shootings.

560 Sexual assault by a teacher? well of course let's make sure that they are fully armed. And the moral panic of children sexual assault ? Since the FBI started compiling statistics in 1970 sex crimes against children are now at an all time low.
