18 The great thing is, if you ask most Europeans, their society is so much more just and caring than our society of heartless capitalism.

Me, I look at those growth rates and unemployment rates and I don't wish we were more like them. But it's true that if you're in good with the government, you live pretty well. You just have to ignore the less fortunate - not your problem; you voted for a government that takes care of them. Some compassion.

And that doesn't even address what happens when you run out of money....

Actually Liesman and Santelli are both right. And that's the problem. The FED has tried to stave off a depression with stimulus of one kind or another for over 4 years. They have succeeded in keep the patient barely breathing, but at a tremendous cost that will still have to be paid.

Everybody keeps looking for that free lunch and there isn't one coming. That's the part that Santelli gets and Liesman does not. So far my predictions (which I have not been happy to make) are coming true. A long slow grinding low-level depression that lasts another 8-10 years is what we are facing if the FED continues as it has so far.

And the FED will continue in this fashion.

95 There is one HUGE difference between ourselves and Europe.

The European ruling class is actually a ruling class. They want to rule and if things get out of hand, they actually worry about it.

Obama may be too much in this direction, but the Democrat party has put itself in the position of being a permanent opposition party. Virtually every platform, idea or proposal from the Left is in opposition to something on the Right.

Obama himself and the Dems generally, aren't really interested in whether they actually manage the socialist state, they just want to create it and figure others will manage it later.

They are the party of teenagers with Daddy Issues and they are responding to the Daddy Party as you would expect them to, through irresponsibility and sheer petulance.

While I did not like seeing rates go up for anyone, I do think that havingstable rates, rather than rates that were set to expire every two years, will have a positive effect. It ended because some dude got a speeding ticket going 117 MPH (I think that was the number, whatever it was, it was up there in triple digits). The law didn't say you can drive as fast as you want. The law said you can drive at a safe and prudent speed. The cop said 117 was not safe/prudent. The guy ticketed went all the way to the state supreme court. The court said the law was too ambiguous and tossed the ticket. Shortly thereafter the state legislature imposed a 75MPH limit. But generally speaking you're safe up to 85 even 90 on interstates. I think a ticket for going 10 over is something like $25 so cops don't even bother pulling you over since it costs more than $25 to process the ticket.

That's going to snowball. Canada's system is much worse than Europe's because in Europe there's a two-tier system in which middle-class people have private insurance. Canada's "fair" system explicitly rejects that.

The UK also has been contracting with and outsourcing some ofthe NHS to PRIVATE SECTOR companies because ofit'sinability to provide healthcare to it's populace. (Richard Branson owns such a company). Socialized medicine is not working in other countries with smaller, more homogenous populations.

correct it was one of the first serious posts I did here on anything other than the war.

171 Dirty little secret about Canada: they are allowing
"illegal" free-standing PRIVATE MRI and orthopediccenters to operate.
The wealthy people there don't want towait in line, and now they don't
have to drive across the border to the U.S. for those procedures. We use
to see a lot of Canadians in Seattle prior to this.

Question for you: can you recommend a good cancer clinic in Washington State, or elsewhere? I have a friend here in Canada with lung cancer, and the medical system here has essentially given up on him. What would it cost to get a patient assessed at such a clinic?

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at January 30, 2013 12:16 PM (29+x5)

172 Sven, I hope you are right. I am cautiousl optimistic. I'd prefer to not cut defense, though I don't think it is a sacred cow by any means. And if cutting defense is needed to cut elsewhere, then I'm all for it. But if you think Boehner may hold the line here, why do you think he can't do it on blue state bailouts.

Fred Hutch (Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center)is one of the best cancer centers in the world, and it is in Seattle.I have no idea how much it would cost to get assessed there. You might want to look it up on the web and get in contact with someone from there.

As evidenced by the fact that a completely unqualified, failure of a idiot, divisive, community organizing grifter, unprofessional, lying, unpresidential, race-baiting, hypocritical, lazy assideologue has been re-elected to serve a second term as the Executive in Chief of our formerly great nation. Sigh!

188 The White House on Wednesday blamed the devastation from Superstorm Sandy and disruptions from deep scheduled spending cuts for the surprise 0.1 percent drop in gross domestic product (GDP) in the fourth quarter of 2012. It was the first such contraction since early 2009 when the country was in the grips of the Great Recession.

Surprise, surprise surprise. It's all Bush's Sandy's fault!!!
