Carolyn McCarthy: Women Shouldn't Use Assault Rifles, They Should Use Rifles Instead

Non-assault rifles are easier for the dainty little delicate flowers Leon Panetta is sending to the front lines to use. Or something.

PIERS MORGAN: I have an interview coming up with two young women who wrote a piece in which they said they wanted the rights of the AR-15 weapon at home because they feared they would be attacked and they wanted a gun that would guarantee they would murder or would kill their attacker. How do you respond to that particular argument, which is they believe under their second amendment right they should be allowed an AR-15?

CAROLYN MCCARTHY: I will tell you, if you talk to professionals, hunters and certainly sportsmen, they’ll tell you that’s not the gun to use. A rifle is more accurate. It’s certainly easier for a woman to be able to do that.

You just can't make this stuff up, folks. I mean, we all know an AR-15 isn't an "assault rifle" within the real meaning of the term. Now super-genius Carolyn McCarthy does us one better and says it's not even a rifle?

Good to know.

Especially when a different branch of the government refers to select-fire ARs, which fit the textbook definition of "assault rifle", as a "personal defense weapon".

I guess DHS won't be issuing those scary black PDWs to the women.

98 Bernard Pollard has a bleak take on the future of the NFL.

The hard-hitting Baltimore Ravens safety told CBSSports.com recently that he doesn't believe the league will be in existence in 30 years because of rules changes instituted in an effort to make the game safer, and the chance a player might die on the field as players continue to get stronger and faster.

Well as a Jet's fan, that's good news i guess!

"On December 7, 1993, her husband, Dennis, was killed and her son, Kevin, severely injured on a Long Island Rail Road commuter train at the Merillon Avenue station, when spree killer, Colin Ferguson, opened fire on passengers.[4] Ferguson killed six and wounded 19 others.[5] McCarthy responded to the crime by launching a campaign for more stringent gun control that eventually propelled her to Congress in 1996 on the Democratic ticket. She defeated freshman Republican Dan Frisa by a large margin."

If someone on that train, like maybe her husband or son had a weapon, Colin Ferguson would be rotting in his grave right now. But instead, her husband is dead and her son is an invalid.

Her position on guns is infinitely more stupid than any statement she can ever make.

Of course there are instances of the other way around, but don't be blinded and assume its all the immigrants doing the sponging.

And of course, there are already laws limiting immigrants from getting welfare. I am going to guess those laws are not being implemented in some states (California, cough cough.)

Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at January 28, 2013 11:36 AM (f9c2L) It all depends on what you define as end-of-life care. If it is expanded to include everything in the last year of life, it's more like 70% of expenses.

I think it's with the flash suppressor. Since it apparently hides the flash so well, if it weren't on there, they'd know when you fired the first bullet (somehow they wouldn't just by, you know, the deafening bang of an AR in an enclosed space), and could run away.

Ahhh, okay, as usual I was unclear. There are seven documents being signed. He attached 14 files. There is no easy way to see which files are the originals and which ones are the corrected versions without opening each file. In other words, I'm having to spend the time to drill through each one to print and save only the corrected version. This isn't a situation where it's obvious from the first page which is which.

It's not a big deal, it's just a huge pain in the ass and is kind of impolite if it's done on purpose. I know this guy and it's not. It's also that I just spent over half an hour going through and getting rid of all the old versions because people kept whining about changes not being made that had been made four versions ago.

Mainly it's that I'm lazy.

GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba — Two Sept. 11 defendants delayed the start of their hearing Monday at Guantanamo when they refused to respond to questions from their judge in the case.

Defense lawyers didn't say what prompted the silent protest by self-proclaimed terrorist mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and one of five co-defendants at the military tribunal on the US base in Cuba. Mohammed refused to say whether he approved the hiring of another attorney for him. Fellow defendant Walid bin Attash refused to say why he wanted a military lawyer removed from his team

That 'murder their attacker' business bothers me more than just about any of the idiocy I've heard or read since the government started this anti-gun hysteria. Stephen King tried the same kind of word game in his recent opinion piece in the NYT, where the distinction between legitimate gun ownership and wanton acts of bloodshed were deliberately blurred, with the idea being to stigmatize gun ownership.

I read today Paul Ryan is promoting a 'subtle and prudent' GOP strategy for the duration of Obama's term. Ryan and other bright lights of the Republican leadership team still think we're dealing with conventional, traditional Democrats--you know who I mean: the Harry Truman, JFK kind of Democrats, the ones who aren't out to destroy the Republic or dispense with the Constitution. I'm sure they're around at state and local levels--I know a few--but at the national level? Blue dogs are dead. We're up against it with old-school commies now. Just to be clear guys, Tears Morgan has already played his next hand. They're going to try to connect the Full Auto ban to an AWB, and claim anyone who supports the Full Auto ban must also support an AWB or be logically inconsistent.

Let's go ahead and stipulate that there are a significant number of people who would like to keep a full auto ban, but not ban AWBs (which of course, don't exist...yadda yadda yadda.) I'm not sure it follows that this is inconsistent. The problem is of course that most of us don't even think about the Full Auto ban anymore. (Me, I'm just sorta ambivalent about it, I can theorize reasonable arguments in either direction I suppose, plus it's unlikely to be overturned anyway, so Meh.)
But since we haven't thought about it, we're admittedly unprepared to argue the point.
Now I think this is a red herring personally (akin to his "Tank" and "nuke" talk.) That's why we're blindsided (I mean who honestly thinks like this?! A crazy person that's who.) They've been saying stuff like that for a long time. People who argue with me are always taken aback when I say that, yes, the 2nd Amendment is supposed to protect my right to a howitzer (presuming I can afford one in the first place, of course).

They don't know how to respond, because to them it's just a talking point. They don't actually know anything about the issue, so they just repeat what they've heard.

The problem is that too many 2nd Amendment defenders do shy away from "No, I don't support keeping the full auto ban," because they assume that no one else does.

248 Today vocabulary lesson

A carbine (pron.: /ˈkɑrbiːn/ or /ˈkɑrbaɪn/[1]), from French carabine,[2] is a longarm similar to — but shorter than — a rifle or musket. Many carbines are shortened versions of full rifles, firing the same ammunition at a lower velocity due to a shorter barrel length.

The smaller size and lighter weight of carbines makes them easier to handle in close-quarter situations such as urban or jungle warfare,
or when deploying from military vehicles. The disadvantages of carbines
relative to rifles include inferior long-range accuracy and a shorter
effective range. Larger than a submachine gun, they are harder to maneuver in tight encounters where superior range and stopping power
at distance are not great considerations. Firing the same ammunition as
rifles gives carbines the advantage of standardization over those personal defense weapons (PDWs) that require proprietary cartridges.

Meh, any arguments I would have about keeping the full auto ban hinge on the idea that they're specialized weapons that require training to use effectively. Unlike say an AR-15, which my wife could pick up and teach herself to use pretty effectively with just a few hours a year skill upkeep. (Keep in mind BTW, "use effectively" and "be awesome at" are two different things.)

Even then "ban" is a bit much. "Require training before purchasing" might be a better way of stating it.

You know, I remember Bob Gates, you know, first thing he said to me, I
think maybe first week or two that I was there and we were meeting in
the Oval Office and he, obviously, been through seven presidents or
something. And he says, "Mr. President, one thing I can guarantee you is
that at this moment, somewhere, somehow, somebody in the federal

261 Even then "ban" is a bit much. "Require training before purchasing" might be a better way of stating it.

Nope, not even that.

Remember, the point is that responsible gun owners should not have any hurdles placed in their way by government. Period. End of paragraph.

Someone who never practices with their weapon, never cleans it, and never even considers the scenarios in which they might be forced to use it shouldn't even have handguns. However, we trust them to self-select (as I think you have done regarding a CCW).

There is no reason the same should not be true of full-auto weapons. We will trust responsible gun owners to maintain both the weapons and their proficiency with them. Anyone else is not a "responsible gun owner," and will a) not have a gun, b) not care about the law, or c) end up on the wrong side of legal and civil penalties.

She-Hulk doesn't really give the impression of being hulk-ish like the Bruce Banner version does when he turns. She-Hulk is just a really fit woman with all the right comic book proportions. Ofcourse, it would be weird to have a female hulk character looking all bloated and muscular like the male version. Kind of like the Super Mutant from Fallout 3 that joins your party as an NPC. That's supposed to be a female character according to the story lore.

290 Since the Evil Black Rifles are all mostly shorter than many well-known carbines, then it follows that they too are carbines, then, and not rifles?

Seems to me that the defining characteristic of a carbine is that it is a short-barrelled version of an existing rifle. Since the ARs are based on a design that short-barrelled from the outset, they are rifles, not carbines. Is this right?

I do own an actual carbine, one of these: http://www.angelfire.com/vt/milsurp/no5.html

302 17 Would-be rapist bleeds out after you defend yourself....murder.

What the fucking fuck.

====
There was a guy in the next neighborhood over form us when I was a kid in Maryland (early 90's) who got sent up for murder for killing a home invader. The homeowner heard a noise downstairs, went to investigate, found a burglar, burglar put hand in pocket like he was going for a weapon and said he was going to kill the guy, then rape and murder the guy's wife and kids. The homeowner shoved the burglar and ran upstairs. The burglar hit his head on the corner of the coffee table and broke his neck. Now, the guy may have lied about the threat, but there weren't any injuries on anyone other than the impact with the table; which kinda supports the homeowner's story. It was "disproportionate use of force", regardless of the threat, ergo murder. You were just supposed to assume unarmed, unless you could see a weapon, then you could only respond with a like weapon, after retreating as far as you could (for example, a 100lb woman facing The Rock armed with a knife could only use a knife of equal size). Dunno if that was actual law, but it was the standard being applied to self defense cases in Maryland at the time.

There was some discussion in our neighborhood after that (all special forces and other assorted spooks of one variety or another) over if such a thing happened in our block if it'd be reported or if everyone would help disappear the body.

In 2007 (I think? 2009 maybe?) Missouri specifically changed Castle Law to fix this problem.
Apparently people were afraid (or had actually been charged dunno which) about the excessive use of force rules in MO law.
Basically, if I break into your house with a knife, and you shoot me, you've used "excessive force."

Now, attempting to break in (or actually breaking in) triggers Castle Law protections and you are allowed to use any and all force up to and including lethal force.

318 For those looking for a rebuttal of the claim itself:

No, hunting rifles are not more accurate at home defense ranges. In fact, their long barrels make them more difficult to bring on target than a 16 inch AR and make you more vulnerable to having the weapon seized by an attacker.

In home defense situations, AR-15s are superior to shotguns and standard hunting rifles for smaller people, including women- especially when equipped with an eeeevil collapsible stock. They are lighter, lower recoil, and shorter, making them easier to control in tight indoor spaces and, thus, MORE ACCURATE.

Just be sure to use an appropriate home defense round like the Hornandy 55gr or 75gr TAP (and NOT the 62gr XM855 which is more prone to overpenetrate at home defense ranges).

Carolyn McCarthy gives goofy twats a bad name. She'd probably be having a bad case of the vapors when she learns that back in the day (Ft. Polk Louisiana, 1969) the M-16 (military version of the then AR-15) was referred to as the "Mattel Machine Gun".
Now I'll agree that if I had to pick some weasel house breaker off at 300 yards or so, I'd favor the old M-14--a real rifle. But if I was a delicate little flower waiting in my bedroom for an evil housebreaker to bang down the bedroom door and have his wicked way with me, well I might like to have an M-16 with a full automatic fire switch. I'd hose that sucker as he came through the door.
But if you're talking self defense in that situation Ms. McCarthy what the little flower really, really needs is a doubled barrel 12 guage shotgun loaded with buckshot. Of course if she can pump as fast as she fulls two triggers, a good pump action 12 guage would do the trick as well.
But suffice to say that it's fairly certaain that Ms. McCarthy (and Piers Morgan) will never pull their respective heads out of their asses enough to know what's going on.

The AR platform really is the perfect weapon platform for women who love to accessorize.

Tens of thousands of American women become familiarized with the select fire version of the AR each year while serving in our armed forces. Of course they're comfortable with it...and seek it out when deciding to purchase a weapon for themselves.

Liberal scrunts, that like to tell other women what they should think and do...those that have never served, and have never held an M16 in their hands....much less fired one....preach not from experience, but emotion....usually seasoned with a healthy dose of abject ignorance.
