John McCain: Of Course The GOP Is Going To Have To Accept "A Path To Citizenship"
UPDATE: Boehner Says House Will Have An Immigration Proposal Soon.

All the stories coming out in the last week or so about immigration shows that the narrative is being set up. Today, John McCain did his part to further the Democrat's agenda.

McCain said on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday that a group of bipartisan senators would be announcing “principles” on immigration reform this week, which he said was similar to a plan unveiled during President George W. Bush’s second term that ultimately failed.

...

McCain said there’s one big reason that his party has to loosen its opposition to providing a path to citizenship.

“Look at the last election,” he said. “We are losing dramatically the Hispanic vote, which we think should be ours for a variety of reasons, and we’ve got to understand that.”

President Obama is making his own immigration push this week with a speech in Las Vegas. McCain, one of the president’s harshest critics in Congress, said he thinks Obama’s proposals will be “helpful” to the effort in the Senate.

Ok John, let's look at the last election.

Quick question...if amnesty will lead to GOP victories, why are the Democrats so insistent on it? Seems to me if Republicans pushing for this are right, the Democrats would be raising holy hell to stop it.

The Washington Posts allegedly conservative blogger (who loved her some Mitt Romney) is touting Rubio's part in all of this.

On Wednesday he was pitching his plan on staunch conservative Mark Levin’s radio show. At one point (at the 4:30 mark) Rubio called the current system “de facto immigration,” meaning that by not enforcing current law we are already giving those here illegally a free pass. For Levin, this was compelling. (“We have de facto amnesty right now. When he said it, it set a light bulb off. Maybe I am a little slow. I said, ‘Well he’s right, we do have de facto amnesty.’ Which is exactly why Obama wants to really do nothing.”)

That's idiotic. Supposedly the reason we have to do this (aside from all the new "Republican" voters) is that it's unfair to make these people "live in the shadows".

Well, if we have "de facto amnesty" now, what difference will actual amnesty make to illegals? If the answer is none, what the hell is all the fuss about? Obviously there are tremendous benefits to legalizing people currently here illegally. What's missing is the upside to the country and people who have waited years and years to come here legally.

Oh and for all the talk of legal immigration reform as part of this, considering how backed up and slow the current system is, what's going to happen to wait times for legal immigrants while ICE is busy processing 10+ million illegals? Sure the illegals may not go to the head of the citizenship line but they will go to the head of the background check and processing of their new visas line. As always, the illegals will screw over the suckers who played by the rules.

This is just more of the double talk, fact free bs the pro-amnesty side is always putting out. We beat it back in 2007 with a liberal in the White House and Democrats in the Senate and House, we'll have to do it again. At least this time, we'll have the House as a base of sanity. Oh right, Boehner's for it too.

If amnesty does pass this time, will fiscal conservatives who opposed this type of immigration reform finally wise up and leave the GOP?

UPDATE:
My God, they want to kill the GOP. And by "they" I mean Republicans.

This was rhetorical, right?

(Has anyone even done any research on how many illegal aliens wish to be citizens, and how many just want to send money home?)

By the end of the year, the number of Hispanics will outnumber whites.
In addition, the report found that 80% of Hispanics in California are younger than 50, compared to only 73 percent of whites.
The report notes that "as many in the non-Hispanic white population retire, they will be replaced by a more diverse workforce.”

82 "So I was mistaken: our end goal IS in fact just to strut and preen and
feel sorry for ourselves about how put upon we are, and not actually try
to change the country for the better."

Name me one currently elected member of the GOP that has offered a plan or legislation to change the country for the better? The Ryan plan if implemented would play around the edges at best, it by no means sets the government on a course to fiscal sanity, and this plan was DOA because of it's extremism. So tell me what exactly is the current GOP doing to stop leftism now?

85 Unless you have some plan to instantly convert every
Republican party member to the Conservative Party (and if that's the
case, what was the f***ing point?), please tell me how this New Party
can ever win an election. Please tell me you've at least thought of that
little trifling detail.

Posted by: Paul at January 27, 2013 12:37 PM (g4Saz)

I see you missed the entire part where I conceded that the GOP needs to be reformed from within. Because, you know, I conceded that. What with the concession that it must be done and all. Mind you I don't think it will work, but hey might as well trying a stupid and futile gesture.

As far as that trifling detail, I have though very long and very hard about the fact that the majority of my fellow citizens have rejected, in near totality, the foundations of my political beliefs. I refer not only to the FSA but also to many Republicans both within and without the power structure of the GOP, be it local or national. A majority of this country simply does not want to accept that Math wins. They don't. I have had multitudinous conversations with those who proclaim to be hard core conservatives who suddenly balk at any type of reforms to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Let's not even get into discussing agriculture subsidies and the like. Hell, bring up the flat tax and call for the elimination of the mortgage interest deduction and you'd think I'd just killed someone's child in front of them.

My conclusion? The majority of this country wants Socialism, be it hardcore or Socialistlite. What practical tips do I have to stop it? Fuck if I know.

You are correct. If you have 49% of the vote, you can't get anything done. Right now I would guess that conservative positions have, maybe, maybe 20-25% of the vote. I do not see how to increase that when a majority of the public thinks conservatives are lying about the doom that Math is going to bring.

All that being said, you still have not addressed my point. The national GOP is actively working against my core beliefs. Why the hell would I work with them to do that? Why? The national GOP is not acting like the opposition. Until such time as they do, why should I support that?

By the way, all of that's the cheery version of what I actually think.

The brilliance of the Constitution was that the founders knew we would eventually get MORON politicians who were narcissitic egomaniacal and thought they knew better how to run the country BUT WAIT the Constitution enumerates only the things you can do and say explicity what you cannot do. Some form of amnesty is going to happen no matter what, so it pays to try and shape it in a conservative mold as opposed to the liberal free-for-all that the JEF wants.

It's already a popular idea to grant some form concession to those already here while making a concerted effort to tighten the borders. Now, concerning those already here, democrats want to give them citizenship. This can't be allowed.

Conservatives need to make the case (which should be easy) that current illegals should be granted permanent resident (PR) status, be subject to all taxes and regulations, but not entitled to citizenship. As is already popular, citizenship is given to those already in line as spots open up, and new permanent residents will be at the back of the line.

The legislation should include methods to make it easy to deport PRs who violate the law. PRs would need to pay taxes (including Social Security) but would not be entitled to any benefits. PRs would need to pay for the JEF's healthcare, and if they can't do it individually, their home country would be charged.

Do this right and it would help the situation.

4) All federal government forms, websites and broadcast media shall be distributed exclusively in English.

Unless you define "big business" differently than financial types do, I think you're full of shit. Sure, Big Ag has been known to use illegals but they know it's illegal and have been busted for it.

Construction on large projects is always union--no illegals and no cheap labor there. No, I think illegals are hired by exactly who we see hiring them every day as domestics, outdoor labor and to pick things from the ground.

Big business is not looking for workers, they're looking for customers.

In the 90s the libertarian movement switched from primarily opposing the growth of government to primarily focusing on the War on Drugs.

The idea was that they could get the potheads on board with the general slate of libertarian ideas. It failed....cataclysmically. What happened instead is that leftist pothead ideas found a home in the libertarian movement.

So now one can find "libertarians" who want draconian laws against businesses and gun ownership.

Whereas (hopefully) most of the GOP conference genuinely doesn't want amnesty to pass. 242 A couple of points. If crossing a desert on foot with only the water you can carry is easier than the legal process of immigration, then our immigration process is flawed. Also, as someone who has several friends going through the immigration process (or members of their family), the current process is extremely expensive for most immigrants. Illegal immigrants make up the bulk of our farm labor, how are they supposed to afford the proper process and lawyers?

Also, among mexican-american citizens, immigration is not a vote getting issue. What is an issue, is being treated like a criminal every time you have an interaction with law enforcement. When mexican-american voters see Republicans voting for increased enforcement, they know that in reality that means increased harassment of themselves. Nothing turns off a voter to voting for you when you propose pushing more hassle on them. I'm blonde haired and blue eyed, and do a fair amount of work in Mexico and the SouthWest. I have a coworker I travel with that is of Mexican decent of about 4 generations ago. I get no hassles and just a wave through at every random border check. He gets the 9th degree about his citizenship. Why, because he has darker skin. I hate the racist accusations from the left, but in reality immigration enforcement in the South West is done on the basis of skin color.

When exaclty was it decided that the US was responsible for taking in Mexcios surplus population?

How could it possibly be a net postive to change our immigration policy from one where the educated and skilled of europe would be disfavored and replaced with poorly educated and low skilled of Mexico and South America as it was in 1965?

I'm not going the blanket condemnation yet because no matter what anyone says, politicians will be politicians.

I have a strange feeling that the reason Boehner was re-affirmed as speaker is because no one else really wanted the job in this national climate.

Being speaker right now is a political career killer. We need to finally wise up and, in some way, enact term limits to the congress.

As usual, the Republicans gave away their hard won positions that they hold now in exchange for future concessions from the Democrats, and those future concessions never came to pass.

Thanks to the huge flood of cheep labor most guys make the same pay they did in the early nineties. What I mean when I say flood is on a one hundred man crew three were english speaking. I and two foreman. With the exception of the two foreman I have gone days without hearing english spoken at work. I'm learning spanish not by choice but by immersion.
Sure the employer is supposed to verify that their employees are legal, but they don't. Bye the bye, the savings in labor costs does not get passed on to the customer. My greatest problem though is that most of these guys really don't like Americans. Lots of them hate us. They don't have a specific reason but I think it mostly is about race.
Pass amnesty don't pass amnesty what the politicians apparently don't realize or ignore is that if they don't stop the flood the problem will only get worse.
Right now in this economic environment for every illegal here working is one more unemployed citizen. One more person getting displaced. Don't lay that they do the work americans won't do bullshit one me. If the pay is right someone will do it.

Its not the fact that its hispanic community. Black communities are like that too.Its the fact that its a Democrat constiuency community. The whole point of the Dickshitcrats is to get you dependent.Promise you a better life but never fully deliver to enable your independence. That way they can keep dependent on government assistance and get you to keep voting for them under the fear that the other side is gonna take away the scraps they threw at you and with the promise of maybe a little more next time. But they never really want to give everything they promise just enough to get you to the polls and keep you dependent.Meanwhile the slums and ghettos go on and on and Moochelle The Hut keeps feeding her gaping maw pound after pound of lobster flesh.

In 2006 W and McCain and the RINOs and the WSJ crowd ran the party off the rails with a completely unnecessary and irrational push for Amnesty
We lost the house and W fell down a rabbit hole, curled into a ball and the
Republican Party started bleeding and it hasn't stopped since.
The end result was Obamacare and a mortally wounded conservative movement.

Is there a lot of liberty breaking out in latin america? Hell, even El Salvador is a socialist shithole run by elites on one end and US funded gangs on the other. But, hey, don't take my word for it. Go read some La Raza. If you understand spoken Spanish (as I do) tune in to some Mexican radio, you know the ones that broadcast from Mexico with wattage the FCC can never touch.

443 "Quick question...if amnesty will lead to GOP victories, why are the Democrats so insistent on it? Seems to me if Republicans pushing for this are right, the Democrats would be raising holy hell to stop it."

If Democrats manage to take the credit, they win and it's over. That's why.

"Well, if we have "de facto amnesty" now, what difference will actual amnesty make to illegals?"

We have de fact citizenship right now. 1 male + 1 female = 1 citizen (whom Leftists can easily demagogue* against us because we keep calling them names and so forth). Repeat as often as you wish. See how that works? (And why we need to think this through?)

*By the way, I suggest you watch PBS from time to time (well, not really). The demagoguery has already begun. (A Class Apart, or whatever.) And who knows what's going on in the public schools.

"Oh and for all the talk of legal immigration reform as part of this, considering how backed up and slow the current system is, what's going to happen to wait times for legal immigrants while ICE is busy processing 10+ million illegals?"

Further immigration, whether legal or otherwise needs to stop until 1. the latest batch of immigrants has become properly assimilated and 2. the economy stops sucking balls. Thinking. It's a real thing.

"As always, the illegals will screw over the suckers who played by the rules."

Those who play by the rules are suckers. Why do you think we always lose?

"If amnesty does pass this time, will fiscal conservatives who opposed this type of immigration reform finally wise up and leave the GOP?"

And what good would that do?

Later.

The line of ancestors ready and willing to dump on us is longer than that. I have begun to understand how the old European aristocracies accumulated power, coalesced it, grew it, and eventually came up with the divine right of kings as a basis for government. We are seeing it here and now being done more efficiently than ever done before. the clincher will be when Boner has one of his offspring marry into the Obama clan to consolidate power.

The path to reverse this course, if at all possible, will be far worse than any ever seen before. I weep for my children and grand-children who, in all likelihood, will effectively be serfs of a decadent ruling class.

And,

"You keep using that phrase, 'save the country from Socialism'. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Opposition to the Democrats means OPPOSING them. Not weakly protesting and then rubber-stamping their initiatives.

Saving the country from Socialism means CUTTING, or at least seriously proposing to cut, Socialist programs. How much of that do you see from the current Beltway GOP mandarins?

454 I apologize for my ungrammatical sentence in my previous posting. I was in the process of editing it when I hit "post" by mistake.

As many of you know, I live in Northern CA. specifically in Pelosi's district. I have been acutely aware of the efforts of La Raza to infiltrate the educational system here in CA. They have been largely successful. Classes are being taught in Spanish. That is troubling enough. WHAT is being taught is troubling tenfold. I am a gringo, a white guy. I look like a typical bubba, but I understand Spanish, though I do not always speak it with the proper dialect. I hear what is said on the radio, in the classrooms, in the grocery stores, on the streets, in the restaurants. And just as Israel has its problems with blood libel, there is such a stream of libel against the USA, against gringos in particular, that it would curl your hair if you could understand it. It used to bother me a lot less, but now it is mainstream. Obama, in a campaign speech to La Raza before he was elected even had the unmitigated temerity to refer to us as "the enemy".

None of this will end well.

The two things we agreed in the Constitution to pay them to do, and they aren't doing it.

I think at this point we start throwing back in the faces of every single liberal that screams about "amnesty" that the only reason this is a problem is that the GOVERNMENT failed, the GOVERNMENT screwed up, the GOVERNMENT was incompetent, and the GOVERNMENT ruined it for everyone else.

And that therefore their whining about the "need" for amnesty is proof that the government is utterly and completely incompetent.

No wonder they just hop the border...because I considered it, too. Fly the wife of 7 years home on tourist visa and fix that shit in America.

GOP: stop worrying about the messicans. You are already losing the Honey Boo Boo voter, what's the problem with the messicans who actually are willing to work. We just need to actually ask for the votes and explain that we are better for the country.

464 what does this have to do with fiscal conservatism?

465 In his second term of office Ronald Reagan gave millions of illegals amnesty. Bush Sr. got a smaller percentage of the Hispanic vote then Reagan despite the fact that Republicans had JUST GRANTED AMNESTY to all of those illegals. There is no reason to believe that bending over backwards to accomodate people here illegally will garner Hispanic votes for the Republican party.
