As Promised, Obama Energy Policy Bankrupts New Coal Plant

From Vic in the morning thread comes this piece:

“Chase Power … has opted to suspend efforts to further permit the facility and is seeking alternative investors as part of a plan of dissolution for the parent company,” Chase CEO Dave Freysinger told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

Freysinger made it very clear who was responsible for the projects death. “The (Las Brisas Energy Center) is a victim of EPA’s concerted effort to stifle solid-fuel energy facilities in the U.S., including EPA’s carbon-permitting requirements and EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for new power plants,” he said.

...

“These costly rules exceeded the bounds of EPA authority, incur tremendous costs, and produce no real benefits related to climate change,” Freysinger commented

As a reminder, the executive branch, Obama's EPA, took these actions unilaterally after congress wouldn't cut the economy's throat by passing cap & trade. Who could have possibly predicted the outcome of such a policy?

TFG, that's who.

The only thing I've said with respect to coal, I haven't been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a (sic) ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.

It's just that it will bankrupt them.

And bankrupt them it did. Well done, low-info voters.

What he is saying here is that he is opposed to coal because he is a left winger, not because of what it will do to the enviornment because one day technology might be able to burn it clean. So this dumbass mother fucker is opposed to a fucking energy source because of his politics.

What a fucking idiot, too bad someone doesn't find a way to get Democrats to oppose fire, so they can fucking freeze to death every winter.

5 I never saw that full quote in print before. I always figuring his point was that he wanted to bankrupt coal plants because he thought they were unclean.

This fuck literally says "I oppose it ideologically, as opposed to enviornmentally, because if one day technology enables people to burn it clean i will be in a position to still oppose it."

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS FUCK WAS REELECTED?

7 Good main blog post.

Indeed, the Obama administration has made it crystal clear they want coal power eliminated. Period. And sure enough we can see the results. This plant bankruptcy (and there will be many others; keep in mind Obama and his EPA have 4 more years) not only will cost a lot of high-paying jobs it radically will increase utilities bills for those in the affected area.

Once you get out of the coffee klatches and sewing circles of the chattering classes the brutal reality is that elections have very severe consequences.

They have plans all right. They just involve winning elections. That's it, thats all they give a shit about. Thats why they dont give a shit about entitlement reform, budgets, or governing once they win. Their entire "governing" philosophy revolves around winning elections, everything else is secondary.

For example, Chicago....ok stop laughing. That city is bankrupt, falling apart, and a violent cesspool people are fleeing from in droves. Do you think the machine politicians running for office are running to "solve problems"? fuck No they are running for office to be apart of the machine, to have their hand in the till. They could give two shits about what happens once they win. Fuck it go look at the Kos clowns, they openly admit all else is secondary for a politician other than winning the next election. Lying, vote fraud, counting on the votes of idiots, and betraying their ideology is all ok, as long as they win. They fucking admit it. Solving problems....haha dont make me laugh. I bet Harry Reid laughed when Paul Ryan and the Republicans submitted their budget. I am positive Obama did.

Focus on the 2014 election is also imperative. It’s going to be like
2010, but this time around we need to shake up the GOP machine that
tries to orchestrate away too much of the will of constitutional conservatives who don’t give a hoot how they do it in DC. DC is out of touch, obviously. Voices on the right like Mark Levin, Rush, and the
writers here at Breitbart have come out strongly against the “go along

44 Why this wasnt on adds in PA and WVA every day is beyond me.

Because the GOP really didn't want to win. They didn't want to make our historic first black president a one-termer.

It has turned out to be a great strategy -- to remain a powerless minority for the foreseeable future.

123 Citing a General Service Administration (GSA) request for proposal (RFP), Steve McGough of RadioViceOnline.com reports that DHS is asking for the 7,000 “select-fire” firearms because they are “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.” The term select-fire means the weapon can be both semi-automatic and automatic. Civilians are prohibited from obtaining these kinds of weapons.

The RFP describes the firearm as “Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) – 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required.” Additionally, DHS is asking for 30 round magazines that “have a capacity to hold thirty (30) 5.56x45mm NATO rounds.”

If you delve into the logic of the left, it's easy to see why they want to destroy the coal industry. For them, coal is "dirty" because it releases evil "carbon" into the atmosphere in the form of CO2. And CO2 is bad because: Global Warming!

Many of the objectives of the left can be understood when you realize their utter and total belief in anthropogenic global warming.

Why the push for green energy? Because coal has to go away since it promotes global warming.

The irony is that as the world slowly opens it's eyes to the scam that is global warming, Obama and the left in the USA are still embracing it and formulating policy around this belief. And it is, at this point, simply a belief system that fells good to them.

Actually it is deeper than that. They really are anti-human. Like Andy (?) posted the other day, scratch a greenie, get a Malthusian.

Here's your answer. "Hey, I've got a hotdog stand that sells hotdogs that increase your johnson size by 50%. Wanna invest? Oh btw, the EPA is gonna need 3 billion up front."

Idiots all.

No, the "happy warrior" they want is a myth of Reagan, that Reagan was so effective because he was so cheerful compared to the Dems.

The real Reagan was more like you described, the "happy" part came from the joy of gutting the Dems like a fish.

And that type of "happy" gives people like RS the vapors. No, they want happy like, "Just walking along, singing a song, la de da da."

181 So Kucinich is like "Why doesn't Wall Street invest in nuclear? Nuclear is good right?"

so let's review... people like Kucinich create 10 million roadblocks and hurdles for starting up a nuclear power plant, along with creating a nationwide fear campaign that having a nuclear power plant within 100 miles of your home means that you are going to have children with 14 toes... all of this means that any private investment in nuclear power will (a) have a very very long horizon on when returns may be expected, and (b) be demonized by liberal pressure groups as being "pro-radiation" and "pro-death".

And then Kucinich wonders why the private sector doesn't do more to support nuclear power, twisting conservatives' arguments against us, with snide claims like "if it's SO GREAT, why doesn't that magic free market that you all SO LOVE provide all the money? HUH??? It must be that nuclear power SUCKS and the only reason you support it is because you're an ideological right-wing pro-corporate anti-planet environment-hating wingnut!!!!!!"

They scoff at "intolerant, religious wing nuts who bitterly cling to their Bibles" while they themselves refuse to acknowledge that the scientific basis for Darwinism is flawed (violates the second law of thermodynamics), and the "science" of AGW is fraudulent. They gave rejected the truth and God for a pseudoscience that makes them feel better when they shop with reusable grocery bags, recycle, and drive their smug mobiles. I've been thinking about this, too. The problem is that community organizing is somewhat antithetical to a conservative mindset. Conservatives want smaller government and want it out of their lives. Community organizers basically create victim groups that demand the government give them something for being wronged.

We need a better organized, national level TEA Party-like organization that has the power for activism, and that can promote good political candidates.

But that is part of the problem that I think we are suffering from - we are expecting a leader to come lead and save us from creeping galloping socialism, when it ought to be the other way around - we ought to be the ones putting our choice of leader up front. I think part of the reason why the 2012 primaries turned into a 3-ring circus was because, in reality, NOBODY liked ANY of the candidates to a deep, sincere degree. Compare that to the Cult of Obama.

Yes, that's a good first step. It would be nice if there were some sort of database on conservative-friendly businesses.

Posted by: chemjeff at January 27, 2013 11:18 AM (BBWjt)

250 214 @205 Hmmm. The best type of conservative community organizer would stir the FSA up by attacking union heads as people who were getting more than their "fair share" and were therefore keeping the FSA from getting even MORE free stuff.

Yes, and continuously beat the drum about all the filthy, stinking rich Democrats in government that have gotten rich through their connections with big banks and predatory lending (Mr. Maxine Waters), preventing their employees from unionizing (Mr. Nancy Pelosi), etc., etc.

They could reveal all the Democrat politicians and their family members and friends who got chunks of stimulus money, sit on boards of big businesses, receive pork and special exemptions from regulation, kickbacks, cronyism, insider trading etc. Shine a light on all the corruption and malfeasance that is occurring in the Democrat party and robbing their constituents of Obama Bucks because some of his sweet stash is lining the pockets of Harry Reid, the Clintons, Al Gore etc. The conservative community organizer can start plastering pictures of the palatial estates and vacation properties of Democrats all over bus stops, billboards, tv commercials etc. Gin up class warfare between the Democrat politicians and their entitled mooching voters. Pictures of John Kerry's yacht, luxury vehicles, Theresa in her designer clothes sipping Crystal champagne. If politicians are ostensibly "working" for the people who got them elected, why shouldn't those voters be entitled to some of that swag too? Why should welfare queens be content to live in housing projects when people like the Pelosis, Kerrys, Bidens, Clintons etc. enjoy much nicer digs? I think fomenting some class envy and division amongst the Democrats and their low information voters is an excellent idea!

277 Nuclear Energy in Iran takes a step backward ...

An explosion deep within Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility has destroyed much of the installation, trapped about 240 personnel deep underground, according to a former intelligence officer of the Islamic regime, and reported by Reza Kahlili on Thursday.

The previously secret nuclear site has become a center for Iran’s nuclear activity because of the 2,700 centrifuges enriching uranium to the 20-percent level. A further enrichment to weapons grade would take only weeks, experts say.

They overwhelming voted for obama. There are three coal power plants in Apache county, supplied by Navajo coal.On an interesting side there are 15 counties in AZ. All of the AZ reservation residents voted for obama by large margins. So far only two Sheriffs have said they will not enforce the obama gun confiscation. None of the Democrat sheriffs who cover the reservations have spoken out yet.So is it obama's plan to disarm the Indians and will theseDemocrat Sheriffs help in the confiscation? Fun to watch.

280 This guy is ten time worse than Carter, maybe a hundred.

Posted by: sTevo at January 27, 2013 01:54 PM (VMcEw)

281 This is an interesting problem. There are several new technologies that provide clean gas and clean liquid fuel from coal. many are quite clean. Some can operate with very little water. So what gives here.

I believe price is a big factor. Natural Gas, right now is cleaner than coal and much much cheaper. It makes sense for a utility to switch from an older coal plant to a new Nat gas plant. EPA regulations aside, price is the big factor....U.S. coal demand will contract by 120 million tons in 2012, with fuel
switching in the first half of the year accounting for roughly 100
million tons in lost consumption.

The price of Nat Gas goes up and down, so it is not always cheaper. But, WV coal is so expensive, it is dropping in volume.

282 Posted by: Keating Willcox at January 27, 2013 02:15 PM (YZxuS)

It's not a matter of cost or available technology. It's a matter of controlling the general population.

Posted by: Bill H at January 27, 2013 04:44 PM (3sZO1)

283 Now, I fully concur that Obama's carrying the enviroloonies' water when it comes to his 'war on coal'.

But...if you're a power utility you'd rather not build coal plants anyway.

Gas comes in through a pipe and it burns in pretty much any kind of equipment you'd care to burn it in.

Coal needs a rail spur (which implies a railroad), it has to be cleaned and pulverized and you still don't have as much flexiblity in the actual generating unit design as you do with gas.

So gas is going to be the preferred fuel as long as a utility can count on a reliable source at a competitive cost.

Mind you, we know that the Browners and the Holdrens and other such scum would love to cripple fossil fuels entirely, but the unicorn-fart contingent hasn't won yet.
