Gun Show Sponsor Feeds Crocodile, Gets Eaten First

Reed Exhibitions, the organizer of the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, PA, thought it would be a good idea to be all sensitive and caring by banning Evil Black Rifles™ from this year's show, which was scheduled for Feb. 2-10.

This decision proved highly unpopular with the show's exhibitors, who began cancelling in droves.

So many canceled, in fact, that Reed Exhibitions has now postponed the show with this weaselly statement on their website (emphasis added):

Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone, for now, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show given the controversy surrounding its decision to limit the sale or display of modern sporting rifles (also called ARs) at the event. The show was scheduled to take place February 2-10 in Harrisburg, PA.

“Our original decision not to include certain products in the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show this year was made in order to preserve the event’s historical focus on the hunting and fishing traditions enjoyed by American families,” said Chet Burchett, Reed Exhibitions President for the Americas. “In the current climate, we felt that the presence of MSRs would distract from the theme of hunting and fishing, disrupting the broader experience of our guests. This was intended simply as a product decision, of the type event organizers need to make every day.

“It has become very clear to us after speaking with our customers that the event could not be held because the atmosphere of this year’s show would not be conducive to an event that is designed to provide family enjoyment. It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits showcasing products and services for those interested in hunting and fishing.

“ESS has long been proud to participate in the preservation and promotion of hunting and fishing traditions, and we hope that as the national debate clarifies, we will have an opportunity to consider rescheduling the event when the time is right to focus on the themes it celebrates.”

Ummm, no, asshat. Everyone even tangentially involved in the shooting sports is "directly affected" by the anti-second amendment agenda of the left, and we're united in opposition to it. As evidence that things are different this time around, note that the list of sponsors who told Reed Exhibitions to get bent includes companies like Ruger, who went along with the Clinton-era "assault weapons" ban and have obviously realized the error of their ways.

I'd encourage everyone to seek out and do business with the vendors on the list of boycotters and also to continue giving the finger to Reed Exhibitions and anyone else who makes the mistake of trying to divide and conquer on the second amendment.

Update - Hollowpoint puts us some irony in the comments:

What's funny is that there likely wouldn't have been many Evil Black Rifles for sale anyways- they're all sold out.

Her new measure will ban the sale of about 150 types of firearms, including some rifles and handguns, as well as the sale of high-capacity magazines, according to USA Today.

The bill will exempt firearms used for hunting and will grandfather in guns and magazines owned before the law’s potential enactment. However, the grandfathered weapons will be logged in a national registry.

Truman I don't quite agree yet, and you'll note I am less than thrilled with the GOP.

I suspect the GOP thought they had earned some deference and respect from the NEA for being generous to schools during Bush II, and are shocked that the lockstep donk trap has finally sprung.

The GOP won't cave on guns but the NE RiNO gang and I welcome that so long as it doesn't give them the win.

Ideally the interior donks remaining piss off the locals enough that we further regionalize for when the split happens.

Red State donks need to be purged and the voters need to be forced to acknowledge regional realities.

Let the NE GOP be blue light....

I welcome it to force the Donks in the middle to run true Don lites or fuel the push for divorce.

Sorry for the shouting, but it just really pisses me off when I see the left doing "preparation of the battlefield" by trying (and succeeding, thank you MFM c*cksuckers) to define the vocabulary of the debate. We let them get away with that sh*t with abortion, letting them define it in terms of "women's health" and now anybody who is against infanticide apparently wants women to die of cervical cancer.

So every time I hear one of these lefty types start talking about "hunting" I can't stifle the urge to shout "IT'S NOT ABOUT HUNTING YOU ASSHOLE!"

And our politicians should do the same, in just those words.

111 Don't be hating on hunters, just remind them that scoped rifles will be high on the banning list the second the government fears any backlash from honest citizens. Just like the Sierra club works against horse riders the gun grabbers would quickly turn to "if you need a scope, you should wait for a closer shot ...." if they succeed in banning high magazine capacity guns.

And I may be wrong but I suspect most people have EBRs primarily because they want to equally armed if some drug gang mistakes their house for a target and that is an absolutely legitimate reason. ARs especially are very light caliber for hunting anything other than varmints.

So what do you call a knee jerk response to media pressure? Let me clarify it's either shrewd politiking where you are setting yourself up as the last to be killed (because they will come for it all eventually) in which case you are siding with the enemy. Or you are being an irrational emotional bitch. Which is it, traitor or bitch?

Let me brake it down for you in just in case you are too STUPID to realize why your reasoning is bullshit. AR style rifles are prized by hunters, not because they are great hunting weapons but because they are great practice weapons. They shoot *like* a high powered hunting rifle like a 7mm Rem Mag, or a .270 win but.

When I shoot my hunting rifle by the end of my second box of shells

1. I've shot through enough cash to take a family of four to dinner at a nice place.
2. My shoulder will be bruised for a week.

ARs are consummate practice range guns for keeping and improving your shooting discipline. Banning ARs beyond thumbing your nose at dedicated target shooters is also thumbing your nose at every F*king hunter who target shoots for practice, pretending that isn't an important part of the sport.

So you get three choices. Traitor, cowardly bitch, or too stupid to understand your own damn sport. Which the fuck is it asshole?

Correct. Manchin is already catching hell for having suggested he might be open to considering a ban. He's been walking it back since.

Feinstein's bill isn't going anywhere. She's among the leading anti-gun assholes in the Senate and pushes for this kind of shit all the time.

This is all Kabuki Theater for the sake of her liberal constituents back home, and she knows it. Otherwise she wouldn't have gone Full Retard with the overreach.

Also, Diane Feinstein is very, very corrupt fossil. Belongs In a Jail Cell level corrupt.

There is a lot of money tied to this type of show and for so many vendors to put their principles ahead of their pockets (including all the bowhunting vendors, taxidermists, outfitters, etc.) is more impressive than you realize. Not only did this boycott make news but I guarantee you that is was a very expensive kick to the nads for Reed----building rental, advertising, loss of gate (admission) dollars, and worst of all, bad will now instilled in their target audience---I bet you anything that they will try to sell this show to another exhibition company now. Amen. How do they fail to understand that the same argument used against "assault weapons" will be used against them. "When the 2nd Amendment was written, people had to hunt for food, the founders couldn't imagine supermarkets full to the brim with factory farmed meat."

I think they take that position because their egos will not allow themselves to accept the conflict between responsible American firearm ownership and voting for the JEF. Their subconscious knows that if they accept that they adhere to a single contradiction, an entire belief system consistent of conflicting progressive values will collapse in a matter of days, sundering a significant aspect of their identity.

Most American gun owners consider themselves shooters, and not hunters. The AR-15 is America's most popular rifle NOT because it is good for killin ' Bambi.

The Fudds do not run the show anymore, and trying to appeal to the Fudds will only get you tied to the Shooter's collective back bumper and dragged for 20 miles.

234 I have to admit I was suprised at the boycott list--the largeness, the quickness with which the numbers came about--but upon a moment's reflection think I have the root cause--

It is a sign that, either intuitively or explicitly, that the only thing expected from the Left is an attempt at complete domination, and that only firm action will prevent. That in other words, it's more than just about modern sporting rifles (because an assault rifle is auto), and it's more than just about other potential gun bans. In this sense it is much like the secession petitions--"you can have the media and the schools call your shots, and you can demonize us, but you can't make us go happily along with it. Up yours."

241 The Episcopalians at the National Cathedral tend to be more interested in the Democratic party platform than in Christianity per se.

---

There's a reason there has nearly been a split in the Episcopalian church in the US, thanks to people like Presiding Bishop Schiori et all deciding they want to give the finger to the international church and go ahead with whatever liberal bullshit they want to do.

243 Don't ever believe that the Feinstein bill will go nowhere. It will hide like a cancer ready to grow again. One answer has been displayed: the boycott. Even Hannity said he is not in favor of boycotts, but this proves their worth. If there is even the slightest move by any person or business, notify them post haste they have lost your business. A squirmy answer deserves boycott. The support of someone in support of loss of liberty deserves boycott. Backing a candidate or incumbent in favor of loss of liberty deserves boycott. Always, make sure you tell them. Crunch their websites and let them know they will pay.

244 Do you every sit back, like I do, and truly marvel at the sheer number of attempts by the gov't to ursurp our rights that have been stopped by the 1A, 2A, 4A, and 5A?

Even though the gov't has not been granted the authority to fuck with our speech, religion, guns, etc, it took the bill of rights to enable the courts to protect - in some small way - our rights.

Over the past 200 years, just think of the total number of times the government has tried to infringe on our rights. It's mind-boggling. I wish some of our lib 'friends' would dwell on this for a while..it's might lead to an ah-ha moment for the few that aren't on their knees sucking gov't pole.

Ben Franklin said it best, to wit: "We must all hang together, or we will certainly hang seperately". or some such thing
Old school shooters who only have a SxS for trap and skeet, black powder hunters, SASS fans, you absolutely have to stand with your more modern compatriots on this. I hear at my gun club men saying no one needs x number of rounds to do y. Or we should tighten up background checks, not realizing that closing the "gunshow loop-hole" is just a euphemism for banning private sales and transfers of private property.
Not one more concession. Period.
Each time those who claim to value freedom and our Constitution give in on their principles, even a little, makes it tougher ground to stand on next time.
And there will be a next time. We all know that the end game is an America that is dis-armed and complacent, where government has the monopoly on force, and government functionaries can act with impunity.
This is why the "Fudds" need to either step or step out of the way, but in no manner concede.

I doubt it. Because they would then have to admit that rights are not granted by government, but are preexisting and part of our God-given birthright (or, if you prefer not to mention God, then our birthright as human beings). To admit government limitation in one area (the BoR) is to open the door to limit the government in other areas, and your typical Obama-felching lib cannot agree to that.

247 Ya'll could probably lay off the Fudd shit too . We've been fighting this fight for , in my case almost forty yrs .
Or I could refer to all the tacticool newbie gun people as wannabe mall ninjas .

That should make Feinstein and Schumer just giddy .

243-Same thing with the Lutherans. It's all in Gramsci's plan.
Also,
some American Southern Baptists went to Germany to meet German Baptists
and were deeply offended that their hosts were drinking beer. But when
the Southern Baptists went to England to meet the English Baptists the
English Baptists were deeply offended that their guests wore make-up.
Seriously, this happened.

awkward davies: Ya'll could probably lay off the Fudd shit too .

A Fudd is a hunter who thinks nothing of throwing shooters to the anti-gun bigots in hopes that they will be eaten last.

Once in a while, a Fudd like Jim Zumbo puts his own boot in his ass, and needs to be corrected.

Most hunters these days are not Fudds. They understand that throwing shooters to the wolves will end with restrictions similar to Germany, where the gun is locked up at the club when not hunting, and a "hunt" consists of an official government hunter leading you up to a specific animal and saying, "Ja, you must shoot that one."

251 Because the narrative seems to be changing from "gun control" to "gun safety", now is the time to be concerned about the hearing of target shooters. These individuals, especially the children, would welcome the substantial health benefit that freeing surpressors from oppressive taxes and regulation would have on their long term hearing.

253 Awkward davies,

I've used Mall Ninja here as a gentle epithet too AD.

I own a pump rifle in .357, 4 .38cal open top colt replicas, 2 ARs, 3 bolt rifles a pump shotgun, and double barrel currently.

Over the last year I have sold off my through a gunsmith with a 3 semi auto pistols, and I have a SKS Sporter D I am getting rid of before all this hoopla.

Prior to moving to Indiana as the reign of our glorious king was just dawning I owned the pump rifle, double barrel, the 4 colts, and 2 bolt guns.

I am not "mall ninja" quite the contrary my shooting preferences are SASS and hunting/target shooting.

The point of warning Fudd is last time in a desperate attempt to find "the middle" he cut a deal with the democrats and allowed his political action groups and trade vendors to side with the gunban.

I'm ex-infantry I am not saying that to put on airs I just want to lend you my personal perspective on "semi-auto rifles."

Grandpa raised me such that you don't really need a pistol or a semi-auto rifle until the govt tries taking them away. He was saying this in the 70s. How much has happened since the 70s on this front?

He watched as they took away the private citizens ability to own auto guns and self-defense sawn off shotguns.

I first got out of the army I could show off some pretty mean hip shooting with 2*4s against lumber. I grew out of that, but my shooting never hurt anyone, and I broke no laws and maintained a safety margin. We "cave" and get better mental health screening without going overboard as many have long wanted. "Okay" but if the hunters uber alles guys screw even the mall ninjas who are at times as unfun to have around us as a crazy uncle and leave my wheel guns and sass gear alone I am going to burn them this time.

They are not screwing us all over again.

254 254 One-Eyed jack,

Pretty much it I think. AD you as described are not a Fudd, and I get the feeling your array and view is closer to mine than a mall ninja or true "Fudd."

I know my tone and use of language is hurtful, that is to get their attention and encourage others to do the same.

If I were to guess and not casting aspersions you are primarily a hunter or value that activity highly.

So do I, but I will happily give it up to get even.

Sorry if you get hurt too but we all stand together or we all go down together, no more peeling the onion by the Donkey Princess.

255 253 Poster formerly known as Mr barky,

Yes sir. That is why I want to help save Fudd from himself if he caves. You need to warn any Fudds you know that SASS and Mall Ninja will not let him keep his guns either.

Posted by: sven10077 at January 24, 2013 02:21 PM (LRFds)

256 Evil Black Rifles. Keep saying that or the obvious 'modern sporting rifle'.

Everybody who knows, knows that your evil black rifle is nothing more than an overpriced overrated entry level long arm that will never be more than second rate at anything one can do with a long arm.

257 Boycotts work. I've sent well reasoned letters to two local businesses about their 'no guns allowed' signs. Both have now taken down the sign. The owner of one of those businesses wrote me back stating that my letter is what made him change the policy.

258 In the Trade Show Industry, cancellations so close to the run of the event would have cost the exhibitors a good portion of the money that they paid to "reserve" the booth space.
These boycotting exhibitors paid a price to have their voice heard, and Reed will not have to refund those monies, by contract.
