For those who were wondering, here's the text (PDF) of the House's debt ceiling bill, with the House and Senate pay withholding provision. It avoids the Twenty Seventh Amendment merely by withholding payment until the earlier of either the last day of the current Congress or the day that a concurrent budget resolution is approved.

And finally, for the lawgeeks, the Supreme Court's gay marriage cases are getting into full swing. Yesterday, the Prop 8 proponents filed the opening brief in their case, which you can read here (PDF). The House Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group (BLAG) also filed its opening brief in the separate DOMA litigation, which you can read here (PDF).

1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, January 23, 2013. On this day in 1964 the 24th amendment was ratified thus barring a requirement to pay taxes to vote. What was haled a grand civil rights act was actually the death knell of the country as the FSA finally got what they needed.

2 Anti-football folks do more work to ban football. Brain scan finds brain damage in ex-NFL players. A chose what you think (1) Scientific evidence that shows more should be done, including a ban on football (2) BS concocted by lawyers to win huge settlement for themselves and a discount ticket for the players (3) BS scheme by the crunchy granola crowd to simply eliminate all violence from everything. My question is this, how have they validated these exotic new scans to show the signs are in fact brain damage AND that they came from football? This news article makes no mention of that.

55 Howdily-doodily, neighboreenos.

I want to start out by apologizing if I offended any of you yesterday during the various threads. It’s why I tend to stay out of the political discussions beyond the basic “TFG suxxor! Eleventy!”

Anyway. . .yesterday I promised aussie I’d tell an Errol Flynn story, and J.J. said I ought to repeat the one he read in Flynn's autobiography, My Wicked, Wicked Ways called the "Duck Necklace" story. Don't worry – even though it’s Flynn, "duck necklace" is not something you’re going to have to hit the Urban Dictionary for.

The story takes place during Flynn’s boyhood in Tasmania. It seems that one day he happened to look in the neighbors' yard and saw a flock ofducks - perhaps six or seven of them - along with the usual assortment of pigs and dogs and all sorts of animals. While he watched, the neighbor appeared with a big slop jar: "He came out one day with a full bowl and emptied it into the yard, along with a big piece of boiled meat, fat, greasy and disgusting. A duck came along and glub! swallowed the piece whole."

Of course, ducks don't eat meat. Flynn knew this, so, curious, he followed the duck around the yard to see what would happen and, sure enough, about ten minutes later, out popped the piece of meat, whole and undigested, from the back end of the duck. This gave the young mischief-maker an idea: he picked up the clump of meat, brought it back into the house, washed it and then threaded a length of twine through it. He then walked back to his neighbors' yard and tossed the meat to one of the ducks, who immediately swallowed it - and the length of twine - whole. Ten minutes later - pop! out it shat. Laughed Flynn, years later, "Now the twine is going in through the mouth and coming out behind, so off I went to the next one! The second duck swallowed it, and now the twine was running into and out of two ducks in a row - so on to a third! Then the fourth and the fifth. . ."

Within the space of an hour, Flynn had seven ducks all chained together with a piece of string, and happily earned pocket money by charging the neighborhood children a shilling each to watch the "duck necklace" walking all together in a line.

I’m going to try to stay under the radar today. I hope you all have a wonderful day. And please don’t forget my book, The Director’s Cut: A Theda Bara Mystery,on Kindle and at the Amazon and Barnes and Noble websites.

77 59 I refuse to be unhappy. Life's too short

I got cut off on my morning commute. The cutter proceeded to box me from getting past him. I was frothing at the mouth, but then decided not to shorten my life with that fool. I turned on the classical music station, which usually helps, and here I am.

Words to live by: there are a lot more of them out there than you. On the optional stuff, fight the battles you can win, and let the rest go.

78 - "Health insurance brokers are trying to prepare their clients for major Obamacare sticker shock. Among other things, premium prices may triple by the end of the year."

That's only half the story.

In addition to skyrocketing health insurance premium costs (and part of those sums come directly out of workers' paychecks) the other shoes which are dropping are that employers are cutting hours to get people under the 30-hour threshold for coverage, cutting employees entirely to get themselves under the 50-employee threshold for the law, not hiring to stay under that threshold, and otherwise taking steps that reduce take home pay and benefits for workers.

All to avoid the bite of Obamacare.

We're not talking about a few people. We're talking about millions upon millions of people out there who will earn less money, have worse employment, and have worse benefits packages, post-Obamacare than they did pre-Obamcare, all directly because of Obamacare.

Once you get outside the coffee klatches and sewing circles of the chattering classes the brutal reality is that elections, laws and policies have severe consequences.

Well, that was pretty much me for the last half of 2012.

The good news? You can get over it once the LIB mentality sinks in (which is easy once you realize that it's gonna burn anyway and there ain't nothing you, me and what's left of non-sheeple America can do about it) and I'm actually much happier and at peace.

The bad news? Well, The Burning Time is going to suck for all of us. And the local Bass Pro is all out of ammo.

When I started, quilt shop fabric was $5-8/yd. Now it's $10-16 yd. Part of it's cotton prices (droughts, petroleum prices); part of it's QE-Infinity.

So I'm starting with finishing up the tops I found in a box, and then I'll move on to all the fabric I dyed three years ago when I was working 800 miles from home.

So without further ado, Sven J Olafson Chinese History "However long" Theater presents....

Three Kingdoms (2010) Episode 1 Part 1/4
http://youtu.be/WNHnX4xsplo

Three Kingdoms covers the period from ~189 AD to ~280AD, the Chinese use stories from the period to reinforce character lessons to young people and give lessons on the nature and personalities of power and the roles of duty and filial piety. The saga is presented with magic, demi-gods, and fate as its own force tearing concentrated power asunder and craftings its recovery and rebirth at intervals. Several of the Characters have been revered in Chinese lore since the period including such maintays of modern video games on the period as Liu bei, Cao Cao, and Guan Yu.

In todays' episode the Emperor calls in Dong Zhuo from the frontier to help stabilize the Kingdom after He Jin the leader of Imperial forces who defeated the Yellow Turban Rebellion was murdered by a conspiracy of Eunuchs and the favorite Royal concubine. Dong Zhuo filled a power vacuum created when Yuan Shao, Cao Cao, SunJian and others of He Jin's General Staff murdered several of the eunuchs, by bringing in people from the frontier and 2d tier powerful families to take over administration. Rather than repair the damage to the countryside inflicted by the 5 year rebellion that had just been subjugated, Dong Zhuo decided to focus on an "artistic renaissance" and concentrate financial power in the Capital at Luo Yang leading to anxiety and responsibility for recovery being seen by the peasantry and gentry as being administered by the local militia leadership.
The Emperor Ling has died having his equally weak and ineffective oldest son Liu Ban take power, in an act that earned the disrespect of many patriots Dong Zhuo decides to remove Liu Ban and crown his younger brother Liu Xie installed. The Southwestern corner of the nation led by Imperial cousin Liu Yan isolated his region from the influence of the Imperial court and people start plotting against the Prime Minister and plan to stabilize the rule of the Han and allow economic recovery. Heroes and Villains will rise and fall, and nothing will be the same.
If inclined one might compare and contrast this production of the saga with the 1995 production.

There is a much better quality of many visuals this go around, and the story is given a slightly wider scope of focus.
Enjoy.

Georgetown's primary businesses are a paper mill, and an on again/off again steel mill. There's some lumber recovery and residual business and it is a long commute away from Charleston and within easy driving distance of Myrtle Beach of course. Our condo was in Surfside Beach, and the southern beach communities have a fairly sizeable population of retired New Englanders.

J.J. in the end it boils down to what you are looking for in relocation, and what your spouse needs career and socialization wise.

I wish you the best of luck in finding your place.

Like every other grievance group, the left seeks them out as constituents, playing up the fact that they have been historically persecuted and subjugated, regardless of the fact that they are no longer that.

Plus, homosexuality runs counter to the traditional family unit - which happens to be the fundamental building block of the ordered, civil society and is antithetical to the totalitarian state. That's why the black American family essentially has ceased to exist post the Great Society and why blacks vote Dem 99% of the time. They are slaves to the state, as are/will be most homosexuals; at least the ones whose lives are solely defined by their sexuality and nothing else.

204 So Matt Dumbass's movie is a huge fucking bomb? Quelle surprise. Let me take a guess: Since Matt has had this piece of shit financed by some oil ticks and Matt's as dumb as a fucking post when it comes to sciency stuff, it's probably a sob story of how some people sold the mineral rights to their property to these bastard skinflints and had their land ruined when they didn't make jack shit off of it (I don't know if that's the "plot" but it's an educated guess). What Matt fails to tell you is that there are winners and losers in every free market undertaking and if you're gonna be a fucking dumbass, like Matt, there's a good chance that you can be fleeced by unscrupulous cocksuckers. Unstated by Matt in this fucking polemic posing as third rate art, is that there are tons of people making money and benefiting away from this sob story. And one thing that even the fuckheads benefit from is not financing a bunch of Wahabi nutjobs that want to separate their otherwise useless domes from the rest of their fatassed bodies and otherwise wreak havoc on this country.

The invisible hand is turning a big thumbs down on Matt no matter what Fat Egbert has to say about it. And maybe giving him the finger.

I think the one you are referring to was in AL. It started out as a "school shooting". Then turned into a shooting at a school fraternity house. Then later a shooting near the campus. And finally turned up to be an argument and fight by a bunch of blacks at a house a significant distance away that had nothing to do with the college.
Within 2 days the story was completely 180° out from what was originally reported.

So how you like more guns laws? Why don't they enforce the ones on the books? Lets try to keep Holder out of gun law enforcement, since he is a known Obama shill and liar!

The perennial effort to do away with dollar bills and replace it with coins is technologically obsolete now, because card readers, and later, smartphone readers will allow electronic transactions for venders who don't want to mess around with paper dollar bill slots. Thus, we can end this egregious attempt at rent-seeking.

Remember the shooting on MLK street on MLK day? The cops said right away that it had nothing to do with the MLK day events that had recently finished there.

Any guess as to how they came to that conclusion so quickly?

215 For 2 days Beyonce lip sync has been a top story on google news. I don't if I should laugh or cry.

"Insurers need to explain this very clearly and precisely to their clients/customers."

That'd be nice, of course, but then HHS Secretary Shecantbeserious will blast them for doing so.

How do I know this?

Because Humana tried that a while back with Medicare:

"The government is investigating a major insurance company for allegedly trying to scare seniors with a mailer warning they could lose important benefits under health care legislation in Congress."

Yup, that's the one.

Hey, here's a thought, do we have idea if Tiny Dick McLoser Fuck used a rifle or handguns to slaughter those children? I mean, I'm sure the MFM wants to get all the facts correct on this story, given how important it is and all.

218 We now know he used a bunch of pistols and the "bad rifle" remained in the trunk. There was a post on that one a few days back that EVERYTHING the MFM put out the first few days has turned out to be wrong.

220 A new Q poll
has Chris Christie's approval rating at 74 percent. The Democrat who
runs closest to Christie (former interim Gov. Dick Codey) trails him by
29 points. Cory Booker leads Sen. Frank Lautenberg, 51-30% in the
Democratic primary.

To paraphrase St. Thomas More to Richard Rich, Why Chris, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world... but for New Jersey?

223 Over at Slate, they begin up Climate Change with this quote from President Barack Obama's inaugural address ...

"That is how we will preserve our planet, commanded to our care by God.
That's what will lend meaning to the creed our fathers once declared."

Obama falls into the trap. Captain James T Kirk frames the question right in "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" (1989), ... "What does God need with a starship?"

Why does God need us to do anything ? God is God, the omnipotent.

Every time I head something like that uttered by Obama, I think of the Crusaders and the Jihadists, the holy warriors, who tell us they are going it for God. No, they are not. They are doing it for themselves. God just doesn't work that way.

BS scheme by the crunchy granola crowd to simply eliminate all violence from everything.

Does that include movies? Or is Hollywood exempt from that judgement?

226 225 Katya the designated driver,

Hollywood will get theirs in the same way the evangelical secular humanists will get theirs when Radical Islam feels it is time.

When the guns are gone, when sports are denuded of fierce competition they will move in on Hollywood if need be or Hollywood will most likely happily cave pre-emptively.
