Happy Tuesday.

While Democrats have paroxysms of glee at Obama's inaugural promises to spend more money the country doesn't have on progressive programs most people don't want, smarter commentators noted what was lacking in the speech.

Here's the AP: "If there was a way to reconcile such spending with demands to stabilize the nation's debt, he didn't mention it."

David Ignatius, after calling the speech "flat, partisan and pedestrian," noted: "If you were hoping that the president would set the stage for a grand bargain to restructure America’s entitlement programs and fiscal health for the 21st century, you wouldn’t have found much encouragement."

Even Politico found that there was no indication that Obama's claim four yours ago that he would make "hard choices" on entitlement reform would come true in a second term: "His inaugural address promised an ambitious progressive agenda — and laid bare Obama’s deeply conflicted relationship with entitlement reform."

In other news, the Canadians are pissed off at themselves for their new bank note which features the wrong Maple leaf. A real quote, not from the Onion: "It’s almost Canadian in the fact that we can’t even get our symbols right."

Scientists want to create a cave-baby, Jurassic Park-style. Moronettes, they're looking for a volunteer...

The House GOP introduced legislation yesterday to keep the government from hitting the debt ceiling until at least May 18. It would withhold the pay of lawmakers in either the House or Senate if their chamber fails to pass a budget this year (so, not by May 18, but sometime before October). The point, say House Republicans, is to force the Senate to pass a budget so normal budgeting negotiations can begin, something the Democrats have avoided for four years.

4 House Republicans cave in on debt limit. According to this article, they do it to prevent a “default” which everyone with half a brain knows is bullshit. Now all they are asking for is for Harry Reid to pass a budget. This is the most pathetic shit I have ever seen and it beats Boner’s old rollovers. Folks we are truly DOOMed and I am sure Monty will have something on this today.

This is just a new way for Boner and company to cave in. As noted yesterday, a pay freeze will not work because it can not take effect until a new congress 2 years from now.

And what kind of BS budget will Land Dela Pederast give us? Just like the last debt ceiling cave in Boner did, a nothing deal. He gave it up for a bag of magic beans and the agreement to kiss hairy Reid's ass on the town square.

21 Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Thanks for the morning briefing, Gabe and Vic.

Today’s story takes place during the filming of Clark Gable’s last movie, 1961’s The Misfits. During the shoot, Gable and producer Frank Taylor both had their families on set. One night the children, including Gable’s son, John, decided to go to a drive-in. As it turned out, the show that night was a double feature and the car of miscreant youths didn’t return until after midnight.

John Gable was only four at the time; naturally, the others were afraid of his father’s wrath, and as they drove up to the ranch house where the Gables were living, there was Clark on the porch, his face dark with anger. Haltingly, the kids tried to explain where they had been and what they were doing, but Gable cut them off. He was about to launch into an epic tirade when producer Taylor’s son stammered, “But – but, Mr. Gable – it was one of your movies we saw!”

At that, Gable’s anger melted away and his face broke out into that famous cockeyed grin. “Well, I guess that’s OK, then,” he said. “Just don’t be so late next time.”

Hope you all have a wonderful day. Buy my book, The Director’s Cut: A Theda Bara Mystery, on Kindle, blah, blah, blah.

24 Avoided all media yesterday and immersed myself in a few interesting Danish/Swedish TV cop shows. The level of propaganda almost reaches the level of an Aaron Sorkin/Michael Moore co-production.

One villain was an ex-Israeli special forces guy who murders an innocent Pali boy in Gaza, smuggles diamonds (hint-hint) and uses them to buy weapons for African strongmen. Another is a rouge CIA agent who uses (get this) a white Danish jihadist to blow up a ferry with an innocent Islamic girl as the patsy with the bomb belt. The ensuing carnage is the pretext to steal Iraq's oil because the whole shooting match is financed by an American oil corporation. The good cop talks the girl out of it by proclaiming over and over that Islam means peace and that murder/suicide is "harram."

It would be laughable were it not for the fact that it's so poisonous.

While past measures to address the debt limit have simply increased the borrowing cap, the House bill would actually suspend the debt limit until May 19. On that date, the debt limit would be automatically increased from $16.4 trillion to accommodate Treasury’s borrowing beyond that cap.

The arrangement provides some political cover for Republican lawmakers, because they will not be required to vote for a specific dollar amount that could be used against them in campaign ads.

Whenever I think of our supposed GOP "leaders," I always think of John Adams' slam at John Dickinson in 1776:

that there was no indication that Obama's claim four yours ago that he
would make "hard choices" on entitlement reform would come true in a
second term: "His inaugural address promised an ambitious progressive

entitlement reform."

Why does anybody pretend that the JEF plans on doing a fucking thing positive on entitlements? He's already told Boehner that he doesn't believe the country has a spending problem and once the Indonesian gets an idea in his otherwise empty head, Choom Boy refuses to let go of it by pesky facts no matter how many there are.

Not that I mind them being here a bit longer of course...

I'm looking forward to travelling with them and spending a few weeks in San Diego - I haven't been south of LA before

99 It doesn't matter on entitlements anyway if by that what they mean is SS. When Obama took office he immediately jacked up spending by $1.1T and he has never decreased it because the Senate has refused to pass a budget since the Republicans took the House and they go along with CRs.

If they were serious they could immediately kill every damn bit of spending that he put in place and send it to the Senate with pass it or get nothing.

But they are not serious.

Entitlements do not become a problem until a few more years down the road, and that is only because they spent all the SS "fixes" previously.

There are two ways this can be fixed. Article V convention or ........

100 How surreal is it that in referencing "smarter commentators" the main blog post author then refers specifically to the Associated Press and to a WaPo writer? By analogy it's like referring to "better coaches" in football and then naming the likes of Chan Gailey and Romeo Crennel. But it does speak volumes. The media is so far to the left and spaced out into sheer idiocy a liberal hack like David Ignatius actually becomes a voice of reason.

138 The plan, dubbed “no budget, no pay,” allows the government to get three
more months of borrowing authority, with no immediate spending cuts
required, in exchange for having to pass a budget within that time. If
senators fail to do so, they will be denied their federal paychecks....“Furthermore, if the Senate or House fails to pass a budget in that
time, members of Congress will not be paid by the American people for
failing to do their job.”

From your link, Vic. I don't understand how Gabe is wrong and you're right. This says they lose all their pay until they pass a budget, not that it's frozen at current levels. It does say their pay is frozen in an escrow account until they pass a budget.

Don't object to Condi taking the job with CBS as long as she gets to give her opinion. Local radio guy who was the Mike Tyson prosecutor on the rape conviction got hired by CBS for legal commentary. He said he lasted about a year, because they didn't like his opinions, used him less and less, and then let the contract expire.

CBS isn't interested in reporting the news or giving expert analysis from a variety of points of view. They are interested in advancing their narrative. I wouldn't be surprised if this is simply a way to get her under contract so that they can simply keep her from talking to anyone else.

156 In other news, the Canadians are pissed off at themselves for their new bank note which features the wrong Maple leaf.

Being a reactionary right wing asshole, I'm pissed off that the maple leafisconsidered anything more than something that's a painin the ass during raking season.

But since history scares progressive douchenozzles, we now have that fucking maple leaf onour flag and everywhere else.

Red Ensign fuckers. Red.Ensign.

Anyway, mildly interesting trivia. On a trip to the Dominican Republic a decade or so back, I learned that the DR locals used to accept Canadian money, but stopped doing so when some asshole couch fuckers started using Canadian Tire money to buy trinkets from country bumpkins (Canadian Tire is sort of an older, smaller Home Depot that gave CT 'money' as a small percentage cashback on purchases).

In a just world, those purveyors of douchebaggery would be castrated.

Try rubbing alcohol or if that doesn't work, move up to Goof Off or lacquer thinner. Wear gloves and open the windows. Nasty, potentially carcinogenic.

I remember the days when my dad would wash his hands in thinner to get rid of oil paint. Sheesh.

See? That's somewhat clever. Of course, they'll still have to stick by it (since they can always just pass another law that says, "You know what? Never mind."), but at least it's a step.

After peeling the eggs, just push them slowly through a cooling rack or other type of grate directly into your mixing bowl. Add mayonnaise, mustard, celery, or whatever else you like and fold your salad gently so you don't mush up the eggs too much.

198 #164 What we NEED is a plan. I just read an article this morning that the left has a new strategy: buying up local talk radio shows and converting them to a non-talk format. This happened in the Indianapolis area, where the station that carried Glen Beck and Dennis Miller got bought by CBS and was converted to all-sports.

We MUST get control of a larger segement of the media. And while everyone acts like the "new media" is going to save us, it will not. Low-information voters are not reading blogs or watching podcasts.

This radio station thing really disturbs me. I have noticed that there are hardly any ads anymore on the local station which carries Rush. The owner of the station is Jeff Smulyan, who is a big democrat, and I think he is not selling ads in preparation for converting to another format. This is after already switching WIBC to an FM from an AM station (AM went to sports talk) so that it reached much less of an area.

People are not looking at the little signs of what's going on and it bothers me that they are probably outflanking us again.

"When I was a little kid, my father and I were walking in Central Park and we came upon two people fucking by a tree. I had no idea what they were doing so I asked my father, 'Pa, what are they doing?' He answered (in a heavy Yiddish accent), der von in de front is sick and der von in de back is pushin' her to Mount Sinai Hospital.'

I thought nothing of it until many years later, when I was walking in the park, I saw the same thing. So I went up to the two of them and tried to help, but they kept shooing me away.

Allen, this should be on a blog somewhere.

Whenever I hear this realtor pitch, I think, these guys have cause and effect reversed. Children raised in homes owned by there parents can be expected to do better because they have a family structure that is coherent enough that they are working and are qualified to buy a home. They also see a level of personality that is not aotomatically conferred by being given a home loan due to your demographic characteristics. But in the brave new fair world, I think we will see a lot of "effect and cause" reasoning implemented with our tax dollars.

Just after Elizabeth Taylor was promised $1 million for Cleopatra, a bunch of producers were sitting downin a restaurant talking about it when Hackett walked by.

"Hey, Buddy!" one called. "Would you give Liz Taylor a million to make a movie?"

"Nope,"
answered Buddy. "I'd give her five grand."

"Five grand!"
the producer repeated. "Are you serious?"

"Sure,"
Hackett smiled. "'Cause she'd say 'kiss my ass,' and that's all I want from her, anyway!"

And now I've got to run. Later, 'rons.

227 With all of the people able to afford buying a home, one thing they forgot. No one new how to take care of a home. The ones they were buying in our area were the older ones that need a little more upkeep because the house is over 30 years old. Most of the time, the owners couldn't be bothered to put on a coat of paint. Or repair the window rot. Or mow the frikkin lawn.

After the crash, they just moved on. Like locust.

228 a pay freeze will not work because it can not take effect until a new congress 2 years from now

I see. You are correct in that you describe its questionable legality. Gabe is correct in that a "pay freeze" typically connotes pay that does not rise with time. I believe this is the source of the confusion, at least on my part.

230 227 Bruce,

It is a psychology trick.

I do not "own" a house I "owe" a house.

Too many think a bank being willing to trust you with a big enough loan to screw up your life spectacularly is "ownership."

232 198 #164 What we NEED is a plan. I just read an article this morning that the left has a new strategy: buying up local talk radio shows and converting them to a non-talk format. This happened in the Indianapolis area, where the station that carried Glen Beck and Dennis Miller got bought by CBS and was converted to all-sports.

In the Boston market and points south, we lost two major and several minor talk radio stations in the last six months.

233 I see the group depression is setting in again. Well, it is pretty depressing, I'll grant you. But from our perspective the plan remains the same. Impede Obama at every step. No votes that allow him to harm the country, period. Will he do some of what he wants by Executive Order and regulatory intervention? Of course he will, far too much of it in fact, and illegally so in many instances.

But this thing now has a lifespan. You can now count with certainty the hours until this lying, racist, unAmerican fraud is out of office. And in the interim? Well, things seem bleak now, but things have a funny way of coming full circle in this world.

I doubt LBJ ever thought his policies would lead to Reagan - or even Nixon - but they did, and this too shall pass. We'll just be in debt up to our eyeballs. Still, I predict gains in the midterms for our side.

Two related questions:

1. How much debt does the left think the world will allow us to accumulate before changing the composition of the world reserve currency into a broad, multinational basket of funds, thereby devaluing our dollars on the spot? $20MM? $30MM? $50MM? I ask because they seem to believe there is no actual upper limit.

2. Given Michelle's ridiculously young and sometimes lopsided new hair, are we still obliged to pretend she's beautiful even though she's ugly just because she's black? There should be a guide for this kind of stuff.

Depression is one thing, but being realistic is one thing. I hate to say it but the Reagan years were more of an anomaly than a trend. Great though he was and his accomplishments were, it only slowed or perhaps halted the statist/leftist agenda for a few decades. Unfortunately, the Leviathan is much too large and those who feed it are way too entrenched to ever cut it down to size. Even if we elected Ronald Reagans in every leadership position, the bureaucracy - what Levin calls the unelected 4th branch of government - is at this stage too powerful to get rid of. Plus we have a corrupt judicial branch that will rule against us if/when we seek redress in the courts.

The only way I see going forward is massive civil disobedience on our side (withholding [ha!] of taxes) or some sort of secession. Armed or otherwise.

Sven,

The overall concept of using a 3D printer to make the components of a functioning weapon is a joke. Yes, the replicator can fashion certain items out of resin, but the actual parts that make a gun a gun need to be made out of something with tensile strength, which eliminates resins and ceramics.

Just because some geek can write the code to program a printer to make a copy of a lower receiver or magazine doesn't mean the item would work.

308 300 Jwest,

The lower receiver housing "already works: what is in question is durability.

I get what you are saying, you'll note I am not on the bandwagon hard about 3d printing and offered at least a 100 bucks towards "Moron Arts and Crafts" for real machining tools.

I simply think it is an interesting avenue for research and tinkering.

311 I got it! Let's arm the Chechens and Uighurs! Oh, wait a minute...

LOL ... or maybe a destabilizing fundamentalist group in the Middle East ! Funny how all that shit comes back around as politics change. Like our paying AQ elements in the Syrian rebels ... and say, now that I think about it, there's a story that seems to have fallen off the media radar screen in a hurry.

I guess like Turkey, Isreal, Egypt, Libya and Algeria, the whole Syrian thing doesn't put Obama in a favorable enough light and therefore must by MSM demand go back into the memory hole.

or if the Army screws her my family in Franklin, IN in ~2-3 years...

truth be told I think I'd squat in Louisiana or Texas first.

Their leader of course. Meggy Mac.

And I don't care how stupid Meghan Fox is. Her brain isn't anywhere on my list of things I care about in regards to her.

Lib prof wife will object. We will be scouting South Carolina this June so at least that will be somewhat more palatable.

318 Presdent obama's speech yesterday was so enlightening. I felt so good the rest of the day. It seemed the birds were chirping his praise and wisdon, the sky in southern Vermont seemed bluer and the sunset was a beuatiful Obama red. Yesterday was the perfect day and I am glad I stayed home from work to watch Presdent Obama's big day yesterday. I do regret that I had to skip work, but it was worth it and I think my boss will also forgive me. Micheale Obama's hair cut was fabulous and she is a great co-presdent and we are so lucky to have such a beautiful woman telling presdent obama what to do. Yeah for presdent obama and the next four years of properiety, equallity and no more wars. ;-)

319 JJ there's always Austin.

We're looking at the Dallas area in the next decade.
No intention of buying a home here in Cali. Not worth it. Frankly it isn't worth buying a home anyway. The bank owns it you pay prop taxes on it and it means shit to you when you die.
The home buying crap got us into this mess.

320 319 CAC,

Whomever winds up with this land is likely not to care but one can make the argument that the Northwest Ordinance itself laid the groundwork for the rot...

321 J.J. Sefton,

You outta add a shout out to Blazing Saddles in you daily list and add "...and Methodists!" to the end.

322 280 3D printer?

You have just about as good a chance doing that as making an operable gun. People just don't realize how ridiculous this concept is.

FWIW, Star Wars didn't have to actually work to bankrupt the Sovietski Soyuz. Some really cool animated Harvard Graphics slideshows and a bunch of funding authorization was enough to get them to economically shit themselves.

Maybe 3dp + 2a = just enough to make "the 1" look like an epic powermad douche fighting against the open source world. I'd almost settle for that at this point. A lot of people (who just realized their paychecks just went down) are wondering where the beef was in that sermo...er, speech yesterday.

No, no, no. Wrong, and you know it. The thickness of a dollar bill is such that it can be stacked to make a precise shim for a wobbly table.
