I'm off from work today. Last inaugeral day, I was at work, and the number of people glued to computer screens and the two tv's in the staff lounge (complete with joyous crying) was absolutely sickening. I am thinking that there will be less of that this time. (Definite enthusiasm gap this election from last). I think people will pretty much be just going about their business.
I just find it interesting that even here in blue, blue Seattle, I know a lot of people who voted for him the first time, did not vote for him the second time. I don't know anyone who didn't vote for him before, vote for him this time. There were hardly any signs for him in the predominately minority neighborhood (Central District) where I work. Last election, you couldn't see the grass for the Obama signs. I still can't believe he won.

and--
for too many of those counties the Republican vote was about 10% less than the Republican vote in 2008 for mcCain.

1. The electorate was heavily Dem, w/ GOP turnout down from what it could have been.
2. 54% of those who came out to vote approved of O's job as Prez. The same day he was avg 50% appv in national polls. This shows you more of the 50% who approve showed up to vote then the 50% who dissappv.
3. The exits showed that the electorate generally thought Romney won the argument and O had not fared to well in his 1st term. In fact plurality/majorities of the D+6 electorate thought Romney was a better leader, a better Prez for the economy, had better visions and plans, etc. However 81% thought Obama "cared more". In short, the electorate knew O sucked but stuck w/ him anyway. Scary stuff right there.

I'm sure others will go after the details, but I'll say with near certainty that it's the form letter his office has developed to send to everyone who writes a letter to him on the subject. It throws bones to people on both sides of the issue and allows him to not make a stand one way or the other because Congress is still looking into it. It's a common feature of form letters all over the Hill: try to make everyone happy without actually taking a stand on an issue until absolutely necessary.
It's got reassurances for people who want restrictions on guns (not believing the 2nd Amendment is an absolute, some guns should be outlawed, and the list of incidents) while trying to show he's a nice guy to those who don't want more restrictions on guns (he supports the 2nd Amendment, mentions mental illness support as something to be examined).

This didn't work out.

Has anyone else seen the movie...'Branded'?
I watched it last night.
It's set in Russia, which I had no idea was going to be case.
The preview showed all these great special effects of giant monsters devouring buildings...so I thought it was going to be something entirely different.
It claimed that "Lenin created Advertising"...in order to 'sell' the idea that Communism was cool.
The movie wasn't anti-capitalism.
The theme was basically that people are stupid, and that Advertising Executives prey on this.

Every office is different, but form letters go up the food chain for approval to send out, whether the end of the line is the legislative director, the chief of staff, or the member himself/herself.
