Happy Monday.

USA Today is dropping Gallup as its pollster after several notably inaccurate years of results.

Sen. Rubio is rallying votes for his immigration reform plan.

It's nice to know that even if I beat a guy, threaten to kill him, commit legal misconduct, go to jail, and get disbarred, I can always be a Democratic state legislator.

4 Good Morning Morons. Today is Monday, January 21, 2013. On this day in 1793 the French King Louis XVI lost his head for “treason”. And on this day in 1977 Carter pardoned all the draft evaders who skipped the country. Now I ask, who was really guilty of treason?

35 OK, ‘rons and ‘ronettes, here we go (and my choice is Morticia, as you’ll see).

Thanks for the morning briefing, Gabe and Vic. Since we’re cursed with the SCOAMF, Worfette and their brood infesting the White House for the next four years, why don’t we turn our attention to the occupants of an altogether different house?

Last week, I told you a story about possibly the most famous house in the history of the movies next to the brooding Gothic manse that rises high above the shabby Bates Motel in Psycho – the crumbling, overgrown, impossibly extravagant Spanish Revival style home of silent screen star Norma Desmond at 10086 Sunset Boulevard.

Now, let’s move to the smaller screen of television to a house that, unlike its oft-twinned partner at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, once really existed: the home of Gomez and Morticia Addams at 0001 Cemetery Lane. In other words, the Addams Family house.

The house, a Second Emipre style manse, was built in 1888 for a man named Henry Newhall. Although its real address was 21 Chester Place, because of its location in the West Adams district just south of downtown LA, the city directory initially gave it the fortuitous address of 747 West Adams Street (and not Adams Boulevard, as reported in the otherwise marvelous The Addams Chronicles).

By 1906, the house had been bought by Edward and Estelle Doheny, oil millionaires who were buying up all lots in the immediate vicinity in order to protect their privacy. Once it was bought, the house was gated off and, like two other houses across the street, rented out. In 1958, Estelle Doheny’s will left the Chester Place house and surrounding land to Mount St. Mary’s College, and, as part of a complex that included student and teacher housing, that was where Filmways Productions (an MGM subsidiary) found it.

The house was used as a backdrop during the 1964 pilot episode The Addams Family Goes To School, and can be seen in back of Gomez during the opening credits of each subsequent episode, as he merrily sharpens the iron spikes topping the railings enclosing the house. But because the house didn’t have quite the “Addams Family” look Filmways wanted, they made some alterations.

Watch the pilot and the episode introductions. You’ll see the front of the house, with its porch-cochère, and first and second stories, but no higher. Where’s the tower where Uncle Fester hides in his closet and Pugsley plays with gunpowder? Well, they didn’t really exist. 21 Chester was a two-story and attic house; Filmways simply blew up a production shot to larger dimensions for artist Louis McMannus to create a matte portrait of the house, adding a tower, high gingerbread-shingle roofs and even a bent TV antenna, as well as aging the house a bit to give it a more appropriate appearance.*

But unlike Sunset Boulevard, the interior of the Chester Place house wasn’t copied for The Addams Family, the interior and its decorations being designed by set decorator Ruby Leavitt, a veteran who also had Pillow Talk, The Sound of Music and Chinatown to her credit.

After the end of Addams’ second season, it hadn’t been decided whether the show was to be renewed, so the house set was locked down until further notice, with no one being allowed access. When the word came down that the show was canceled, the set was opened. . .only to find that, during some point in the lockdown, it had been broken into and nearly all of the wonderful props – Fester’s bed of nails, Gomez’s suit of armor, Morticia’s wicker chair, the swordfish with the leg of Cousin Ferook sticking out of the mouth – had been stolen!

Then, at some point between 1968 and 1972, the Chester Place house was demolished, and where students at the Frederick Douglass Academy now run track and field events once stood that creepy, kooky and altogether ooky house which will forever be known as The Addams Family House.

I hope you all have a wonderful day. And, just to bore you to tears a teeny but more – why not check out my book, The Director’s Cut: A Theda Bara Mystery, available on Kindle and at the Amazon and Barnes and Noble websites?

*Trivia – the porte-cochère of the Addams House is also seen in an exterior shot used for the 1964 movie Seven Days in May.

More trivia - if you go about five blocks east of the Addams House location heading towards the Harbor Freeway, you’ll come to 649 West Adams Boulevard; once the home of Theda Bara, and, later, Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle.

Good morning you morons!

My thought today.. has anyone figured out how much it will cost this country when King Barry I brings millions of illegal immigrants into semi-legal status if that qualifies them for federal benefits?

Think about it.. for a measly fine (which will go uncollected) these illegals will enter at the bottom of the earnings scale and automatically start getting food stamps, Obamacare subsidies, earned income credits (negative income tax), etc. etc..

Someone needs to calculate this and shout that number to tax payers whenever Barry brings up his little plan.

122 Good Morning.

It's a freaking Ray Lewis love fest around these parts, I think I may puke. I had to deal with Fireworks, screaming neighbors and a barrage of how great and wonderful St. Lewis is on my FB feed. How can these people hold him up as a wonderful role model when he clearly got away with murder, or at the very least accessory to murder. I think I may have to go into hiding for a few weeks, just to avoid my "it's destiny" neighbors.

I'm a Redskin fan, hate the Ravens, but the Patriots are my daughters team, so needless to say she was not a happy camper last night.
