No One Needs An Evil Black Rifle

That's what the left keeps telling us. Please allow me to retort:

Under segregation, blacks were "The Other". Every black man was a rapist, thief or murderer who just hadn't been caught yet.

There really aren't words to describe how wrong this was, yet the left has no problem at all doing the same thing to legal gun owners. We are now "The Other" who are bent on killing your kids at school by our mere existence. We buy off congressmen to do our evil bidding. We're like the Nazis and the KKK all rolled into one.

Bullshit.

Our basic civil rights pre-date the constitution and are not dependent on what anyone, majority or vocal minority, deems a necessity.

By this standard, no one needs to be, say, a Wiccan when we have all these other religions to choose from, so the religion should be banned.

No one needs to burn a flag or display an image of crucifix in a jar of urine, so these should be banned.

You can still eat lunch at a segregated lunch counter. You can still drink water from a segregated water fountain. You can still learn at a segregated school. No problem with these - unban them.

And on, and on, and on.

So, no, I don't "need" my AR-15 or my 30-round mags. But that is irrelevant to whether the government can tell me I can't have them.

Unfortunately, I would guess that a large majority of our citizenry really have no knowledge of, nor interest in, the BOR or the Constitution as a whole. That was probably always the case, but at least way back when, the people tended to be more irascible about government agents telling them what to do. The long march through the institutions strikes again.

There are so many people who don't pay attention to what is going on, Brandon.

Some of themwon't get pissed until there is a knock at their door.
But it is just now starting to filter out into some ofthe low-info people's little brains...as to what is going on...because of the side-stories, more than the headlines.

People see long lines at a gun show, and go..."Woah, what is going on?"
Or they hear about some state official saying that they won't enforce any new federal gun laws...and say, "Wait, what new gun laws?"

So it will take a little more time, I think, for the massive pushback to kick in.

The truly weird thing is that this guy is a middle-aged middle-manager kind of guy, and I'd bet my watch and chain that he's a Democrat.

I didn't sell, mainly because selling a firearm is a hassle and I've tweaked that AR quite substantially over the years, and I like it. But the whole story just lends more data to the position that President Obama is the best salesman the gun manufacturers ever had.

From the link...

Who better, too, to form the backdrop at the proposal’s unveiling than a caboodle of children, whose vague letters about a “better world” were read out by the president at the start as if they were the Federalist Papers? This, together with the endless repetition of the word “children,” is a despicable trick; an inappropriate, manipulative, and mawkish affront to reason that highlights everything that is wrong with legislating while emotions run — or, rather, are kept — high.

I should point out that the operative word in that quote is "manipulative." Gun-control nuts are clearly jerking the LIV's around by their lady-parts. The only reason this has any effect at all is that our society has been feinized to the point where your emotions can be used against you and your interests.

Jay Leno is on the record stating that he wants an additional $5 per gallon gasoline tax. His reasoning is that the lumpen proletariat cannot then afford to drive cars, and that will drive down the price of classic cars for Jay Leno, while dramatically increasing the supply of gasoline for Jay Leno to use. Win-win.

138 I don't like feeding the trolls, but here's my thought. US gun owners don't stand a chance against the US government. OK.

Right now there are 55 million households in the US with guns. Lets assume that just 10% violently resist. Thats 5.5 million households (not persons). This is also the same military that has been held down for over a decade by somewhere around 100,000 terrorists in Afghanistan. The thing is while direct confrontation would be suicide, any insurgent force knows this and will not choose direct confrontation.
Also given there are around 800,000 troops in the military, and about the same number of police forces, even assuming 100% of those groups would side with the government (they wouldn't) you're still left with 5.5 million insurgents against maybe 1.6 million. But....they have tanks... which are just big paperweights without fuel. Supply lines are the first things to go.
I need to be clear, I'm not advocating anything, I just think its a fallacious argument.

174 Destroying the statists/socialists arguments:

1) Why would anyone need an AR-15?
A: It is the most popular rifle in America. RR owned one. The cops love them. Why would the cops need them? We don't want our cops to be killing machines do we? They are to protect us. If a cop thinks it is an effective tool to protect us, then if the cops are not around it would be an effective tool to protect my family. It is used for target practice and hunting as well. And finally, FUCK YOU, it is a RIGHT to own one. Frankly, this is settled precedent based on Scalia's opinion in Heller. The number one rifle in America is what the American people have chosen and, therefore, it cannot be taken away. Read the opinion and you'll see that. That's why they are fucked on semiautomatic handguns. They are most kept in the home for selfdefense, and they are the most popular conceal and carry weapon.

181 Also given there are around 800,000 troops in the military, and about the same number of police forces, even assuming 100% of those groups would side with the government (they wouldn't) you're still left with 5.5 million insurgents against maybe 1.6 million. But....they have tanks... which are just big paperweights without fuel. Supply lines are the first things to go.
I need to be clear, I'm not advocating anything, I just think its a fallacious argument.

If their families are targeted while they are in the field, "supply lines" wouldn't even be thought of.
THAT is the biggest thing the American serviceman enjoyed during WWI & WWII. They knew their families were safe while they were across the "pond" and while island hopping.
When the rules change, see just how many muster.

A: It is true that weaponry has advanced, surely. But there is no mention of muskets in the Second Amendment. Nor hunting. Aside from rifles and pistols, private citizens had CANNONS AND WARSHIPS. That is what letters of Marque and Reprisal mean. The founding fathers brought in privateers to help fight the Revolutionary war and hired merchant ships that were outfitted to the teeth with cannons and all the modern weaponry of the day.

So, the idea that private citizens only had muskets at the time is a fucking joke.

214 DoD leaders warn Congress of ‘hollow’ force
By Robert Burns - The Associated Press
Posted : Wednesday Jan 16, 2013 19:10:00 EST
WASHINGTON — The nation’s top military leaders warned Congress in unusually stark terms that its failure to pass a 2013 defense budget — coupled with the threat of automatic budget cuts — has pushed the Pentagon to the brink of a crisis.

They wrote in a joint letter to congressional leaders that the readiness of U.S. armed forces is at a “tipping point.”

A copy of the letter was provided Wednesday to The Associated Press.

The military leaders said that troops in combat and those who are being treated for wounds will get the funds needed. But the rest of the force will be severely compromised if the Pentagon has to continue operating on last year’s budget.

“We are on the brink of creating a hollow force,” said the letter signed by the chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and National Guard, as well as the chairman and vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The Pentagon is facing two major money problems. First is the threat of drastic additional budget cuts if Congress and the Obama administration are unable to agree on debt-reduction measures by March. The second is Congress’ failure thus far to pass a 2013 budget; that has left the Pentagon on a spending path based on its previous budget.

Perhaps the first and most important task of any President is to provide of the Defense of the United States of America. And obama is dropping the ball and does not seem to give a shit. Says all you need to know. And by the way this is obama's pentagon saying these things.

233 3) The UK has 35 firearm murders, the US has 12000.

A: This statistic is totally fucked. First, the US had roughly 8600 firearm "homicides", not 12k. Second, of that 8600, a bit over 600 were justifiable homicides by police and citizens. So of actual firearm homicides, the number is just under 8000. Roughly 70% of these can be contributed to gangs, if not more.

Britain had near 70 firearmhomicides, not the 35 that piers dumbass keeps citing. And it is also flawed because in the UK, a "firearm death" is not recorded until there isa CONVICTION, and even then the police are known to underreport crime not to scare away tourists. Also note that Piers never tells you what the firearm crime rate is (he just sticks to homicides because it fits his story). Since the citizens were disarmed, firearm crime is through the fucking roof. I went to the UK in the 1990s and no cops had a gun, period. Now a lot of them are armed. And not just with a trust revolver. BUT WITH FUCKING ASSAULT WEAPONS.

Again, why should the cops need such weapons. We do not want them to be killing machines.

But back to the UK, how is it living there? The people are prisoners in there own homes. In the US 10% of all burglaries are "hot burglaries" meaning that they happen when the people are home. In the UK it is FUCKING 50%!!! "Knife crime" as they call it is out of control and there are a ton of stabbings, so much now that the idiots have been calling for "knife control". Imagine sitting in your home, unarmed, and just wondering if the criminals are going to barge in and attack you, your family, and your property.

And defend yourself? Better not do so. A man shot at two home invaders in the dead of night while he was in his bed (with a bad, illegal gun of course). One of them died. The man, doing nothing but protecting himself, was convicted of FUCKING MURDER and is serving a very long jail sentence.

Not only are the people prisoners in their own land, but the violent crime rate in the UK is out of control. Now it is somewhat distorted because they are very liberal in what they deem an assault, but even if you cut the reported number in half, it still is more than DOUBLE the rate of violent crime in the United States.

The UK is a very dangerous place and will continue to get worse. In the US, the average Joe has a fighting chance thanks to being armed.

And with the possible exception of the nuke (and that's only possible) they wouldn't have cared.

Much of the cannon used in the Revolutionary War was privately owned. A 2 pounder was their equivalent of the shoulder launched missile (reasonably portable, able to deploy relatively quickly). They'd have no problem with private citizens own bazookas or tanks.

241 Wrong. Posted by: maddogg at January 17, 2013 12:34 PM (OlN4e)

Exceeding 1800-2000 fps is going to deform your bullet, unless you either have a jacket, or can alloy your lead to make it hard enough to withstand the acceleration. Them's the breaks. I guess you *could* fire them from a modern rifle with a drastically reduced load. But your accuracy may or may not be there using a velocity so far from original design, and, you are going to perform at best no better than those oldies (but goodies) I listed above. If you want to run cast bullets it's better to get a gun whose cartridge was originally designed for them than say try and derate your 7MM Rem Mag to the point it stops turning your bullets into lead pancakes.

255 209 Grey Fox,

Grey a moral insurgent murders his out of control comrade if need be.

I was a soldier not a "warrior" as the new and improved kung Fu Kommando US Army tries to sell.

I volunteered to put my body between my nation in the form of deference to the Constitution as mandated by the Commander-in-Chief and her enemies.

My posts here have been rather voluminous to show that when legal and justified I am ruthless at heart.

I would not be as collateral averse as our current retarded hamstrung RoE has us, but neither would I kill innocents wantonly.

Our current OPFOR abuses the weak, decapitates the captured, and is as immoral as I hope to be moral in my life and I would not emulate them no matter how satisfying the look in Chris Matthews' eyes when bound a person grabbed an acetylene torch, a Gerber, and a hand saw and told him "Chris the people you lie about and aided when Bush was President in order to undermine our mission are real fans of decapitating people with rusty knives I promise you I will not be using a knife." would be.....

We ARE better than they are.

Insurgency without goals and deference by fighters to elected separate civilian leadership is not something I'd be a part of.

I do fear you're correct, and I would hope you aren't.

God willing the left will back up and we can maintain this union to keep this Republic.

259 4) Even Ronald Reagan was for gun control.

A: It is true that he supported the 1994 assault weapons ban. It is also true that in 1994 he was 83-84 years old and suffering, somewhat significantly, from dementia. It is also true that the Brady's, very personal friends of Reagan's obviously, were hounding him and asking for his support.

It also is true that he had no idea what kind of a goofy ban that was since he owned a fucking AR-15. It also is true that even though he himself was shot and wounded very badly, he never ever supported or called for gun control legislation. It also is true that he was an ardent supporter of the Second Amendment.

He may not get an A grade, but he definitely gets a B++ in my book. He has an excellent article in a 1970s edition of Guns and Ammo that is worth a look.

My (licensed) carry weapon is a commie surplus Bulgarian Makarov in 9 x 18. I changed out the Bulgarian internals with East German precision parts, replaced all of the springs, and gave it a trigger job to reduce the pull on the double-action. Thin carry profile so it barely 'prints' with IWB carry, amazingly accurate, and--most importantly--absolutely reliable. Strongly recommended.

It's difficult to shoot accurately when you're constantly being hit with the unnecessarily loud report and shock wave caused by the muzzle brake deflecting gas sideways.

281 5) The proliferation of heavy weaponry in the US is why there is so much gun violence in the US.

A: No, gangs and cities is the problem. It is the people, not the weaponry. Switzerland has the third highest number of guns and purportedly the highest per capita ownership rate. Its citizens keep their MILITARY FUNCTIONING (MUCH BETTER SHIT THAN WE HAVE) once they are done with their service.

The Washington Post had a hilarious article by some doctor (a medical doctor for fuck's sake) where she says that the Swiss aren't interested in guns anymore and keep their weapons at some kind of depot.
TOTALLY FUCKING UNTRUE. More than 250k (that's a lot of Swiss for such a small population) attend the annual shooting competitions where the government gives out free ammo.

And yet despite all those weapons and all that ammo and all those gun nuts and all that military capability, the murder rate in Switzerland is next to nil. No mass shootings, no school shootings. So, no, ownership of guns is not the problem. Ownership of highpowered military weapons is not the problem.

Oh, and one more stat on the UK, when its people had arms of all kinds THEY NOW HAVE THE SAME FUCKING MURDER RATE as they do now, when everyone but the criminals are disarmed.

And wait for that murder rate in the UK. It's been rising over the years and will continue to go up consistently.

Looking forward to the emergence of jurisprudence on the subject of regulations that are unconstitutional merely because they might "chill" the exercise of Second Amendment rights.

194>>> Fun and practical, and as long as you have wheel weights, you have bullets

"For what a musket? Unjacked lead wont survive the acceleration of a modern round. Only pistol, and OLD rifle rounds (45-70 45-90 25-35 30-30) will survive being fired without a jacket. "

It's still a little bit of uncharted territory, but I've started powdercoating my home cast lead bullets before loading them. The baked polyester powder is as tough as nails to the point where you can squasha bullet almost flat with a hammer before it cracks. I've started doing it to allow me to run cast reloads in my Glock barrel without leading. It also greatly reduces the smoke cloud associated with shooting traditionally lubed bullets.

According to some of the other guys experimenting with the process over at castboolits dot com, they're working up rifle loads that push jacketed velocities. IMO, it has real potential.

In my northern VA county (horse country, outside DC, where lots of CIA and Washington Post hi-lines have always had their estates--did you know Catherine Graham and her husband bought Bill Donovan's townhouse in NW DC when they were newlyweds?) a previous sheriff borrowed all kinds of interesting armored stuff from a local private citizen of the horsey set, parked it at the county building in the county seat, and scared the bejeebers out of the LaRouche folksthinking they were going to be raided.

One the hardness of tire weights is variable. Two recasting presents an unknown element of variable de-alloying. You don't have a full metal furnace I presume and are otherwise incapable of assuring metal strength, hardness, toughness, and brittleness. So you are really just guessing the properties of the metal you are using. If you have achieved consistent results thus far, bravo, it doesn't mean you will get consistent accurate long shooting projectiles from this method.

355 The "you can't hunt with an AR" is complete fallacy. Many people, including myself, hunt with them. The problem is that liberals/non-hunters equate hunting exclusively with large game, particularly deer. The fact is, while from the standpoint of an ethical hunter I would not hunt deer (or elk, or moose, etc) with an AR-15/.223, that platform is ideal for coyotes, groundhogs, prairie dogs, and other varmints. Further, the AR platform in another caliber, e.g. 7.62x51/.308 or even 6.8mm SPC, is useful (and is used) for deer. That's without getting into actual 2A basics.

Wrong again Mike. Lee research found clip on wheel weights to vary in metallurgy little at all. Very consistant. To the point of his recommending it for casting bullets. And a hardness tester will give you the needed information on how fast you can safetly drive them. Lee gives all the charts and formulas. I suggest you check it out. 379 by this post's logic the govt. has no right to maintain the ban on machine guns...which i'm assuming no one here thinks is true, accepting that there are certain countervailing considerations beyond "it's my right."

381 When the US Army issues a weapon, they issue 30 rd magazines. Our soldiers need these mags for the same reason we need them, which is to be militarily effective.
AR-15s are great because they are standardized. This standardization came out of military necessity. What is true for the US Army is equally true for you and me.

The AR-15 platform is a nuisance to keep clean in the field, and--at least based on my experience back in the day with the M16A1--it must be kept immaculately clean or it will malfunction. Meanwhile, I can take my beatup, rattle-rattleYugo commie surplus SKS to the field, and it will obstinately refuse to malfunction no matter how much I abuse it.I can hit center mass on a man-sized target while standing and offhand at 50 meters every time. That's all I want.

So yes, you can achieve precision with an AR-15 platform. Me, I like reliability, so I guess I'll go hang out with the AK and SKS guys on the other side of the gym.
