9 The attitude of Schieffer and Brokaw, as well as the President's assumption of lack of good will and belief on our side, indicate to me that, just as in a marriage, while red and blue America have a lot in common, they do not appear to have enough in common so as to harmoniously live with each other. Perhaps we should just be friends.

Especially given the almost monolithic control of institutions by blue America, compared with red America makng up half the population. Domestic battery, as it were.

14 Hey, Brokaw! First off, Roger Ebert called. He wants his black turtleneck back, you withered motherfucker.

Secondly, you want to talk about gun violence? NOW? Why, because dozens of innocent WHITE school children were murdered by a madman? Where have you been for the last ten, twenty, thirty, forty years, when young blacks have been slaughtering each other by the dozens EVERY DAY in urban areas across the country? Huh? Why didn't you ever speak up about THEM? Why didn't you ever stand up and say, "This has to STOP?"

Oh, I know why. Because, like all regressive tools, you're a racist son of a bitch.

17 And in a related story:

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- Somalia's most dangerous militant group said Thursday that it killed a French hostage that French military forces tried to rescue last weekend during a botched raid.

Al-Shabab said in a Twitter posting that the agent, Denis Allex, was killed Wednesday evening Somalia time.

French officials have said they believe Allex was killed the night of the raid and that claims by al-Shabab of an execution were simply propaganda. Allex, a French intelligence agent, was taken by the militants in July 2009 and had been held ever since.

A French raid Friday night and early Saturday failed to rescue him and resulted in the deaths of two French troops and 17 Somalis, French officials say.

35 The Boss started talking politics in a meeting this morning, which actually shocked me because he very rarely does that. He went on for a bit about the Republicans this and the Republicans that and then said something about how the country can't survive if we can't get along. I'd had it by that point and said "I am done being civil to people who call me a Nazi". He stared at me and I reiterated the point. That pretty much shut down the conversation which was my goal.

I do mean it though. I'm done being civil. I will show respect to my boss, who, to be fair, has never gone that far, but other than that? I'm done with being the only person who is expected to comply with the terms of civil discourse. If the other person starts out with those horrible Republicans, I have no problems escalating from there.

41 Is ownership of guns the modern equivalent of ownership of slaves? Historically one is and one was permitted by the Constituion. Despite that fact, the lines of division for the Civil War were drawn by slave versus free states. Is the same happening here, where state legislatures (Maryland, New York) are pitting their restrictive laws against the laws of others (Texas, Florida)? Certainly the moral comparison does not stand--but the issue of federal--and state--intrusion into individual rights does and results in division, state by state.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at January 17, 2013 09:27 AM (XkWWK)

That would actually make perfect sense to a regressive, since their modus operandi involves holding two utterly contradictory thoughts inside their heads and somehow synthesizing the two into what passes as logic to them.

I suspect it would go more like this, though:

Gun-loving violent NRA goons slaughtered the children in order to force the government to ban their weapons, thus giving the gun-toting Neanderthals so-called 'justification' to rise up in armed rebellion against the government like the bloodthirsty goons they are.

That's how the left thinks. They have no concept of Occam's Razor.

I hadn't looked at it that way, but probably. The run up to the Civil War started with Abolitionists agitating against and killing slave owners then acting shocked when those slave owners started fighting back. Similarities abound. But we haven't yet reached the point of decision on anything yet.

The Boss started talking politics in a meeting this morning, which
actually shocked me because he very rarely does that. He went on for a
bit about the Republicans this and the Republicans that and then said
something about how the country can't survive if we can't get along.
I'd had it by that point and said "I am done being civil to people who
call me a Nazi". He stared at me and I reiterated the point. That
pretty much shut down the conversation which was my goal.

I do mean it though. I'm done being civil. I will show respect to
my boss, who, to be fair, has never gone that far, but other than that?
I'm done with being the only person who is expected to comply with the
terms of civil discourse. If the other person starts out with those
horrible Republicans, I have no problems escalating from there.

I haven't heard any yet, but here's the one I'd make up as a counter, just to fuck with 'em:

A CIA ("CIA/Mossad" if you're selling this to a lefty) mind-control experiment, secret successor to MKUltra, that's causing mass shootings is being done in Colorado, somewhere near Denver. (At the airport! Or under it. Conspiracy people love the Denver airport.) That's why an odd disproportion of school/etc. shootings seem to happen in that area. To throw us off the scent after THE EXPERIMENT WENT OUT OF CONTROL and the shootings began to cluster, geographically and temporally, too obviously, the spooks set off an emergency massacre as geographically far from Denver as possible--in a location chosen for the irony of its name, "Newtown."

"They're gonna see the pattern. We need to do this in a new town."

"LOL!"

Etc.

Call it Operation Tanna. That's Joo for "repeater" (sort of in the sense of "teacher").

111 Exactly as long as they stayed under the SAM umbrella it was difficult for the IDF to get at them. Until US replacement equipment started to arrive like ECM pods that before 1973 the Israelis did not think they needed it was dangerous. Lots of Kurnass and Ayits were shot down and their brave pilots killed because of that conceit.

But once the Egyptian Army moved out from under that umbrella of fixed sites, it became very easy for the re-equipped IDF to strike at the mobile SAM units and then the actual armored formations themselves. The Israeli armored fist just finished the process.

Also: Guess I'm the only person in the US who didn't know about the "inspiring girlfriend" bullshit. Even if I had know, I still would have called it bullshit. I am so damned sick and tired of "inspiring this" and "inspiring that." Everybody is so fucking inspired these days they're just too damned busy to do a damned bit of good.

It's why the Olympics are shit, shit, shit. I don't give a tinker's damn about some genetically gifted person's struggle, their family or their country. All I care about is the guy in red, white and blue winning the gold for my country. And if that ain't happening, then show the sports, uncut, with only play-by-play. Is that so fucking hard?

But no, the women. The women want to know the backstory, they want to connect, they want meaning. So a simple two-minute routine is followed up by an utterly fucking pointless two-minutes replay of her parent's faces during her routine. Camel balls for Christmas, that is fucking stupid!

And the shit leader in sports has infected every sport. Can't even listen to a football broadcast anymore because half the time you wouldn't even know there was a game going on.

So: Fuck inspiration. It's an over-rated sugar-rush, transient and mercurial.

You don't need inspiration to do good, be good and act good. You just need to fucking do it and quit mewling and excuse-making as to why things aren't better.

What would it cost to put together a modern shop for the production of AR15s?

We'd need the space, one CNC mill, one CNC lathe, plus accessories like a vise and toolholders, a gaggle of measuring tools, a couple of computers, network and some software, initial cost around 200K, but I also haven't priced any machinery in a few years. I'm talking used machines to get started with.

However, a few 3-D printers are a little cheaper and could be used for other things as well. They could be operated autonomously at night, since they're not as prone to catastrophic shutdown as a CNC machine would be. A mix of plastic and metal could be done.

If we actually got serious, I could put together some real numbers in about a week's time. There's a machine reseller down here, and I know a few folks I could call for other support.

112>>> What would it cost to put together a modern shop for the production of AR15s?

I'd prefer more...many, manymore...modern shops dedicated to cranking out as much affordable ammo as possible. Everyone and his motherare pinning together AR's these days. Eventually, either by virtue of a ban or relief from the treat of a ban, that market bubble is going to burst and leave a lot of idle machinery.

143 Actually, no. They seem to think the government was behind it to ban guns. That's the weird part.

Something about Jared Loughner's attorney being photographed as a weeping parent at Newtown. Plus all the other James Tracy stuff.

That's why I asked if it was a Thing now, libs thinking the gov't faked Newtown, and Aurora too I guess, as part of a gun grab.
Posted by: BlueStateRepub at January 17, 2013 09:51 AM (7ObY1)

I hadn't heard that one. I've seen the Mossad did it and that this is connected to Aurora because both of their fathers were going to testify about LIBOR though.

Oh and Truman, I am real and everything. To be fair, I've been waiting for a chance to trot out that line and that was the perfect time.

144 What would it cost to put together a modern shop for the production of AR15s?

I actually seen a few articles about 3-d printing magazines with appropriate capacity for hunting. The 3-d printers are not quite as plug and play as some folks like to suggest. But they are much much closer than ever before. And there is a lot of support for them. In theory at least a lot of the plastic pieces could be replicated on 3-d printers. But the quality of the work may not be terribly consistent, at least not yet.

151 AtC,

I reached at point a few years ago, when some friends, I'll say it again. friends repeatedly told me how greedy and vile I was for not wanting to go along with some stupid progressive crackpot idea of the moment.

The thing that did it for me were the cheap, little smiles that crept on their faces, clearly a leg-tingling moment for them all, as they were engaging in their group bullying/shaming tactics.

Until that moment, I'd always thought we as Americans could have a rational discussion/argument. But, as has become a clear pattern recently when progs can't win a rational argument, they go straight to name-calling.

Annnnnnyway, from that moment on, I no longer worried about civility, unless in my business cuz I'm there to make a buck for my family not score points,

And I simply mock and make fun of their stupidity, still with logical points, but no longer with anything approaching respect.

Progtards hate mocking the worst - they're still so traumatized by high school they want to be part of the cool group. That's why John Stewart is so effective. He gives them the illusion of being cool.

so, I take that away.

152 112 Bigby's CP,

The Afghanis were making Aks by the end of Ivanfest there in hand powered machine shops.

If you were wanting to make "machined" ARs you're gonna need ~3 million bucks for the eqpt and the lawyer to navigate licensing of the stated purpose is commerce.

The bond for liability is huge,

Now you can get the ball rolling with 10% of that but if things get wobbly or you run into QC issues you are in quicksand.

There was a shop in Ohio called "Ohio Rapid Fire" that was a truly sad saga of a guy who worked himself to death trying to make whole on the economic leverage via debt and production orders,

http://ohiorapidfire.com/

Company is gone now all that equipment just lying fallow.

There are mixed reports of QC and craftsmanship on their gear when the biz was open.

I never bought any of their AKs almost bought a Tantal off him, and did buy one of my Enfields there that was traded long ago.

Guns are a field where the 'ever vigilant" EPA and BATF and Big Lawyer make sure we have difficulty being as profitable as we could.

Resolution on industrial 3-D printers is approaching .0005", IIRC. There is a wide variety of printers on the market, personal printers typically do .005", but mostly do plastic and resin.

Metal printed parts typically have to undergo another operation in an oven.

Actually, a decent 3-axis milling machine can be had for around $12k. Then, you'd need a vise and toolholders, and cutting tools, at least another $5K.

If it were up to me and I had the cash, I'd go with a good industrial printer for metal. Much more versatile.

There's also a guy up at MIT (where one of the grandaughters goes) who is working on high-precision 3-D printers for aerospace work.

Makes you wonder who actually came up with the plan in the first place.

Amazingly, the Egyptians to this day still believe that they won that war. An entire nation full of Baghdad Bobs.

If only the state of Israel were 10 times its size.

When I was stationed in Egypt back in 1990, I toured the Egyptian Military Museum in Cairo. Lots of dioramas of every Egyptian military defeat, with history placards telling of the great Egyptian military victories. *snerk*

The one that made me laugh out loud was the Malta hostage rescue in '85. The Egyptians managed to kill all the terrorists, but they also killed most of the hostages, either by hosing down the cabin with submachine gun fire or by blowing them up with explosives during their entry into the aircraft. In the diorama, lots of triumphant chest beating over killing the terrorists, but not a word about all the dead hostages.

213 "I'd even pay a dollar a box tax to put armed guards in schools."

I'd agree if:
a) The FedGov had any gorram business at all "protecting" local schools
b) The FedGov could be trusted to not turn schools into more prisonlike experience that they already are.
c) The FedGov could be trusted to implement it worth a crap it at all - see Armed Pilots
d)
The FedGov could be trusted to not simply send the money to the CDC,
Brady Campaign, MAIG, or the Muslim Brotherhood for that matter.
e) About a thousand other reasons

Picture the TSA doing security at your kid's school. You think it's bad now having them squeeze your wife's tits and grabbing your sack every time you want to get on a plane? Think about that and your kid going through it everyday.

214 Last nite I heard the ND Athletic Director's remarks about Manti, he got all choked uptalking about how the young man will "never be able to trust anyone again". That far surpassed my soap opera analogy, now we are into Lifetime TV/ Dr. Phil territory. This is what football leadership is reduced to...crying about trust issues ?

Which part of the civil rights movement is the question. The "talk a lot about non-violence" part or the "armed Negroes exercising their God-given right to defend their families by righteously bustin' a cap in drunken Democrat Klan assholes" part?

Somehow I think the modern leftists have forgotten about just how important armed Negroes were to the civil rights movement.

219 If somebody is looking for a reliable centerfire rifle, do not discount the good old 30/30 Winchester. I went out on ammo patrol the other day, and the first stop yielded 3 boxes of 30/30 at 16.95 a box. I bought them even though I didn't own a 30/30. The next stop got me 2 more boxes at about the same price. Stop 3, one more and a beat up but entirely serviceable Savage 340 bolt action for $160.00 out the door. A little steel wool, a little cold blue, and a little Tru Oil makes for a nice project. Less than 3 bills, a good old rifle and ammo. The reason I'm talking 30/30 is, there are a lot better cartridges, but none more prolific. Stop at a boonie gas station ( the ones with the fishing and hunting licences sold here sign) and there's a good chance of some 30/30 ammo laying around.

224 AP/ A lawyer in Germany claims surgeons left up to 16 objects in her 77-year-old client's body after a 2009 operation for prostate cancer. The surgery wounds never healed properly. Subsequently, doctors removed a needle, compresses and surgical strips
from retired banker Helmut Brecht. The hospital's response, no-fault because those items were "not used" and not in the hospital's inventory. Lame, to say the least. No excuse covers 16 objects inserted and left in a patient undergoing surgery.
***I tried finding anything beyond the article distributed and quoted above. For which bank had Herr Brecht been an employee? Did the bank have a poor reputation for corrupt financial manipulation? Did the surgical team know the banker and hold a grudge over their own loan increased interest rates or the devaluation of the Deutsche Mark? Was the banker a victim of eugenics and prejudiced agists -- anyone that old had to be a Nazi... Since nothing was mentioned, you've got to wonder who the heck was Helmut Brecht?
