Obama: Doctors Should Push Gun Control With Their Patients

Pretty much every federal-power grab will be justified from here on out by claiming it's important for

Teh Economy;

or Teh Human Health.

Those two categories cover a fair amount of ground -- one, every human being on earth, and two, in case that last one didn't capture enough territory, Earth.

All part of the global movement of transnational progressivism and its creed, We Know What's Best for You and We Are Courageous Enough to Impose It on You.

How many lives would be saved by killing everyone in the world? There would never be a murder again!

The formulation is absurd. Ban everything, put everyone in prison cells for life, and people would STILL DIE.

Not only is the number of lives saved by use of these "implements of destruction" higher than those taken, but the history of governments that disarm citizens indicates an even higher risk.

People who are so terrified that they become irrational *should* hide in the corner, and for Pete's sake don't vote!

I feel the need for some Velostat.

So, Obamacare mandates questions about guns from doctors during your "free" yearly visit. Little checkbox on the form.

Obamacare also federalizes and centralizes the nation's medical and mental health records in a single database. Another little checkbox in the database. Hell, we could even sort the records by it.

What are the chances of, say, a medical exam in which you express any mental health issue resulting in an early AM battering ram to your front door followed by a dozen bulletproof stormtroopers coming to enforce current federal law preventing the mentally ill from possessing any firearms? The person had both checkboxes, it was a justified raid.

And what are the chances of both of those two boxes being checked by accident, or by "accident." And who's to know if it was doone later to cover something up?

Goddamn this ObamAsshole has turned me into a conspiracy freak.

114 If my doctor asks me questions like that, I'm going to ask him how much training in firearms, firearm handling, maintenance and storage, home security, defense tactics, laws of self-defense, etc. he's had, and what certifications he holds. My guess is that my credentials in that area are better than his, as would most gun owners'.

And then I might ask him what his malpractice insurance carrier would say if they knew he was offering professional advice in areas involving deadly force in which he was unqualified.

The "if it saves one child" bullshit should be countered with "if it prevents one rape" and "if it prevents one domestic violence murder". Guns are inherently pro-woman; nothing in the world can come as close to equalizing men and woman as a gun and the knowledge of how to use it properly.

That's really kind of the uncomfortable truth about gun control---You do have to kind of choose between the scenario of crazy people getting guns and going off (which is mitigated, though not erased, by the presence of non-crazy people with guns and the knowledge to use them properly) and the scenario where pretty much every woman and every man who is elderly, disabled or small, is at the mercy of young, healthy men. In a country without guns (if that were even possible, which it's not), they're right, someone like Adam Lanza is a lot less of a threat. But in that gun-free country, a man like the crowbar-wielding thug we read about a few days ago is a MUCH bigger threat.

"Well, you might consider something for home defense. AR-15s are a little hard to come by right now but they serve nicely with 40gr hollowpoints. Failing that a pump shotgun with BB shot shows low penetration of common building material but very nice terminal ballistics at in-house ranges. I would suggest a box or two of Dead Coyote in BB shot size. Shotguns are easier to aim under pressure than handguns because there are three points of contact with your body and you can get two hands on the weapon. Handguns are always a decent choice, but if the woman in Georgia who shot her attacker five times with a .38 Special had used a shotgun, the carpet cleaning would have been her biggest problem, rather than a wounded and pissed-off bad guy and an empty gun. Pick a firearm you can practice with to the point that you're comfortable manipulating it in the dark, and always have a spare magazine if it's a semiautomatic as feed problems are the number one reason for stoppages in semi-autos. Caliber really isn't that important in a handgun as long as it's 9mm or better and you use good personal defense ammo, typically hollowpoints. Remember, you can't miss fast enough to win a gunfight, so practice, practice, practice.

Now, about your CT results..."

236 OT, but hilarious, and I have to share. My libtard Obamaphile neighbor is in the process of selling her house, and I drive up today and see there's a zoning variance sign in her yard.

Lo and behold, they built an addition to their house in 2006, 1) without a permit, 2) not using a licensed contractor, and 3) too close to the property line. So, Mrs. Jakeman and I are pissing ourselves laughing at what hypocrites they are, having starved Big Brother of his 1) permitting fees and 2) property taxes for the past 7 years, and now they have to grovel for a 4-foot variance. And then the kicker is, they put the note about the zoning hearing--illegally--in our mailbox, no US postage stamp required.

Am I evil for wanting the book to get thrown at them, like back taxes and penalties and stuff? Either way, I am bathing in the sweet, sweet tears of schadenfreude.

My own personal experiences on docs, as I have gotten older, I find that they don't listen & they don't take no for an answer. I haven't seen one in years. I know I shd go but this gun thing is just one more piece of crap I don't want to deal with.

Posted by: ontherocks at January 16, 2013 08:23 PM (aZ6ew)

281 The M1911 was a 33% upgrade in ammo capacity and a hell of a lot easier to reload at a gallop than the revolvers they were using at the time. Not only that but the .45 ACP was pretty comparable to the old .45 LC loads used in the Peacemakers they had to dig out when the .38 Specials weren't getting the job done on the Moros in the Philippines.

Set up properly, the 1911 is a fine gun with the best trigger pull on any service pistol. The Glock doesn't really need to be set up, the trigger is good enough and it's a third the cost of a tuned 1911 and will digest pretty much whatever you want to feed it in the appropriate caliber. Clean it every few years whether it needs it or not and it's ready to go.

I believe accurate Sig .45 stories. The P220 has the reputation of being the most accurate DA/SA .45 ACP out of the box. I'm happy with mine. Sig just announced a P227, a double-stack P220. It may come down to that or the FN45 Tactical for me...after I get the Glock 21. I have huge hands and the Glock 21/20 are sized just right for me. Most handguns are too small for me to shoot with the pad of my trigger finger, I end up using the first joint which does not help my accuracy much.

My Sig P229 did jam on me several times, of course during an IDPA match. I finally tracked it down to some Seiller Bellot .40 SW ammo that I think was probably out of spec in some dimension, I could jam the slide closed and get back to work but it was annoying to say the least. The Glock 22 ate the rest of it with fewer complaints, but that has put me off of SB ammo ever since.

The next step will be attempting to force Christian clerics to marry gays, nevermind that it goes against their religious and personal convictions. It won't be enough that Rev. I started with the Benelli Nova Tactical instead of the Maverick. TacStar mag extension, Weaver rail, Primary Arms red dot, 4-round sidesaddle carrier and a flashlight up front. Put a sling on it too, mainly for lifting it out of the gun safe but retention is always good. Having 7+4+1 on the gun and a 200-lumen flashlight may make me a "Mall Ninja" but it also makes me able to see what I am about to destroy should the need arise. I hope it doesn't, but there's nothing quite like a 12 gauge for close-range encounters of the violent kind.

If I had it to do over again I would probably go with the 870 Tactical as a base, there's a bigger ecosystem of accessories around the 870 than any other shotgun. The Mossberg 500/590 is close. Does the Maverick 88 take Mossberg accessories?

Yes it does. The Security 88 has an 8 round magazine (using shorter shells, 7 round with 3") plus one in the pipe. I'm starting with it because I already own it.

The mall ninja comment was just me being a wiseass, I'm really just doing it for two reasons: to frighten and annoy the gun grabbers, and to make it a little more versatile. And just because, which is a pretty darn good reason all by itself. I have the Franchi if I want a pretty gun.

Posted by: GGE of the Moron Horde, NC Chapter at January 16, 2013 08:50 PM (yh0zB)

324 Very late to the thread but I'll throw in anyway - we were sent a letter today via email by telling us that HIPPA rules do not apply if a doctor suspects that a patient may be a harm to themselves or others. The doctor has a moral and ethical duty to report such suspicions to law enforcement, relatives, etc.

So be on notice - you tell your doctor that you are a gun owner, and said doctor is 'anti-gun' he/she can report you and justify it by saying that they believed that you may be a threat for whatever reason. Choose your physicians wisely.

325 So I read today that the Newtown police will not have an official report on the Sandy Hook shootings until March. So why would the government try and make up a bunch of new laws to prevent something that we really have no information about?

My favorite thing out here is to watch liberal types up for code violation for cutting down a tree on their property. They think they've done all the right things by replacing it, but they haven't gotten the permit and had it approved by the Urban Forester. Not only do they fine you, they charge you replacement costs for the tree. This can get interesting, if they cut down a large Doug Fir as those trees are not cheap at the nursery.

You know, P220s have always had a rep for locking up while shooting 185g semiwadcutters.

Glocks are supposedly suseptible to limp-wristing. Pre-Mark II HiPowers won't feed hollow points. CZ75s tend to break springs if they aren't replaced annually. PPKs bite shooters' hands when firing. Etc, etc.

All pistols have weaknesses. All pistols are compromises.

328 The Tarasoff doctrine has been in effect for decades, it comes from a psychiatrist in California who had a patient that expressed a specific plan to kill a young lady named Tarasoff (former girlfriend). The psychiatrist did not inform Tarasoff of this and after she was murdered the Tarasoff family sued and won. The doctor tried to use physician-patient confidentiality as a defense and lost. Ever since, if a patient is a clear danger to someone else there is a duty to warn any intended victim of the danger they are in.

I'm a radiologist, this really doesn't affect me day-to-day, I don't see personally 90%+ of the people whose scans I read. But I imagine a) the Feds will seek to use the Tarasoff case and subsequent Mass Public Shootings as a lever to crack open HIPPA, or at least remove the penalties to a physician for a good-faith violation of physician-patient confidentiality and b) the ACLU will chime in and try to stop this as much as possible. When Laurie Dann went off in Illinois in 1988 and shot/poisoned/firebombed a bunch of people after years of psychotherapy and psychotic behavior all they could talk about was the danger of confinement for mental reasons. If we're lucky we can pop some popcorn and watch the left eat itself for a while over this while DiFi's gun ban gathers dust.

This is a real slippery slope because once the HIPPA violations are set aside the Obama-types may come after physicians for NOT turning in any future mass public shooters. MPS assholes are easy to identify in retrospect but prospectively most of them are sociopaths with really good lying skills. Now that they KNOW a psychiatrist might report them the chances of them telling anyone anything before they go off is pretty low.

I'm not primary care but adding to the list of required questions in a HP is not likely to make them happy. There will certainly be some self-righteous bastard (or bitch) that reports someone who has a firearm as a danger when they are not, and I hope they get sued to the limits of their malpractice policy and beyond when they do. This is not an issue the majority of physicians want to get involved in, IMO.
