"Conservative Democrat" Joe Manchin, Who Won in WV Due to His Supposedly Pro-2nd Amendment Stance: "Everything is on the table" with Respect to Gun Control

How many f'n' times are voters going to fall for this trick?

And more to the point, I guess: At what point is the RNC going to be running ads featuring previous supposed "conservative Democrats" showing how each in turn flipped to the liberal side on ObamaCare (and the abortion mandates), guns, etc.?

Sen. Joe Manchin, who once shot a copy of the cap-and-trade bill through with a rifle in a campaign ad to prove his down-home bona fides, is apparently looking to change that. In the month since Newtown, Manchin has been pro-gun control, then back to pro-gun, then at a No Labels event, presumably because his opportunistic flip-flopping defies ideological classification.

On Andrea Tantaros’ radio show Monday, he was back to more aggressive talk on gun control:

“Do you think there should be more gun control laws?” Tantaros asked Manchin directly.

Manchin responded, “I believe that you have to have an approach, to where everything is on the table. Now, when you say ‘gun control,’ I just don’t think it’s a one-issue problem. That’s why people keep talking about that, and people keep wanting to say ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ ‘are you for this or against it?’ We’re in an environment in Washington where your guilty by conversation.”

I doubt that. This guy was just elected as a Senator, so not only can he cum in the mouth of every West Virginia voter, he can continuously shit on them for at least 4 years.

With the short memory spans, he can spend his last two years in this term becoming more conservative and get reelected in a landslide.

Our system is designed for a moral people. It will suit no other.

There is no longer a common morality, only unchecked selfishness fed by an individualistic mantra shouted out by a collectivist culture.

The nascent totalitarians are fine for you to be "individualistic" when you are drugging yourself into oblivion, wasting your sexually productive years on emotionless random sex (or internet pron), or conforming to their overarching message of dependency and nihilism.

Otherwise you are a pariah and a reactionary, and you will eventually be dealt with. Trying to build a strong family unit? Fuck that. You're both going to work to death for shiny boxes of shit you don't really need. Have more than 2 kids? Weirdo fundie. try to educate them properly, even if that means at home? SCAAARRYYYY! Disapprove of sexual deviancy? Prude/fascist!

Guess what, it's gonna burn, because this structure is rotten to the foundation.

He made the pledge in a Monday letter to Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., where he also promised to support government-paid abortions for military women in cases of rape and incest and to improve sexual assault prevention programs ordered by Congress.

95 I want a divorce. When does Texas secede? Will other states vote to see if they want to join Texas or stay with the looters? Will we have to wait until our state is touching the new Republic of Texas to vote whether to join them? If we live in a state with a *spit* mass of urban looters can we divide the state? or must we overwhelm them at the polls or apply to emigrate to the NRT?

124 Leaving aside the fact he's a typical slimeball politician, there's another thing that bugs me about his statements.

It has to do with his "I own guns but I don't own these eeevil black guns." or whatever words to that effect. It's the go-to fallback answer for Fudds and chickenshit politicians nationwide and I'm long past fucking tired of it

No offense to anyone on this site but if you shoot skeet a couple times a year, hunt deer once a year, or have a revolver in your sock drawer that you haven't cleaned since the first Clinton term, you have as much authority to opine for new gun laws as a fucking glass of water. You are a tiny percentage of the overall gun culture in this country. I have friends who own only one gun; a bolt action rifle for deer hunting. I also have friends who own a shitload of different types of guns who also happen to hunt. I KNOW who I would call if the SHTF and it's not Elmer down the road with his .270. This whole "Fudd" mentalitiy has been a constant drag on the fight for gun rights in this country for decades. They were one of the reasons we got fucked over with Brady and the AWB.

Just because your favorite over/under shotgun or Daddy's .38 isn't on the table at the moment doesn't make you a fucking 2nd Amendment expert any more than having an old guitar in your closet from your college days makes you a part of the current rock and roll scene.

Blue staters simply need a more structured society. They long for a government that takes a deep interest in their well being, along with regulating certain aspects of their lives so that they live healthier, happier lives.

There might come a time when Red staters, in the spirit of helpfulness and comity, help the governments of the Blue states by taking all of the hard decision making duties away from them. With the proper leadership, Blue state populations could be useful and happy in their work. We could protect them from harm by outsiders and from themselves.

All it takes is the will to help our fellow man.

You're right, though. There's a lot of foreign despots out there that are drooling over our downfall. And DC wants to take our guns. HA!

Posted by: Soona at January 15, 2013 04:09 PM (OSRET)

--The worst part is that it's not just foreigners. Plenty of Americans think it was a tragedy or error of history that America became the hegemon. It's a perverted sense of fairness or ignorance that the world would be just fine regardless of who is king of the mountain.

176 "Hey manchin your nuts are on the table. Happy retirement."

Well, Manchin will be in DC until death or retirement, but he's not going to get voted out by the WV electorate. These are the same people who sent Robert "Grand Dragon" Byrd back to the Senate over and over again.

It's all about pork, and seniority. Voting out Manchin would reset the seniority clock and would reduce the new Senator's ability to deliver pork to West Virginia.

Pork is, as previously noted, the most addictive drug known to humanity.

Tell me something I DON'T know, Einstein. It's that "free-stuff army" that Obama marshalled to beat me so handily. I mean, I know that the electoral votes are based on population and that the greater densities are in -- you guessed it! -- the big cities, where the "free-stuff army" is housed. I can't believe people were outraged at my rich-boy comments to rich guys. I was merely speaking what everybody already knew and Obama was able to sell it BEYOND the free-stuff army to the rest of the people. Well, not people, exactly. More like sheep, 'f ya ask me. Anyway, thanks to all my supporters, especially the droppings out of the pig's ass on this list and others too numerous to mention. Thanks for your support, your inefficacy, your irrrelvance, your lies and your bluster. It's really doing wonders for the country - keep up the .... um ... work. Consider your efforts as a job .... .... done.

Exactly. Pennsylvania has been described as "Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between".

I live in a light blue suburban county that has gone for TFG twice. Arrggh.

193 Why don't we just start calling a spade a spade and call Democrats what they really are: Communists.

There is power in branding. Witness how the left has pretty successfully damaged/destroyed the Republican brand. Why not do the same to them? Call them what they demonstrably are. What the fuck do you think "Spreading the Wealth" means anyway. It's as communist as it gets. It's straight from Karl Marx's mouth.

Remember when Reagan called the Soviets the Evil Empire? Everyone derided him for it but it was effective. Even the Soviets admitted that.

Democrats are Communists.
Make them own it. Make them defend it.

194 didn't Ace suggest that he was cool with pushing for more background checks?

i'm just trying to find where the official RINO line is here

obviously i'm not a fan of the Bloombrain "only cops have guns" mentality but after Connecticut when certain conservative commentators went all "there's nothing we can do" (OK, caricature, but one literally said that) it just seems lazy, even though it's true to an extent

Posted by: JDP at January 15, 2013 04:52 PM (60GaT)

195 Democrats are liberals, liberalism can be criticized on its own terms.

if "spreading the wealth" is automatically Communist that would mean every place with a progressive income tax is Communist

Well. Cuomo is signing this travesty of legislation, flaws and all.

This may work out ok, if they don't change anything, in respect to the legal challenge that will be mounted. Just have to see where it goes.

But you should understand that he created a massive number of criminals with the stroke of a pen.

As far as I can see, and I may be dead wrong, it looks like all obama
will do tomorrow is re-arranging the deck chairs on already enacted gun
control laws and checks already on the books. For anything "serious" he
still has to go to Congress. Anyone want to comment on that? I am not a
real expert on these things

199 198 Mr moo Moo,

This is the administration that ignored the courts on issuing drilling permits for offshore for how long?

In essence what they can/likely will try to do is enforce an interpretation of existing "law' so strict and/or onerous they will have defacto altered the law beyond recognition.

I'd lay money on it.

I'm inclined to agree that he is right about that
