NRA Ratings by Congressional District
For the most part they're about what you'd expect but it is interesting how nearly every Southern states has at least a few districts with NRA F-rated congressmen while the west has most of the full-state A-ratings.

Not your fault. Europe has been living under everyone else's protective umbrella for so long, they think they don't have to do anything. Canada carries more of its weight than the rest of the European members of NATO.
One of my Canadian friends used to joke that Canada's navy just consisted of ships that brought beer to the US Navy ships, and Canada's navy is almost as powerful as Britain's. Very sad.

They say 112th was a bad congress because of the lack of laws passed. I would say that is a good thing. The less congress does the better. It is the regulators that one need worry about. one page of law is 80 new regulations. Sure they can't ban guns and bullets but they can ban gun oil and other lubricants under the EPA regulation. They could ban by federal law all outdoor gun ranges under the endangered species act and noise affects some bird.

I have only incidental knowedge of anything hollywood and I know she had a schnoz like jimmy durante before she had rhinoplasty. she is not so much cute as bland, she had anything that might remotely be construed as interesting replaced with highly inoffensive and entirely forgettable.

Quick some one look in a 1872 law from congress that makes Obamacare
invalid. There has to be some law that no one bothered reside and is
fully valid. It would take 50 years to read all the laws that where

They say 112th was a bad congress
because of the lack of laws passed. I would say that is a good thing.
The less congress does the better. It is the regulators that one need
worry about. one page of law is 80 new regulations. Sure they can't ban
guns and bullets but they can ban gun oil and other lubricants under the
EPA regulation. They could ban by federal law all outdoor gun ranges
under the endangered species act and noise affects some bird.

It should have been in the original constitution that each year, congress could pass 1000 pages of legislation......less 2 pages per year elapsed from the founding. It's not like there is anything new about human nature every year, and all the better laws should have been passed already -- so anything beyond the limit is likely dreck, anyway.

People's Choice, actors guild, blah, blah, blah. Then they just started having fewer and there was discussion about the fact that fewer people were watching the major ones.
You'd think that the people in the entertainment industry would get the message that many of us have no interest in watching a bunch of preening, self-important, shallow, narcissists.
What percentage of tv viewers would be able to name which movie got the academy award for best movie last year? Best actor? The fact is almost no one gives a shit.
Oh, and I'm still laughing about "Titanic", with its idiotic script, and the spectacle of the little waif Leonardo banging the buxom Kate, getting best movie.

Find a reason to have a slab of concrete somewhere on your property (base for a statue, foundation for a shed, AC compressor, etc.); use lots o' rebar; bury under back corner. Also, some places used cast iron sewer lines -- you can bet those pups have a heckuva "shadow" to hide things.

There is a reason why the awards shows are shown in January, it used to be the "dead period" of television. Nowadays the networks "protect" the awards shows by not programming any new shows at the same time because you know that if the NFL scheduled one of the games for tonight, the Golden Globes would have fewer viewers than "Extreme Couponing".

I would like to cancel HBO but I like Showtime's series. I would like to get rid of Starz, and other channels but they put them in groups. If I canceled the sports package I would lose TCM and others I watch occasionally.
Comcast blocks conservative email, I had to fight with some man a few years ago to get most of what I want. I have to rescue the WSJ occasionally from spam on the mail website. Others never show up anywhere. I get them at the office and forward here.

Kim is doing a lot better today. Her 'new' fever is still coming and going, but everything else measurable is good. She is finally breathing assisted by the ventilator, and there is talk that they may try getting her completely off of it tomorrow.
I saw a quick glimpse of A & B this morning, they were all snuggled up with each other waiting for the 'camera' showing off their heart beats.
We have a long road ahead of us, but things have progressed very well over the weekend, thank you all for your continued prayers and well wishes.

underemployment by my former professional standards, keeping 5 threads open at once, being able to read red Storm rising in volume in an evening.

It got pretty bad this year around election time.
We found out we are going to be moving this fall so I had to readjust some of my work plans, and reduce my stick time to have more time to get the boy to focus on his education.
He is a bright kid in reading comprehension, and anime studies.
Sadly like my favorite OW$ punching bag I don't think there is a lot of career opportunity in anime studies.
He also wants to learn either carpentry or diesel mechanics.
If he is to go to Vocational tech wherever wife is stationed it is vital he be on grade level in math so he can focus on his trade.
Thus if I skip a little housework(far too easy), work a few fewer days(which drives me up the wall), and skip the two a days on the treadmill9sadly a necessity the last three months with the cyst I am fighting in my back) I have far too much time to post inanity.

I have Drudge and WSJ open in addition to this site. WSJ has live blogging at the Globes! I would cancel my subscription but I read it on someone's iPad in 2010 and the PW and account name stayed. It's been there for almost three years and two iPads later Everyone knows how things are, if one has something, someone else wants it. I can't cancel the subscription now. I wish The WSJ would drop Rove's Thursdays's editorial, he too is insignificant now.

God that sucks. I was in Lamar Smith's A rating district last time, and now I'm in Lloyd Dogget's F rated district. I can see Austin from where I am but I'm not in it. I'm even in a different county than Austin. I was robbed.
On the plus side, I got to try out the M2 at the farm today with my son. We were using it to clear cedar ( well the less than a few inch diameter ones anyway) LOTs of fun. I HATE cedar. He got to shoot his EBR for the first time as well. Big smiles were had by all. Farm is in an A rated district, I think I'll move there soon.

One guy, in his fifties, who has become hard of hearing has tried to get on but was turned down. His doctor wouldn't play along. I've been around him a lot. He wears a hearing aid, and whatever hearing loss he has doesn't seem to affect his ability to carry on a conversation at all.

That's interesting...and I *am* really torn. I have machinists in the family and have been sorely tempted to finish a private weapon, but I know that BATF frowns on it and since wife is active duty if I were to use a miltary range or during one of commands' "getting to know(spy) on you" visits on or off post deciding I had an evil weapon I have not done so.
I am sincere in encouraging EVERYONE to follow the law to the letter and I mean local, and state as well.
Arguably from an ethical standpoint I am more serious about following local law than federal.
The feds are way too involved.
Follow it all but be friendly to your local politicians on the matter because in the end they are the ones who if things go wrong will have some measure of power.

Ty Cobb was a huge dick - and he's normally ranked among one of the top 5 players of all time. It would be nice if there was a correlation between talent and decency - but there isn't, not in any field.
I used to work with a cardiologist I absolutely hated. Arrogant bastard, got into trouble a couple of times for sexually harassing nurses. I couldn't stand the guy - but if my ticker gave out, he was the guy I wanted them to call. He was a complete SOB, but he was the best cardiologist on staff by a long shot.

If they're really upgrading the interior from rental care grade to something fitting for the price range, that would be welcome.
I'll wait to see how it tests on Top Gear before speculating any further. Clarkson and Hammond both like the Corvette in spite of it's flimsiness because it's "good cheap fun". If they're trying to compete with the supercars, Clarkson especially will pronounce it to be "pretentious rubbish".
50 grand to over 100 grand leaves a lot of leeway with options. The 50K version would be a lesser engine with the rental car interiors I would imagine, the better quality would be for those laying out the Lamborghini money.

I went up to some games back in 89 right before he got banned, and I was talking with some guys at the game, and they said everyone loved Pete the player but hated Pete the man. I never watched Dexter until the past month or so. I love Homeland and had Showtime on before it started and thought it looked like something I would like. I watched all seven seasons on demand in the past month.
My brother wants FIOS but it's not available here six miles north of Boston. City next to me has it in some areas. I think they don't want it here.

I don't want to buy DVDs because I did that once and it cost around $100f for all previous seasons of Rescue Me. I watched once, I started watching that in 2009, I had years to catch up on. Now all are available on Comcast on demand.
From what I have heard, Comcast vs Verizon is comparing six of one and half dozen of the other. Nothing is perfect.

I heard some of the explanation as to why they didn't get anyone for the HOF this time is because of all the players from the "steroid era" being up for it and so the sportswriters are still pissed at those guys. So they might eventually get in, just not any time soon.

I will only buy stick shift cars. I always go by the sound alone. Unfortunatly, my car is one of those that tried to tell you when to shift. The problem is that I will keep it in lower gears in order to properly accelerate, even though the d**n gage us telling me do upshift.
I like the control over the car, and the ability to accelerate beyond what a automatic would allow me with a similar engine.
Of course, many of the 20-something "children" probably still have Mommy driving them around...

When I bought my latest car, there were 14 stick-shift EX Accord wagons in the state.of California. I visited, IIRC, five of them before getting a good deal on a sixth. If you change lanes and lug the engine with a manual in front of a semi, you screwed up -- same scenario with an automatic, you never had a chance.

Schott wanted the game to resume even though the players and ump crew were both very shaken up. Larkin particularly said he couldn't go back on the field in good conscience

Europeans and Brits still have a high percentage of manual gearboxes in their cars. If you're going to spend a lot of time in LA type traffic, stick with the automatic transmission. If you're going to take it out on the mountain roads, stick shift is the only way to go.
I used to think that traction control was for wusses, but a few have told me that with the power some of these higher end sedans put out, ESC keeps the car from killing you.

A kid down the street got a BMW M3 for his birthday a few years ago, and he came over to ask me if I could teach him how to drive a stick. Could not believe he was given a car he couldn't drive, but last year he got into big trouble. His dad died a couple of years ago, and he would come up here during breaks in school and get drunk with his "boys". One night at 3am, they decided our neighborhood would make a nice place to have a drag strip. MrsC was not amused and almost made me call the police, but she decided not to. A little while later we noticed some flashing lights, and lo and behold, the cops had busted him. He blew a .18, and got a free night in the Greybar Hotel. Needless to say, his mother made him sell his dad's house (they were divorced) and go back to school.
If cars keep going towards electric motors and the other stuff they have now, when the zombie apocalypse happens, all the manual transmission vehicles will be ripe for the picking for all of us who learned how to drive them.

Yeah, I don't like steroids one bit, but journalists getting on a moral high horse, that's a bit rich. As for some era when baseball was "pure" - really, when would that be? I love Hank Aaron. If you ever saw the man interviewed, he's the epitome of class. And yet, old Hammerin' Hank has admitted to popping uppers back in the day. "Greenies" were used in the '60's and '70's (I would imagine players used uppers to get through a 162 game season as much as for any edge on the field. From April through September they're spending a lot of time hopping planes and living out of suitcases.) In the '80's, a lot of coke was used.
Was baseball purer in the days when spitballs were legal and corked bats were common?
I love baseball (it's heresy for a cheesehead but I love it more than any other sport) , but the idea that once upon a time it was pure and baseball players were noble, instead of guys who would take advantage of anything that would give them a competitive edge, is a pretty shaky one.

At my college's Homecoming this past fall, MrsC and I were walking around with one of my friends who now works at the school. We were talking about all the construction that happened in the last 10 years, especially to the athletic facilities. We then walked by "Ty Cobb Ballpark". I was kind of confused and asked WTF Ty Cobb ever had to do with Hampden-Sydney, the guy laughed and said "nothing", his granddaughter donated the money to build the stadium and that is what she wanted it called.

The team had the rule in place forever, not just when she was there, and the Reds only stopped paying top dollar for players when she took over the team. She was fucking cheap, to put it mildly. When Eric Davis lacerated his liver trying to make a catch in Game 4 of the World Series in 90, she wouldn't pay to fly him home in a private plane. He had to be kept in a stretcher, so he couldn't fly back commercially.
I still remember being at a game in 92 when she took that fucking St Bernard out onto the field and it took a dump right on the Riverfront plastic grass.
IIRC, didn't she have some of the elephants from the Cincy Zoo in the stadium one Opening Day, and a couple of the elephants took dumps on the plastic grass?

Cobb was a SOB - but no dumb jock. He did product endorsements for Coca-Cola back in the early 1900's and ended up owning an awful lot of stock in the company. So he was a very rich man when he died - at a time when baseball players didn't make the fortunes they do today. I would imagine that his grandkids have benefited from the old bastard's financial savvy.

What you need more than anything right now is to put one foot in front of the other. I know that's easier to say than to do.
I had a miserable three-year job search where I sustained myself borrowing and with temp jobs, lived above a garage, and every so often stretched canned food and rice an awful long time.
But here I am... wait, bad example. You'll do better than that.

Strangely not that bad outside. I wore shorts this afternoon when I took a bunch of recycling over to the local supermarket, then made a Costco run. I do it as much to annoy people as for my own comfort.
I still have to keep the vent to my room closed so as to not be roasted by the level the mother and sister keep the heating at. I suspect they're becoming lizards in their old age.

Get fired, don't quit. Even if they fire you for cause, they will have to have their ducks in order to keep you from collecting funemployment.
At a fundamental level, the state UE agent will be on the employee's side. So if the company doesn't have documented proof that they gave you an employee manual, that said manual has clear guidelines on how they go about separating poor employees, and then have a steady written set of escalating steps they took to get you back into conformance, then...you win and get to collect UE.

Apple reportedly sent word to suppliers in December that it would be
reducing parts orders for the recently released iPhone 5 on "weaker-than-expected" demand, with some orders being cut in half from original expectations.
I know why.
I got an Apple G3 about two years ago and thought it it was great. The thing sucks now. Apps open by themselves. Itunes starts playing spontaneously. I can't browse from locations I could when it was new. Upgrading some apps require 5,000 word agreements that could require my first born child. The speaker phone function died.
Why would I want to by a new $200 iphone that's gonna shit the bed as soon as the warranty expires?
I definitely want something else but I'm wondering if I'm gonna lose the 1,000+ songs I've got. Apple has really pissed me off with the first product or theirs I bought.

Ok, I suppose. I didn't see much of it because I was so wiped when I got a day off from work I had no energy to look at much of the show floor beyond the Sands CC. I never got to the LVCC until Friday when we had to pull our equipment out of the Lenovo tent before headed home. I didn't learn about the new 10 Gbps speed for USB 3.0 until today, for example. I cashed the funemployment checks while I tried to figure an honorable way forward. I could pay protection to the Chicago mafia, go with the Green program that violates the laws of physics, register with the IRS to betray my clients' interests, or prostitute myself to say that crap was gold in finance.
Oddly enough, I haven't seen much opportunity of late.

As to your Morgan/Loesch discussion, I find them both in error. The common writing of a caliber designation is incorrect mathematically. A caliber is defined as one-hundredth of an inch. Thus .223 caliber would correctly be .00223 of an inch, a size of which even Senartress Feinstein might approve. The mathematically correct designation should be 22.3 caliber, or on Mr. Morgan's planet, 23.3.
