How To Talk About Gawker Without Linking Gawker

Gawker, a meritless hit-whoring hype site written by, and written for, the dim and the malignant, decided they weren't getting enough attention and published another list of legal gun owners, these located in Manhattan. (The last attention-shriek by the small no-account newspaper published names and addresses of those in Westchester County.)

Ann Althouse links the story without linking Gawker, instead linking the Daily Mail talking about Gawker's latest calculated attention-seeking outrage.

Which is, as Instapundit says, the right way to do it.

The list of people who are quite certain they are worthy of your attention grows daily.

For God's sake, Gawker isn't even original about it. They just do the same damn thing someone did last week, and try to dress it up as novel.

I have an idea: Sites that do this, that do nothing but Search Engine Optimization sort of crap, should just implement a fully automated system, no human thinking involved. Why be dishonest about things? Just straight up take human thought officially out of the process. At least then we'll have a computer to blame, and we'll be spared of having to feel embarrassed for a human.

54 You know, someone said 'Hey, why don't we publish a list of names and addresses of people on welfare?'Isn't that just as much of a public record?
I've kinda come around to thinking that would be a pretty good idea after all. Include the WiC program, Food stamps, and all other direct government assistance. Especially higher education assistance and grants.
The justification would be that it would enlist the general public to help police the rampant fraud in the programs. In my own case, after I bought my current house, I got several denial letters addressed to the prior occupants turning down assistance. They were certainly not poor, yet they still applied for handout programs. (I also got periodic mailings from overseas jewlers and custom tailors.)
Someone on 'The Hill' was yacking that gun owners 'voluntarily' gave their personal info to the government, so that meant they could do whatever they wanted with it. Wouldn't that 'logic' hold true for people 'voluntarily' signing up for handouts?
If taxpayers could identify who in their neighborhood was getting handouts that obviously didn't need it (racetrack and stripclub ATMs anyone?) perhaps we could get a handle on the out of control entitlement spending. The Left is always going on about de-stigmatizing assistance, what better way to do that than to identify all the people who've fallen on hard times and need some help?

This is what pisses me off about the left, there is no sanctuary from their asininity. They inject their idiot worldview into every aspect of life. Thats why we have sports and video game blogs saturated with boring knee jerk leftist assumptions. That is the thing we need to change, we have to end their control of the culture at large.

Oh, lord. Vic yesterday was talking about the boner Ann-Margret gave him during Viva Las Vegas. I got one watching Kirstie Alley in that Starfleet uniform. Hoo boy. Hawt. Kinley Ardal. Kirk saw the Prime Directive more as a suggestion. ISS Kirk, would phaser anyone for even thinking of inventing the concept.

Plummer loved the role of Change and ate the scenery as well as Shatner. And McCoy and Spock invented the heat seeking photon torpedo.

247 It was discussed here last night, http://minx.cc/?post=336404.

On the site, right next to the article is another article talking about how they were threatened and how they assume it was because of the gun list.

I'm not a gun owner but they seemed to be happy to list hannity among the owners. On and off I've listened to the guy over the years. He's never hidden the fact that he has a gun and he's never encouraged anyone else to go out and buy one. I've listened to the way he phrases things. He tells people to go try one out and that you need oodles of training to have a firearm. He seems to take it very seriously, very seriously.

Anyway, the point I'm getting to is that the handful of gun owners I've know personally were/are hunters or law enforcement. They too take/took gun possession very seriously, very seriously.

They all weren't the type of people to walk around saying "hey look at my gun, it's out on the coffee table". For the most part it was in a locked box of some kind, inside another locked box, inside a safe that was locked, behind a closet door, that you guessed it, was locked and in the basement.

What is more concerning is the threats they received. Journalists, even internet tabloid ones, should be able to publish whatever they want, freely, without being threatened. If you don't like what they published our remedy for that is our court system, not a threat. This is not the first time I've read about someone being threatened. To me it is very concerning.
