Obama/Biden Looking to Get Media On Board the Gun-Control Bandwagon

Erika Johnson has a theory I like.

Quoting Reuters:

Biden’s task force is examining legislation that would ban assault rifles, but is also looking at the role of violent movies and videogames in mass shootings and whether there is adequate access to mental health services.

Biden and his task force are slated to hold meeting this week with victims of gun violence, gun safety groups, hunting groups, and gun owners, White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.

“His group will also meet with representatives of the entertainment and video-game industries,” Carney said.

Allah's theory? They're floating this notion, that they just might come cracking down on Hollywood and Silicon Valley (is that a thing anymore?), in order to mau-mau them into giving them lots of media support for their gun-banning agenda.

In any case of a lunatic killing people with guns to live out his power fantasies, the fantasy industry blames the gun industry and the gun industry blames the fantasy industry. It's hardly a surprise that Obama will side with the fantasy industry, as he likes them and hates gun owners.

The only knock against the theory is that these people were almost all on Obama's side in the first place.

I suppose we'll have some minor new thing, some more ratings or whatnot, and an agreement in the entertainment industry for "voluntary" restraint (and any restraint which is exercised to head off the implied threat of actual censorship isn't voluntary, by the way).

This will be a fig leaf. Obama seeks to take away Americans' rights and will sell the idea that he is a man of moderation by also taking away some rights to free expression. See? A "balanced approach."

More: I speculated yesterday that NBC is already fishing in troubled waters -- trying to get CBS roughed up by the government for its violent programming, and thus to better position itself to finally move out of fourth place.

Given that Obama's talking this way, I think my speculation is reasonable.

Guns are more popular than Obama.

And every sane person knows guns are not to blame for the acts of madmen. In the last several years, there have been numerous knife attacks at Chinese schools, even preschools. In two incidents, 8 and 7 children were murdered.

This is all smoke and mirrors.

The reason we got TV ratings, the establishment of the ESRB, and the assault weapons ban (and the idea of "assault weapons") at the exact same time is because this D.C./L.A. exchange has happened before.

You guys remember Michael Moriarty? Hollywood doesn't.

"bullshit reporter, I understand you and your network are for the liberal cause of gun control and taking Americans firearms, but that position doesn't make sense and here is why..."

I mean did you see that AP article that gun buyers weren't as interested in Colorado or CT (the sites obviously of the two recent tragedies - implying by headline that perhaps people who lived in states of tragedies did not want to buy guns)? Just because TN buyers have been higher in the last month.

Gun sales and background checks ARE THROUGH THE ROOF in CO and CT.

"In any case of a lunatic killing people with guns to live out his power fantasies, the fantasy industry blames the gun industry and the gun industry blames the fantasy industry. It's hardly a surprise that Obama will side with the fantasy industry, as he likes them and hates gun owners."

The fantasy industry made Obama what he is.

If you don't see the GOP screaming their asses off about attacks on the 2nd Amendment Rights in unison, and very soon, then I'll take that as [PROOF POSITIVE/b] that they are statist central planners first, and opposition party a [very/i] distant second.

And no more whining about the MFM.
They have a majority on this one, and this is THE fucking hill that they've supposedly been saving their chits for.

Otherwise, me and several million other Americans will find our own hill.

from the link...

The White House on Tuesday afternoon reached out to major
philanthropic foundations not typically associated with gun control to
gauge how much they are willing to get involved...

The call, which featured Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen
Sebelius, Jonathan Greenblatt, the director of the White House Office
of Social Innovation and Civic Participation....

“There’s only one reason why you get a bunch of deep-pocketed funders
on the phone,” the participant said. “It’s not because they’re great
dancers. It’s because at the end of the day you need to tap into them
for something.”

84 One of the first news blurbs about the Biden task force described how the police indicated that untreated mentally ill are a big part of the problem.

A gun database of the mentally ill would not have prevented the AZ, CO or Sandy Hook shootings because none of the shooters were yet in the mental health system. Not one of them had an official diagnosis.

Again, this goes back to personal responsibility. Someone in the sphere of those sick young men needed to intervene before the violence occurred. Maybe it's not necessarily a gun problem but a "Pull your head out of your ass and do something" problem.

I want justice in 2013. The trial begins in June and we want Trayvon’s murderer held accountable for what he did. This was a murder. This was not a case of Stand Your Ground or self-defense. One of the things Tracy [Trayvon’s father] and I have done is take a negative and make it positive. We want to try and engage the political process with the Change for Trayvon campaign to encourage people around the country to get involved and vote to help revise these Stand Your Ground laws. I have always been a faithful person who firmly believed in God so I know that my strength in the past few months didn’t from me. It came from God. 90 I'm in the camp that neither Obama nor congress will do shit about guns. They'll enact some feel good legislation and/or EOs related to background checks and **maybe** ban 30+ round magazines. Aside from that, not much else. There are virtually no areas of common ground between Republicans and Democrats anymore. Except one. Guns. There are enough Democrat gun owners who make any meaningful gun grab virtually impossible.

And yes, Obama doesn't need congress to go the EO. But he's smart enough to know that if he does this, it will enrage enough Democrats to potentially fuck up his plans for the next 4 years.

What about when a crowd gets "angry about a video" and attacks your home?

For over a month, we heard Barky and his surrogates talking about a mob getting "angry about a video" and killing people as a result of that.

That excuse for the 9/11 attack combined both of these subjects:
-- That people can be stirred to violence from something they see on the screen.
-- That people need high-capacityfirearms to protect themselves...or they get dead.

So, I say...whenever these gun-grabbers ask 'Why do people need high-capacity magazines?"...we say:
Because a crowd could "get angry about a video" and attack me, en masse.

What are the odds that CBS will let this happen? NBC moving out of 4th place isn't good for CBS; even if CBS still leads, CBS will make less money ... is CBS okay with this?

Getting roughed-up by the government ... everyone knows how this ends: the very top executives essentially lose all power ... and to an assortment of bureaucratic snots ... roughly the same age as their children.

3. Free speech curtailed through minions blocking accounts and sabotaging web sites, while the regular press has been corrupted to become an arm of the State.
4. The entertainment industry has been co-opted to nothing but constant propaganda. Messages about leftist causes are in almost all popular television as well as sports shows.
5. Education is now full of leftists and they push the Obama message.
6. Articles about amending the Constitution for allowing the president to serve more than 2 terms.
7. The sudden appearance of "experts" saying that the Constitution needs to be scrapped.

Bad stuff is going to happen over the next four years. I personally think there is a large effort to scrap the Constitution, paving the way for Obama to have a Chavez-style presidency. Ugh.

Simple. They are at war. They've been assembling infrastructure for decades awaiting the right opportunity to deploy it with minor adjustments to make it specific to whatever incident supplies the casus belli. It is how the DoD operates but in this case the goal is the destruction of the nation rather than its defense.

The ObamaCare doorstop has been revised and updated on frequent basis ever since they previously tried to use it as HillaryCare. That 2700 page behemoth didn't come out of nowhere. You can find similar bodies of legislative text ready to go for nearly any leftist cause.

There is not a law or series of laws if enacted, that could have prevented what happened at Sandy Hook.

So now instead of having a 30 round clip he now has three ten round clips that take all of 1.5 seconds to swap.

Odds and Ends...

The fact that elements of the entertainment industry are being invited to Obama's summit no doubt has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Obama's inauguration is currently underfunded, and not enough businesses/rich guys have donated to help pay for the whole thing. Obama would never use the threat of political repercussions to "encourage" donations to help pay for his swearing in. How could you even think of that!?

It is possible that the speed with which this whole thing is being assembled post-Sandy Hook is not a coincidence. Assuming that Fast and Furious really was intended to provide an excuse to put new restrictions on guns, then something would have been in place to take advantage of that. Said "something" would probably look an awful lot like what we're seeing now.

A deal to give New York one of the toughest gun control laws in the nation is being negotiated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who, sources said Tuesday, is hoping to announce the plan Wednesday during his State of the State speech in Albany.

Cuomo hopes to jump-start the 2013 legislative session with a big deal that could dramatically alter gun control laws across the state.

Ah, but the decision is already made. The Supremes are usually loath to overturn a recent decision they have already made. It implies they didn't know what the hell they were doing the first time around. Might be true, but they don't want the public to ridicule them.

Beyond that, it is going to be hard to walk that dog back.

Short of bloodshed, and short of fomenting rebellion, the fact that there are-- what? 100 million?-- many angry, armed people concerned that our elected leaders do what they're supposed to do, derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, may by itself help to stiffen the resolve of those elected leaders to do the right thing.

Is that what 5.56x45 has gotten up to? Jiminy Christmas.

And if you can, stay away from the M855/SS109 stuff. That is made to go through lightly armored targets. Not the best stuff for home defense (it has a mild steel penetrator in it that could go further than you want, and do less damage to a close in target). The M193 55 grain stuff is better. And if you have the barrel twist rate (1-7 or 1- the 69 grain stuff is perfect.

No, in fact in Pennsylvania it is actually illegal for any government or police agency to keep a registry of firearms per 18 Pa.C.S. § 6111.4 (Registration of firearms). If you legally possess bring your firearms into the Pennsylvania or come into possession of the firearms legally, no further action is required.

Yes and the only good thing about it (as mentioned above) is hitting the courts.

We haven't won *all* the gun cases, but the only part of government that's been rolling back these idiot laws are the courts - even in Illinois and California.

When the Ninth Circus tells you you're abusing government power, you've gone way, way, way too far. And they have.

The downside is a lot of wasted effort in the meantime.
