Battle Lines Drawn On Budget: http://tinyurl.com/azdpzxv

Republicans Say Further Tax Increases Off the Table for Coming Debt Negotiations
Pretty tough talk from a caucus who just moved heaven-and-earth to make sure that automatic spending cuts that should have taken-place last week never actually had to be made. But once again, making sure the "middle class" is shielded from the costs of the government they themselves have voted for and support is paramount while actually starting to pare-back the federal behemoth is always "the next battle".
And so, the nation lurches ever-further to the left, almost as if we had no right-of-center opposition at all - which we don't.

12 There's a great point in that California article about how the one percenters who are paying the taxes do not receive anything in return. That scales down as well. I am far, far from a one percenter but I don't receive any benefits from the state or the Feds. I'm single, with no kids and I rent. I don't think there is a single assistance program for which I qualify.

Why the hell I am paying for other people's groceries escapes me. You know what, no, I can't afford higher taxes to pay for other people's health care and housing and child care and the like. It's not charity when there's a gun to my head to make me pay it. I am infuriated that I have to work to take care of myself and those other people over there who I do not know and who are not part of me and mine. If I wanted to be responsible for other people, I would have a partner and kids. For fuck's sake, I don't even have a fish. Why should I be forced to provide for others against my will?

I'm getting more and more bitter and more and more fuck you starve in the streets. I don't see that changing any time soon.

(The French Economist)Duflo, who was raised in a “left-leaning Protestant” family, said she
became aware of economic divides and social injustice at a very early
age.

“I was always conscientious of the gap between my existence and that
of the world’s poor,” she told weekly French magazine l’Express in a
January, 2011 article. “As a child, I was extremely troubled by the
complete randomness of chance that I was born in Paris to an
intellectual, middle class family, when I could have just as easily been
born in Chad. It’s a question of luck. It inspired in me a sense of
responsibility.”

That's nothing. What about the pure demographics of it all? The notion that Gen. Y (poorly educated, spoiled, overly medicated, largely unemployable,) will be able to support first the Boomers and then whatever remains of Gen. X's entitlements patently is absurd.

Obviously. The post-Chicago '68 version of the Democrat Party always uses the same tactics. Straight out of the CPUSA playbook.

I have never, ever understood why military personnel have to pay state taxes for wages earned while on deployment outside of the state. Yes, the military is different. This isn't my brother taking a contract position in CA for five months because he can't find work in-state. This is those who are protecting our freedom leaving to do just that. AtC, try being in my shoes. Wife and I are both self-employed. AGI of just over $25k and we still get a bill from the IRS of almost $5k.

How is that even close to fair? What government do I get for sending nearly 20% of our meager income to the federal government? I already paid for the roads with the gas taxes I paid. I already paid for the cops and firemen with the property taxes I paid. I paid for the courts with the filing fees I paid.

So, what in the hell am I getting in return for that $5k?

I. Am. Fucking. Pissed.

Nutsy Pelosi is trying to lay a foundation for using the 14th Amendment to do so.

"Section 4 -The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void."

The problem with her logic is that this deals with the debts incurred BY LAW to fight the Civil War and repudiates any Confederate debt.

Not to speak for OSP, but I think that was an attempt at a serious response. I was pondering that last night and came to the chilling conclusion that I have no idea who would have standing to try to bring an injunction to stop it. I believe the courts would punt and say it's a political question which moves it back to Congress to impeach which simply will not occur. Thus, tyranny.

I think that an EO trying to grab guns, mayhap via the reclassification method, will occur first and my opinion on what will happen then can be summarized as boom.

ahead of last year’s six-day total. And at two a day, it puts us on a
pace for 730 this year, which would be our highest total since 1997.

If only Chicago had tougher gun laws this would never ever happen. Save us Rahm!!

You know, every time some college campus has one of those "campus safety meetings" where they tell everyone "Be calm, all is well. No, you totally don't have a right to protect yourself on campus," FIRE or some other Conservative group needs to have a plant in the audience to ask something like this:

"I understand that we have a zero tolerance policy towards guns on campus, and let me assure you that the students appreciate your concern for our safety. But, what if that 'no guns' sign doesn't actually deter someone? What if someone starts shooting up the campus anyway? What do you recommend?"

They should do it every. single. time, until the entire nation understands that the anti-gun lobby thinks that there is some magical zone created when you put up a sign that says "No guns."

Morning, hobbit. I would suggest starting out with a .22 target pistol. Cheap to shoot and lightweight. Practice aiming and using the trigger correctly. Build up the wrist and hand muscles that way too. Most people run off and buy too much gun to start with. After you become proficient I suggest a Tokarev 54 for self defense. A light gun with much stopping power. The ammunition is inexpensive also.As far as long guns, a .22 is a good learner gun. For shotguns, use a composite stock 16 or 12 guage. I'm assuming during all this that your identification as "hobbit" implies something about your physical size.

Oooh. Prettttty. I can't get to the link (my work blocks links to "weapon" sites *rolling eyes*), but a quick google image search works.

I really am leaning toward a rifle. I don't trust myself to keep my hand steady when holding a handgun.

Oh hell, why don't I just get both? The gubmint's going to hate me either way, regardless of gun, regardless of caliber, so why not go wild! Hell, they'd probably want to throw a body in jail for owning a pink plastic paintball gun covered in Hello Kitty stickers. *rolling eyes again*

"

What a moron. The guy was obviously casing the neighborhood to see what
house was empty to rob. If she'd answered the door or otherwise made it
known the house was occupied the guy woulda moved on, he obviously
wasn't an armed intruder looking for a confrontation. She put her
children in danger needlessly, she's not a hero at all.

And I'm all for people being armed, btw. This person is just an example of creating trouble, not heroism."

And this is why there can be absolutely no quarter given on this issue. There are people out just waiting to make excuses for every villain in the world, salivating at the very thought.

The stupidity is astonishing.

And if you notice the pattern here. Tall and think QB's who run present a much easier target that shorter ones, such as Russel Wilson in Seattle. RG3's knees are much higher off the ground that Wilson's and make an easier target. Plus Wilson seems to have learned to slide better than RG3.

Since cable tv is always looking for new content, here's a show proposal:

From Brietbart TV, in association with Ace Of Spades Commentors, Inc., a new reality series/game show. "Who Knows" has contestants each week competing for cash prizes by answering questions on civics, economics, geography, politics and current events.

The home audience will be given information on the contestant's employment, education, political affiliation and what news sources they regularly use without identifying which contestant the information is about. At the end of each program, the home audience will vote on which biographical profile matches which contestant, based on how they answer the questions.

This would be a great show.

Here is what can happen to you if you "answer the door" when strangers are outside:

The two paroled burglars tormented a family of four in the affluent New Haven suburb of Cheshire before killing Jennifer Hawke-Petit and leaving her daughters, 17-year-old Hayley and 11-year-old Michaela, to die in a fire.
The only survivor, Dr. William Petit, was beaten with a baseball bat and tied up but escaped.
Hayes was convicted in 2010 of raping and strangling Hawke-Petit and killing the girls. The girls were tied to their beds and doused in gasoline before the house was set ablaze; they died of smoke inhalation. Komisarjevsky was convicted of the killings and of sexually assaulting Michaela.

307 And I'm all for people being armed, btw. This person is just an example of creating trouble, not heroism."

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

First off, i find it comforting that this person who wasn't even THERE is able to divine the purpose and motivation behind the Bell Ringer's visit.

Second, I find it equally comforting that this person who wasn't even there is able to divine what the outcome would have been had the mother with two young children in the house opened the door. It's nice to know that there are people out there who are such experts at understanding the human condition that they can not only see into the future, but they can see into UNREALIZED FUTURES that MAY HAVE BEEN. That's some talent right there.

Third, I'm impressed that the person who wasn't even there thinks nothing of the fact that the Bell Ringer was ringing the bell so incessantly that the woman felt it necessary to call her husband. That doesn't sound to me like a guy who's checking to see if the house is empty. That sounds like a guy who wants to get into the house under false pretenses, empty or not.

Fourth, the woman was in an upstairs office at the time. Her children were playing downstairs. She called down the stairs to tell the children not to answer the door b/c she thought it was probably a salesman. Now, i don't know about the rest of you, but if I were to shout to someone in another section of my house not to answer the door, whoever is on the other side of the door is going to hear me. They might not hear what I'm saying, but they're going to hear that someone is home. This is why when trying to avoid door-to-door salemen I don't yell at people to stay away from the door. I duck down behind the sofa so no one can see me and make exagerrated shushing motions to anyone else in the near vicinity so they don't do something stupid like answer the door.

Even Elway couldn't win a Superbowl til he stopped running and let TDavis do the work.

If Vick was willing to do his homework and practice hard, he may have been capaple of doing it.

He sure was a lazy fucker WRT passing until he lost his contract and had to prove himself with the Eagles.

Well if it's Principles don't worry about it, it really can't be fudged much because they're teaching you very basic 60 year old theory. Just remember that if you continue economics you'll be lucky to hear a prof even once mention the pesky "other" 30% of economics which is supply-side, unless you're at GMU. Modern economic education, at least at the undergraduate level, is all demand-side neo-Keynesianism.

I'm not worried about you though, you're a moron Enjoy the class, it was the final stepping stone which changed the trajectory of life, although I'm more of a micro guy.

325 I'm a huge RG3 and Redskins fan but he's got to learn to slide at the end of runs instead of having the shit beat out of him by trying for an extra yard or two;

THIS. Every time I've watched him this season, whenever he's broken off for a run to get extra yardage after the first down I've had to resist the urge to scream, "SLIDE, Griffin, just FUCKING SLIDE!" Peyton and Brady are great quarterbacks who have the speed and maneuverability of oil tankers, but when they do occasionally run for a first down they SLIDE THE FIRST CHANCE THEY GET. I don't care how good your feet are; you can't run at all if you're leg is broken. Ask Michael Vick.

Wilson seems to know better when to slide, which I'm thankful for. That's a smart kid. I think RGIII will figure it out, too. Heck, I think this injury is going to FORCE him to figure it out. You've got Alfred Morris RIGHT THERE, RG. Let him do the running.

Yep. Not only can they hear that you said something, a woman's voice usually sounds just a wee bit different than a man's, and children sound like exactly what they are---small, easily-overpowered people. Sick to death about RGIII and certainly irritated as hell about Shanahan trying to pass the buck. Hey, jackhole, you're a multi-million-dollar highly experienced head coach -- YOU decide when a player comes out, not the player. Particularly not a rookie player.

And it had nothing to do with a doctor clearing him or not (even tho clearly the doctor didn't). It had to do with effectiveness. Any layperson could see that he couldn't step into his throws. There's simply no reason to not put Cousins in to start the second half.

366 What the GOP Should Be Challenging the Left On: Part 5,354

At The Blaze:

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who campaigned on a platform of fairness and protecting the middle class before winning her seat in November, was recently asked by a Fox affiliate in Boston to define who, exactly, is in the middle class.

“When we strengthen education, when we make it possible for kids to go to college, then we strengthen America’s middle class, and that doesn’t mean a dollar figure,” Warren said.

“The middle class is, by definition, a group of people in a certain income level,” the reporter [replied]. “But you’re not willing to say that they are.”

“No…no…because I actually disagree with that,” Warren said.

The reporter argued that when writing legislation, the middle class would be defined by income levels, but Warren disagreed. She said instead that there are many characteristics that define the middle class.

“That sounds a little like a dodge, Senator Warren,” the reporter said.

“No, but it’s not a dodge,” Warren responded.

Exactly. He's not a running QB, and he's said that he doesn't want to be identified as such. That said, he needs to STOP RUNNING. That means that the Skins need to either pump up their offensive line to give RGIII more time to make his reads and throw, or they need to get more talented receivers for him to throw to. As he matures I have no doubt he'll be an excellent long-term QB, but to start off he needs to have some solid, quality veterans around him to build his confidence and skill set.

I do chafe at the implication that RGIII is some sort of novelty running
QB a la Vick. Look at his passing numbers. They're much better than
Luck's in terms of QB rating, INTs, and even TDs and that was with less
games. He's a skilled player and a fine young man.

Posted by: Y-not at January 07, 2013 10:59 AM (5H6zj)

I think Shanahan pere et fils did an outstanding job of incorporating the type of offense he ran at Baylor which requires more than just an athletic QB to run it. He also has to make excellent decisions and good throws. The Skins receivers weren't exactly elite and having Garcon out for a significant amount of time didn't help at all. Alfred Morris was a pleasant surprise although you can't underestimate how much RG3's abilities help everybody else look better. As a Redskins fan, I'm more optimistic going into the offseason than I've been for a long time.

I thought Griffin should have sat down after his second TD pass...not for the rest of the game, but he clearly aggravated the injury scrambling the play before. Cousins had already proved he could perform under pressure and it would have been a perfect time to rest RGIII for a little while at least, get a qb in who is 100%, change things up on a reeling Seahawks defense, and focus on a successful running attack.

I actually think Andy Dalton could be a decent QB if he had a better team around him. I know that the term "elite" gets bandied around a lot when it comes to talking about football players, but my definition of an elite player is one who makes the team he's on better just by being there. Peyton manning is elite. Adrian Petersen is elite. Tom Brady is elite. Larry Fitzgerald is elite, although it's hard for him to showcase his eliteness due to the fact that his team keeps employing glorified stockboys with some kind of irreversible palsy to throw the ball instead of quarterbacks.

Elite players are pretty rare and very special. Most players are good or very good, but often that's only showcased when the entire team is firing on all cylinders, shoring up each other's weaknesses and highlighting each other's strengths. I think Andy Dalton is like that; same with Alex Smith. Give them a solid team and they can make things happen, but they can't do it without other pieces in place to complete the picture. Unfortunately that can be like capturing lightning in a bottle, since the team that plays great one year may lose some of their key pieces in the offseason due to trades and salary cap issues. And when that happens you have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch again.

431 Oh man, I could write a book about that piece on California. I lived in San Diego from 1989-1991, and worked in the state legislature in 1990.That was the time when the seeds of California's current mess were being planted.

Most of what is wrong with California can be laid directly at the feet of two organizations: the California Teachers Association and the Sierra Club. In 1988, the CTA got a Constitutional amendment passed that guarantees at least 48% of the state's budget must go to K-12 public education. Of course, they never anticipated a flood of illegal immigrants over the next 10 years that would explode the student population, require extensive ESL instruction, and also cause the state's health care budget to quadruple. This has led to a squeeze in funding for higher education, which is contributing to the brain drain now as state colleges have been forced to drastically increase tuition. And even now as the state jacks up taxes to try to balance its hemorrhagong budget, half of all of those revenues go directly into a failed education system that has zero incentive to chage or improve, because its funding is guaranteed.

I can't even begin to describe the damage the Sierra Club has done. California has the most fucked-up land use laws in the world. The amount of land that has been frozen from development would stagger most of you; it's probably an area as big as a small state like New Hampshire. And of course, California has shit-tons of oil and gas that have also been put off limits thanks to the Sierra Club. There are additives that can't be used in household products in California, its auto emission standards reeuire auto manufacturers to make cars differently just for sale there, etc. etc. All this regulation and prevention has produced massive inefficiency for business, loss of jobs, loss of tax revenue, and lost potential for ecomonic growth that could have provided a ladder of success for all those immigrants.

I don;t know why anyone would want to live there anymore unless you are part of the entertainment industry or are a hipster who wants to work for Google or Apple.

436 According to a Facebook post by the owner of American Spirit Firearms, Bank of America has decided to weigh in on the gun debate by freezing his account. Joe Sirochman, Owner of American Spirit Firearms, says Bank of America froze his account after people at the bank decided he shouldn’t be allowed to sell guns on the internet.

This isn’t the first time Bank of America has targeted one of its customers for being involved in the Firearms industry. In fact, earlier this year McMillan Group International, who had been banking with Bank of America for 12 years, was told that their business was no longer welcome after they started manufacturing firearms. Operations director Kelly McMillan also used Facebook to warn its customers what was happening.

Sirochman, who has all the proper federal licensing, says he was told by Bank of America Management that the reason his deposits were being “held for review” was because Bank of America felt he “SHOULD NOT BE SELLING GUNS and PARTS ON THE INTERNET”

I would argue that you can't define the Middle Class that way, either. For one thing, calling anyone part of any "class" suggest acceptance of the belief that one is born to a certain "class" and just stays there. It does not accept the reality of income mobility.

If you're going to define "classes" at all, then they are: The Productive Class, the Moocher Class, and the Idle Class.

Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to define people by these terms, because it wouldn't be "nice."

Agree. Dalton is stuck with the players around him that a smaller market can buy.
Incidentally, upthread I did in no way imply that RGIII was limited as a passer. I chafed Ynot without meaning to. Let me offer some Gold Bond here, by saying that RG has excellent passing skills, but the management is not doing him a service by allowing him to play injured, and not coaching him to pass first, always first. He certainly can do that.

With a bum leg and an O Line that wasn't always protecting him. Also, how many of those 9 misses were actually drops. I know of at least two that should have been caught and weren't.

Which reminds me of a gripe on football stats. Why is it we don't keep track of dropped passes? I don't mean "missed," but actively quantifiable drops. When the receiver touches the ball, or it slips right through his hands, it's a drop.

That's at least as fair to receivers as counting every single missed pass as the QB's fault.

Go work on your 40 time or getting a couple extra MPH on your fastball. That's what's gonna make you successful.

THIS is what I hate most of all. I truly believe that athletics -- with their attention to detail, dedication and dependence on schedules, practice, and work -- can provide athletes with all the tools necessary to excel at academics. What do they get instead? Rather than being encouraged to apply those same skills to classwork, they're encouraged to focus on their work on the field or in the clubhouse or on the boards or in the ring while their teachers and classmates "tidy up" for them in the classroom. I HATE HATE HATE that. Talk about an entitlement mindset. "I'm awesome at throwing a three pointer so I should get everything I want handed to me on a silver platter."

What good does that do for a young person who, someday, will have to support him/herself without depending on athletics? Not everyone who plays high school football goes on to a big name college program, and even fewer of those go on to the NFL. And of those, how many are washouts? How many get cut early on in their careers and never make it past the practice squad? What are they going to do with their lives when they can barely function above a sixth grade level?

*breathing deeply*

Sorry, sorry. I'm venting. This is one of those things that gets my goat. Everyone tends to ignore that the term "athletic scholarship" isn't the same as "athletic entitlement." The "scholarship" part of a scholarship has to be earned, too.

You have to take some factors into account there.

1) The ones who stay to graduate are generally the ones who didn't leave early for the NFL draft, and thus the ones who really had to work to maintain their scholarship and/or their roster spot.

2) In some of the larger athletic programs the players major in very easy fields. Communication was my major, but even I'll admit that it's stupidly easy to get a CMN degree with very little effort. Hence why so many athletes major in CMN. Other popular programs include the various "studies" majors.

But there, too, you have to look at where the players are enrolled and what the campus' view of athletic academics is. If the school's attitude is "BCS trophies > academic preparation for the world after college," then it doesn't really matter what their graduation rate looks like. You can't trust that it's telling you the truth.

I'm not saying that athletes are stupid -- they're not. What I'm saying is that athletes are not always held to the same academic standard as their non-athlete classmates, and that does a disservice to them and those around them. The ones who are genuinely bright are always viewed through the "dumb jock" mold, and the ones who COULD be bright but are never expected to demonstrate their intelligence beyond a rudimentary degree are robbed of the chance to get a quality education that will serve them long after the playing field is just a fond memory.

If you can't beat the Dems, subvert them. Vote in their primaries and force their hacks to pander to the right.

Be careful what you wish for Dems, you might get it

516 So I'd like to buy myself an air gun. Eventually I
intend to buy myself an actual GUN, but before I make that decision I'd
like to work on my ability to aim and hit the target and figure out what
I feel most comfortable with. I'd prefer to get myself either a rifle
or a revolver,.117 or .22 caliber to start (for practice). Does anyone
have any recommendations?

You shouldn't count as a murderthe guy on MLK Drive; that was obviously a suicide. Anyone walking on MLK Drive clearly wants to end it all.

My 16-year-old son says he's lost any faith he had in his generation. "They don't know what's going on around them; they're all complete morons" is one memorable quote of his.
