1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, January 06, 2013. On this day in 1492 Ferdinand and Isabella entered Granada, completing the Reconquista. All Muslims and Jews were ordered to convert or leave the country. Ah, they should have let the Jews alone and simply expelled all the Muzzies.

Andy's early today; thanks Andy

3 Another shooting in Aurora, CO. This one from a Hispanic crazy on amphetamines. It appears he was tied in with gangs as well and has been in trouble on weapons charges many times before. IOW he was a keg waiting to go off and local LIO’s knew it. Still, a lot of local papers are calling for “gun control”.

Obama in 2013 with a massive gun control agenda. It has almost zero chance of passing provided Republicans do not sell us out. This also included some more graft and corruption in bribing stores like WalMart to quit selling guns.

7 Tom Udall (C-NM) joins the cacophony of liberals calling for Pharaoh Ocrapweasel to rule by decree violating the constitution and law. We need to get Republicans to respond with this

”since the Democrats consider the Constitution and law to be null and void we will too. In areas where we are in control we will pass laws making it illegal to be a Democrat with the penalty being revocation of citizenship and deportation”

That aught to wake them up. I am tired of our side standing by while they run amuck and all we do is frakin whine.

8 Some of y’all may have missed this yesterday. Woman in Loganville, GA shoots intruder 5 times. She is lucky she lives in GA and not MA. If she lived in a “gun control State” she would most likely be dead along with her children. The career criminal who broke in survived by a miracle. Home break-ins with people at home usually result in the death of somebody. If she had used a shotgun with 2 or 4 shot and hit him in the face she would be living in a hotel while a cleaning company removed his brains from the interior and he would be talking to his cohorts in hell.

Also, piss on WSB for showing a picture of the house. Loganville is a suburb of Atlanta.

12 This is the kind of shit that chafes my butt. The feds order banks to loan to people who can not afford loans using BS CRA laws and regulations. The banks do that and charge higher interest rates. When the market collapsed due to these policies the feds “investigate” calling them “predatory loans”. They are making a secret deal now to let them off lightly because they have no evidence of wrong-doing.

And the banks will pay. Why? Because the feds still hold the keys to their banks through all the myriads of useless “predatory” regulations. In the end who suffers? We do.

Hey Vic. The Spanish people are only now, and very hesitatingly coming to terms with their past. At the time of the Inquisition, those Jews who were not brutally put to death by Tomas Torquemada became either "maranos," those who faked conversion and practiced Judaism in secret or "converses," or complete converts to Catholicism.

THe maranos could not maintain the charade very lon and either fled or were executed. Today, a very large segment of the population is discovering that they have Jewish roots while living in a country that is at best indifferent to Jews and at worst openly anti-semitic and anti-Israel (the newspapers often times look like they are reprints of German tabloids from the 30's). They only just recently re-opened the main synagogue in Madrid which had been closed since the time of Ferdinand and Isabella.

I have been to Spain and am in love with the food, the land and the culture, but as a Jew it is difficult for me to deal with all of the above. My ancestors fled in 1492 and spent the next 450 years in Hungary.
Why is the world so screwed up?

Because politicians (ruling class) love power and corruption and are always looking for a scape goat. In Europe traditionally it has been the Jews. In the US it is the evil "RICH" which were the jews in the dark ages.
So we are not very far removed from Europe in the dark ages and we are entering ours fully now.

The Jews have been "wandering" from the time of the destruction of the second temple in Jerusalem until 1948 and the establishment of the modern stat of Israel.

My mother, who as many of you all know survived Hitler, said that when the last of the survivors die, the Shoah will be just like the Inquisition and indeed become forgotten or turned into a myth.

As for the "reconquista," I don't what the word is in Arabic, but that was one of Bin Laden's goals - the taking back of Andalucia and reestablishing the caliphate. That may very well happen in Europe, and possibly the world over.

45 Talking about "the most corrupt administration ever" sparks some thinking.

Most scholars look at the Grant admin as the most corrupt. Modern administration have ALL vastly exceeded the Grant term, but mostly because the power of the federal government has grown so much since then. That allows greater heights of corruption.

And that brings up the other thing we often reference; the worst President ever.

Most people say that belongs to Jimmy the Peanut. While I agree that he is the most incompetent, the shear incompetence prevented him from being the worst (that being the one who did the most long term damage).

I had assigned that to FDR at the top, LBJ next, and maybe Nixon as third with his damn penchant for regulatory agency creation. Now we have the new challenger, Obama.

He has already long passed Nixon and with his second term should easily pass LBJ. The only thing holding him back is he has only had two years holding a complete commie congress.

Even my knowledge is a bit fuzzy. In a nutshell, the Reconquista took place over a period of several hundred years, and culminated in the Christians recapturing the entire Iberian peninsula from the Moors, who called it al-Andalus (hence Andalusia).

The Jewish holiday of Tisha B'av is a day of fasting that commemorates the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem both in 585BC and 70AD and on the same calendar date, as well as various other tragedies that had befallen the Jewish people that happened on or about that date.

Per Wikipedia:

The First Crusade officially commenced on August 15, 1096 (Av 9, 4856 AM), killing 10,000 Jews in its first month and destroying Jewish communities in France and the Rhineland. A grand total of 1.2 million Jews were killed by this crusade that started on the 9th of Av. [4][6]
The Jews were expelled from England on July 25, 1290 (Av 9, 5050 AM).[4]
The Jews were expelled from France on July 21, 1306 (Av 9, 5066 AM).
The Jews were expelled from Spain on July 31, 1492 (Av 8-9, 5252 AM).[5]
On August 2nd, 1941, (Av 9, 5701 AM) SS commander Heinrich Himmler formally received approval from the Nazi Party for "The Final Solution". Almost 50% of the Jews on the face of the earth were captured and killed at that time.
On the 9th of Av, 5702 (July 23, 1942), the mass deportation began of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto, en route to Treblinka.
AMIA bombing of the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires took place, killing 85 and injuring 300 on Monday, July 18, 1994, 10th of Av, 5754 (it actually is a "two day" holiday, from sunset to sunset.).

68 The Sephardic Jews of Europe.

Quick and dirty. Jews existed in Iberia before the Moors crossed over the strait with usual drama and tolerance. But as the conquest happened and more of Iberia fell to Islam a problem cropped up that is typical of Islamic conquest, the Muslims were incompetent to administer a government - family and tribalism lead to corruption. So they turned to local talent to help, the Christians and Jews. But then the internal squabbles got messy when a fresh more radical batch of Muslims arrived and the infidels felt Islamic wrath.

So after being valued and abused by Islam, here comes Ferdinand and Isabella determined to wipe all foreign influence from their land while conveniently ignoring the Roman, Carthaginian, and Celt-Iberian influences. So the Jews who had been abused by Islam welcomed the Christian liberators until once again they got the screws put to them - convert or else. Some fully converted, some pretended, and others flew to places like the Low Countries.

Capitalism = people buying stuff from each other at an agreeable price;
EveryOtherIsm = powerful people stealing anything they want from everyone else;
CronyIsm = powerful people ensuring that wealth transfer happens so as to benefit other powerful people!

82 On the prescription meds.

Before my HMO changed all of scrips to a mail order firm, you could get a 90 day from the pharmacy but if you were getting close to a vacation and wanted to renew so you wouldn't run out on vacation, the HMO would only allow another 14 day supply. Now that it is mail order, they remind you to order when you still have 45 days left. The pills only take about 2 days from the time I order them.

Strange how the systems work at times.

Very familiar with"Trice Up".
And Reveille is one of those 1MC announcements, that once it starts, it sort of Auto-plays in your head. So when they don't say "and trice up", it is mentally pretty jarring. But, I don't think there is a ship class left afloat that actually has bottom racks that trice any more.

Last year, I took Little VIA on USS Yorktown to look around, and he was amazed at the Enlisted berthing. It was hard to get him to believe that his old man used to have racks that looked not too far from that, except for the pipe frames for the mattresses. And there was no way that I could explain "Air Bedding" to him, with lugging your mattress topside to air out for the day.

And....Hey you kids......Get off my lawn!!

112 Anna and all:

Fascinating and tragic history vis a vis Spanish Jewry:

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/vjw/spain1.html

One fascinating extract:

When Henry de Trastamara ascended the throne as Henry II (1369), the Jews of Spain witnessed the dawn of a new era of suffering and persecution. Prolonged warfare devastated the land, and the people became accustomed to lawlessness. The Jews were reduced to extreme poverty and later expelled.

In addition, Henry II decreed that Jews:

1) Be kept far from palaces;
2) Were forbidden to hold public office;
3) Must live separate from Christians;
4) Should not wear costly garments nor ride on mules;
5) Must wear distinct badges to indicate that they were Jewish;
6) Were barred from adapting Christian names;
7) Were forbidden to carry arms and sell weapons.

Despite his aversion for the Jews, Henry could not dispense with their services. He employed wealthy Jews—Samuel Abravanel and others—as financial councilors and tax collectors. He also did not prevent them from holding religious disputations or deny them the right to conduct their own court proceedings.

Heh, try it on TV broadcasts. We occasionally use it on certain programs because their sound is screwed up, the music is much louder than the dialogue. Sportscasts are usually the worst, you can always tell when someone isn't familiar with names, or sports.

The funniest one was some music documentary we watched a few weeks ago. The cuss words were bleeped out, but the CC faithfully showed every single one.

From what seems to be 1840. Translated from the French into English. 'History of the Moors in Spain'
http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/22337/pg22337.html

Publisher's advertisement at beginning of book -
We are accustomed to look upon the followers of the Arabian Prophet as little better than barbarians, remarkable chiefly for ignorance, cruelty, and a blind and persecuting spirit of fanaticism. As it regards the character of the Mohammedans at the present day, and, indeed, their moral and intellectual condition for the last two centuries, there is no great error in this opinion. But they are a degenerated race. There has been a period of great brilliancy in their history, when they were distinguished for their love of knowledge, and the successful cultivation of science and the arts; nor is it too much to say, that to them Christian Europe is indebted for the generous impulse which led to the revival of learning in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Of the various nations of the great Moslem family, none were more {vi} renowned in arts, as well as arms, than the Moorish conquerors of Spain, whose history is contained in the following pages. The French original of this work has long enjoyed a deservedly high reputation; and the translation here offered is by an American lady, whose literary taste and acquirements well qualified her for the task.

A sketch of Mohammedan history, c., from Rev. S. Greene's Life of Mohammed, has been appended at the close of the volume, to present to the reader a comprehensive view of that very remarkable people, of whom the Moors of Spain formed so distinguished a branch.

and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. As a result, they required Dean to sell
the Waukesha plant while allowing it to retain its dairy processing
plant in De Pere, just south of Green Bay.

So this is what Holder's DOJ considers a threat that must be stopped: supplying too much of the milk to children. Dean Foods must not have contributed an adequate amount to SCOAMF's perpetual campaign fund.

My dad brought home a cheap world atlas from some pharmaceutical company rep (all my school supplies had drug logos on them, lol) when I was 8 or 9 and I spent hours reading all the names of towns and rivers. My grandparents had a US road atlas, and at the state fair, I'd get a new map of Iowa every year. Now I've got great maps of Bavaria and the Alps...

From my experience with leftist women, it seems that the hate within them is what keeps them happy.
In some cases, the phrase "permanently aggrieved" seems to encompass both them, and rather well known ardent practitioners of a certain religious faith.
It's not hard to imagine them supporting each other.
At least until the religion becomes the predominant religion in an area. And when that happens, the leftists can only hope that they get killed last.
But yes, in short, they seem to be constantly miserable people.

180 Well, VA and Anna, I have a list of things leftists have ruined locally.

1. They got Bob Knight fired from IU. To those who have the hate for Knight, I have to say he was one of the few coaches (or any public figure) to just consistently tell the press to go to hell, so he was entertaining and his kids did graduate with degrees.

2. They ran a vendetta against Roselyn Bakery for health violations. The bakery had little shops all over the city which employed older women and were where we used to go every Sunday for coffee cake and doughnuts. The Indy Star went on a crusade and it was totally unreasonable Ended up driving them out of business and all of those older women were left unemployed.

3. They have put stupid bike lanes on all major streets in Indianapolis. Our GOP mayor got snookered into that fiasco. Numbers of people who ride bikes this time of year is very small, and when spring comes we will have the bike riders who think that because they are on a bike lane the rules of safety and physics do not apply to them.

I could go on. They annoy people at State Fair time, during the 500, during any sporting event, etc. Always complaining and finding fault, I have to assume that their spare time is spent eating tasteless healthy food and reading Marxist tracts. Ugh.

14 yo Little VIA brought up the question of parents, and their authority to set rules and standards within the home.
I explained that as long as he was unable to support himself, and was required to live under our roof, and eat our food, and enjoy the healthcare that we provide, that he was beholding to us, and did not have the freedoms that a wage earning, adult child would have.
It wasn't long till we were discussing the concept of adults beholding to the State for their housing, food and clothing surrendering their freedoms as well.
He's a smart kid, and his Government Studies teacher (Retired Air Force) says he "gets it" better than anyone else in his class.

Extremely drinkable saison style ale. A bit malty, a little fruity because of the yeast, a nice crisp round-off from the hops. Probably, lighter in flavor than your usual saison.

You're welcome!

Harassment of the 500 is about inclusiveness in the pre-race activities in May. The State Fair has been ruined due to the crime in the neighborhood. I think the fair board should buy up about 20 blocks surrounding the Fairgrounds and level it.

As far as the Fair itself, due to the screwed up school schedules the county fairs start in July, and the State fair is in August. There was a bitter joke related in "The First World War," in which a veteran at the front wrote home to his child. "How's school? I shouldn't waste much time on European geography. It's all about to change again." We had that joke when I was a kid, too. Even so, I can't remember the last time I saw a globe in a classroom.

223 Well more likely just the memory holing, see Stack, Bedell, and Bishop being 'rebranded' as Tea Party extremists, that jackwagon who called for LaPierre's head on a stick, specialized in that.

Vic, Carney is describing how an outfit like Walmart would seemingly be acting against their interests, of course, the easier explanation is China is their main supplier, and they don't want competition with their munitions,

224 Anna, Kirikaou did leak the name of that officer to Scott Shane, which I won't repeat, as well as that of the psychological consultants that set up the interrogation program, who he went to work for,

225 What is the great evidence for Greene being involved in OWS?

227 Chip thou art a dullard. Go back and read what I wrote and what is between the lines. When Bush was in office the Democrats like TFG were okay with whistle blowers. Now that TFG is in power, he moves with at least six known prosecutions to silence anyone inside who might move against him. By any means necessary they cling bitterly to any trappings of power.

228 Mad that everyone always jumps to conclusions according to how they want the world to be. Ace is no different. He is a partisan hack who is convinced that he's always right. When he is wrong (Greene for example - the police say he has no OWS connection) he makes no correction. All the mud slinging stays in the past as he looks for his next target to throw poo at.

229 Whatever is living up to his/her/its troll rep: NYPD has released no statement changing their allegation that Greene had a connection to OWS, and OWS's own statement is parsed so very, very carefully ("his name is unfamiliar to many OWS activists": see http://tinyurl.com/b9bfvtp) that no one would take it seriously.

But trolls do tend to lie a lot.
