One day out of office, former Rep. Steve LaTourette on Friday slammed GOP House members who didn’t support John Boehner for speaker. LaTourette, a close Boehner ally, also defended the speaker from tea party criticism following the House’s passage of the fiscal cliff deal earlier this week.

“What, these chuckleheads think that having Nancy Pelosi speaker of the House is better for the Republican Party? I don’t think so,” the Ohio Republican said. “So they really have to come to terms why are they here? If they’re just here to vote no — we can train a monkey to vote no.”

8 White House War on Women Escalates The White Houses Flickr account recently released a photo of President Barack Obama and his top advisers. The complete absence of women in the image is another reminder that females are underrepresented in Obamas staff. Additionally, the president still pays his female employees significantly less than their male counterparts. The Obama White House in 2011 paid female staffers 18 percent less than their male colleagues:

And for those of you insisting the Institutional GOP doesn't intervene to protect its favored candidates:

Republican leaders are planning to intervene in selected 2014 races to ensure preferred candidates win the nomination.

High-profile Senate Republicans are going to try to pre-empt bloody primaries with aggressive, early recruitment and support — effectively trying to clear fields.

“Instead of worrying about resolving a contested primary and upsetting a lot of folks on both sides … you recruit the best candidate on the front end,” explained Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio.), a newly named NRSC vice chairman and close ally of Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell.

Former Congressman Steve LaTourette wants to make it easier for those GOP congressmen who are willing to work toward a grand bargain and is leaving Congress to do just that. He’s taking over the Republican Main Street Partnership — the slimmed-down group of congressional GOP centrists — and is going to create a super PAC to serve as a counterbalance to the Club for Growth in House Republican primaries.

“When a center-right Republican is in a primary and is being targeted by some group as a RINO, we’re going to make sure we have their back,” said LaTourette. “Not just with speeches and press releases but with money.”

77 "You Can't Buy Ipad's With Food Stamps"

I was in the grocery store a few months ago and I got stuck behind someone using what I'm assuming to be WIC vouchers to buy food. The woman was buying baby food but she was getting increasingly angry with the poor checkout girl who was trying to explain that the vouchers were only for certain items and she couldn't use it just as cash. The woman finally yelled "This is bullshit, I should just get cash!" It took everything in me not to snap back "Stop stealing my money, bitch". The manager intervened at that point because the checkout girl was near to tears. I will also say that watching as he went through every item she had and comparing it to the book of approved items was a very chilling lesson in the tyranny of government benefits.

Once she was checked out, he apologized to me for the wait and I told him it was fine, it wasn't his fault that they had to comply or face massive fines. I thought he was going to hug me, he was so thrilled that someone understood why they had to be so particular.

I'm not sure what the moral to that story is, don't go shopping the first two days of the month because that's when the cards get reloaded and the vouchers go out? Also, don't let the government give you money for food because then the government can tell you what food you can and cannot have?

78 Yes, because only semiauto pistols are dangerous.

Question- are they defining "one squeeze, one shot" as "semiauto" or are they using the real definition of semiauto.

I ask this question because a lot of people don't realize that most revolvers are ALSO "one squeeze, one shot" weapons now. In fact, I can't think of anyone who manufactures a single action revolver anymore.

And PBS is givng a thank you bj to "The Man Who Gave You Obamacare":

Congress’s freshman class can learn from PBS’s new one-hour documentary, “Mr. Cao Goes to Washington,” which tracks the single-term congressional tenure of Louisiana Republican Joseph Cao. The film, which premiered Thursday night, will broadcast on PBS affiliates nationwide over the next week.

A principal source of Cao’s bitterness about the ways of Washington lies in the White House. Cao believed that his occasional support of and seeming friendship with the president — despite being in opposite parties — meant something, and yet, Barack Obama filmed a campaign spot for Richmond.

“I was his only Republican friend in the House, and to not take into perspective that friendship, that working relationship, … and endorsing a person of very questionable character was disappointing to me,” Cao said.

151 I was talking to a former police chief who works with me, his structural take on Sandy Hook: 1. Morning shifts are chronically understaffed, crime is low, emphasis is on traffic, and officers are tied up from previous night's fun (paperwork at the jail, detox, hospital, etc.) 2. Even without that natural pressure, the morning shift takes a hit because the more experienced guys want afternoons, so they can roll right into lucrative evening shift overtime gigs (DoT baby sitting, etc.). 3. It is going to be painful getting a good report out of those guys, everyone in the chain is going to want to bury the management failures. 4. Mental health issues are big problem, very under resourced, many jails are defacto sanitariums. 5. General confusion on the entry and alarming system needs a looksee, none of us can remember a school without reinforced glass or a silent alarm.

There is a Pulitzer waiting for someone on this, and it isn't about guns.

Owner Bruce Cochrane, a fifth generation furniture-manufacturer, formed the company in 2011 with a $5 million investment and the hope he could make a profit off people who wanted to buy furniture made in America.

It was a move that caught the attention of North Carolina officials and those in the White House. Last year, Cochrane sat with the first lady during Obama’s 2012 State of the Union Address. 162 I usually get accused of overselling my desire to see Withholding ended, but just on this thread, we see that people did not get that the 2% was still due at the end of the year. People, even the presumably aware and active ones here, don't pay attention to their invisible tax load.

I know I didn't before I started writing big checks every quarter. My kids know that those months are bad months for eating out, toys, books, etc. The older ones check the younger ones for me now: "You have to wait, this is an IRS month ..."

163 You know, when they passed that SS cut a few years ago, my paycheck increased about $20. Now that it's gone, my first one was down more than $60. Go figure. Although to be fair, I'm pretty sure the union jacked my paycheckfor more dough beginning the same time as the SS holiday. But I don't need to tell the LIVs that.

168 The confluence of the "Guardian's views on paedophilia" and "gun owners are like child molesters" stories is interesting.

It seems to me that leftists, who tend to be moral degenerates, generally don't have any real problem with adults having sex with children unless they can use it to attack someone they hate, such as the Catholic Church. Or when some Republican city councilman in Jerkwater, USA gets caught with a 16-year-old boy, then that can be ascribed to the whole party.

But if Roman Polanski roofies and sodomizes a 13-year-old girl, then it's no biggie, because he's a "talented [left-wing] artist." I think the rampant pedophilia in Hollywood is pretty much an open secret.

So a leftist saying "gun owners are like child molestors" reminds me of a line from this website some time ago along the lines of, "Jews are like Nazis, except that we hate Jews and love Nazis."

Just to add some more almost certainly unintentional hilarity to the single-action revolver thing, convertible SAA (Single-Action Army) revolvers such as the Ruger Single Six and the Heritage Mfg Rough Rider change from .22LR to .22WMG by swapping the cylinder.

Could it be argued the cylinder is a "removable magazine?"

Actually that's a similar point that I have always made but not for the reasons the Guardian has. What makes the abnormal sexual proclivity of homosexuality any 'better' than any other abnormal sexual proclivity? Its a subjective standard set by culture. That said I admittedly can make an argument that pedastry may not be any more abnormal than homosexuality but that society does have the responsibilityto protect the innocent from this sexual abnormality. At the same time, the acceptance of any other sexual abnormality should not be forced upon society as normal.

One thing you learn quickly from people who rent cheap property is that many tenants behind on their rent will trade you their weapons in exchange for another month.

And considering that those landlords figure out quickly that the cops will seize the weapons without compensation if they're reported, they just stop reporting it.

No, he's completely wrong. For his "logical parallel" to be correct, you would every gun-owner in America would have to have a history of violence.

The sex offender registry is due to criminal activity of which you have been convicted, or to which you have pleaded guilty. Owning a handgun is a completely legal activity which specifically requires (for it to be legal) that you pass a background check proving you don't have a history of illegal violent behavior.

The two are so different that to conflate them at all is the height of intellectual dishonesty.

Cops shoot and kill guy. Both cops are in the hospital. If only there had been no subway, then the guy would not have been stopped.

345 Temple is apretty good place to go to collegeif you want to live/work in the Philly area when you get out and you know how to stay safe. It's less than 1/4 the cost of Penn or Villanova (if you are a PA resident) and the education is just as good, especially in some majors like business and the arts. It is in a shitty neighborhood, but campus security is great. The students that get hurt there are always way off campus. Toured it with my son 2 years ago when he was looking at colleges and he loved it, but did not get into the program he wanted there. My best friend's son (from the DC area) is there now studying architecture, and his girfriend is studying art. He is in the honors program and it is great. A bunch of my son's high school friends are there too and like it.

351 I was waiting for someone to try and justify the huge jump in withholdings by pointing out the new "free!" birth control and my idiot sister-in-law happily complied. Great---instead of a $30 copay for name-brand birth control that also controls acne and can reduce your cycles to four times a year (not that that's healthy, but whatever) if you had the super-awesome insurance or $4-$9 a month for quality generics with fewer bells and whistles if you had other insurance, you now get to pay the government $120 a month. Even if your broke enough that you got Medicaid and paid $0, as SS withholdings come out of even the part-time crap jobs that the working poor take, you're paying more! Yay!

I didn't see every business rebuilt on Ventura Blvd after the Northridge quake until around 1998. There are still businesses that haven't been rebuilt from the 2007 fires in San Diego.

But Fat Man's numbers are up in NJ right now, and the biggest newspapers are talking about the DISGRACE that "their" money hasn't gotten to them within 2 months.

North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana haven't gotten immediate full funding right after a major storm either. Katrina doesn't count since a good chunk of that was welfare for displaced baby mamas.

Only if he told his teacher---outside of Texas. I am really, truly lucky for the public school that my kids go to. My son's teacher is truly dedicated and made a point of recommending certain books as Christmas gifts to the parents of all or most of the kids in the class, plus a scholastic wishlist for the classroom---I thought it would be all scholastic books recommended for the kids at home, as the school benefits from that, but he recommended for my Alex that I go on Amazon and order The Gun Book For Boys (he was nice enough to email me when it was on sale, too) and it was awesome. Waterboy is debatable, as is The Longest Yard.

Then again, I live around the area lampooned by the former and I get a kick out of all the pro wrestlers acting in the latter, such as that worthless sack of shit Kevin Nash being on estrogen instead of steroids.

423 74 I think a flame thrower might be legal under the assault weapons ban.

I recall reading or being told that flame throwers are not regulated...at all.

So, yes, they are legal and will be after any AWB. Nor do they require a NFA Tax stamp.

It won't stop me from now on. I'm going to embarrass these people on food stamps. I want them to be embarrassed to use them, and I want them to know, and everyone around them to know, that some of us are tired of them leeching.

Bedtime Stories was pretty good. When it first started out I thought it was going to go off the cliff as a PC libtard mushbake but it turned out good.

The "most persucuted religion" link cracks me up. When you want to cry victimhood, like some sort of lame liberal, suddenly Christianity is a religion again (instead of a "philosophy", which is what they call it when they're trying to infuse it within the govt), and atheism isn't (otherwise it would surely top the list). Atheism isn't a religion, but they like to call it such, and to claim that govt religiousneutrality equals atheism (it isn't), so that they can cry "First Amendment".

Other than that, Islam is probably the most persecuted religion, because Muslims are persecuted by Islam.

None of which is to deny persecution of Christianity throughout the world. I'm sure it really exists, but these stats seems questionable, and miss the big picture.

427 Ban natural gas?
Wikipedia:
The New London School explosing occurred on March 18, 1937, when a natural gas leak caused an explosion, destroying the London School of New London, Texas, a community in Rusk County previously known as "London". The disaster killed more than 295 students and teachers, making it deadliest school disaster in American history.

Spanglish was wonderful. I wasn't crazy about the illegal immigrant being portrayed as a saint, but the rest of it was great. When Cloris Leachman tells a cheating, child-neglecting, rotten (you know, liberal) Tea Leoni, "Maybe what you're calling 'low self-esteem' is really just good, honest common sense" I kind of applaud.

50 First Dates is also great. Great use of Sean Astin.

429 And I'm an idiot for not mentioning The Wedding Singer. Still one of my favorite mushy movies.

argues that "Themajority of paedophiles, however socially
inappropriate, seem to be gentle and rational."

List of Socially Inappropriate Behaviors
* Belching
* Farting
* Failing to write a thank you letter for a gift
* Pedophilia

Hmm. One of these things is not like the others.
