| Overnight Open Thread (1-2-2013)As transcribed from recovered cockpit voice recorders by the NTSB. As you'd expect most are of surprise and confusion and a good amount of cursing but some (mostly foreign) seem rather fatalistic. I'm pretty sure mine would be some variant of "Fuuuuu###k!".
Biblical names are down and Fifty Shades of Grey names are in.
These tweets are not satire. The Gun Stats That Liberals Don't Want You to See Well for one thing the US is barely more murderous than most of Europe is - despite having FAR more guns. The Man Who Stopped a School Shooting Over 46 years ago when there weren't SWAT teams to respond to them. Until the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech, the deadliest school shooting in American history occurred at the University of Texas in 1966. Charles Whitman, an architecture student at the university (and a Marine Corps veteran) climbed the landmark, 28-story clock tower on the UT campus with a high-powered rifle, then opened fire. Sixteen people died before a small group of Austin police officers, accompanied by armed citizens put an end to the rampage. Read the rest to find out how McCoy, Martinez, and Crum (a deputized civilian) finally took down Whitman. From 300AD when not everyone had evolved five toes yet. :-) Be able to recognize the forms and know their ways - your soul may depend on it. Teh Tweet! Yahoo group. That is all. While you were looking the other way: The Obama administration eased the way Wednesday for illegal immigrants who are immediate relatives of American citizens to apply for permanent residency, a change that could affect as many as 1 million of the estimated 11 million immigrants unlawfully in the U.S. The change is the latest move by the administration to use its executive powers to revise immigration procedures without Congress passing a law. My dad was an ambulance driver that day in Austin.
(Side Note: They weren't actually ambulances but converted hearses owned by the local funeral homes. My dad new basic first aid and how to drive a land yacht fast. Interesting business model.) Apparently there were A LOT of Austinites trying to suppress the fire from the tower. He couldn't understand how Whitman was able to get shots off with all the lead flying in his direction. After it was over he went into the tower and recovered the family Whitman gunned down on his way to the observation deck. Posted by: CozMark at January 02, 2013 09:59 PM (BjOkm) 62

If you ever get the chance to see the stage play "CVR" (Cockpit Voice Recorder) they take the actual blackbox recordings from crashes and act out the last 3-5 minutes of flights that did not go well.
It is *amazing* to see how things go from normal to ohshitfuckcrashdeath!!! in a milli-second. When I went, the set was just a basic star-trek console and simple actors saying the things the pilots did. The only sound effect was a massive subwoofer hidden under the seats which went off for the first crash - I jumped! It was great! :-) They have even used this play in trainings at flight schools. Cloud layer was at 1000 feet with it dropping to around 700 feet at times. I was in the middle of relaying some info to a follow on P-3 up high when I saw a seaplane pop out of the clouds just outside my window. I believe I said "oh fu.......". I grabbed the controls from the co-pilot, did some pilot shit then proceeded to unstrap and beat the shit out of my sensor operator that was asleep instead of scanning for Mode 3's.

I was on a 727 on final into La Guardia in the late 1960s ( I was a wee lad). Apparently some fucking retard in a single engine prop plane decided that the air over those big runways was a lovely place to do lazy turns and show off the NY skyline to his passengers. The pilot had to do what pilots do to earn their money, but I remember seeing the small plane just outside the window -- probably 75 feet away -- as everything not strapped down flew into the air, and the 727 did things that were not intended by its designers. I think my mom kissed the pilot on the way out. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at January 02, 2013 10:24 PM (GsoHv) 174

Box a CNC and loading robot like a coin operated toy that spits out fully machined 80s. Posted by: Buzzsaw at January 02, 2013 10:46 PM (qo244) Actually, that could be funnier than hell. Imagine freestanding vending machine selling 80% lowers. Comes out on a tray. Grab it, walk around to the other side, insert 80% lower and $10 -- it autoloads to a CNC machine and asks you to push the button. Spits it out, and off you go. Okay, so here's what I really came here to share with you, my fakey internet friends. I was able to finalize my payroll deduction spreadsheets for the staff (uh, me) today. As of now, I will be taking home just short of $200 per month less than I took home in 2012, making the same money, working the same job. Add that to the $200 per month increase in my health insurance over what it was in July 2012 and that shitfuckwadasswipe Obama is now stripmining me for close to $400 in disposable income per month. For some people, that is going to be the difference between sink or swim. And when I see their sweet tears of outrage, I will simply say, well, now you are paying your fair share.

Since you're the syphilitic cunt that accused me of being a rapist twice right here on this very blog (thought I forgot?), I know very well what sort of person you are. You're way out of my league, little flea, I know very well how to deal with psycho bitches. It doesn't entertain me andI have nothing to learn from it. I have no interest in interaction with you; your type is a dime a dozen. I guess this is just another one of your Mean Girl attacks where you act all hurt after you start a fight, and then search for white knights to come defend you. And exactly how, I asked two years ago, when this 2% less SS withholding started, would this be a "hiring incentive", as was stated at the time, when the employer didn't get anything? That whole payroll tax holiday was totally worthless. And it might have worked, slightly, if the 2% reduction was on the employer's side. My only hope is that theFSA blame this on Obama. But they won't. It will be the same "evil Republicans'" fault, again. *sigh*

Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr. Gore, who owned 20 percent of Current. Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. http://tinyurl.com/b45keqj Posted by: kbdabear at January 02, 2013 11:50 PM (wwsoB) 520

It's late, internet peeps. I think we're in a better place than we know, and that our enemies will devour themselves before their plans are fulfilled. They're ruthless and clever, but dumber than a box of rocks.
I'll leave you with something I ran across a couple of days ago, with a hat tip to David Warren. Even you non-Christians might enjoy it. From Cardinal Newman: I am a link in a chain, a bond of connexion between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments. Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about. Enby out. In the anime cons, Vic who is the voice of Ed in Full Metal Alchemist, will never amount to anything by itself. He has signed it too many times. ***** We all assume that insurance covers the bank's losses in the event of foreclosure or a short-sell. Such is not the case. They actually get paid the full amount the moment the first payment is missed. Yes. When the first payment is missed. That means that when they foreclose and sell the home every penny they make is pure profit. If they leave a homeowner in the home, it would take years to make the same amount of money. I paid $10k in defending against foreclosure and never once asked them to waive a single penny, including their attys fees. The only thing I asked was that they refinance me to make the payments manageable. They refused. I fought for two years while they repeatedly lost paperwork, showed up unprepared at required mediation, etc... Then I had a new friend who works with a non-profit spill the beans to me. I know that I was under contract and that I must pay my bills to keep my home, but I assure you that I did everything but get on my hands and knees to keep that house and they rebuffed me at every turn. It was maddening. Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at January 03, 2013 01:03 AM (piMMO) 722

At least 50% of the houses in my development could be foreclosed on if the banks cared to. There was an initial flurry a few years ago, then it mostly stopped. Every mortgage in this place is underwater. All of them. People haven't started paying again. The banks started realizing this market ain't coming back and they don't want to be the ones the tax bills and code violation notices get sent to. They'd have to book huge losses admitting these loans are in fact dead. Plus, vacant houses quickly become effectively worthless as they're stripped and gutted, and trashed by the FSA as soon as it becomes apparent its vacant. DAve, yes, it was a Kfir, but it is often referred to as an F-21. The Israelis sold a batch of early Kfir C2s to the USMC as aggressors, where they were designated F-21As. I'm pretty sure N404AX wasn't one of those birds, but all Kfirs in the US tend to be informally referred to as F-21s.

**** The banks will not just accept payments. They want all attys fees and back payments in a lump sum. That means that folks such as myself, trying to get back on track, cannot. I was told that I probably could have lived in my house for another couple of years without making payments but after all I went through, I did a voluntary foreclosure and they agreed to wave any deficiencies. 3+ years without paying at the house across the street from me. They're doing that all over this development. New trucks/cars/SUV's all over the place, huge new TVs, all being bought because they're not making a mortgage payment anymore. I live in CA, which is a no-recourse state. Meaning the only way the bank can get its money back is if the house sells at a price that covers the debt. People are doing this in my neighborhood as well. The next door neighbor and his wife just bought matching black BMWs, and they haven't made a payment in 18 months. I'm not sure how you get a car loan if you don't pay on your home loan. The husband is up front about it too - "There's nothing the bank can do, so we don't pay." The situation only improved, unfortunately, after I was no longer supporting my mom, but by then I was too deep in. Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at January 03, 2013 02:01 AM (piMMO) 770

758 I have been on the "razor edge" 3 times since 2011. So loved those 3-a-day calls from the bank with increasingly aggressive phone hammerheads.....all doing the bank's bidding so I always tried to never take it out on them...my problem after all...right? Still...there were some that would have been prime "Death Star" targets....if I only had one..."They TRUELY just wanted to "F" with me..and see if they could mind-"F" me into a rage......yet I NEVER bit. 771 Sorry, not a DOC...just one fucking HELL of a nurse.....35 years and counting. SHIT most of the DOc"s I work with......I have shoes that are older.....and they know it and give me the props....which makes it a full time job keeping my ego in check while on duty.... jus sayin... So, they try to basically shame and frustrate you into leaving the house. If you walk away and do a voluntary foreclosure, they sell. If you do a short-sell, you do the work for them. Either way, they hang in there until they get the house without having to argue before the courts. 774 Yet, I'm still here tonight, on my computer, in my bedroom, in my house, with a roof over the heads' of my family that depends on me to keep it so. I have had too many 11th hour close calls to count. I have had some miracles from family and friends that are rooting for me and I am humbled by this. Which is why after posting here, I lay myhead down, sleep some and wake up focused on the goal of paying the bills with my talents and my sweat... EVERY FUCKING DAY TIL I DIE!!!! Posted by: and irresolute at January 03, 2013 03:00 AM (DBH1h) Quite a few descriptors come to mind, but "a hoot" isn't one of them. Numbing depression would be accurate. Posted by: 98ZJUSMC Waiting for the Sun at January 03, 2013 03:54 AM (xHrqx) 782
