The only true hangover cure would be the rapid removal from office of Choom Boy and the crooked knaves of Congress.

That anyone but a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat could find anything to cheer about in last night's vote shows how abysmally stupid Americans have become. New taxes, higher rates for existing taxes and no attempt to reign in the Traitor-in-Chief's uncontrolled spending mania can only hasten the demise of our once-great nation.

I am certain the response of so-called conservative politicians and bloggers will be more talk, deadly dull anal-ysis and no action.

Leave the tax cuts to the bottom 3 brackets and no increases to the top two.

But of course, we Vidkun Boehner will be taking names. Fuck him, Cantor and McCarthy. Let them be purged and let a bill be presented that should have been presented weeks ago be passed.

get some training; shoot different types of guns. Find the gun that fits you best; some semiautomatics, like a 1911 or similar, are real hogs. There are compact versions of many popular handguns. Choose the gun that gives you stopping power plus conceal-ability and that is easy to use. You might like one of the smaller Glocks.

Exactly. The best gun is the one you are comfortable using.

Find a local range, talk to the owners and then shoot different things until you find what you like. Then practice, practice, practice.

It depends on a number of factors.

In general, getting out of debt is always good. But the method of doing so also matters.

For starters, do you have a monthly budget that is written out every month? With every dollar that cones in accounted for and spent before it arrives? If not, start there.

Then you'll understand your particular situation far better.

I too am leaning towards the need for congress to be bOund by constitutional requirements. The influence of income tax revenue and direct election of senators have made both houses unable to self-regulate.

Additionally, the house has not increased in 100 years. The constitution should mandate a ratio, say, 1 rep per 300,000 persons. Maybe even 100,000.

149 #128: H&K P30S. 30 years' military service, law enforcement service, and shooting has proven to me that the H&K P30S is as close to "the" perfect weapon as I can find. I wish I'd had it while I was a Marine and deputy sheriff:

- Comes in 9mm or .40 cal.
- A true ambidextrous pistol: slide release, mag release and safety on both sides.
- In-handle complete disabling of weapon by special key (a.k.a.: "kid-safe mode").
- Polymer lower end.
- Picatinny rail.
- Bright three dot sites.
- "Chambered round" flag.
- Easy to disassemble.
- Magazine release can be access by thumb while firing single handed, or by forward-hand thumb while in a Weaver stance (two-handed).
- 15 round magazine.
- Customizable grip package (can shape the grip to the user's preference).
- Double action first shot; semi-auto fire after that.
- Constant trigger pull weight (Doesn't cycle to other weights like most double-action pistols).
- Hammer de-cocker button (Allows weapon to go to half cock or no cock without pin falling while round is chambered).
- Short-length slide (not sub-compact).
- Excellent balance while empty and with loaded magazine.

This weapon costs about 1/3 more than similar-type semi-autos, but has many more truly useful and needed features. It is worth spending the extra cash on. You will not be disappointed.

This whole gun debate has got me to rethink. What would you morons suggest for an ette ?

Every feature on a pistol is a compromise. Larger caliber =
heavier, less rounds, more recoil and harder to conceal. Smaller caliber = more rounds, lighter, less recoil, easier to conceal. Heavier gun = less felt recoil, lighter gun = more felt recoil.
Just pick carefully. Generally one that is comfortable in the hand will be your choice, but be careful of caliber.
From an old man who just had to have the newest thing out, but went back to my first choice, A .380 that I can carry in my shirt pocket and I can shoot well. I’ve spent more on ammo practising than the firearm originally cost.

154 The hangover remedy is aspirin and fluids. Your liver uses a lot of water to process the alcohol you drank last night. So rehydrate with fluids to open up those capillaries, and take aspirin for the headache.

162 #150: I'd recommend a lady choose a caliber first, preferably something that's lose to what their mate or nearest ammo source might use. That's the military and LE approach for standardization. It's a good idea to think that way locally, too.

Then choose a weapon that fits grip next. The grip should be adjustable with a changeable backstrap and side grips that can be thicker or thinner. A good gun dealer will actually set the demo gun up right there and let the buyer try the different grips as they go through the selection process (Ladies: Never buy from a dealer who doesn't talk with you about how the weapon feels in your hand).

Then think about where the weapon will spend 50 percent of its life or more. If it's in the gun safe, then length and weight won't matter much. As far as weight goes, the weights of guns these days are all pretty close between polymer and all-metal frames If it's in a purse or waistband, then choose a short or medium slide length.

The think about the sites. The sights should be big out of the box: two dots on back and a big one on the blade.

Work the slide if it's semi-auto to be sure you can work it. If it's got a stiff spring and you can't work it readily, especially if it's double action and has a long trigger pull you can't work, then that's not the weapon for you.

Guys tend to buy weapons as though they're going to be in a drawn out gunfight against criminals trying to steal their food and rape their cats (or ATF agents stealing their guns and raping their cats; your call). They don't have the real scenario in their head at the time of purchase: they'll be dialing 911 with one hand and holding a pistol at hip level (or pointed at the floor) while a burglar's fumbling to unhook the TV from the DVD player). Women aren't going hunting for the bad guy; they'll be locked in the kid's bedroom with the phone in hand calling the cops. If the burglar comes to the door, they'll probably shoot through it. That said, a light or a laser isn't really needed, but it's a good idea to have a Picatinny rail on a home gun in case they get into it and go to the range a lot or practice "shoot/don't shoot" scenarios.

Just a few thoughts. There's really no magic formula, just lots of things to consider.

165 @81: First, organize your debt by total of what's owed. Pay off the small first, then roll over the extra cash to the next debt on your list. Pay off revolving credit (store cards) and credit cards first as any late payments will trigger higher interest rates. Get rid of fixed rate auto/motorcycle notes next, then non-government backed student loans after that. Then get rid of gov-backed loans (otherwise when the gov rate goes up, your payments will be wiped out). I put gov-backed student loans last because that's a fiscal bubble that's starting to pop right now and you might be able to get commercial and gov-backed student loans rolled into a direct gov reconciled loan (go to the gov's education site to find out, if applicable).

Paying off a house is not a smart idea as the data shows you'll lose in the long run by forsaking market investments that will pay higher return to be house poor in an investment that simply won't capitalize at a rate that's worthwhile to bank for retirement. You'll also lose the mortgage interest deduction for taxes.

Don't buy gold or silver. The price is too high. Build savings to cover 6 months of expenses in case you get injured or lose your job. Keep no more than $100K in any single bank account (FDIC protection limits). In general, fix your transportation rather than buying new cars/trucks; do most of your own maintenance if you can.

Keep an eye on impulse and wasteful spending. If you don't need it, don't buy it. Think about free resources and cheap activities to fill your needs and time: libraries, walking/running, bartering, etc.

As a shootist, I've cut back on my expenditures by practicing with a blue gun, a .177 air pistol, and practicing with my bow. When prices go down on ammunition (once the current panic subsides), then I'll start shooting as much as I used to.

Just a few thoughts that have helped me and the missus save a nice nest egg and get rid of nearly all debt (We only have a relatively small mortgage).
