2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, December 30, 2012. On this day in 1853 the US purchased app 30,000 sq miles of land from Mexico in what is today Southern AZ and NM in what became known as the Gadsden Purchase. Today the Mexicans are taking that land back in a similar manner as how the Texicans to Texas from Mexico. Only they will not need to have an “Alamo moment”. We will give it to them, along with citizenship.

I guess we will see if a black Latino will be prosecuted for killing an Indian now as a hate crime. My guess is that given all the talk of mumbling incoherency in the press she will walk as a mental case and be on the streets again in less that a year of the trial.

Under the most likely scenario, Republicans will get nothing — nothing — in return for giving in on tax rates for the highest-income Americans. No spending cuts, at least no serious spending cuts beyond what are already included in sequestration, would be part of the deal done on Sunday or Monday, if that is indeed what happens.

And I busted my wipers while trying to clear the snow off them. So I've got to replace them and then go in to work to prep for a 7.30 meeting that my fat ass got roped into putting together. 28 Vic, regarding that article on stupidly optimistic employees, I saw another article yesterday in Business Insider which said that, contrary to expectations, Medicare spending was down for the last 3 years.

Slap mesilly if I am wrong, but isn't the reason Medicare spending is down is because the government took money out of the account and is denying payments for certain things?

I don't think it is because there are fewer people on Medicare or fewer people getting sick.

The article, however, acted like this was a reason for thinking that entitlements weren't as bad as had been feared and that we might get the debt under control.

There have been reports that they off-set Obamacare for OMB purposes by robbing Medicare but that was supposed to be "down the road" before they started actually robbing it.

IOW the off-set was going to be canceled later and it was an Obama/Pelosi lie from the get-go.

"In conclusion, I can spare those Americans who want me deported a lot of effort by saying this: If you don’t change your gun laws to at least try to stop this relentless tidal wave of murderous carnage, then you don’t have to worry about deporting me.
Although I love the country as a second home and one that has treated me incredibly well, I would, as a concerned parent first – and latterly, of a one-year-old daughter who may attend an American elementary school like Sandy Hook in three years’ time – seriously consider deporting myself."

43 From the optimistic employees link

While employees are going into the New Year happy and loyal, that
doesn’t mean the sentiment will hold steady if employers fail to offer
fair compensation, job growth and development, promotional opportunities
and a flexible work schedule, says Link, noting companies have to stay
focused and committed to keeping workers engaged. “As optimism
increases, employee engagement will be increasingly important for
companies’ retention efforts.

Because employers are really really going to work hard to retain you when they have a almost unlimited supply of unemployed workers to throw at the job. Who will probably work for less money...a 27 hour work week...and won't piss and moan if they know what's good for them.

He's not weak; he projects weakness internationally and refuses to act because he knows it is bad. He spends not because he is a liberal, but because he aims to crash our economy.

I defy anyone to point out one thing that he has done for the US which is good for the country. And don't give me bin Laden, because I am convinced that was done without his participation.

50 The Piers Morgan Gospel, Year 2100:

"It's Sunday, the day the Lord Barack made for rest. Mainly so he himself could play golf, because he needed someone who could caddy. The evil Republican made people work eight days a week back then, instead of just being supported by the rich as now. That was back when the rich were allowed to roam free, molesting good hard-working people. The "Tax-fairness enchainment" decree of the Warren era, during the interregnum before The Glorious Return of the Lord (after the press repealed the 22nd Amendment of the Lord's Ever-Living Water of Life Constitution), took care of that. About the evil GOP and the eight days of work--People had to invent their own time machines to squeeze in the extra day back in them days, rather than have one sent to them from Barack, District of Obama (which the racists once called Washington, because they never gave up trying to enslave all the black people. Which is why the Lord Barack finally got tired of typical white people--not just the rich--and gave them a righteous scourging with the De-Emancipation Act of 2040. The twenty years they give now to community service has done wonders for everyone, as has their being ineligible for public assistance, in remembrance of the days when black and brown folks wandered in the desert and the vanilla side of town didn't care.)"

Whiledoing an assessment of a patient that I had recently, I came to find out that they waited 45 minutes before coming to the hospital with chest pain. I asked why they waited so long (as time is muscle) and the patient replied that they had difficulty seeing in the dark, so they called all their friends to see if they would bring the patient to the hospital. I asked why the patient didn't just call 911, and the patient replied that Medicare denied payment on the last ambulance trip for chest pain and that ambulance rides aren't cheap.
I can also tell you that when putting a reason for a diagnostic proceedure, such as lab work or an x-ray, we can't put "rule out"on the form, or once again, Medicare will refuse to pay for it. Of course, if I knew said patient actually had pneumonia, why would I need an x-ray? Fucking Medicare is just looking for ways to deny claims.

Posted by: Vic at December 30, 2012 08:57 AM (53z96)

70 It is true about the 911 calls and Medicare denying them. I had to call 911 in 2003 because my mother looked like she was having a stroke, but it was a diabetic one, her blood sugar was 15. They came, raised her blood sugar, and she did not want to go to the hospital. I was here the whole time, and my brother who lives downstairs was too. I agreed to keep her up and make her eat every few hours and take her blood sugar.

Medicare wouldn't pay the bill unless she was admitted to the hospital. I fought it with Medicare and won but the ambulance company refused the reimbursement. I had to make arrangements with the ambulance company to pay the, I think, $950 bill each month. It may have been more or less. It was approximately that amount.

79 Daily Kindle deals: Pure goodness. Free (or nearly so) escapism on a daily basis. Too many chick books though.

One of out favorite co-bloggers had a reason for that. 80% of the book market is women. Of course that becomes self-perpetuating if all they push is women's books.

80 55 There may be less than meets the eye to that XO that SCOAMF signed giving raises to Congress and federal employees. On one of yesterday's threads one of the morons pointed out that the current Continuing Resolution expires is March 2013 and with it the freeze on government pay so it's rather like SCOAMF signing an XO that dictates that Saturday will be followed by Sunday.

82 My dad had to use the ambulance several times during the last few years of his life (he died in 2002). There was one trip that was denied, and we got a bill for $800. I called the ambulance company to question it, and they said they would look into it.

I never heard back from them, and I never paid the bill. I feel a little bad about it, since they were always there for him and I can afford to pay it. But I've maintained a $35/year subscription to the ambulance company ever since.

According to a GP with a lot of Hospice/nursing home patients, if a (medicaid?) Patient is admittted for heart failure, pneumonia, and one other condition common in the elderly which I forget, and then released Medicaid will not pay if they are admitted for *anything* in the next 3 months.

84 The romance book market has been infiltrated by soft porn and vampires.

It is not safe to buy a Regency romance without checking, as often I will have to skip pages of very badly written sex scenes which are NOT romantic but rather clinical in nature. This spoils the story and puts me in a bad mood.

At least the vampire books give you fair warning.

What's worse is the patient lives alone, so if it goes from chest pain to a heart attack to heart failure, said patient is in a world of hurt. I explained to the patient that where the heart is concerned, better safe than sorry. Also related a story about my dad getting chest pain and driving himself to the ER. He got there, was taken into one of the exam from, sat down on the exam table and then his eyes rolled back in his head and he fell back onto the table and promptly coded. My coworkers managed to save him and he his fine now, but it could have been a different story if his heart had failed while driving to the hospital.

I think with the advent of the wildcard teams, fans hope and expectations are that "there" team will get in, and then the skies the limit for them.

The team has played at best mediocre for the entire season. Let them die, so we can get on with enjoying watching some well played games.

That is a ruling for all of Obamacare and Medicare now, if I remember correctly. It's a cost-saving measure for the government, because we all know that hospitals are admitting fake pneumonia patients in order to get more of the Medicare largesse.

Sixteen years ago, I did the same thing. The doctor looked like he was about to hit puberty. He asked me --in his best better than thou Dr. voice (I'm sure he practiced in the mirror) -- "what brings you in?"

I told him I thought I had an appendicitis. He got a big shit eating grin on his face and told me "Oh, I didn't know you were a doctor."

I told him there was not a chance in hell he was going to cut on me and I called my doc's office on my cell phone.

They are not totally delusional if they work for the government.

As the rest of the economy falters the federal government workforce has increased 11% in the last four years.

Why?

I'm curious why the same group of folks who were defending Capitalism when the OWS thugs were demonizing AIG execs or Bain Capital execs etc have decided that they know how much the chief investment officer of an organization with $7.3 billion in assets should make.

Non-profits are market-driven just like for-profits. Why should market forces be what dictate compensations for businesses but not for charities?
