Obama, Who By the Way Has Schemed to Take Us Over the Cliff For a Year, Is About to Take Us Over the Cliff;
Will Address Nation at 5:45 Eastern

The big meeting resulted in nothing but a photo op for Obama, which was his goal.

Despite claims he would offer a counter-offer, he did no such thing, and simply demanded that Boehner pass his original offer.

32 I think Obama my tell the American people that there's some sort of crisis looming.

Like a father who sits down at the dinner table and tells his wife and kids that the household is spending double what it takes in. And that the only way to keep the house and the cars and the clothes and the food, is to open up as many credit cards as possible and try to out run them.

Happens at kitchen tables all over the country. It's very American.

Yeah we can see where that is going, but here is something that boggles my mind.

The milk cliff. http://tinyurl.com/the-milk-cliff

So apparently they passed a law in 1949 for milk to be a minimum price per gallon based on some stupid formula in which every year they have to pass a bill to re-adjust it. So people are worried milk will rise to $8/gallon.

My question is "Instead of adjusting the formula year after year, why not just get rid of the 1949 law?"

(Subsidies is probably the answer.)

Your government spends too much money, our debt has exceeded the production of the entire country, and while deficit spending has been bad for decades, it went out of control in 2007. What happened in 2007? You voted the Democrats into power in both the House and the Senate. They proceeded to spend like drunken crack whores with stolen checkbooks, and this "fiscal cliff" nonsense is the result. Government is not taking too little from your families, it's spending too much on its whims and fever-dreams. 79 The fact of the matter is nobody's taxes will really go up. Even if we go over this supposed fiscal cliff it will be temporary. Tax rates will revert back in January. Worse thing that happens is 1 or 2 paychecks have more withholding which won't matter in the long run since it just means a bigger refund to make up the difference. Someone making $50K a year will see $100 less per biweekly paycheck on the 15th and 30th of January. Not the end of the world.

However Obama will get the credit for lowering taxes for the middle class. Bye bye Bush tax cuts, Hello Obama tax cuts. And the low info, low IQ voter will forever remember how the Great Barrack Obaam lowered my taxes. And in 2016 when Hillary runs on helping the middle class, just like Obama did, she won't be laughed out of the room.

Higher taxes are good for the economy right? They pay for things, right? That's the gov't's money anyway, right? Tax cuts for anyone is 'spending' according to Dickwad. So no tax cuts ever again, right? Give Obama what he wants: higher taxes.

FUCK!!! IT'S SO FUCKING SIMPLE!!!!

106 The GOP would have been better off not negotiating at all and instead just put up each and every plan Obama came up with for a full vote in the house only to be voted down one after another (with bipartisan opposition). Eventually, people would see just how unserious Obama is about fiscal responsibility.

He probably knows that mathematically speaking, "The Rich" don't have enough money to fund his redistributionist bullshit even if you taxed them all at 100%. To paraphrase Willie Sutton, he needs to go "where the money is" the middle class, to get the kind of money he needs. But this is politically intolerable.

Soooo...

He allows the Bush tax cuts to end by making his only offer poisonous to Republicans. He thinks he will divert blame for middle class tax hikes to the GOP because they "insisted on protecting the rich from higher taxes" instead of "compromising." The Pantload MSM will back him fully on this, NEVER actually making clear what kind of shit sandwich Obama actually demanded the Republicans eat as a "compromise."

And dammit, he'll probably succeed because of the fucktard MSM covering for him and the general stupidity of the populace. He'll get his massive tax increase on the middle class and convince the retard-Americans that it was all the GOP's fault. WIN WIN!!!!

Remember during the presidential campagn how the media harped on the "fiscal cliff', hounding Romney about it, giving Obama a pass on it after asking Romney pointed questions about the "fiscal cliff" in the debates. Remember how the "fiscal cliff" figured so promently in the issues that both conventions had speakers mentioning it during their speaches? Remember when the deal first went through back in 2011 how Obama and Boehner said that tthey would have to eventually deal with the outcome because it created a "fiscal cliff"

Pretty much. Which is why actually going over the cliff makes some sense. You get some cuts (as the lefty like to argue....its toooo much austerity) and Obama and the left get their vaunted tax hikes.

So, why is everyone complaining.......everyone wants to cut spending, and the left always wants to raise taxes. So, you get to do both.

Hell, going over the cliff may actually, actually, result in reduced government spending and less debt.

220 Want to bet that Reid/Obama propose to 'fix' this by raising the amounts of "EITC" and the ceilings to get them? In fact I sorely hope that congress has to specify the EITC stuff or Barry will just instruct the IRS to do it and laugh as the economy tanks.

I did a little math yesterday and our sticky fingers government grabs an extra $435+1500+2790 on everyone with taxable income over 178.7 by having the higher rates on the bottom 3 brackets instead of only raising the rates on the marginal income over that amount for the top 2 brackets.

Plus they will probably declare that everyone with over 85K is RICH and needs to pay that extra $435+$1500 +31% rather than 28% on dollars over 85K to be paying "their fair share"

I wonder if a measurable # of tax payers will decide to 'sit in the snow'? I sorely doubt the GOP politicians will do so unless the actual bill payers force them to it.

228 OT but not really. I finally blew a gasket last night and told one of our oldest friends off. This guy, the best man in our wedding, lover of Bill Mahar and all things NPR/Comedy Central, came into my home, sat down, and proceeded to explain to me that the Benghazi affair was nothing more than an unfortunate incident that even the sister of the navy seal killed held no malice. He, of course, *saw the interview*. Out of the blue. Topic brought up and dropped in our laps.

After years of listening politely, or barely refuting anything he said out of concern for the relationship, I'd had enough and blasted him with fact after fact, with the husband punctuating each with facts I'd forgotten. He sat red faced, a smug smirk on his face, rolling his eyes as if I were a demented infant. When I got to the part about Obama being the only one who could have forced Africom to stand down, thus dooming the ambassador, he laughed.

I just blew. End of relationship. What troubles me is not that he didn't have it coming, but that this past four years of this JEF has divided our country so bitterly that it is taking an active toll on the fabric of society, and I got sucked in. Four years ago, we never discussed politics. Now I feel like I have to walk on eggshells, or simply not attend social functions where any topic pertaining to that shitstain excuse of a president is likely to be raised, for fear of burning my bridges.

Well, burned they are. So fuck 'em. Make them eat the shit sandwich they all voted for. I am so sad for this country. And sad for myself.

If an individual borrows for a home, car, boat, etc to the point that their check is claimed for before it arrives, every little unexpected event will set them back huge.

If a business tries to leverage through debt to try to grow their business, and growth comes up just one percent short of where they expected, the whole thing unravels fast.

These are simple mathematic realities, yet we have 52% that actively endorse the governments continued growth and want to fund it by actions that will reduce private growth and GDP. We're screwed.

It's annoying enough as is, but as a quick aside, here's the thing that really sets me off about this. The twist of the knife or salt in the wound. These 52% that ignore simple mathematics willfully tend to be the same people that sneer at people who won't fully embrace the climate change pseudo-science that the big government types push so hard on us.

If you're skeptical that we have this climate change thing all figured out already, well then you're just some uneducated conspiracy nut, but you're ALSO a conspiracy nut if you like to talk about the financial collapse that is staring us right in the face. Science is to be worshipped, math is to be ignored.

Never in his career has Barack Obama had to work with members of the
GOP. He's always got whatever he wanted... in IL, in the Senate, and
when his big bills passed pre-2010.

Plus, in spite of his Marxist daddy and whore mother abandoning him, everyone else in his life has patted him on his head and told him what a special snowflake he is. Oprah declared him "the One we have been waiting for."

The low-information/un-informed voters totally bought it. And continue to. Damn them all.

Boehner isn't a fighter.
He never has been.

He didn't even have to fight for the position of power that he now enjoys.
He made his way up, through the ranks, by making deals...not by fighting hard for anything.

So it's like we've got a general, who's never seen real combat.
And it shows.

this makes no sense, we're talking about a Congressional GOP that with a few exceptions from the usual suspects in the Senate has been united in opposing pretty much everything Obama's done or tried to do. the fact that Boehner doesn't want to go kamikaze in this particular circumstance doesn't damn him to RINOdom.

But for the left, science is the same thing as ideology - that which is said by the Approved Correct People must be obeyed without question.

When you question it, they resort to insults, death threats, and other social punishments (until they get enough power, at which point they start following up on those threats).

Math is sticky for them because ultimately it either adds up or it doesn't, but they do the same thing with math as they do with science and ideology - approved people (like Krugman) are followed, unapproved people (like Friedman) are ignored or subjected to shallow and ignorant ridicule.

"Basically, Obama is saying that if there is no deal, if Boehner and McConnell don't allow a vote, he's going to go to town on them—that he's prepared to use the entire weight of the presidency to hold them accountable for being obstructionists. And don't forget: he's got the inauguration and the state of the union to follow through on his threat."

Obama has nowhere to hide the trillion dollar tax hike coming January 1st from Obamacare.

Going over the cliff is simply cover for that increase. Obama is hoping people conflate taxes going up with Congress. in particular Republicans.

Suddenly the most powerful position in the world takes a back seat to...Congress?

Nah. I'm happy places like Chicago exist. As instructive examples of what not to do.

In 2012, the population of Chicago fell again. As it has been steadily falling for some years now. It is now down to a level last seen in the 1920s, startlingly enough.

Because productive individuals and profitable businesses are getting the hell out of that city.

It's the next Detroit. In another quarter-century, you'll be seeing photo essays on "The Ruins of Chicago", just as you see them today for the pathetic remnants of the Motor City.

380 I'm beginning to see the whole of Washington being blamed. JEF is spouting the need for leadership when he IS the leader. Even the most ignorant American cannot keep blaming a single party for the pain that will be inflicted.

You are wrong. They can, and they will. The media proclaims that the D's are the Good Guys and the R's are the Bad Guys, and they believe it.

Our republican form of government was based on a civic-minded elite. That elite is gone. It's been replaced by an "elite" interested solely in wielding power. Oh, I'm sure the elite credits itself with the best of intentions: but power is what they're after. And they pretty much have what they want, right now. What we're seeing now is the end-game.
