Chuck Hagel's Defenders All Agree: The Man Might Not Actually Be Qualified to be Secretary of Defense, But On the Other Hand, He Is Laudably Antisemitic

No one has anything positive to say about Chuck Hagel -- except to put in a good word for his antisemtism.

Hagel's Defenders: The Best Thing We Can Say About Chuck Hagel Is That He Is Admirably Unburdened By Affection For Jews.

And Tom Friedman: The Awesome Thing About Chuck Hagel Is His Zealous, Unflinching Antisemitism.

102 Israel is an "individual rights" democracy, not a "collective rule" democracy. The former is far preferable to the latter. And why does Jordan get away with "stealing" more Palestinian land while treating the Palestinians who live there far worse than Israel does? It's almost like Israel's critics are motivated by racism or something.

I kid. They're motivated by hatred of freedom, not racism.

104 Ace, in fairness a lot of the paleocons oppose Israel out of frustration with the one law for me one law for you act the left pulls here all the time. Israel is a state with an established religion and super strict immigration laws. This does make it seem like there is one standard for gentile nations and one for Jewish nations. Basically the paleocons despite their complaints about AIPAC are really angry about the domestic political issues like immigration and national character rather than foreign policy issues. They wonder why Friedman et. al. don't bound Israel like they do Arizona.

I must have missed the part where Palestinians fired on a US ship. Maybe those on the LIBERTY didn't understand who killed their mates.

Or hey maybe it's the Palestinians who are selling US technology to China, or were caught spying on the US.

Those bastards are deep cover, very deep, pretending to be Israelis all this time.

Gordon Duff, Senior Editor at Veterans Today, observed that “America learned, long ago with the infamous Jonathan Pollard case, that secrets going to Israel end up in the hands of America’s enemies.”

According to Duff:

America’s most vital Cold War defence information, nuclear technology, air defence systems, classified weapons and even NATO defence plans in case of a Soviet invasion of Western Europe, all went to Russia as part of an arrangement between the Soviets and Israel. Pollard is doing life in prison for this.

Funny, I was thinking of the word "doofus" when Clark was mentioned above. Honestly, I don't think he hates America though, so that kind of disqualifies him. I always got the sense that he thought the D party was more like it was 30-40 years ago, and was geniuinely shocked that the rotten traitor Kerry got nominated in '04.

i agree with this but it's basically like taking out frustration with Jewish liberals in America on Israel. plus alleged hypocrisy isn't a reason for being objectively pro-Hamas.

paleocons always whine about not being relevant/being wronged by the neocons way back when but when they engage in this constant tribal mentality, bleeding into anti-Semitism, it's not hard to see why that is.

114 What is both sad and funny is that few Western leftists have the slightest clue why they have such disdain for Israel. They know they're supposed to hate it, so they dutifully comply.

The boilerplate about the poor oppressed Palestinians under an "apartheid state"? Just mindless talking points- there are far worse examples of actual oppressed minority populations they take little notice of.

Fact is, Israel used to have strong support amongst the left due to the overtly Socialist leanings it had, and still has to some extent.

Then the PLO came along. Initially they were a Marxist terror organization so naturally the Western left fell in love, as they've always had a soft spot in their hearts for Communism and its Marxist "rebels".

Of course the PLO later took up the Islamist jihadi banner, but the Western left never lost their girlhood crush on the terrorist monsters.

By 'embarrassment', I meant that Wesley Clark might do something that was too hawkish for Barky's tastes.

So then, Barky would have to jerk his reigns and do an obvious reversal...which would draw attention to his own agenda of weakening this country.

I re-watched 'Dune' the other day...for lack of anything better at the time.
The line:

132 I agree Pat (who by the way basically realizes he was an idiot to slam Republicans the way he did and is for all intents in purpose back on the reservation) doesn't care. But the point is why does the NYT care about Arizona and not Israel? Agreed the Israel is far better than its neighbors, but so is Arizona. Buchananites and Paulites really need to be separated in the public consciousness. Pat doesn't care about Hamas either that's a Paulite fascination.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 27, 2012 03:37 PM (L2co/)

134 i would guess it's because the NYT takes the American "melting pot" to mean infinite multiculturalism and is unable to see any downside to unchecked immigration while Israel was founded for a more specific purpose

i would agree that America has (had?) a cultural character that should be defended (which is still compatible with immigration, just not open borders-ism) but a lot of the GOP doesn't seem to want to do that, maybe for fear they'll be called racist.

Posted by: JDP at December 27, 2012 03:39 PM (60GaT)

135 JDP. I did a bad job of explaining their position there. Basically, it breaks down to this. Palecons look at the success the leftist media has had in mainstream things like illegitimacy and homosexuality and wonders if the left really hates Israel, how is Israel still popular in America. One option is that the media isn't trying hard enough. The next step, one Pat doesn't take for obvious reasons, but which Paulites often do is that Israel is popular because evangelicals are hick Jew lovers.

holding foreign-policy views far closer to those of most Americans than

innocuous an Eisenhower-style internationalist as one can find, albeit
with the temerity to say publicly what many were saying privately about
Iraq circa 2006.
