15 WASHINGTON (AP) — The average number of people seeking U.S. unemployment benefits over the past month fell to the lowest level since March 2008, a sign that the job market is healing.
The Labor Department said
Thursday that weekly applications dropped 12,000 to a seasonally
adjusted 350,000 in the week ended Dec. 22. The four-week average, a
less volatile measure, fell to a nearly five-year low of 356,750.
Still, the Christmas holiday may have distorted the figures.

Comrades, never in history have unemployment claims gone down before the unnamed holiday. It must be due to Comrade Chairman Barry's glorious economic recovery! P.S. Ignore the last sentence. It is counter revolutionary

24 - "Journalists Rush To Take Sides In Gun Debate"

It's all a function of demographics. We're talking first and foremost about extremely poor educational backgrounds. Journalism is one of the softest of all soft liberal arts degrees. There are no real barriers to entry. It's not as if these people have to pass the MCAT or the GRE much less a professional licensing standard. The work environments are extraordinarily cocooned. There is no higher concentration of leftism anywhere. Even K-12 education and college and university campuses are less uniformly liberal. And let's be blunt: these are not the sharpest tools in the shed from the get-go.

It all adds up.

- Ignore The Pundits, Conservatism Doesn't Need A Makeover"

Correct, it doesn't. It just needs a new voter base. One that actually votes.

36 I posted this on the last thread but it bears repeating.

President Barack Obama told ABC News' Barbara Walters that he ran for re-election because he wanted "men with guns" around as his daughters, Malia (14) and Sasha (11), begin dating boys.
The interview was the first that the President and First Lady have given since Obama's re-election in November. It aired on Nightline on December 26.
In its published highlights, ABC News has drawn attention to the Obamas' comments about keeping the romance alive in their marriage, yet those remarks were followed by this exchange:
Walters: I want to talk about the girls. we have been watching them grow up from little girls to young ladies. now, Malia recently got her first cell phone. do you want to see who she calls and who she texts?
Michelle Obama: i give my daughter at this age -- i give her a long rope. and there is monitoring because we have rules. But monitoring may be -- you never know when I'm going to walk in your room and i'm going to definitely ask you, who are you talking to and are you talking about school work? But...
Barack Obama: And they're not very good at lying. We joke sometimes about how Malia's getting to the age now, and boys start calling and, you know, sort of, I always talk about how one of the main incentives for running again was continuing Secret Service protection to have men with guns around at all times...
The interview was apparently conducted prior to the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. In her preview of the interview on December 14, which aired on Good Morning America, Walters omitted President Obama's remark about "men with guns":
George Stephanopoulos: You also got to talk about Malia and Sasha, as well.
Walters: Well, Malia has gotten a cell phone. And the President said, one of the reasons that he says one of the reasons I'm glad that I was re-elected, I have the Secret Service to keep an eye on the girls, especially now that Malia is old enough for boys to be calling.
Following the Sandy Hook shootings, Obama has led calls for sweeping policy changes, including gun control.

Idiots, the whole lot of them

There is no message save for the false narrative that's been concocted by the Leftards in the MFM. We're all knuckle-dragging, Bible-clinging, gun nuts with blood in our eyes, donchaknow. Those who support traditional values like the nuclear family with a wise father, a strong mother and obedient children, a small government that adheres to the Consitution and freedom are now "extremists".

There are only a few who can articulate conservatism, and they are always on defense.

90 The "police need to leave David Gregory alone" link seems to be busted, Ben. It brought me to a story about a store in St. Paul that's been busted for letting kids buy candy cigarettes. And, naturally, the fascist-loving scrunt running the store whines, "I didn't know. We don't want to get on the bad side of St. Paul."

Here's a thought, you useless blob of mewling estrogen - why don't you tell St Paul that they can FOAD, candy isn't illegal, selling it to kids even if it's in the shape of a Tijuana donkey show isn't illegal and if they want to stop you, your only answer will be a shotgun full of rock salt?

IMO, this is one of the major reasons conservatism is dying - people are too quick to prostrate themselves before the mighty power of The State, even when the state clearly has no goddamn business doing three-quarters of what it does.

94 Well, I can certainly understand Toure's feelings if he is not a Christian, for Santa Claus is merely training wheels for an introduction to a more complicated belief system--that there is perhaps someone who is out there who, if the character be good, might give an unearned present.

Thus, telling kids about Santa Claus as if he is a real man coming down the chimney all depends on if you wish to forever deny any chance that there might be something out there in the universe that might be looking out for us. If so, then no, I wouldn't do it, because it leads to nothing but "why did you lie?"

Perhaps in that case, for this new age, those not of the Christian nature can substitute "Saint Barack" for Saint Nicholas, but in that case the gift of presents depends upon your membership in groups, not character.

Sort of.

Henceforth (or Hencefifth, even) we shall be referred to as "A Fap of Morons." It has been duly entered into the AoSHQ Style Guide, p. 4,387, paragraph 3. Jackson's tenure was marked by high-profile brawls with industry and congressional Republicans over such issues a global warming pollution, the Keystone XL oil pipeline and new controls on coal-fired plants.
She says she's leaving the agency, in her words, "confident the ship is sailing in the right direction."

First, Jones is not a conservative and Amash votes with the Democrats so often that he might as well be one of them. That's why culture is so important. Culture drives politics. So the real trick, and the important thing that everyone should actually have been focusing on, is making good ideas popular.

When good ideas are popular, politicians will fall all over themselves to pretend that they've always supported them.

In that sense, drug laws are as compassionate as welfare. We want to protect people from their own stupidity, which has the effect of reducing the utility of not being stupid.

Which hurts the people that allegedly we want to help in the long run, but has the even worse consequence of allowing them to continue to inflict their stupidity on the rest of us. While I'm opposed to all forms of welfare (but not charity), if we're going to have welfare, we should at least prohibit the recipients of welfare from voting.

I was so tempted to ask his opinion about Michigan going right-to-work, but didn't want to get kicked out in the snow before dinner...

"They're in the 23rd century and these people are from Earth. The Earth needed to play more of a role in these movies, especially in the sense of giving the audience a degree of relatability. I think that in the same way that New York City becomes this anchor point for people in the Marvel movies; that's Spidey's stomping ground, that was the stomping ground for Tony Stark, that was the stomping ground for The Avengers, it's New York. We wanted to do the same thing with Earth in the Star Trek movies."

Moral people do not need a government. They know the difference between right and wrong. They always strive to live up to the standards they set for themselves, are slow to anger and quick to forgive others. They follow the Golden Rule and have rules for themselves that they follow willingly, without the force of law. Such people have no need for a government, as they already know how to live in harmony with other like-minded folk. They understand that government is a necessary evil, required only because there are others who have no inner standard of living.

Some members make a point of holding leadership accountable while offering alternatives (e.g., Jim Jordan) while others mostly whine. Having observed both Huelskamp and Amash, both spent/spend a great deal of time complaining (even running to liberal outlets) and the former has/will speak out of both sides of his mouth if it helps him politically. He was also stripped of his assignment on the KS Ways and Means and played the victim the same way he is now. As for Amash, his pet issue this Congress has been further cutting defense spending and he contributes little to Budget. Ultimately, both have displayed an entitlement mentality when it comes to committee assignments and have feigned ignorance to garner sympathy.

I just bought a used Marlin 1895 in .45-70 a couple months ago as a deer brush gun. Great rifle, but it's not remotely close to being in the same league as the .50 BMG.

Democrats think you're stupid clods who wouldn't even know how to wipe your asses on your own if you didn't have daddy gubmint to take care of you. Since you keep electing them, I can only assume you agree. Have fun with that, but don't expect my sympathy when you end up shitting in buckets instead of flush toilets after the money runs out.

249 The Senate returned to business Thursday with an increasing sense that the country will go over the so-called “fiscal cliff,” leading to higher taxes and deep spending cuts across the board.

“It looks like that’s where we’re headed,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, said in opening the Senate session, saying that he doesn’t see how any plan could be brought up in his chamber in time to beat the Jan. 1 deadline.

Senators were rushing back to town to begin debating an intelligence bill and an emergency spending measure for Hurricane Sandy relief, but they have no plans to take up any bills to deal with the fiscal cliff.

*raises hand* The snow itself isn't falling too thick -- though I've been in enough white outs to know that they ARE NOT fun -- but when the wind blows and kicks up a wall of snow, it's blinding as hell. That happened this morning on the highway coming in to work. Luckily it was just the one gust, and everyone was sticking to the 45mph reduced speed limit.

264 Lisa P. Jackson is stepping down as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency after a four-year tenure that began with high hopes of sweeping action to address climate change and other environmental ills but ended with a series of rear-guard actions to defend the agency against challenges from industry, Republicans in Congress and, at times, the Obama White House.

Ms. Jackson, 50, told President Obama shortly after his re-election in November that she wanted to leave the administration early next year. She informed the E.P.A. staff of her decision on Thursday morning and issued a brief statement saying that she was confident “the ship is sailing in the right direction.”

... in the direction of bankruptcy.

present."

Well, this Christian is with Toure on the Santa Claus thing. I wanted my kids to grow up knowing that they could rely on what I said to them: that taught them what I did because I know it to be true. What you're saying about belief systems may have been true centuries ago, when St Nicholas of Antioch was tossing purses into courtyards and rescuing kidnapped older sons; but the bearded guy in the Coca-Cola-red suit? Not so much.

Of course, my oldest nearly triggered a riot in her kindergarten class when she spilled the beans about Santa.
