| Obama To Spend $7.2 Million of Taxpayer Money For Fiscal Cliff Photo-OpAs Rodney Dangerfield said, "He really cares. About what I have no idea." So he took a 10-hour flight from DC to Hawaii last week, then he’ll take another back to DC Thursday. Once they pretend to make a deal, he’ll hop back on AF1 to resume playing golf, then will return in a couple of week for his lavish inaugural. Once all this flying is done that’ll be around 40 hours travel at a cost of at least $180,000 an hour for a tab of $7.2 million. And that’s just to fly AF1, never mind all the other ancillary costs, which probably boosts the tab to a tidy $10 million or so.Plus, as JWF notes, there's the additional cost for Michelle in Hawaii. I work with a guy who goes to the US Open Tennis matches every year. This last year, Queen Michelle was sitting with Billy Jean King in the box behind them. They were ORDERED by the Secret Service not to look at Mooch, take pictures of her, to put their cell phones away, and to face the tennis courts at all times. They had paid $300 a piece for their two tickets and did not get to enjoy the tennis because of the SS constantly barking orders to everyone in the seats around Mooch.

Tech bubble, housing bubble, tight job market, etc. Obama will leave office with high approvals, and his ugly wife will run for Senate in 2016 and win. And that will be followed by the return of terrorism that will make Al Qaeda look like Romper Room. This is *if* Obama doesn't do anything major in his second term, and I don't think he will. Posted by: soothsayer at December 26, 2012 03:52 PM (DlaLh)" As much as I think the energy boom might be enough to create something like a booming economy, I doubt that the EPA will let it happen. One of the reasons the tech boom was possible was because it was driven by industries in which the government had little interest, i.e. software and computer hardware. The energy industry doesn't have such a luxury AND it happens to be run by people who aren't SWPL hipsters like Zuckerberg, so I just don't see it having as much freedom to operate. Even then, the energy boom is concentrated in locations far from the blue cities where the housing bubble was primarily located, at least at first, which is also unlike the tech boom, which was concentrated in CA and to a lesser extent NYC. It could definitely cause some localized housing bubbles, but nothing national that I could see. That said, Obama's idiot followers seem to have inured themselves to economic hardship as long as they get to cheer on his speeches, so I don't even know if a return to the Stone Age would get them to reconsider their allegiance to him. They'd find some way to rationalize how awesome it is. Posted by: BS Inc. at December 26, 2012 04:04 PM (eP0u9) 107

Remember the 'October surprise' of Clinton's last year in office when he pushed for China to get permanent most favored trade status? Which set the conditions in place for 40,000 factories in the USA to shut down in the next decade, and is the root cause of our lingering financial difficulties. It's gonna be tough to beat that item for taking the USA now a notch or twelve, but I'm sure 0bama will come up with something just as odious. The Cloward-Piven rules these folks are playing by are pretty much exactly the same as those that were played by Richard Pryor's character in Brewster's Millions.
Spend it all, with nothing to show for it, and you win. That's what they're doing. From the CBO (or was it the GAO?) telling their staff to spend as much taxpayer money as possible -- order exorbitant art for the lobbies of your buildings and offices; order the most expensive office chairs, desks, computers; continually redesign your offices, hire feng shui consultants, architects, artists, engineers. SPEND IT ALL. Brewster's Millions. We may as well be calling the SCOAMF "Brewster on Steroids". Posted by: JDR (nee Taqiyy) at December 26, 2012 04:11 PM (e7KZr) 136

To spend or not to spend, that is a false choice. Of course we must spend. Otherwise, how will voters know who to vote for in the elections? It is the fact that the 1% or 2% or whomever is out there that has money that I must redistribute exists for me and the Federal government to tax, to ensure our perpetual power in Washington, DC. Sacrifices have to be made. And they will sacrifice for me to continue to get votes. Posted by: Barack Hussein Obama, Master of Time and Space at December 26, 2012 04:16 PM (Md8Uo) 142

You know, at least the English Patliament--at least once, back in the day when it mattered--said the Crown should live off its own. Meaning the King should live kingly off the proceeds of its own estates, not the public fisc.
I understand there are sone nice MWR facilities near Washington. Let King Barack use those, and give the $10 million to the troops, whose defense budget he is about to let be cut. Posted by: Y. at December 26, 2012 07:30 PM (uMVKH) 159
I will say this--I'm having a hard time not believing that Barack and Michele Obama have been consumed for so many years of hatred towards capitalism, think it has been so inimical to the nation, think the GOP is such a tool of it, think we just got out of the age of the robber barons, that they deliberately do this, thinking it is just revenge against folks who routinely jet around.
Just not at public expense (but they have convinced themselves they in fact did do it at *direct* public expense). I honestly think, at some level, those two are sociopaths. Or, I'm having trouble not believing it, and I'm finding it much easier to predict behavior once I do. Before, I couldn't very well.
