Posted by: J.J. Sefton at December 25, 2012 10:01 AM (XkWWK)

Don't even know what a Magyar is. There is no cream in my recipe.

2 pounds round roast, trimmed, cut 3/4" cubes
1/2 cup beef broth, 130 grams
3 tablespoons paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon caraway seed
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cups onions, 3 large onions original ( large = 524 grams)
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped - 1/4 teaspoon powder
14 1/2 fluid ounces tomato, 1 can
1/4 cup cold water
2 tablespoons flour, all-purpose
784 grams noodles, 56 gram dry per serving

1. For slow cooker brown beef in skillet before placing in cooker.

2. Add all to pot except water, flour, and noodles.

3. Cook app 1.5 hours on simmer in dutch over, 8 - 9 hours in slow cooker.

4. Better to use less onion, original recipe calls for 3 large.

5. add 1/4 cup water and flour 20 - 30 min before done and turn up heat to high.

6. cook noodles separate

The youngest of the greatest, as well as the youngest of survivors of the Shoah, are now passing into history. G-d help us when the last one goes. Santayana's words are happening more and more as each day passes.

34 Here's how Washington and his army spent the day back in '76:

We marched on and it was not long before we heard the out sentries of
the enemy both on the road we were in and the eastern road, and their
out guards retreated firing, and our army, then with a quick step
pushing on upon both roads, at the same time entered the town. Their
artillery taken, they resigned with little opposition, about nine
hundred, all Hessians, with 4 brass field pieces; the remainder crossing
the bridge at the lower end of the town escaped....

I can't quite figure him out. He's obviously a Dem, and when he went against SCOAMF's class warfare diatribe last spring it was during an election year where he was not running. He got blasted for it too by the Dems.

Obviously he now has political aspirations, but in a very blue state, so who's he trying to pander to? Is he considering a run for the presidency?

I have a friend whose nephew works in his office. The kids a total lefty, so I will have to stealthily get the truth from him. It'll take a while.

In the nuke industry the "instructions" are very detailed and written by experts using specific guidelines on how to write procedures.

Anyone caught not using the written procedures, or not following them to the letter, was severely disciplined. That included a variety of punishments including termination.

65 As a gravy expert, I never put raw flour into anything but breads.
If it's a holiday, toast a cup or so of flour in a skillet until it smells nutty and is lightly browned. Set is aside to use as needed but note it will sour after three hours.
Mix it thoroughly with some cooled liquid from whatever you're trying to thicken, then add it into the whole while whisking.
Once you've gotten the whole thing started you can lightly sprinkle more into the mix while whisking to get more thickening.

I have a friend who was an NYC cop. He came from a Hungarian background, and spoke it fluently, along with Yiddish, German, French, Hebrew, etc. Quite a talent for languages.

I remember being in the elevator with him in 580 5th Ave. (Diamond district's biggest building) and having him start chuckling. He was eavesdropping on the hasids who were gossiping in the elevator. They figured that two Americans couldn't possibly understand the mishmash of Hungarian and Yiddish that they were speaking.

I picked up a bissele Yiddish from my dad since it was the most effective way of communicating with his father in law who spoke Hungarian or broken English.

My mom refused to teach me Hungarian because she felt it would make my dad feel excluded (dumb reason) but most of all because she had a murderous hatred of the Hungarians for what they helped do to the Jews (understandable reason).

Of approximately 825,000 Jews living in Hungary in 1941, about 63,000 died or were killed prior to the German occupation of March 1944.

Under German occupation, just over 500,000 died from maltreatment or were murdered.

Some 255,000 Jews, less than one-third of those who had resided within enlarged Hungary in March 1944, survived the Holocaust.

It's dead tree right now, should be available on Kindle in about a week. Truly a surprise. I had no Idea it was on there yet. My Mom told me. I think she is more excited than I am.

86 Durning and Klugman. I always get nervous when I hear two Hollywooders going back-to-back like that.

89 My late husband was in the 1st Infantry Division and then the 101st Airborne in VN after they brought the 1st home from there. He had an Uncle who was also 101st Airborne who parachuted onto the beach at Normandy, broke his arm parachuting in at Anzio--he was a helluva guy. My husband always called him on D-Day to thank him for his service.

90 Most of our DNA is junk, it just depends on what way you define "junk." There is a relationship between sheer amt of DNA and the size of an organism.

Merry Christmas fellow morons.

That sounds like a pron name. Will get the Kindle version.

Yeah, my mom was like that too. One of the many benefits of writing a book: pleasing one's parents.

Congrats again and Merry Christmas!

92 So when Clintonactually distributed a 100,000 cops into the countries cop shops, he wasn't critized....but when the NRA wants 99000 cops to go to our schools he gets painted with the gun nut brush. What gives? Why don't the democRATS want our children to be safe? Why do they want children to be shot by crazies with guns? Why do they hate America's kids and want them killed? Why doesn't the NRA ask these questions?
