1 Just finished all the preps for today's cooking and we have the morning post up already!

so lets gets started

Good Morning and Merry Christmas Morons. Today is Tuesday, December 25, 2012. On this day in 1066 William the Conqueror was crowned King of England.

3 6 Kids injured playing with gasoline. Ordinarily I would not link this kind of story but about a year ago the neighbor’s kids came over while I was outside. The toddler was reeking of gasoline. So I asked the older girl what the idea was. She said he had been playing with the gas can for the lawnmower. I marched them all home and turned them over to mommy. Parents you have to keep a close eye on kids, especially very young ones.

7 The gunman who started the fires yesterday and shot firefighters had already served time for killing his grandmother with a hammer. Guess we need hammer control. This SOB should not have been on the street and he was already forbidden from owning a gun. Another illustration of how gun control laws only work with honest people.

I say tough titty Larry your proposal is unconstitutional. In fact, all laws that tell States “how” to vote are unconstitutional.

I'll be okay for about an hour or so, but if the coffee isn't made by then...
And it's all because no one else in my family understands how to make coffee properly - if it can't make a decent bid to escape the cup, it's not proper coffee.

21 Dang blamit! I just put up a reply in the ONT. So I'm copying it over to this shiny new thread:

Merry Christmas everyone!

I've got both boys home.....one from
the Army, the other from the Marines. My son in the Army is still in BT,
but they gave everyone ten days leave for the holidays, (instead of the
usual leave granted after completing BT), so it's a good Christmas
here. It snowed last night, so everything is white and Christmasy
looking....with more on the way tomorrow, apparently. I've already laid
in the necessary supplies of beer, and.....well, just beer, so I'm good
to go. Let it snow!

23 Merry Christmas, Vic (and any other Morons who are here at the moment)!

First cup of coffee already consumed -- I make it -- but I'm still grouchy. Yet another Christmas ruined by our own won't-go-away Grinch, Choom Boy.

A severe shortage of funds meant cutting back on Christmas gifts, but the friggin' Traitor-in-Chief gets all the prezzies he wants, and WE have to pay for 'em....

Posted by: Vic at December 25, 2012 07:11 AM (53z96)

Wow. For those who don't know, Durning was in the first wave at Omaha Beach:

(from wikipedia):
"Durning served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Drafted at age 21, he was first assigned as a rifleman with the 398th Infantry Regiment, and later served overseas with the 3rd Army Support troops and the 386th Anti-aircraft Artillery (AAA) Battalion. For his valor and the wounds he received during the war, Durning was awarded the Silver Star and three Purple Heart medals.
Durning participated in the Normandy Invasion of France on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and was among the first troops to land at Omaha Beach. In Episode S03E09 of the program Dinner for Five, which also included Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise and Charles Nelson Reilly), Reynolds spoke about Durning's service career for him, as Durning did not like to talk about it much. Reynolds revealed that Durning was in a group of gliders who overshot their landing zone and that he had to fight alone all the way back to the beach. Reynolds also stated that his own father was there fighting about 15 yards away and that Durning was probably the most decorated veteran (then) still alive from World War II. Some sources state that he was with the 1st Infantry Division at the time, but it is unclear if he served as a rifleman or as a member of one of the division's artillery battalions.

Durning was wounded by a German “S” Mine on June 15, 1944 at Les Mare des Mares, France. He was transported to the 24th Evacuation Hospital. By June 17 he was back in England at the 217th General Hospital. Although severely wounded by shrapnel in the left and right thighs, the right hand, the frontal region of the head, and the anterior left chest wall, Durning recovered quickly and was determined to be fit for duty on December 6, 1944. He arrived back at the front in time to take part in the Battle of the Bulge, the German counter-offensive through the Ardennes Forest of Belgium and Luxembourg in December 1944.

After being wounded again, this time in the chest, Durning was repatriated to the United States. He remained in Army hospitals to receive treatment for wounds until being discharged with the rank of Private First Class on January 30, 1946."

RIP Charles Durning.

May I present another word for you?

mamaluke

Urban Dictionary....Italian or Italian-American slang for someone
who did something foolish or silly. Usually aimed at males, and usually
not in an overly hostile manner. More a term to use with a friend or
family member in a teasing way that may also be a veiled insult against
their manhood.

29 Good morning Vic and a very Merry Christmas to you and all the morons here this morning. Yup, cold and rainy here in NYC. Hope Santa gave you something special, and most importantly the gifts of good health and happiness, despite our circumstances.

As to Charles Durning, what an incredibly gifted actor with a great range for both serious drama and broad comedy. His service as a GI speaks for itself, and is a sad reminder that we are losing so many of those wonderful guys who sacrificed so much for us and for what is now clearly an ungrateful and vindictive world and, most tragically of all, their own country.

And we lost Jack Klugman too yesterday.

RIP.

I suppose the elimination of the 90 day state residency requirement as proposed by the DOJ makes sense from an enforcement standpoint.

Legal residents are allowed to get drivers licenses, which is all the proof of ID you need to buy a gun currently in many states. This does not apply, of course, to states like IL and CT, where you must first obtain a Firearms Owner's ID card before anyone can buy a gun there.

A special Merry Christmas to the families of the Sandy Hook victims. I hope they can find some peace this season, and pray that time will help heal a little bit.

Without getting too maudlin, this one is special for me. I am appreciating it and everything else a little more this year.

I went to the doc for a respiratory infection a couple of weeks back when he noticed something and voila, a few tests later I find out on Friday that I am going in for open heart surgery after the holidays.

It was completely out of the blue.I thought I was healthy as a horse.

It's nothing lifestyle related, so I am going to eat and drink myself merry as hell for one last hurrah.

Take a few days off. Enjoy friends and family.

After the New Year, let's get back to doing everything we can to fight back against the TFG's war on America

84 Vic-Thanks for the answer on yesterday's killer, I was going to go to Fox News website or another one but ended up falling asleep in my comfy chair last night before I could.

That shit has to stop, Murder 2 is Murder no matter what they want to call it. Never let them out. How could one kill his own grandmother? I'll read it on Drudge or another website.

Charles During was also great as Tommy's father in Rescue Me.

LOL, I have never seen a 100° day in Reno. Most people from where I used to live in CA get fooled about the Reno elevation because you have to drive through the mountains to get there. It is at 4000 ft elevation though. Virgina City is at 6000 ft.
Last time we were there wifey got elevation sickness. Next time will go to Dr and get some pills before go.

I made the mistake of trying to drive from San Francisco to Reno in May or June some years ago. The CHP wasn't letting anyone through the pass unless they had chains on their car.

95 Is that right? Icy peaks on a 100 degree day was a bit more than I could understand. I guess at high altitudes it cools like airplanes do when you get real high.

I think the Greatest Generation's children gave us the most selfish and stupid generation!

I am one of the children of the Greatest Generation, my father was on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. He used to tell my brother stories of his army days, never did tell me though. I think it's because is because my brother was born a few years later and it was still fresh in my father's mind and I am a girl, woman, and didn't come alone until 10 1/2 years later.

I am of the Baby Boomers, Jewish, born in Brooklyn. Despite those prima-facie liberal bona fides, my dad's brother was killed in the Pacific and my mom and her family survived the death camps. Both were school teachers in Crown Heights from the 60's through the late 80's. They saw how the union went from liberal to Marxist and that too shaded my politics.

I have a deep and abiding reverence for their generation and it sickens me to death to see how a few but determined group of Quislings that they begat have stabbed us in the back.

I think the Charlie Brown's Christmas video says exactly what Christmas means to me and my family: tidings of great joy. Even more than on Thanksgiving my prayers express my gratitude for God's love in sending our Savior into the world to pay the penalty for sin and offer salvation to everyone that believes on His name.

106 I'm back. Wifey got me a new Dewalt drill. My old B7D was still working fine but my 3rd battery pack is getting weak and you can't get the batteries locally anymore. I kept saying I was going to get me a new drill and she kept saying we were spending too much and to wait until next year. Now I know why.

As for 100° days in Reno when we were there in Aug the daily highs were in the 80s and the lows were in the low 40s.

I'm sure they have some 100° days though. It is more of an elevated desert climate with warm to hot days and cool to cold nights.

That is what I also expect in Wyoming where I want to move but it really does get cold there at night in the Winter. Wifey will have none of that.

108 95 Reno is in a high altitude desert. It is the end of the plain that stretches from the Rockies to the Sierra Nevada. All Those high mountain peaks retain snow and ice most summers ( except drought years) cause it can still snow up there in June and July. In the summer it might get hot during the day but it is very cool at night. Same thing can happen in Reno.

109 The Gospel according to Saint Linus...

Always a favorite - made back when a Christmas special on TV was actually about the birth of the Savior and there was no second thought about reading a passage from the Holy Bible.

Watched "Arthur's Christmas" with the kids last night. Plenty of PC bullshit in this one: heavy duty commercialization, explanation of Hanukah, Kwanzaa... Nothing about Christ.

Shouldn't expect anything more from PBS.

136 Albie Damned: while your condition is serious, the procedure is common. You will be fine, especially since it sounds like you are generally fit and not a smoker or obese. My dad had open heart surgeries back in the '70's, when they were still pretty new techniques, and it was very frightening -and yet he managed to pull through. The technology is so much better now than it was then.

A Merry Christmas to all of you.
