| THE NRA NON-APPROVED GAMING THINGYHello my fellow mass murders, how are you doing this fun sunday morning? I've been playing quite a bit of Natural Selection 2 (which is a nice evolution of the mod and was worth the $10 sale price on Steam) and with all the alien and marine killing, I just can't help myself as I really want to go bug hunting on LV-426. This is going to be real quick as I scramble to wrap presents. Valve's Christmas sale is currently raging as well as a shart while on a date with your childhood crush while Amazon has been bringing the hurt on deals with a mysterious day of PC DD deals on Christmas. The GREAT iOS CHRISTMAS SALE HAS STARTED with the usual players marking down their stuff. I'm totally being lazy but Brad Cummings at boardgamegeek wrote a quick gift guide which is quite good As for news, nothing to report as everyone is off for the holidays. CiaoThanks Dude! Zakn here with a few things before we head off for Christmas. The Eve Retribution Release has been really interesting. We've revamped a great many of our fleet comps to bring in some of these new very buffed (and cheap) ships. The Goons EU guys went down to Curse on deployment with a bunch of these buffed t1 cruisers and duked it out with the locals. The Best FC i've ever flown under, Mister Vee lead the fleets and did the fraps. You really should bump it up to 1080 and fullscreen it. Watch how the logistics cruisers position themselves to be in range of the brawlers, but out of range of the enemy. Quite Pro. The other thing I noticed was the quality of the Interdictor (bubblers) pilots. Come in, drop a bubble, get safe, warp in drop another bubble on the enemy to keep every one pinned on the field. Very Pro. If you play, feel free to join our in game chat channel AoSHQ for friendly moron chat. I've booked all my stuff for Fanfest 2013 in Iceland, so I'm really pumped for that! For other games I've been playing...Steam is trying to make me poor again, but I've done a good job resisting. One thing I did pick up was this game I'd seen on Giant Bomb, so when it came to the PC, I was very interested. It's called I am Alive. It's a survival horror game, but fairly well done. It doesn't look great on the PC, but it's not horrible. Check out the Quick look here. I would embed, but :margins: Keep your Eyes peeled for The Walking Dead to go on sale if you haven't bought it. It's a fantastic game. On my iPhone i've been playing Middle Manager of Justice. It's Free to play, but there are purchasable currencey and other weird things going on. I haven't paid for anything yet, so check it out. I bet it looks great on the iPad. Check it out here. Merry Christmas from your Gaming Morons! Now for some Eye candy from The Dude.

I'm making my way through Far Cry 2 right now during my backlog gaming project. I decided to put it on "hardcore" mode since I've found recent games fairly easy on the "normal" difficulty level. But, I don't know how much longer I'll last as it's a ridiculous quick-save/quick-load button mashing fest.
It really needs some work in the stealth mechanics and the constant barrage of assholes in jeeps is getting old fairly quickly. On the plus side, it looks pretty damned good--far, far better than Fallout: New Vegas which was released two years AFTER FC2. Haven't had much time to play this week. I did manage to get my Kerbal Space Program interplanetary cruiser Kerbitania fueled up and hang a couple of landers off her, but they came out with a new patch before I could take her anywhere. I have to decide whether to take her on her maiden voyage in the old KSP or patch up and rebuild her in the new one (I understand that since she's already in orbit, she'll be affected by the changes they've made to the RCS thrusters).
Since I've thought about Kerbitania a bit and decided I should have done things a bit differently, I'll probably do the latter and build my new idea, Mediocrity Simplex. But that'll have to wait until at least tomorrow. And if Mrs. Chronda decides she's feeling well enough to travel after all (she's a bit under the weather at the moment), it'll have to wait 'til next week, because the trusty netbook can't run KSP. I completely forgot to post about THQ filing for chapter 11 with Clearlake buying them.
And Universe Sandbox is fun as long as you grasp it's not a game but rather a program/sim. Shooting plantes at each other and watching the reactions in quite fun or dropping black holes on things Posted by: The dude at December 23, 2012 03:17 PM (tw6Ar) 10
Forgot to mention the new KSP patch adds a distant icy planet, Eeloo, modeled on Pluto. It crosses the orbit of the outer gas giant, but at a different orbital inclination.

I had the most idiotic argument with a liberal family member on Friday regarding gun control. Of course when I started telling him facts he started yelling that Republicans and the NRA are baby killers! When I reminded him that his President and the pro choice gang are the real baby killers he went ballistic and stormed out of the room. Truly mentally ill. + Posted by: Cheri at December 23, 2012 03:19 PM (EAgmr) Posted by: alexthechick - SMOD. We're not worthy. at December 23, 2012 03:20 PM (Gk3SS) 13

Oh and other games I've been playing last week have been RAD Soldiers and Hunters 2 on my ipad. Both are outstanding turn based strategy games (akin to X-Com) and worth the downloads. RAD is a freemium (haven't been tempted to buy IAP either) and Hunters is worth buying when it hits it's monthly buck sale

I'm looking for some game advice. I just renewed my GameStop membership and have until Dec. 31 to buy two used games and get one free. I'm mostly an RPG player, but I'm willing to go off into other genres to expand my collection--not interested in Sports or Racing games, though. I've played most of the top games such as Assassin's Creed III and Skyrim, so I'm looking for overlooked and off-the-wall stuff. Any suggestions?

I haven't actually read whatever it was that the NRA said, but they seem to have been mostly correct (unless they were advocating government intervention). Video games probably don't really cause anything, as there is a certain annoying tendency to die within them, which leads the brain to associate violence with pain/suffering at a subconscious level, and thereby makes it violence adverse. But that same mechanism is not in play when it comes to violent movies and TV shows, where the brain is taught to associates violence with glamor, power, success, and sex (i.e. "good things").
(And of course the incessant deluge of disgusting filth that is "teh News" "probably" has absolutely no positive effects whatsoever.) Later. Posted by: Mirror-Universe Mitt Romney at December 23, 2012 03:44 PM (T0lrq) 26

And, of course, it doesn't have a Charon analog. Rumor has it that it will eventually become a moon for a second gas giant, kind of an Enceladus analog. Mmmm. Enchiladas.... Posted by: Citizen Anachronda at December 23, 2012 03:45 PM (1c58W) I've only played the free version of KSP. My results have typically been explosions, with the rare occasion of becoming trapped in stellar orbit. Got close to Munar landing a couple times but would have been stuck there. And therewas that one odd time Igot into a binary orbit around Mun and Kerbal together. Posted by: buzzion at December 23, 2012 03:49 PM (GULKT) 29

My KSP won't update... the updater crashes and evidently a known issue. I'm not happy about it and not enough of a computer wonk to dig in and fix the installer/updater issues. So I'm waiting for them to get their issues worked out. Looking forward to 1.8 whenever it will load correctly.

I bought the game FTL off Steam based on the recommendation of the gaming morons. It's an exceptionally fun game!
You play the captain of a starship that's trying to get a warning out about a massive rebellion, without getting caught by the rebel fleet. The graphics are very low tech, but the fights are very engaging. The fights are very tactical and frantic. If you've ever seen an episode of Star Trek, you'll have a good idea what it's all about. (Full power to the deflectors, target their engines!) There are even Star Trek esque random encounters. As you hit achievement milestones, new ship hulls are unlocked for you to use in your next game. The ships feature different weapons systems, and require different tactics to use effectively. It's on sale for 25% off now. But even at the full $10 its a good deal. Posted by: ElSuerte at December 23, 2012 04:21 PM (K3bE5) 37
I think FTL is still $5 at the dev site
Posted by: The dude at December 23, 2012 04:25 PM (tw6Ar) 38
Bah, they bumped it back up to $7.50

For Xbox users, the sale day for Walking Dead is the 28th. Episode 1 will be free the entire week from the 25th to the 31st. So you have time to try out the first episode and decide whether to buy the others on sale if you aren't occupied with pesky family stuff.

It's hard to recommend stuff without know what you have already. What I'd suggest is going by a site like IGN that has an extensive review section and looking for any unfamiliar Xbox game whose title grabs your eye. Assemble a list of stuff that sounds worthwhile ad take it with you to see which ones GameStop has available. If you want a reference of every US disc release, the Xbox section at GameDude.com will be helpful. And don't forget any original Xbox games you might have missed that are supported under emulation on the 360, such as Jade Empire or the two Knights of the Old Republic games. All three are on the official Microsoft list of supported games. http://tinyurl.com/d2pvx7f Posted by: epobirs at December 23, 2012 05:08 PM (kcfmt) 41

ValU Rite Pudding update for WoW. Son helped get us to level 7 and has agreed to keep playing as long as I keep paying instead of him paying half. We're almost halfway to level 8 which has one of the guild benefits I really like, hasty hearth.
If anyone is interested in an Alliance guild, since Moron Army seems to be pretty dead, I have a few Alliance toons on Hellscream that I don't want to axe and would be willing to start another guild there. Posted by: Polliwog the 'Ette, still a Hobbit at December 23, 2012 06:26 PM (wbeNt) 48

I feel like we need more love from the blockbuster games in this thread. I'm talking about Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 and big games that came out recently like Farcry 3. I barely ever stray from big-budget games, and I feel they aren't very well represented. I'd be willing to talk about them. I can talk video games for hours.
