52 Dark Knight was OK, just not nearly as good as the one with the late Heath Ledger.

Was fairly disappointed by Lincoln-Vampire hunter, and that was coming into it with low expectations.

One interesting thing about that movie (perhaps the ONLY interesting thing) is that apparently all the sets and costumes and such are historically accurate. Apparently the Lincoln society and civil war re-enactment folks were asked to help and they gave it 100%.

105 #76 No clue why Hunger Games was so hyped.
==

Hyped is easy to explain.

Its based on a popular tweener-girl novel, and after the multi-gazillion dollar success of "Twilight' Hollywood was looking for a replacement to pack the aisles.

Movie itself didn't "suck", it just didn't develop its themes very well, or show us anything we haven't see a zillion times before in other movies.

Posted by: looking closely at December 21, 2012 02:49 PM (6Q9g2)

106 >>>Fill you hands you Son of a Bitch....

I think ultimately John was just too stand up of a guy to convince me he was that big a loser. I love John Wayne, make no mistake. Just not that role. A lot of people love him it that role. The one I found the most compelling was Wayne as Wil Andersen in The Cowboys.

Posted by: MikeTheMoose is Shrugging at December 21, 2012 02:49 PM (0q2P7)

107 No clue why Hunger Games was so hyped.

The author is a moonbat who tried to make it into an allegory about "sending our kids" for pointless slaughter.

Considering that the people who hold that view (a) won't have anything to do with the military and (b) don't generally have children, the whole juvenile point of view seems even more ridiculous.

112 The only one I saw is Red Tails as I was channel surfing in the hotel. It wasn't great but it wasn't the worst thing I ever saw.

Obviously a racist review.

113 The one I found the most compelling was Wayne as Wil Andersen in The Cowboys.

125 John Wayne hired a couple of Japanese gardeners for his home.

Holy shit, that was actually a movie? I thought it was dialogue overlayed on top of Paul Ryan's plan for reforming entitlement spending.

133 I'm stunned that so many people will pay ten or more dollars to see a movie that is guaranteedto be meh at best. I reserve my hard earned dollars for something epic and mind-blowing. Not necessarily acinematic masterpiece. Just something grand and spectacular and extremely entertaining. Included: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, The Hobbit, The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, etc. Mindless entertainment can actually be a benefit for me.

140 I'm such an asshole movie critic. Most movies are disappointing unfortunately. I've seen just about every movie there is to see, so if a movie falls into old cliches, I notice.

It's all about the dialogue. A movie can have awesome visuals (even though I don't think CGI out the ass = awesome visuals), but without dialogue, I'm bored to tears.

Been watching some great foreign asian movies lately. SPL (also called Killzone in English) was great.

Posted by: ElKomandante at December 21, 2012 03:03 PM (k9osu)

141 The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was good. And it is where all the Western cliches come from.

Act of Valor had some cornball dialogueand acting, but it was hardly one of the worst films of 2012.

Posted by: Ernie McCracken at December 21, 2012 04:15 PM (ZETiK)

149 Act of Valor and John Carter were good. The rest were garbage.

Posted by: Witchfinder at December 21, 2012 04:43 PM (pLTLS)

150 #149 -- yes

Those were good films. "Act of Valor" had some rough edges (that would've been lauded in a less patriotic film, or perhaps an outright anti-American film).

John Carter is nearly great.

Posted by: moviegique at December 21, 2012 06:18 PM (Cepxj)

151 Only movie I saw on that list was Red Tails and dear sweet merciful Jesus that was fucking horrible. The real men who fought, died and inspired that movie deserved more than that piece of shit to honor their sacrifice.

Oh, and Act of Valor. Saw that one, too. NO, it wasn't good in any respect but it had a certain charm about it.

And John Carter! (Sorry, writing this as I'm watching the video.) John Carter was fantastic. Decent story with good action and great humor.

My brother saw Silent Hill Revelation. Said he came out wanting to make it his life's mission to prevent people from seeing that turd.

Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter was bad? I heard it was fun. Still want to see it. Heard the same thing about Dark Shadows, that it was actually pretty good.

153 That was a clip of the best movies of 2012. C'mon Total Recall rocked. So did Battleship. And John Carter was absolutely amazing. The visuals, story, everything was great. There are some movies in there I haven't seen. I must check them out. If the ones I've seen are any indication, these will be awesome.

Posted by: MrX at December 21, 2012 09:25 PM (PxmNZ)

154 I LIKED "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." It was a fun film. Just because it didn't get the box office doesn't make it a bad move necessarily.

Posted by: ScoopPC11 at December 22, 2012 06:34 AM (fIBmG)

155 I didn't see that many movies in the theater this year. We tried to save them for special occassions like birthdays and anniversaries. This year I think I saw in the theater "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," "Looper" (which was REALLY good), and "Argo." I'm planning on seeing "Les Miserables" in the theater when it comes out next week.
