Do-Gooders Ruining Lives In The Congo

Not surprised. As I always like to remind people, Africa used to be a net EXPORTER of food. Then western interests started poking around in the name of equality, flying in plane loads of food to feed the starving people, farmers lost what little income they had, and starvation flourished because warlords with guns are no match for starving children when it comes to taking the food and distributing it as they see fit (in other words, to themselves).

The Dodd-Frank bill really had no business even bothering to address conflict minerals. This is what I HATE about bills in Washington. They get so full of pet projects and tangential garbage that their impact spreads out like an infection.

We've already had that "discussion." Ask the corpses of gunshot murder victims in big liberal Democrat cities with strict gun control. They'll tell you.

- "Spain On Track For Major Crisis In 2014"

Of course. Spending more than you take in doesn't work out in the real world. Italy is next in line. And especially given that Social Security is "off budget," and that Gen. Y is unemployable, the U.S. for all practical purposes is Spain and Italy but on a much larger scale. It won't end well.

He may as well - it's not like the MA GOP has anyone better. And who knows? The economy will likely tank (again) in the next 2-years, Choomy will probably be at the trough of his popularity (Presidential 6-year-itis), and the MA DEMS are probably going to have to endure a nasty primary as I would figure at least 5 of the 9 current or soon-to-be leftard CongressCritters (Lynch, Capuano, Markey, Tsongas and JoKe III, at least) will be fighting to the death with perhaps as many as 4-5 other also-rans.

It would be interesting to see Scotty back in the Senate - working with Granny Lieawatha.

Nothing could possibly get passed in congress before the American people have had time to cool off a bit. Democrats are, right now, fully prepared to overreach on this and go for everything they've been fantasizing about since Y2K (when gun control was semi-officially taken off the table). Also, this is a very good time to really think about becoming more careful about who you let know what you have.

78 STEVE Lynch. Duh! Sorry. I always think Steve Lynch is the name of a sportscaster for some reason.

I know how dysfunctional the state GOP is. They're bringing back the Weld team to run things and scapegoating Maginn.

Not that Maginn deserves better, but there really was nothing he could have done this year.

I'd rather have the Baker team running things, not that THAT would do any good- but they would raise more money.

Down here in Bristol County we do have some room to grow and some seats to take in the house and the senate. Pacheco is vulnerable. It's Shaunna's to take as soon as we get her a replacement in the house.

Then there are two House seats that are winnable in Fall River, a seat in New Bedford, we need to take back the Ross seat, and we can get the Haddad seat.

After that we can think about moving those guys up and taking out everyone up through Timilty, who is the hardware target.

The best thing about Bristol County is the GOP ignores us and the democrats take us for granted. We're building an organization outside the MA GOP structure that will be better than anything we have in the state now.

79 I get the impression that JoKe III is rather allergic to actual work
and, whatever else we may think, being Governor of anything is a
more-or-less heavy lifting gig. Especially given the utter cluster-fu**
that is the MA "General Court".

Governor in Mass is relatively weak. He could be a ceremonial rubber stamp for the legislature.

Why is almost every scene in movies these days bathed in a blue light? I go my entire day without being bathed in a blue light.

81 Good luck with that, Tru.

The party (which I left almost 2-years ago) in Norfolk county is totally screwed - too much influence from the Boston/Weld types, I figure. There's not a single seat here I would mark as winnable, Rogers' (Norwood/Walpole) is close but he's cleaned the clock of a solid candidate (Stanton) 2x now so that's over.

My own rep has the IQ of a rock but the last time he was challenged (2004) he got over 70% of the vote in a district that went for Brown narrowly in 2012. My state senator (Joyce) has been caught 2x in Blue Hills in-flagrante-delicto with his law secretary but, shock of shocks, it never made the papers either time. He won re-election in 2010 (the first time he'd been challenged in years) with, appropriately enough, 69% of the vote in a district that only went for Warren narrowly in 2012.

82 Having met Joe and campaiged against him this summer,I can tell you be is energetic and engaged, and he "gets" retail and television politics. If he wants to be the governor, or the AG, or a senator in 2018, he will win.

I predict he will be president some day sooner rather than later.

83 Terrifying testimony and prospects, Tru. Thanks for providing expert witness.

Cheers -

84 There's a reason they sat an untouchable Frank and now the Kennedy kid down here: people here are willing to vote for republicans if they make sense. It's also the reason the carpetbagger from New York ran here twice. It's the most dangerous place for democrats in the entire state.

85 I guess I live too close to Sharon (which is of course deep, deep blue) to notice the rest of the district. It always impressed me as "the most Republican district in MA" (though MA-5 used to be that), but that's sort of like saying "the most virtuous girl in the whorehouse", isn't it.

He's a Kennedy. That means he has a drug addiction and a few dead hookers in his closet. Keep digging!

88 "He's a Kennedy. That means he has a drug addiction and a few dead hookers in his closet."

We're at a point in our culture that as long as you are sufficiently liberal, that shit don't matter anymore. I'm with Truman, if another Kennedy wants to be President, they can do it.

92 Somebody translate, please? Brookings Inst rep on Fox, commenting on new anti-fracking movie (recast at last minute, started out as an Alaskan fishing movie!), says he thinks it will have the same effect as China Syndrome with Jack Nicholson.

WTF, Jack Nicholson is not in China Syndrome. Does he mean that Nicholson was inspired to become an anti-nuclear crusader by watching it? Doesn't seem likely. Bullshitters do not usually fall for their own bullshit.
