3 Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Instead of some depressing news, how about a little Hollywood story?

Katharine Hepburn (an actress I absolutely loathe, BTW), suffered from a common trait among her peers – she thought she was much more popular with film crews than she really was. During the shooting of 1938’s Bringing Up Baby, she generally got along well with director Howard Hawks, but at times she tried his patience to the breaking point. One day, he recalled, she got to “talking and talking and talking, even when the assistant director tried to consult with Hawks.

“Quiet on the set!” Hawks shouted, but still Hepburn kept going on. Finally, Hawks told the AD to simply tell everyone to sit down and just look at Hepburn. In a moment or two, the actress realized what was happening. “What are we waiting for?” she asked. “I was just wondering when the parrot was going to stop squawking.” the director answered.

“I want a word with you,” Hepburn snapped. She pulled Hawks aside. “Howard,” she said, gesturing to the crew, “these people are friends of mine, and if you say things like that to me. . .well,” she smirked, “you’re liable to get yourself in trouble.”

Hawks looked up. In the flies above was a burly electrician with a huge light. “Eddie,” he called up, “if you had a choice between dropping that lamp on Miss Hepburn or on me, which would you choose?”

The electrician yelled back, “Step aside, Mr. Hawks!”

And that’s it for now. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Well after last night there are more people for the Democrats to call millionaires and not be liars.

A ticket worth $50 million in the Powerball lottery was sold in Kansas.
A ticket in OK was sold that matched all five numbers and powerplay for $2 million.
And tickets in CT, FL, IN, NH, NJ, WI, WV matched all five numbers to win $1 million for the lucky people.

The winning numbers are: 5 8 20 23 30 and red ball was 3.

34 In fairness to Ms. Hepburn, what's the guy going to say? It's not like SHE employs any of them...

That movie was and is spectacularly fun, and I don't know whether she was off her medication when they made it or what, but the energy she brought to that role was very unlike anything else she's done.

I mean, it's not like she'd never played a ditzy broad before, it was kind of a cliche for her, but in that movie she went to 11, as they say.

47 The official Chinese government news agency, Xinhua, has demanded the US immediately adopt stricter gun control measures to reduce the number of firearms the US populace is permitted to possess.

The Chinese state-controlled media’s statement, titled “Innocent Blood Demands No Delay for US Gun Control,” is primarily focused on the Newtown tragedy in which 26 Americans were killed by a mad gunman. Twenty of the victims were young children.

The Chinese government stated, “Their blood and tears demand no delay for the U.S. gun control.”

In an apparent effort to restrict information to their populace, the Chinese government wrote of a number of US mass shootings but failed to mention they were either stopped by a citizen legally carrying a firearm or otherwise only occurred in the controversial gun-free zones that critics say make prime targets for madmen.

When my daughter was 5 or 6, my mom was visiting and pulled the girl's hair back into a ponytail. My mom said "she looks like Audrey Hepburn"; ya know, with the bangs and the rest of the hair pulled back, delicate features, etc.

My husband looks absolutely horrified and we're wondering why...then he relaxes and says, "Oh, *Audrey* Hepburn.

103 Catherine Hepburn was a royal B*tch. She made her husband change his name because she thought it was bad. His last name was Smith. While she was screwing Spencer Tracy and still married everyone adored her even in the day when that was not "OK". I tried to watch one of those movies and it made me puke.

Of course, Hollywood gossip also whispered that the great Tracy / Hepburn love story was nothing but a fraud, she using him to cover her lesbian inclinations and him using her to cover his taste for young male flesh. As far as Tracy goes, I've never seen what the big deal about him was; I only like him in The Last Hurrah (a much better book than movie, IMO) and It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

104 Gun crime- a modest proposal.

Since it seems its always criminals that do these shootings, they should pass a law banning criminals. Law abiding people abide by laws, especially when they own guns.

We've tried laws abridging our civil right to carry guns. We've tried 22,000 of them. That's the number of anti-gun laws on the books in America. They don't stop criminals from doing criminal things.

This is my first proposal: What we really need is laws banning murder, attempted murder, and so forth. With punishments! Threatening criminals with punishment will work. It just hasn't been tried yet.

Gun-free zones are great places for criminals to go murdering with guns, which they almost always attain illegally (since they're criminals, you see.) This is probably because they know that it is unlikely that someone who obeys laws will be there to shoot back (since they are law-abiders, you see.) Since 1950, all but one mass killing has happened in a gun-free zone!

My second proposal, then, is to ban gun-free zones. If they do not exist, then the criminals won't know where it is safe for them to go murdering. Since criminals are a superstitious, cowardly lot, this may in some way deter them from going for the easy, no-risk murders.

It is also clear that where gun laws are strictest, murder rates by guns are the highest.

Therefore, I believe national, comprehensive guncare is a pressing issue of the highest priority. This is my third proposal. Let everyone who can afford a handgun buy one, or if they don't, pay a fine. And let them pay just a little more to make sure the most vulnerable among us can get affordable guns that will protect them in dire circumstances.

The Affordable Care Act is a good blueprint for what such a law should look like, and I call on Speaker Boner to draft and pass such a comprehensive gun care law for the good of the country- and for the children.

Some say we cannot afford to make everyone in America a gun owner. There are still some 100 million of us unprotected. To those folks, I will simply say we cannot afford to see another criminal in a gun-free zone prey upon the most vulnerable; we cannot afford NOT to act to stop the next Newtown massacre.

I don't know about other states, but here in Ohio, anything over 30
round capacity (excepting .22 LR, I believe) automatically qualifies
the weapon as a machine gun, hence illegal.

Posted by: Conservative Crank at December 20, 2012 08:45 AM (83wHT)

So if I somehow manage to connect a 30 round magazine to my bolt action Enfield #5 carbine I'd have a machine gun in Ohio?In the words of Montgomery Scott: "Aye, and if you put wheels on my grandmother she'd be a wagon!"

180 Thanks Anna Puma,

I've Never owned an AR, so I'm clueless. Maybe I will have to settle for a Ruger Mini -14, because the darn M1-A's are sold out too online! Sheesh!

I Have a few AK's , and an Egyptian Hakim (8mm), the PPS-43C, etc. Lots of SKS (10).

I passed on an FN-FAL..now I'm regretting it.

@135, Gun Grabby McFlap ears will never, I repeat never let those Korean Garands in.

CMP has a few Garands. Nice firearms and a definite piece of history. They tell me to go for the correct grade over the service grade because you get a much rifle and to stay away from the collectors grade (too much money!).

What is the best value/garand condition ratio at CMP?

Some say service grade, others say correct grade.

Smoot-Hawley = Fiscal Cliff
Posted by: Thorvald at December 20, 2012 08:53 AM (1V6Pv)

I think it is. Smoot-Hawley is more akin to TARP and the Stimulus. The Fiscal Cliff is kabuki theatre, considering we have yearly deficits now set at at leat $1 trillion going forward and a debt in the $60-80 trillion range.

Although, SCOAMF said he got Boehner to admit that tax and spending cuts - i.e. CONSERVATISM - do not work and are responsible for the bad economy.

So people will now believe that the central tenets of Ronald Reagan, Calvin Coolidge and limited government and economic liberty and opportunity are evil.

So, in that sense, it is as damaging as Smoot-Hawley.

197 66. Hepburn was a royal B*tch. Piss on her and all her generations.

**

Jabbering Hepburn was too full of herself to enjoy. Recall a poignant line from The Aviator, Howard Hughes dissing the Hepburns while at introductory lunch in their home, over their utter pomposity as elitists. The ensuing silence...

My spartan mother was not impressed easily. But she admired Rosalind Russell in Auntie Mame, a classic (195, as much as we still do.

And there were from the WWII generation of female actresses those who portrayed the down to earth working woman keeping America as America. Remember Patricia Neal, In Harm's Way.

The USS Voyager (2371) role of Captain Katherine Janeway (Mulgrew) is a cheap knock off on Neil, it would seem, emulating Katherine Hepburn's snippy mannerisms as a poor role model for the impressionable youngsters to emulate as if the "ideal leadership" quality in mind.

MPPPP, maybe you can tell us if the following Hollywood story is true.
Many years ago in New York City, an elderly woman was sitting in her apartment watching TV, when suddenly the front door of her apartment bursts open and in charge none other than baseball great Joe DiMaggio and his bud Frank Sinatra. They were looking for DiMaggio's then-wife, Marilyn Monroe, as DiMaggio had been told that she was in that apartment engaged in a romantic dalliance with someone.

However, it turns out they got the apartment number wrong. Across the hall from where the DiMaggio/Sinatra commotion was taking place, Marilyn Monroe was indeed present, "visiting" with her lesbian lover. Hearing the racket, and knowing instantly what and who it was, Monroe made good her immediate departure via the building's fire escape.

210 CBD, the Storm is designed to be easily changed over from right hand to left hand. You pop out a triangular key, both halves of the Storm will slide apart.

Pull the bolt back by the cocking handle located on the right side until it stops. Jiggle the cocking handle a bit and it will come right out. Then you pull the whole bolt out - this is one huge piece of metal that comes out

On the left side of the bolt opposite from where the cocking handle there is a piece of plastic that is H shaped. Pop that out and put it on the right side, the shell ejection port has now been changed and you are halfway to making it a left handed shooter.

Slide bolt back in. Look on left side of upper receiver. Fiddle with bolt until you see the hole align with the long opening, put cocking handle in and slide bolt forward by the handle.

Reassemble carbine. Put key back in. You now have a left handed shooting Storm without using any special tools.

The only thing that won't swap over from right to left is the magazine release button.
