In England, 6 per cent of people have red hair; in Scotland, the rate is estimated at 13 per cent. Across the rest of Europe the figure is only around 4 per cent.
There is strong statistical evidence for a link between hidden red-hair genes and a significantly increased risk of Tourette's syndrome, the neurological disorder characterised by repetitive involuntary movements and vocalisations called tics.

Time to End the State/Local Tax Loophole?
If voters in blue states like high taxes so much, why should the federal government lessen their burden when it's already running a mega deficit?
if you're a Democrat talking tax hikes and you are NOT talking about ending the deduction of state/local taxes from federal returns, then you are simply NOT being serious on fiscal responsibility. Particularly since it's a tax that mostly avoids the middle class (NRO worked it out as "households in the $200,000-and-up range would pay an average of $5,166 more without the deduction, while those in the $30,000-to-$50,000 range would pay only $70 more"). But, of course, if that happens then a lot of high-tax states - which, shock! Surprise! vote Democratic - are likely to discover that their constituents will suddenly have a remarkably different (and more jaundiced) view over what exactly constitutes a reasonable state/local income tax burden.

What Actually Ends School Massacres

This is mostly targeted at students who shot fellow students but the point is a good one - if kids are so miserable in school that they're willing to shoot other students, why force them to go?
Why do white middle-class kids from seemingly normal families kill their classmates in suburban high schools like Columbine, Santana, and Granite Hills? ...Why should excellent schools incubate mass murderers? Because the more exalted the reputation of a school, the worse it is for a student who feels trapped in such a school.

In the torrent of words commenting on the murders at Columbine in Littleton, Colorado, an obvious question was not raised: Why, if Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were so miserable at school, didn't they simply drop out and try a job in a nearby ski resort?

Hollywood Fish Bar owner Chris Christoforou has created a battered Christmas dinner consisting of a turkey, roast potatoes, stuffing, brocolli, carrots, pigs in blankets and brussel sprouts - all indidually dipped in batter and deep fried.
If you haven't had enough crispy batter by that point, he also offers a battered Christmas pudding followed by crispy mince pies.

I posted this on the previous thread a minute ago. Then the ONT went up. So here it is again.

I received a call from one of my renters. Aguy I let live at my warehouse was passed out on the floor, inside the door. He said he looked like he was beat up. I went to the warehouse and Larry was still on the floor with a blanket. He had blood on his face. He came around a bit and I asked what happened. Woozy, he answered he didn't know. He said he had vomited and crapped blood the night before. I looked in the bathroom and there was a pool of blood on the floor. He tried to stand but quickly sank back to the floor. He seemed to have a temperature and was shaking violently. I called 911 and they took him to the emergency. They rehydrated him and he is currently in ICU. Tests will begin tomorrow to see where the GI bleed is and why. I may have saved a mans life today.

My aunt lived in Detroit in the 1980's when the city was Murder City USA, if it isn't still.
One winter day, she looked out of her window and saw a body in the middle of the road. It being Detroit, she didn't want to risk going out there and called EMS.
As she watched out the window, fear came over her as she saw a car coming down the street. She thought the car was going to hit the body. Fortunately, the car slowed down. The car stopped, the driver got out of the car, went up to the body, dragged it to the side of the road and drove off.
EMS never showed up. The guy in the middle of the road eventually got up, puked in her bushes and staggered off.

I don't like FDR either but I don't think he was an evil person. There was a lot of new economic techniques attempted during FDR...some of them worked some didn't.
I believe that if FDR could see what happened to S.S, he would have done it differently.

That was one of the good things about that TV series, they kept a few Corsairs flying. Bit of trivia about the movie 'Catch-22.' Tallmantz Aviation actually assembled a squadron of 18 B-25 Mitchells for the movie. Then build a replica WWII air base in Mexico. Shot miles of footage. And most of the aerial footage was never used.

Your over threatened to the Commie threat in relation to the 30's
#1.) FDIC was to stop the run on the banks and offers tremendous stability today still. People from all over the world store there cash here for those reasons.
#2.) The WPA Projects were created to compensate for the collapse of the Private Sector. "Should have been" is different than reality, Wealth was distributed thru labor which helped prevent the moral hazard that we see today.
#3.) Glass Steagal was modified during Clinton, which allowed banks to become insurance and investment companies...this contributed to the bubble.
The point being.......The situation was horrible in the 30's, and some of the over reach by government was appropriate....its just a shame that after FDR died...the country didn't recognize that a lot of it had to end.

What brand? I've never shelled out for anything more than some mid-grade Gargoyles...they were around $75 IIRC. I liked them because they fit perfectly. Alas, they were snagged from my face when tangling with some brush on the riverbank when fly fishing and downstream they went. Diving into the stream after them proved to be pretty funny, according to my fishing buddies.

According to my parents who were both raised on farms during the depression this did happen and was government policy. And from what they say, they had no choice as to whether to participate in this. The problem with farmers, according to my parents, was that they had crops, meat, and so on, but people couldn't afford to buy the crops because unemployment was so high.
A lot of agriculture was regulated and controlled by the government. My dad said that his uncle would sell some stuff on the black market, because he would not have been allowed to sell it legally. Not sure why. Might have been livestock that the uncle had hidden from the government.

Yes, it was awesome. One of the greatest periods of wealth expansion in the history of the nation. When you fly high you crash hard and crashes do happen when the market gets overheated and lots of people with little understanding throw money at it.
But there is no reason other than government meddling why the recovery was delayed so long. Glass-Steagal was just another example. Many financial analyst believe it did little for stability and killed a lot of opportunities. Technically, killing opportunity that involves risk aids stability but only in the same way that shooting your dog keeps it from digging up the yard.
The sort of things that created the 2007 crash was the stuff of dreams a few decades ago and should have stayed that way. People keep going back to derivatives no matter how bad and inevitably they blow up. And Credit Default Swaps? How were those ever legal outside of Las Vegas?

Booker is probably the politician who's most effective at social media today. He is really something to watch. He seems to always have a knack for being in the right place and the right time and, of course, there's always a camera nearby.
Something that did impress me about him, however, is that during the Sandy aftermath, he was personally running around and checking on family members of those on twitter.

It was passed on to consumers as all such taxes are and thus directly took money from consumers to prop up a small portion of the populace. This was largely due to the power wielded by farm state senators.
After that bit of chicanery the outrages carried out on behalf of various types of farmers (increasingly large corporations) have have grown almost completely unchecked to this day.

The sleeping pills is probably so they get a better result more than for you. If you stay awake all night they'll get poor results.
The mask and the noise keep some people awake. Some machines are quieter than others - but generally I find that "hospital machines" are the noisiest, most uncomfortable machines in the world.

First off, i would question having to take a drug for the test. Unless you usually take a sleeping pill.
2nd- know three people who were so utterly exhausted that they didn't need A pill who slept through it fine. (i couldn't sleep while being monitored so the pill could be a good idea.). All three had it and nowsleep with the machine. One is provide

I created a FB account for one sole purpose: to enter contests. Nearly all of the companies running giveaways of some sort were using FB instead of their own sites to handle entries. Not a very productive use of my time but it's as close as I come to gambling.
I recently got curious after FB sent me a 'Do you know any of these people?' email, to which the answer was no. I looked at the full list of suggested contacts the site offered and out of about 400 I recognized only perhaps 50 were names I knew and less than half of those are people who would recognize me if we met. Trying to figure out the 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon' type linkage involved here is astonishing in that some people think this is a basis for labeling a complete stranger as a friend.

If it's OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea), your windpipe needs muscles to hold it open while you breathe, and when you sleep they switch off. These would be the same muscles as you'd use to resist being strangled and the effect is similar to them being overpowered -- except that you then wake up, and your brain reasserts control over the muscles, your airway opens, and you get a deep breath.

The moment I heard about Dick's and CTD halting sales I began to consider the gun runners I met 40 years ago. They were trading guns to Mexicans for Smoke out in New Mexico. They lived in the desert near a friend of mine. He said on weekends they would get drunk and high and fire automatic weapons into a hill near their place. The Sheriff knew about them but did not have the manpower and so stayed away.
Now in Mexico right now, the place is awash with guns; lots of military battle rifles, grenades, semi-autos, etc. The Mexican Constitution says the people have aright to bear arms but regulatory laws say they can't possess anything the military has, so the only legal gun is a .22 or .38 revolver or some shotguns and hunting rifles.
In a very short time this will be Obama's play. I have gone back and forth on this but I lean toward thinking this will start a Civil War. Little outbreaks here and there and then finally a State will stand up and get swatted down and then it will be game on. Louisiana recently passed a law reiterating that the Feds cannot make an end run around the Second amendment and I really can't see how they can get anything pushed through with any teeth unless they go all out with XOs and tax surcharges and all the tricks Barry supported in Illinois. Getting rid of high capacity magazines like Ace advocated (well, he said he didn't see any reason to have them) on a federal level will not stand by itself--they have to "ban" some guns. That won't fly in the age of NDAA, TSA, Holder's DoJ, the "Transformation" and the coming end to our economy.

Two points for you there --
First, make sure the wheel only has ONE green zero; some have two which makes your odds twice as bad.
The tightest table game is craps, where the house allows 10:1 or better backing of your line bet. You must fully back each rolled number, and you can cut the house edge down to well under 1%. You can't go venturing off into side bets, however, as the odds there are considerably worse.
The real best table play in the house is blackjack, if the rules are favorable (they vary all over the place) and you know how to do a rudimentary count and how to use 1:4 bet variation. You can get the house odds down to near zero doing this, but it takes study and practice.

Blackjack, using a point system, proper bankroll management(higher bets with deck favorable, lower when unfavorable), favorable table position(your far left, dealer's far right), fullish tables(more visible cards out by the time it gets to you), can pay better than even odds, even in multi deck games.
Its a grind though, you're working hard to eek out a 1% or so advantage, and if the casinos catch on they'll blacklist you.
I was into this about 25 years ago and got pretty good at it in practice. In Vegas it took me about 24 hours of straight play to eek out a few hundred dollars profit at a $5 table.

We *did* win in A-stan. The problem is it's not a real country. The central government has *never* had a monopoly on the use of force there. The problem isn't the winning, the problem is governing the place. That's not a military problem. The only way we could make it a real country is to obliterate the local civilization and rebuild it in our image. That would take three generations and just isn't doable politically.
A civil war in the US would be different for all sorts of reasons. Like I said, unless the rebels managed to win over much of the military they would lose pretty quickly.

Yes. Each pair of decks added to a shoe reduces your potential edge by 0.1% to 0.2%. So ideally you want to look for single deck or double deck games. Nowadays, for single deck games they shuffle after every hand, wiping out any edge for playing single deck.
So double deck is the best right now.

There was an incident in Southern California not long ago in which a trailer rig caught fire and the driver stopped under an over pass before fleeing the cab in hopes it would minimize the travel of flying debris. It possibly worked but the intense fire wrecked the overpass and cut off an entire neighborhood from easy access.
Getting in and out of my own neighborhood could become a real chore if something happened to the nearby stretch of the I-5 and the road that parallels it.

Every time Obama or one of his surrogates gets up on their pulpit to talk about the necessity of taxing the wealthy, I want to slug them and launch into a lecture about the simple math underlying the big lie. They could jack rates for the top three brackets to their historical highest levels and, assuming it doesn't put a major dent in revenues, it wouldn't make a noticeable dent in the deficit and only push back by a few months the date when the interest on the debt is greater than the GDP of the nation.
Hell, you could seize outright the entire personal wealth of the 100 richest Americans and it wouldn't knock down the deficit but a fraction, and that is trick you can pull only once. You soon run out of kulaks.
Nothing has made me feel contempt for my countrymen more than this class warfare idiocy and how they lap it up. There is a certain grim satisfaction in knowing that a collapse would have the highest body count among the core Obama voters in the cities. Stop stocking the store shelves and they'll soon eat each other.

The most accurate way to tell what twist rate you need is to know the mass profile of a bullet, where the mass is related to the center and how that relates to the bearing surface.
The second most accurate way is to just go by length - within a caliber with conventional construction, you'll get pretty close.
The next method is bearing surface - but the difference between a round-nose and a spitzer overwhelms this.
Bullet weight is the least useful way to judge what twist rate you need. You may be close if you follow a chart, or you may not.
1:7 will handle *some* 40-45 grain bullets. It depends on the design. 55-grain bullets should be fine unless they're stubby little things.
There are also other factors that can cause instability, including bullet materials and barrel condition. Ultimately you need to test a configuration before you buy a ton of ammo.
If you have a problem with 55s, try Winchester 45-grain commercial. If that's fine, it's something else (they are particularly concentric and consistent and a little longer than typical 40-ishes, IIRC).
