Tribute to the Working Man - Hump Day Edition [Niedermeyer's Dead Horse]

Here we are.

Hump Day. Again.

While presently I enjoy leisurely days, I know that my fellow morons are slaving away. Work is hard, that's why they pay us to show up. If it were fun we'd call it a hobby and show up for free.

Whether blue collar or white, men and women struggle through the work-week to make a living for what really matters: Family, Home, and Security. Things are tough and for those lucky to have a job, a free day here and there, with a few extra dollars in your pocket, it's just gravy now.

So, for all you hard-working morons and moronettes, here's to you. Thanks for keeping it running. And for those of you who are out of work and struggling to get by, hang in there. Better times will come.

When worse comes to worst, remember...

It's five o'clock somewhere.

8 Trying a couple of new recipes tonight. Green peppers stuffed with rice, currants and pine nuts and shrimp baked in a clay pot.

Both from a Turkish cook book. Love the food, and even most of the people I encountered in Istanbul a couple of years ago. But, they are headed for Islamic doom and they are getting their Joo-hatred up.

Anyway, on Charlie Brown's DD 's thread about pizza, I forgot to mention one of my favorite variations - Lahmachun, which is what Turks eat as a snack. Basically it's a pizza with tomato sauce topped with ground lamb, a little mint, parsley and some lemon squeezed over it. Amazingly good.

Then I must have married her sister.

The ex treated all help like crap. If I get bad service somewhere, especially a restaurant, I might give them one more chance, but more than likely I just never return.

The ex? Oh noooooo, she had to make a point of it. She didn't just want to see a manager, she wanted to see a manager right now. She didn't want to point out where the waitress made a mistake, she needed to also rob them of every shred of dignity in the process.

After a while I just didn't take her out much anymore - just didn't need the drama. Eventually her jones for abusing people was turned on me.

79 Nastiest job I ever had was working on a conversion team for the US Navy when they were converting over from crude oil to refined. Shipyard work. You had to go in to the tanks, blast them with steam to get the old oil scum off. Vacuum out the water. Then you had rust, had to grind that off. (Imagine 100 guys in a big tank with air grinders). Finally, paint the whole thing.

I think I lasted about 4 months. Never felt clean during that whole time.

Debating looking for a 5.56/.223 semiauto varmint gun/evil black rifle, even though I just shelled out for a .45/70 lever action a little while ago. Yup, never really heard of them since I've never been in the market for a semi-auto. I'll probably have to get both regular and low-cap mags since I plan on using it for coyote hunting down at my cousin's place. They've infested where he goes whitetail hunting and run off/eaten all the deer.

106 There are two general misconceptions out there about earnings. One is the "poor" teacher barley getting by. The other is the down out waiter/waitress just making ends meet who is in a constant state of emotional abuse from patrons.

In both cases it's bullshit.

I think all of us here know that teachers are very well paid with outrageously generous benefits. But in the general lexicon of America, teacher is equated with poor.

I did some bar tending when I was in college. First off it's one of the most fun jobs I ever had. Second, I made a shit load of money. This was in the 90s and I was making on average $150 a night for a 5 hour shift. $30/hour yeah real tough life. This was in the 90s mind you when $30 could actually buy something more than 1/2 a tank of gas.

Where I worked I also had to serve tables during the day when there was a shortage of staff. That wasn't as much fun but it also wasn't the hell on earth job that so many people make serving out to be. I dealt with assholes often. I didn't really care. It was part of the job. I also made pretty good money doing that as well. Less than bar tending but not a lot less. All the tips were pooled too, so I didn't really give a fuck if my particular table was happy or not since it didn't really affect me that much on an individual basis. The clientele were hipster douchebag types and they behaved like...well...hipster douchebags. But I never felt personally offended by them. It was a job serving the public. And the public is full of assholes. You deal with it, you go home, you forget about it.

I am a good tipper since I still feel a sense of fraternity with the server/bartending world out there. But I never understand the pity people throw towards them either.

128 83 ----"Someone once told me, if you want to find out about someones Charecter, one way is to watch how they treat the waitstaff at a restaurant."

Yeah. That was my mama's advice on picking a husband, to see how he treats service people.
And she said to pick a man for his faults, not his virtues. Everyone can get along with the virtues. You've got to choose someone whose faults you can accept. And make sure he knows and accepts yours.

Then my grandmama told me never marry for money but never forget it's just as easy to fall in love with a rich man as a poor one.

Then my aunt told me to forget all that and get a cat.
