Why dogs are man's best friend (I didn't choose the music)

Someone with way too much time on his hands has taught his dog to do more than most teenagers.

A Baptist Cowboy

A cowboy, who just moved to Wyoming from Oklahoma, walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud.

He sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.

The bartender approaches and tells the cowboy, "You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time."

The cowboy replies, "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in Arizona , the other is in Colorado . When we all left our home in Oklahoma, we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together. So I'm drinking one beer for each of my brothers and one for myself."

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there. The cowboy becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. He orders three mugs and drinks them in turn.

One day, he comes in and only orders two mugs. All the regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss."

The cowboy looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns in his eyes and he laughs."Oh, no, everybody's just fine," he explains, "It's just that my wife and I joined the Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking."

Hagel is no friend of Israel
...it makes it very likely that a second Obama administration with Hagel at the Pentagon is unlikely to scare the Iranians into giving up their nuclear ambitions.

LIB/MIB -- The Original, And Still The Best Ever

BlackFive turns the tables on the press

The time for action is now. The recent spate of mass shootings must finally spur us to do what must be done. We need press control. That's right, the media is out of control and they are enabling and certainly promoting the sick bastards who are slaughtering innocents. The Founders could not have envisioned a 24/7 news cycle with blaring soundtracks, garish headlines, and a relentless, almost pornographic sensationalism. There is no doubt the sad souls who plot these horrors can picture their faces beaming from screens around the world. They gain a notoriety they could never achieve otherwise and the ghouls who give them a stage must bear their responsibility.

Texas School Plans Preemptive Killing of Murderers

Jewish/Nazi/fascists murder innocents to protect gene pool

When Islamic terrorists began killing students at “soft targets” such as the school Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva in 2008, teachers and staff were encouraged to become trained and arm themselves. Parents now pay an average of 20 dollars per student for an armed security guard, and according to some reports, staff are still encouraged to pack and carry. Soft targets are now hardened, and such attacks are rare to non-existent.

Muslim Day Parade In New York City

This is unfortunately quite believable. They keep telling us what they think and what they are going to do, but for some reason we think they are just kidding around.

I hope you all will join me in tipping one back in honor of Maetenloch and CDR M and the rest of the cobloggers who produce the ONT. I have been in a cold sweat, desperately trying to find enough to keep you lunatics entertained for a few seconds. I have no idea how they do it.

Cheers! L'Chaim! Prost! Salud! A votre sante! Sláinte! Kampai! Na zdrowie! Mabuhay! Choc-tee! Konbe!

It's getting too fucking overwhelming right now. I'm taking a break from news and TFG and focusing on my family. I told my son that I'm planning to leave all my firearms to him as family heirlooms now. No telling what kind of grabbing is going to happen in the next four years, I'm not letting them go. I told him the same: never give them up. I'm going to etch my name on the side, like knights used to do with their swords and pass them down through generations. This will be my Excalibur.

86 Doggeh with the little boy does not surprise me at all. Couple of years ago, MrsCaniac and I went on vacation and left the Golden with the people that ran a doggie day care and dog park. She, the Golden, went to the dog park/day care a couple of times a week, and went beserk when I would come pick her up. When I came to pick her up after our vacation, she was sitting next to a little girl in a wheelchair, and she was as calm as she could be, she saw me and wagged her tail, but stayed with the little girl. I went out and talked to the little girl for a while, and my golden just sat there with her, calm as could be. The girl's mother came out and said they needed to leave, and the second she backed away towards the door, my golden barrelled into me almost knocking me over.

104 just some intel

Had part of this afternoon so went and chaecked out a few gun shopw in Boise.

the results

Went to 3 tactical type shops and Cabelas

One Tac shop was completely empty no EBR's, nags or lowers
next tac shop had one AR15 30 round mag, no lowers and 3 complete EBR's
next tac shop had no mags, no lowers 2 EBR's and 2 HK91's that were banned in 88 or 90, price $4000

Cabelas had no EBR's, No AR mags or much of any other mags and no .22 ammo on the shelf(the shelf was full last I was in there a few weeks ago, the shelf probably held 60,000 rounds. They limited me to 500 rounds of .223)

cuz I'm Jake, I walked out with 2500 rounds

end of report

I don't like that stuff anyway, but if your rifle is a .223 chamber consider reaming it to a Wydle or 5.56 chamber (preferably the latter). It should say ".223" or "5.56mm" on the barrel (Wylde is rare and halfway between the two).

It's one of those "the gun should handle them *but* you probably shouldn't have to" things.

167 I can't see a ban happening at all. Right now its right after an election that the liberals won so they are going all out pushing all their shitastic ideas. And they think they can exploit it and try and get something accomplished now but the longer it goes the less chance they have. Because their are still those power loving dems that know they need to act like they don't hate guns in order to fake being conservative for reelection. Right now its about as far away as any of them will be from an election and as the next one gets closer their resolve on gun control will disappear.

172 For those fuckwits that like to say the Constitution intended militias only to have firearms in the US --

“Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence … from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable … the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good.”

Cheaper Than Dirt! will Resume Online Firearm Sales Pending Policy Changes

Cheaper Than Dirt! recently announced that it was temporarily suspending online sales of firearms pending a review of its order processing and procedures. Well-known for its ability to process and ship orders within 24 hours, online sales have skyrocketed to a point where it may take up to 72 hours for firearms and other items to ship.

"In light of recent events, we believe it is prudent to review our policies and procedures to ensure we can continue to provide the products and firearms our customers demand," said Chief Operations Officer Roberta Wilson. "We will resume online sales once we update our process and continue as we have always done by shipping firearms only to FFL dealers."

Ms. Wilson closed with, "As a long-time supporter of the Second Amendment, we will continue to serve the needs of the firearms community while ensuring our unsurpassed level of quality and customer service."

Kind of not the current "hot setup" which is a shorter, lighter barrel and faster twist.

Right. In the pre-14th days, states could even establish religions and it was understood that these were state matters. Like Massachusetts, officially Puritan until the 1830s.

The "militia" clause alone seems to demand that it span state boundaries. Because otherwise why is it in a Federal document.

I think that in one he was walking past a burned out building and the dog went inside and found kittens. Then a similar incident happened again.

He'd written a book about it.

275 My new (pound pup) dog Emmitt and I are 17 days in. I told teh Mrs. that I think him "wild and crazy", and un-ruly, at 13 months (He really is clever, and strong, and attentive, and engaged, but young and stoopid).

She reminds me that I am aging, and we have not had a "puppy" in 12 years. So, I suppose we deserve each other. (He as Blonde Lab/Pit mix, looks pretty much like the dog in the vid with the young' un. Only 15 lb. lighter at 61 lbs.).

I am looking forward to the Holiday interaction with some trepidation. There are the baby nieces, that concern me most. But, on the other hand, I want the interaction, so that I may judge him. My parents have a 7 year old Huskie/Wolf "Zion" that is an alpha female. But she ain't met Emmitt. Feelings will be hurt shortly, I am certain. But it's an intro. that must be made.

Fingers crossed.

298 Law-Breaking Democrat Wins Election He WASN'T Eligible For

The Democrats in Nevada have succeeded in picking up a seat in the state Assembly, despite not having a candidate legally on the ballot. A judges ruling that the Democrat, Andrew Martin, did not actually live in the district he ran for, and thus was ineligible to even be on the ballot for people to select.

Posted by: The Political Hat at December 20, 2012 01:21 AM (sZTYJ)

299 I was going to say:

Since it seems its always criminals that do these shootings, they should pass a law banning criminals. Law abiding people abide by laws, especially when they own guns.

We've tried laws abridging our civil right to carry guns. We've tried 22,000 of them. That's the number of anti-gun laws on the books in America. They don't stop criminals from doing criminal things.

This is my first proposal: What we really need is laws banning murder, attempted murder, and so forth. With punishments! Threatening criminals with punishment will work. It just hasn't been tried yet.

Gun-free zones are great places for criminals to go murdering with guns, which they almost always attain illegally (since they're criminals, you see.) This is probably because they know that it is unlikely that someone who obeys laws will be there to shoot back (since they are law-abiders, you see.) Since 1950, all but one mass killing has happened in a gun-free zone!

My second proposal, then, is to ban gun-free zones. If they do not exist, then the criminals won't know where it is safe for them to go murdering. Since criminals are a superstitious, cowardly lot, this may in some way deter them from going for the easy, no-risk murders.

It is also clear that where gun laws are strictest, murder rates by guns are the highest.

Therefore, I believe national, comprehensive guncare is a pressing issue of the highest priority. This is my third proposal. Let everyone who can afford a handgun buy one, or if they don't, pay a fine. And let them pay just a little more to make sure the most vulnerable among us can get affordable guns that will protect them in dire circumstances.

The Affordable Care Act is a good blueprint for what such a law should look like, and I call on Speaker Boner to draft and pass such a comprehensive gun care law for the good of the country- and for the children.

Some say we cannot afford to make everyone in America a gun owner. There are still some 100 million of us unprotected. To those folks, I will simply say we cannot afford to see another criminal in a gun-free zone prey upon the most vulnerable; we cannot afford NOT to act to stop the next Newtown massacre.

In the old days (and for many commercial loads) the reverse happens - the 300WM has a lot more energy up front but loses it faster (BC and sectional density), so the 7mm takes over after some distance.

But BCs are higher now, so I imagine that's moot, and it certainly is at most realistic distances for most people.

Perhaps Obama and his ilk should start making noises about banning the Chevy Volt. Make it into forbidden fruit and it might sell decently.

If that works, companies with marginal products will be hiring lobbyists to seduce politicians into calling for bans of those products. It's the Buggy Whip Maneuver.

359 there is a lot to learn

Start small/cheap. A .22LR rifle is inexpensive to feed, light to carry, and lethal out to a few hundred yards if it needs be.

In the event that all Little Black Rifles somehow become unavailable, and you are looking to acquire a system, there are other options.

The Remington 750 is a semiautomatic, available in .243 and .308 (among other calibers), and 10 round magazines are available. I dislike (very much) the barrel-to-receiver attachment method, and sometimes there are feeding issues (that are easily solved), and the 750 (and its predecessors) aren't MOA accurate ...

... but it LOOKS like a hunting rifle, can be had with either wood or plastic furniture and costs about $700.00. 10-round mags are available; this isn't much, but are you expecting to walk into Fallujah? No? Then maybe 8 or so 10-round mags isn't so bad. Of course, if you do end up "walking into Fallujah", 10-round mags are not as good as 30-round mags.

.243 has noticeably less wind drift than .308 (admittedly a 400yd+ issue) and is suitable for deer; very much more so than 5.56mm. .243 is a widely used hunting caliber (and has lots of hunting bullets). .243 might be easier to get, depending on your location, or where you order, and .243 will be much more difficult to restrict or outlaw than 5.56 or 7.62mm NATO.

The Browning BAR can be had in very many calibers, but it's limited to 3 or 4 rounds.

Check your range. In an urban area, seeing 200+ yards is possible ... from rooftops and along streets. But acquiring a target at that range is tough: lots of "visual noise".

As a practical matter, 50 yards might be the average range a target can be identified, with 75 yards being a typical maximum, and 100-150 an unusual opportunity. Be certain of your target. YOU WILL HAVE TO EXPLAIN YOUR ACTION.

You might really be better of with 2 or 3 .45 or -.40 auto pistols with 10 mags and 2 speed loaders each. Carry and maneuver are easier, and explaining a 10-yard action is usually very much easier than a 200-yard action.

An automatic pistol or rifle is essentially non-functional without a magazine (I've never tried loading a round directly into the chamber ... will it work?), and only 1 magazine is a liability. 2 magazines per automatic is the bare minimum, and 3 is exceedingly much better. 4,5 and 6 are even better, but in decreasing magnitude.

A pump shotgun (12ga, 3" chamber) with an 18" cylinder bore is an excellent addition. Any 3" and 2-3/4" load can be fired. 3-1/2" cannot, but 3" and 2-3/4 ammo is common everywhere.

Add a revolver, 4-6" barrel, in either .357 or .44 Mag. Revolvers almost always work, and there are no safeties to work; grab, aim and fire. Further, a revolver only needs ammo (but get at least 4 speed loaders per revolver anyway).

ALWAYS have support items: Mace or pepper spray (several cans; area spray, not stream), a few stun guns, large plastic tie-wraps (cheap ->Harbor Freight), 2 or 3 4-C-cell Mag-Lites, a strobe-flashlight or two ... sometimes, a non-lethal spanking is the best choice.

Very recent news reports indicate that the police are using pepper spray to break up altercations, and a lot of problem children are starting to develop a healthy fear of the stuff ... and the subsequent events.

I'm unsure about knives (4-7" blade) ans impact weapons ... laws differ, and sometimes the penalty is worse than if a firearm were used. OTOH, if you need one, you really need it.

The comment about have some large plastic ties is spot on. They are useful for all sorts of things including restraining bad people, plus they are reusable.

Another useful thing to have is a mix of fish hooks and monofilament line in a couple of diameters. Learning how to fish can feed you when other sources of protein are scarce. But it is a skill, and requires practice to get any good at it. Plus it's quite a bit of fun.

369 The Moran Family's War On Women?

The misogyny of the left is well established. But some high-powered people on the left go from mere misogyny to outright violence. Democrat Congressman Jim Moran’s son, Patrick, was convicted of assaulting his girlfriend. Patrick Moran’s conviction is not only notable because his father is a connected Congressman, but because Patrick Moran was a political player himself and was caught on video discussing how to commit voter fraud.
