Factual Weapons For Defending the 2nd Amendment
Whenever there's a tragic shooting the Democrat-Media industrial complex always has the same answer - banning guns - despite the Constitution which is like a hundred years old or something.
Well Bookworm has done the heavy work of gathering together facts for refuting the usual arguments calling for gun control.
Note that the US has a violent crime rate per 100,000 of just 470 which puts us below every single single country in the above list - all of which have far more restrictive gun laws than the US.
Read the rest here. It pretty much demolishes the case for gun control and shows that a lot of the 'facts' used to justify restricting guns aren't actually true.
Republicans are at their highest level of control of state governments in 60 years and completely control 24 states (governor and legislature). That's a far cry from the suck year of 1976 where the GOP controlled zero states.
Obama to Push Gun Control in Second Term
Even before Sandy Hook it was already on the agenda according to anti-gun activists:
"I am certain Obama thinks our gun laws are insane, and he doesn't ever have to run for office again," said Ladd Everitt, spokesman for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. "It won't be lost on many people that a sportscaster was willing to speak out about the issue but Obama hasn't found the guts to take on Republicans yet."
Everitt said White House aides have privately assured gun-control advocates that the president would tackle the issue in his second term but didn't commit to specific proposals.

My prepared response is, "Have you turned on the TV in the last decade? We've spent ten years hunting 14th C. shepherds around an area the size of Texas and we still haven't defeated them. 3D Printing. People are already making guns via this new technology. The guns fail after a handful of rounds, but it is still a gun. And printed guns will get better as technology improves.

So, one of the methods used to protect heavy bombers from radio detection was chaff, strips of aluminum foil that returns a lot of noise to radar receivers. On several different mornings, troops on the North Shoulder as well as Bostogne looked out at sunrise and saw the majestic evergreens of the Ardennes festooned with foil strips, just as if someone had decorated them for Christmas. I was just leaving a gas station once and noticed a woman who had pulled up to a pump with her gas spout on the wrong side. I'm watching her try to pull the the hose far enough to get the nozzle into where it needs to go. She's looking down and to her left as she pulls the hose with her left hand while the nozzle is in her right hand pointed skyward. She doesn't realize that because she's pulling hard her right hand naturally clenches and she's in the process of dispensing gallons of gasoline onto the hood of her SUV.
First, get the nozzle into the spout before activating the pump. Second, how can someone not realize that gasoline is spraying all over the place? Sense of smell? Sense of hearing?

Mulled Ale/Wassail is best. Keeps you nice and warm.
Core about 5 apples (choose the varieties you prefer) and stuff them with light brown sugar and honey in a baking pan and drizzle on a bottle of brown ale. Cook in over for 1/2 hour at 300 deg F.
Add the apples and liquid to five bottles of brown ale and half a bottle of Madiera that have been heated in a crock pot along with allspice, cloves, cinnamon, orange peel, and candied ginger.
Yummy.

Turn this thing around. The "liberal" left has been the slavemaster from the start, and the Dems have been their party. Sure, a lot of people are too indoctrinated and will claim that guns are the cause of violence in the inner city, but I'm guess a lot more will be amenable to the argument that a gun is the best self defense.

They have always been about forcing confrontations so that they could use the legal system to get what they want. I have always thought they were plants for some political position but I just don't know for what. Old man Phelps has I think 2 or 3 children who have openly disowned them so I think their influence is somewhat constrained to the legal system. In other words, they do not have much of a following.

The play was set in 1980's Britain during the coal miners' strike. Thatcher's government wouldn't back down from the miners' union demands and thus began a year long strike, during which the miners and their families lived in increasingly degrading conditions. The playbill made sure to point out the hundreds of thousands of jobs lost and placed the blame for the collapse of the British coal industry squarely at the feet of Mrs. Thatcher.
And what we end up with is the story of a young boy with a natural talent for dance, struggling to find his way through a culture of manly coal miners, punctuated by dances choreographed to "Solidarity Forever" and characters wearing Che t-shirts. Within this celebration of all things socialist, the playwrights even had the audacity to include a number professing that all we need is "individuality." I guess even playwrights will sacrifice their creativity on the altar of ideology.
All in, I still enjoyed Billy Elliot, but it sure would be nice to be able to fully succumb to the fantasy and not have the experience tainted by someone using a play as a tool of indoctrination.
I wanted to enjoy a play. I had to endure a lecture.

Private colleges tend to have Rent-A-Cops. State schools tend to have their own REAL police force.
I remember once a friend of mine and I were counter protesting some insane race obsessed freaks, and the police said that if we were physically attacked we could jump over the barrier for protection. Of course, we were the ones who tipped off the police to the planned protest/riot.

Yep. They reduce the bar to stripping you of your rights. Maybe they make not having insurance a fine-only misdemeanor.
They do wrong-house raids when you're away and destroy the stuff before you can claim it. They set bizarre transport and storage restrictions (like in some states) and start doing "checks" on you in traffic - with automatic probable cause to search.
There are a hundred more things they can do to incrementally take your stuff and your rights. Slowly, so anybody who fights back looks like a madman.

I don't know the exact strategy of the powers behind Westboro, but I'm pretty sure they have a strategy, and I distrust their endgame. Just a feeling.

To get your blood worked up a little bit more, Westboro does not thrive on anti-military money. It thrives on the money of the people they f'k over.
The scam they have going is that if you win a civil rights case in the U.S., you're entitled to reimbursement by the people you sued or the people who are suing you (this is due to the Civil Rights Attorney’s Fees Award Act of 1976). Since, Phelps, along with a bunch of his kids are lawyers, guess who gets paid?
So, what they do is act like total dicks. Get sued or have people try to stop them. Go to court. Collect a paycheck. Rinse. Repeat.
Maybe somebody should note this fact over the next few days, publicize it, and do something about it...

They get sued all the time. Lawsuits are a function of being a large scale business. Nationalization would be a real risk. But my point is that these companies do have some leverage in that government agencies do need their products. And I think that one of the things that they can negotiate into their contracts is a "shut the fuck up about our products" clause.

The last time I was asked that question by a doctor, I ran through the litany of "dangerous" things in the house: cordless drills, circular saws, jig saws, Dremel™ tools, extension ladders, step ladders, soldering irons, chef's knives, paring knives, meat cleavers...I went on for like fifteen minutes. Finally, the doctor stopped me and asked why I was going on about these things and not answering the question about guns. My response was that the aforementioned items were far more likely to cause injury than my legally owned, properly secured guns.

Interesting about the lead foil--we had the stuff when I was a child, and I can remember Ma making us remove it carefully, and her ironing it to smooth it.
We still have some left we put on each year, and it gets smoothed after each use. Along with that there are a bunch of surviving glass bulbs that are over 65 years old. The kids will get them as part of our family tradition when we're gone--as it should be done.

I very rarely watch TV anymore. I might flip through the news in the morning or watch some movie that happens to be on, but that is about it. I just get everything on line. The news if fresher, has less B.S., and has a wider variety of information.
The reason I got on Twitter is because it is the perfect tool for the rapid exchange of information. I used to us IM a lot, but many people skipped out to pots randomly on Facebook. AoSHQ is one of the only two places I know of where you can in effect have a conversation with a real live human being anymore.

I always wondered if to battle attempts at gun control it might be possible for gun/ammo manufacturers to refuse to sell to police forces. It might not work against a federal attempt, but I could never figure out why any company would sell guns or ammo (or body armor) to, say, the Chicago police force. They should just say "If you think our products are evil then we will spare you the temptation."

The LAPD used one of their own Barrett rifles as a prop in an anti-50BMG press conference (despite the fact that the rifle they used was ALREADY ILLEGAL under CA law). So Barrett now refuses to sell any products at all to any government agency in CA, but he sells to anyone else in CA, as long as it's legal. Hell, LAPD had several rifles in for repair/service at Barrett, and he had them shipped back unrepaired with a big fuck you.

Talking guns, how many of you morons went to a college where the campus police carried handguns?
I've been to six colleges and as far as I remember only one had armed campus police.

university in my hometown is Wichita State University. They have an
actual police department with I think around 10 full time armed
officers.

I went to a small school in rural Virginia, and the two campus cops were armed. To be fair, they weren't campus security but full fledged cops because we were out in the middle of nowhere.
The school had gun lockers where we stored our guns, for squirrels and such, and we were supposed to store them there. Being that we were in the middle of nowhere, we hunted a lot, especially in the morning before classes. So the "rule" was that you needed to return your gun as soon as possible, meaning that everyone pretty much just kept them in their trunks until hunting season started or ended, or the semester ended. Usually it was semester end.

Ronnie Barrett and every government agency in my beloved Clownifornia after the CA .50BMG ban.
The LAPD used one of their own Barrett rifles as a prop in an anti-50BMG press conference (despite the fact that the rifle they used was ALREADY ILLEGAL under CA law). So Barrett now refuses to sell any products at all to any government agency in CA, but he sells to anyone else in CA, as long as it's legal. Hell, LAPD had several rifles in for repair/service at Barrett, and he had them shipped back unrepaired with a big fuck you.

A .308 upper and a /223 lower *don't* go together. The M4 is a small/light action for .223, pistol calibers, 7.62x39, and other small cartridges.
The lower for a .308 rifle isn't an M4 at all. It's an AR-10/SR-25/LR-8 or whatever. Not compatible.
Now, assuming you actually meant a .308-compatible lower, GA Precision, LMT, LaRue are rated pretty well but not cheap. Everyone points to DPMS - but you might get lucky or you might get a "Friday Afternoon Rifle," I have seen both.
Also look at FALs and FN SCAR-17S and the FNAL (probably the cheapest of the bunch).

My hair is naturally curly and thick, so when it's long, it's unmanageable and I feel like my face is dwarfed by a mass of curls. (I didn't have to work at having "big hair" in the '80's.) Guys like it long but I have to keep it short(ish) if I want to be able to run a comb through it.

Sweet. Got a call from my friends wife after she went to her first gun show and she was yappy yap about how fun it was and she had no idea of the crowds that go to them. Also said she felt safer there than her work.
And yes, the hubby got a new .40 Beretta Storm for Christmas. Now we have to get her out shooting, heck, their 12 year old daughter is deadly with a rifle.

Not arguing with your point per se, but it is kind of vague. When I power-lifted, I'm pretty much convinced I did it the right way since I got so strong without any injuries. But just like an NFL player (which in no way am I comparing myself to) who retires and can barely walk, I'd have to say that other factors may weigh in as well.

Nope, my car just happens to be designed for someone about 3" shorter than me, and my commute makes it almost impossible to get the sun visors to block the sun. Driving home means a pretty constant shifting to avoid going blind. I think I just managed to shift wrong, and that's what did it.
I certainly can't think of anything else that would have done it.

The confiscation thing is probably haggling. They open with a high price and then meet you where they will settle. Registration and limiting access to semi's shotguns and pistols. An active gun grab is expensive and confrontational. Suspect that they will look to grind you down. Eventually they'll get what they want by attrition. You either register or go underground. That, by and large has a similar effect. Once you're a felon facing something like 10 years or some such bullshit, you have to hide the damn things. Then, they become pretty much useless for anything but an all in situation. Can't keep them at your place. Can't carry. The threat of an eventual search becomes too much. Someone will rat you out. Even if you don't have them, anyone who knows something about you can drop a dime on you and say you have them, if you've crossed them. The govt can wait you out.

Because while guns are a major -- perhaps overwhelming -- part of the problem, it also takes a criminal to pull the trigger.
While we have a second amendment right to own and use guns, we do not have anything enshrined in the constitution about freedom to be a criminal.
Therefore there ought to be little problem passing a law banning crime.

The problem our country faces, is that it's far easier in most states to buy a large bore, 22 caliber fully automatic bolt action handgun with 500 round clip, than it is to buy a happy meal at your local McDonalds. To make matters worse, these military grade weapons fire solid lead 'cop killer' armor piercing bullets. A single round from one of these dangerous weapons can penetrate 18 inches of solid steel armor plate. The weapons, and ammo of choice of this nations most notorious gangs.

Heh, good riff. I saw Obama not too long ago pretending to know what he was talking about, saying that while he was of course down with this country's sacred, time-honored tradition of hunting, we are now dealing with "semi-automatic assault weapons" that should only be in the hands of soldiers, not civilians. So, apparently this genius thinks a rifle that fires a .308 one shell at a time is sacred, time-honored and must be protected, while another that fires a .311 one shell at a time only belongs in the hands of soldiers. I bet that stuttering little prick couldn't tell them apart if I put one of each in his hands.
