Clearly we need to ban "lawn and garden sprayers." And maybe all flammable liquids. For the children.

    Ahh exchanges.
A friend of mine accused me of being "inconsistant" because I (and some 60% of voters) told my state (Missouri) they couldn't set up a state run exchange.
He ranted something about how I was abandoning my commitment to federalism, and freedom by doing that.
I patiently explained to him that being forced to set up an exchange (with state dollars) by the federal government is hardly federalism. And if the federal government wants to mandate this infrastructure they can figure out a way to pay for it. Effectively it's a modification of "Starve the beast." (Later another friend reminded me that the feds set all the rules and regulations for the exchange, basically they just want to the states to fund it.
Another thing though. Why the heck do we need [government] run exchanges? Can we just point everone towards esurance.com? (Yes, they have health insurnace.)

15 The administration will have to engineer an information technology system capable of processing operations in a way that meet the needs of health care consumers in different states.

Experts say the biggest challenge will likely be providing adequate customer service to handle enrollment, as well as fielding a technology system capable of interfacing seamlessly with the system of each state government.

As someone that kinda does this sort of thing for a living, I'm pretty confident that a small payor with 250,000 covered lives would have a fuck-ton of issues developing such a system from scratch over the next 10 months - it could certainly be done, but it would be "hairy".

Now, CMS is going to create a national healthcare exchange to connect a minimum of 30 states who have (recently) opted out of setting up their own exchanges - and they're going to have it all up and running for open enrollment in October? Like, 10 months from now October?

Shit like this...well...Obamacare may very well do itself in, without help or hinderance from the GOP. If that October date starts to be in jeopardy, it will very probably have to be pushed out another year...which will make the first big open enrollment period coincide very nicely and neatly with the next Congressional elections.

This implementation will be chaotic, at best.

I'm serious, I expect them to punt and say "hey everyone use esurance!"
I have yet to see a single set of requirements for the exchanges that seperate them from any already existing commerce site. (This doesn't mean development of those sites was done.)
Heck while reading comments here, I randomly browsed and found 3 healthplans that I could enroll in ranging from $35/month (high deductable, high coinsurance) to $90/month (still a fairly high deductable, but 0% coinsurance.) FWIW my threshold for "high deductable" is around 2k. Feel free to disagree with me there, but that's not the point.
So why do we need the federal government to step in and provide this to us?

22 The Long Island mother of Kansas City Chiefs football player Jovan Belcher told investigators her son argued with his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins over their baby’s paternity before he shot her dead and killed himself, The Post has learned. Cheryl Shepherd — who was in her son’s suburban Missouri home the morning he shot Perkins nine times — told investigators after the shootings that there were questions about whether the West Babylon, LI-raised linebacker was the father of the couple’s 3-month-old daughter, Zoey, said sources familiar with the situation.

“The mother believed that there was an issue over whether [Belcher] was the father,” said a source close to the Chiefs with knowledge of the situation.

“She said he [believed he] wasn’t necessarily the father of the child.”

27 21 So why do we need the federal government to step in and provide this to us?

Well, my first clues that the new legislation were primarily concerned with more shit for the FSA were in the name - anyone who's lived within a few miles of I-395 had to know it has nothing to do with protecting patients, nor affordable care. The "Subsidized Coverage for All Through Tax-based Oppression of all Producers Act" would have come out "SCAT TOP" though, instead of the much more catchy PP/ACA.

I wonder if we could have skipped this whole painful money-flushing phase or "try this, let's see if it works" if we had just agreed to put SCoaMT's face on Rushmore, day 1.

Absolutely impossible. Not a chance. They'll be lucky to have something even resembling a structure set up by them. For full functionality it'll be at LEAST five years, more likely ten. I say this from experience of having to work with government contractors to build SMALL databases; like basic enrollment dataon about 12,000 people databases.

56 MWR, went to see the 2D midnight showing. It clocked in just under three hours. As I said on the ONT they could have trimmed some of the sweeping panorama shots and CGI battle scenes to save about 15 minutes of run time. But over all it worked. Friends and I got nicely sucked into the world.

Final scene the audience follows this thrush as it flies to the Lonely Mountain. The bird lands in a nook of the stone, picks up a nut, and starts to smash it against stone. This sound reverberates through the Dwarven halls as you seen all these gold coins and treasure heaped on the floor. Then there is movement as Smaug shifts his head, coins cascade off his eye, and the eye opens. Then the credits roll.

We were all nicely annoyed at that. By that part of the movie we could have stood another three hours to finish the story. Instead the credits rolled.

Regarding runtime, I had the same issue with The Two Towers. Fellowship flew by, and RotK was just so full of STUFF that it didn't start to drag until about the sixteenth ending. But the Two Towers always felt a little uneven to me; an issue thatwasn't helped by the fact that, being the second in the trilogy, it had an in medias res opening and a cliffhanger ending.

She says she just babysits all day. They won't listen, nor pay attention, etc.

And, recently, one started stalking her because she reprimanded him. Now, she's afraid for her life and family.

What is the school doing? They suspended him...

86 MWR there was music? Sorry but it all pulled together nicely. None of the music overrode any scene. It all complimented it. I would have to watch it again to notice the music.

Alexthechick. Some of the sweeping panorama scenes were a bit jerky. The focus at the movie start showing the deep caverns under Erebor seemed to be messed up and the camera travel also seemed wrong as it showed the Dwarves mining treasures. The super long running battle with the goblins also suffered these issues as the party kept rushing down these rickety wooden raised platforms smashing goblins left and right. Perhaps because there were just too many elements crammed into the frames it becomes a blur.

93 MWR, went to see the 2D midnight showing.

    142 I think we'd prefer a "legitimate alternative",

You know, it's really easy to think oneself superior by not being a part of a particular organization. Say, a religious institution or political party.

After all, you can say you're not responsible for their malfeasance.

If you want to be an independent, fine. It is a sign of manifest stupidity in a single-district first-past-the-post electoral system, but you want to feel smug and superior and have that "Don't blame me..." bumper sticker on your car. So be it.

Besides, it's easier than hard work. It's easier than trying to fund
and train good primary candidates. If "The GOP" can't do your work for
you, then you'll just have your snit fit. Good for you. Here's a
    cookie.

But now you have to answer for all of those independent voters out there. You are one of them and lots of them voted for our Marxist president. Your Senator is Bernie Sanders.

There is no sense denying it, that is the team you have chosen. As Rush said, "If you choose not to decide, you have already made a choice."

    How does "independence" feel?

146 Over 3,000 US troops have secretly returned to Iraq via Kuwait for missions pertaining to the recent developments in Syria and northern Iraq, Press TV reports.

According to our correspondent, the US troops have secretly entered Iraq in multiple stages and are mostly stationed at Balad military garrison in Salahuddin province and al-Asad air base in al-Anbar province.

Reports say the troops include US Army officers and almost 17,000 more are set to secretly return to Iraq via the same route.

All US troops left Iraq by the end of 2011, after nine years of occupation, as required by a 2008 bilateral security agreement between the two countries. The troops left Iraq for the neighboring Kuwait.

Washington decided to pull out all its troops from Iraq after Baghdad refused to grant legal immunity to the remaining US soldiers.

Washington claims that the only US military presence left in Iraq now is 157 soldiers responsible for training at the US Embassy, as well as a small contingent of marines protecting the diplomatic mission.

US-led forces attacked Iraq in 2003 and toppled Saddam Hussein on the pretext of possessing weapons of mass destruction. But no WMD was ever discovered in Iraq. At the peak of the US-led military operation in Iraq, there were 170,000 US troops and more than 500 bases in Iraq.

More than one million Iraqis were killed as the result of the US-led invasion and subsequent occupation of the country, according to the California-based investigative organization Project Censored.

153 The President has not made a choice on his next nominee for Secretary of State yet, but Governor Deval Patrick is already making plans to fill presumptive SecState nominee John Kerry’s Senate seat. Knowledgeable sources tell me Governor Patrick has already had a discussion with one potential replacement for Senator Kerry: Vicki Kennedy. The sources say the governor talked to Kennedy, the widow of Senator Ted Kennedy, about the possibility of replacing Kerry in the Senate and that she did not rule it out. But don’t count on seeing another Senator Kennedy from Massachusetts any time soon: a source close to Vicki Kennedy says she would be unlikely to accept the appointment. But again, she has not ruled it out. If Kerry is nominated and confirmed as Secretary of State, Governor Patrick would appoint somebody to replace Kerry and, under Massachusetts law, a special election would be held no later than 180 days (and no earlier than 160 days) after Kerry leaves the Senate.

"MICHAEL MOORE: I'm very optimistic about the future, young people. Adelson and all those people will be gone, just like the people who voted for Reagan, the older generation that really was behind Reagan. You know, if were 55 or 60 years old in 1980, when Reagan ran, you're dead now. They're not alive, they left. And when they left, you know, things got better.

Nothing against -- my dad is 91. I love old people, don't get me wrong. But I'm just saying, that the previous generations, which were willing to live under segregation, they were willing to live with woman making a third less than men, they were willing to live with all of this stuff. They wanted gays in the closet. Their way is over. (Current TV's War Room, December 12, 2012.)"

"It would not make sense for us to see a top priority as going after recreational users in states that have determined that it's legal," he said, invoking the same approach taken toward users of medicinal marijuana in 18 states where it's legal.

Hey why not make it legal in the Military while your at it?

Hard to say. For some reason the owners didn't like Tagliabue which I can't figure out at all. From what I've read it was because they thought he didn't handle the last players' union negotiations very well where I thought he bent Gene Upshaw over pretty badly one last time; but maybe those vindictive cocksuckers wanted complete humiliation.

Whether they hated him or not, I think he just successfully inoculated them from any legal fallout of King Roger's brainless petulance in how he ran roughshod over the rights of the accused in his fit of pique. What Goodell's never been open about is how he and his barely trained monkeys who are responsible for the reviewing films for uncalled infractions didn't have a clue that the Saints were headhunting people which any moron with functioning retinas and a cortex found obvious just from casual viewing.

*could refer to any JB song

PS - To be fair, having once been a tween girl I can understand Bieber's appeal. But that doesn't mean I want to know his opinion on every topic under the sun. Nor do i want to see his grinning mug on every channel when I happen to watch TV. And can we please stop asking him about American politics? He's a pop star and he's fucking Canadian.(Sorry, Canada)

Voter suppression by the man is bad and happened everywhere (although it is almost completely undocumented), but it is distinctly different that voter fraud (which as it counters voter suppression) is good, even though it didn't happen anywhere)!

397 The WA state story about the 2 dems siding with the GOP is funny (I live here so see the local stories). The main reason was those 2 dems realized that in order to do anything fiscally responsible, they'd have to basically desert the kooky Democrat party.

Also more proof there is really only one party. The Ruling Party.
